List Fiction and Non-fiction books you are reading and recommend...

Just finished Seabiscuit. Going to start Reefer Madness.

As for fiction, I don't read fiction while I'm writing fiction but my last fiction book was Devils and Demons by Marvin Kaye. A collection of fiction short stories involving devils and demons. Considering the season it's highly reccommended. I particularly suggest reading Don Juan's Last Night by Edmund Rostand in this book.

Finished reading the last dark tower book about a month ago. It was so good I had tos top reading for a bit because other books haven't been able to compare

That reminds me I have a copy of On Writing by Steven King lying around that I've been wanting to read. i hear it is very very good. I'll get to that after Reefer Madness.

King writes very good nonfiction his columns in entertainment weekly are quite good too. If you like king you should check out Dan Simmons who writes similar but IMO is a superior writer. He also writes in different genres and is quite a good Sci Fi writer as well

I usually try not to read much anymore (it's bad for you, I say!) but I do try and read a good sports book from time to time. I'd highly recomend "Moneyball" to any baseball fan. I just got "Patriot Reign" today so I'll be reading that soon.

rec: 1421!!!!

The Egyptologist, Peanuts 1950-54, complete new yorker cartoons, cloud atlas, alexander hamilton, and devadatta (but not necessarily finishing in that order)

I finished Michael Crichton's Prey not too long ago, and it wasn't that bad. Now I'm in the middle of America (The Book). It's hilarious, and I highly recommend it to everyone.

Book? Is that a new videogame? Or do you mean like one of those thingys in Eternal Darkness with pages and paragraphs on it?
Nah, I have to read To Kill A Mockingbird right now for school.

Dune...all the the Frank Herbert books...

I have read all 6 3 times now...plus I have read his sons work and Kevin Anderson too...they are ok but nothing beats the 6 book set of over 3000 pages.

I am gonna read them again in the upcoming months. I read a lot but the Dune series is almost a religious experience for me.

oh and just to throw in a better reading recommendation..

"the life of Pi"

My favorite series is the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but here are some others I have read.

Recent Reads:

Crichton - Prey, Airframe
King - Pet Semetary, The Shining

Currently Reading:

King - Salem's Lot

I think the last book I read was King's The Dead Zone. which was an awesome book, almost as awesome as the show. But besides that, I haven't read a whole lot lately...College doesn't leave a whole lotta time for reading books you want to read. But I wanna read through all of The Dark Tower series, including all the books that include references to it...That's gonna be a nice long project.

"East of Eden."

My high school is instilling a healthy loathing of Steinbeck in me. I don't like "EoE" and couldn't stand "Grapes of Wrath." "Of Mice and Men" was good, but that may be the only Steinbeck novel that I read and appreciate.

But a worthy project indeed. My favorite DT-related books are Insomnia and From a Buick 8. Insomnia in particular -- the way he ties it in to DT is subtle and extremely cool.

The Dark Tower books are my favorite books period. I still have 6 & 7 to read but I'm saving them. I can't believe the series is finally over. I want to anticipate for a little longer.

Totally unrelated, I hereby heartily recommend Ken Follet's The Pillars of the Earth. I've never been so emotionally moved by a novel. It's like 1000 pages but you'll whip through it in a couple weeks, tops.

Completely unrelated once again, Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead is another must read.

Have fun.

I have just started reading Dune for the first time. for recommendations, read the Eisenhorn trilogy or the Gaunt's Ghosts books, bot by Dan Abnet. Eisenhorn is some of the best Sci-fi I have ever read.

Im currently reading the first Halo book, while alos trying to finish up "Grasping for Airtime" by Jay Mohr, the fifth Harry Potter book, and the Time Travelers Wife.

Working in a comic book store makes reading overall get a bit annoying...maybe thats why i dont play all too many rpg's anymore...

I'm almost at the end of A Clash of Kings (Book 2 in George R. R. Martin's "A Song of Fire of Ice" series) and thoroughly enjoying it. I already have the third installment ready to go... Highly recommended series.

Mostly just re-reading stuff, like...

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by Hunter S. Thompson

Choke by Chuck Palahniuk...good stuff I suggest this and Survivor.

Ha. I'm in the exact same spot. Like page 750 or something. And I have A Storm of Swords waiting in the wings as well. Tyrion is awesome. :)

Dude that's cool! I was actually around there earlier today, just finished around pg 830 this evening. And I agree, Tyrion is a great character. I believe the fourth book is coming out at the end of this year. Hope to have the first 3 read by then! :)

Actually, before opening it I've expected that. He covers three differtn unrelated topics iin one book, so I expect it to be errattic.

Some of my all time favorite books:

Fiction:
Fountainhead by Ann Rand
The Stranger by Camus
Black Boy by Richard Wright

Non-Fiction
Philosophy of the Human Person by Reichman
Theory of Relativity by Einstein (written in a way a dummy like me can understand)

There is more but those are off the top of my head

Yeah, I guess the fourth one has been delayed forever, HL2 style. I like when Tyrion rescued Sansa when Joffrey was having her stripped: storms in, "WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS!" Haha, he's the best. Yeah Arya and Tyrion are my two favorite characters. And damn, I hate Joffrey.

I had trouble finishing refeer madness. I really was interested in the marijuana bit (no I'm not a pothead), but after that i kinda lost interest. Fast food Nation was definitely better.

As for fiction i just finished reading all the Halo books and the one's by Eric Nylund were pretty good. The other was blah. I think I'm gonna read Irvine Welsh's porno next.

I am stunned by the wait for the fourth one, it seems like forever. Tyrion is the man, I like his rogueish behavior, while not being a total dick, a la Joffrey.
Kurt Vonnegut is an excellent author, most of his books are really good
yeah, Kurt is great. Cat's Cradle and Sirens of Titan are some of my faves from him. I started reading King's Dark Tower VII but I couldn't get passed the beginning part. I think the series has gone a little downhill in these past couple of books but I still wanna give it a try. I just finished Uncle Tom's Cabin for my English class.

By the way, anyone read House of Leaves? That is one of my favorite books ever! Absolutely inventive and a great story.

The Mark Danielewski book? I read that and I'm glad I did because it was so innovative, but man was it a hard read. All the footnotes and odd fonts and spacing.

Read The Stranger back in high school, good stuff, hell The Cure even did a song about it.

Yeah, it is one of the most immersive books I've ever read. You really have to be paying attention if you wanna get all of the subplots but at the same time you can just breeze through it and still get a really good story.

I don't know if just breeze through it is a real option. But yeah it's really immersive. My personal fav thing was the box in the middle of the page that kinda opens up at one point, very nice.

I have to agree with you on all fronts there.

However, all of my recent reading has been young adult reading. I just don't have the time to read a real book. However, if you are looking for something fun and well written I have to recommend the A Series of Unfortunate Events books. They are well written, clever, and enjoyable by all ages.

I also recommend anything by David Sedaris, especially Me Talk Pretty One Day and Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim. Both of them are very funny, and he is a great writer.

And for those who mentioned Vonnegut. I have to brag, because I have a signed Slaughterhouse-Five. It is one of my most prized possesions.

Ohh to all the guys reading the Dune stuff, man that is the best series ever. I've read everything with the Dune name slapped on it. The most in depth group of fiction ever written IMO.

I remember having to read that. I believe it was my freshman year in HS.

Good book. The narrator rambles a lot, though.

LOL. Yeah, I'm a freshman in high school too, so it must be mandatory in some way. I was told that the movie doesn't cover some stuff in the book, so I have to read it all. Its pretty good though, and I heard the ending is really good.

Recently I've read:

Digital Fortress-great
Are You Afraid of the Dark-good
Dude Wheres My Country- awesome (depends on your Bush opinion. Me... um... no comment)

You know, one of the books I never really cared for was Catcher in the Rye.

I had a deep dislike for Holden Caulfield by the end of that book. He was whiny, selfish, self-important and generally just pissed me off.

If you think to Kill a Mockingbird is bad, they make us read the worst book @ my HS. Last year as a freshman we had to read Summer of my german soldier which is a about this 13 yr. old girl whos in love w/ a 25 yr. old soldier. Has anyone else been tortured by this book?

Yeah, the movie blew off a lot of parts. Believe me, I tried watching it.
