The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - Gen. Discussion & Info
Mix mandrake root and Elf cup cap to make "Cure Disease" potion, if you have those two shits.

There are Elf cup cap plants near Gold Coast near Anvil and West Weald.

Mandrake are at some farms. Whitman farm and Odiil farm.
Okay, I got those two. When I try to brew them, it won't give me the option to "Create" (the X button). This is my first time making anything with this alchemy stuff so is there a step I'm missing? I also have all 4 tools for alchemy (I forget the names).

Gotta be an Apprentice in Alchemy for that potion, it seems.

Ah!! I'm forever cursed! hahaha, someone said that a magic shop in the Imperial City sells the potion (of course they forgot the name of the store)

My quest log says:

...In exchange, Teekeus has agreed to write a recommendation for me. (Choroll)

Skingrad Recommendation
Anvil Recommendation
Cheydinhal Recommendation
Bruma Recommendation

Is there a 6th guild hall that I forgot to get a recommendation from?

Plus, the mages guild quest still says I need a recommendation from Choroll, even though it says right there that I have it.

I think it's the store that's not "Edgar's Discount Spells". I think there are only two magic shops in the town... I think.

Ok guys, stupid question. I made a Crusader, now joining the Arena, Fighters Guild, and posiibly the Dark Brotherhood would seem like givens. I have moderate magic skills and im about as subtle as a nuclear warhead. Should I attempt to join the Mage and Thieves guilds or would it just be futile?

Haha, I'm about 6 hours into the game, and I'm only at Level 2.

I have to say that the first Oblivion gate was kicking my ass, but I finally beat it. I just became a member of the Blades and I'm trying to join the Thieves Guild but I keep getting caught by guards trying to steal the little book.
wooooooooooo that was an intense quest for getting into the thieves guild
I just followed the lady that started to run immiedietly. She was about to grab the Diary when I grabbed it before her.

yeah that's pretty much what i did. first time i did it, i was like 5 seconds late, so as she walked out i tried to pick pocket the book from her

I am 25 hours in, and haven't even gone to Kvatch yet in the main storyline. I am too busy being the champion of the arena, spelunkering caves for loot, and otherwise exploring the world and doing NPC quests.

Awesome. I became grand champion of the arena. This game's combat is so fucking awesome. Apart from that I'm just trying to be as evil as I possibly can without getting caught. AKA, murdering, stealing, and doing generally bad stuff without anyone seeing it happen. At first, I thought it was cool to steal horses in the middle of the night. But most recently, I thought it was fun to take that annoying fan you get after becoming champion in the arena to the back of a house and murdering him. Killing a female store owner and stealing her clothes is cool too.
So for Azura Shrine... how do I kill that Will O' Wisp?
I stabbed it. Then it died.. I don't know what you mean.

To many pages to go thro, but easy question, just started recently.

So I get out of the sewers, explored a little (framerate bad, but I slept alittle till sunrise and it was perfect) and need a way to store/sell the useless stuff I dont need (Good storage location, such as a house or personal safe, but I only have 74 gold.)

Where do I join guilds/how?

What does the little pic captions mean on weapons menu (coin =value? feather=weight sword=damage heart=the items damage)

And how can I increase the storage quickly, other then just working on strength, and how would I work on that?

You need to use Silver or better weapons to kill them.

To join a guild, you have to find it in the local cities around the world. Well, I know that's the case for the Mage's Guild and Fighter's Guild - I'm pretty sure the Thieves Guild comes to you after you steal something.

Yeah, you got it right for what the little pictures on the weapons menu actually mean.

And though I'm not 100% sure of this, I believe the best/easiest way to store items is to buy a house and drop all your stuff there.

There's a haunted house you can buy in Anvil for 5,000 gold. It even comes with a quest.
I only have 73 gold. How can I get more and, if I can, sell my stuff?
I suggest doing the Arena. I did that and not much else in the rest of the story or side stuff and I'm up to 5000 now. Not a lot, but something to get you going anyway.

Found out how to barter and persuade (dpad when about to talk to a npc).

What can I and do you do with persuading?

How do you pick locks with more then one lock thingy (to tumble up)?

Sometimes, you'll need to get info out of someone not-so-willing. This is where persuasion comes in.

About the multiple tumblers... You just press the joystick right to move on to the next tumbler. Is that what you mean?

Anyone having trouble picking locks. I highly recommend doing the Skeleton Key quest. Pretty easy, just got to fight some rat and bears. The Skeleton Key is actually an unbreakable lockpick that adds +40 to your security. Just got it myself.

Holy shit. Where and how do you get the quest?

I'm gonna have to do that.

I was going to resort to the lock picking spells, myself. I have the "Unlock Very Easy Locks" and "Unlock Easy Locks" spells. I'll go for that pick, instead.
Holy shit. Where and how do you get the quest?
I second that. I really didn't want to get the guide so I wouldn't do quests in an unnatural way, meaning that I wouldn't go looking for certain quests. However, that skeleton key would be incredibly helpful.

Every time I bump the tumbler up it just falls back down. Dont know what to do. Maybe I need more skill, need more info on that quest^^.

Nevermind, hit A at the top of the correct sequence.

Talk to a dark elf lady in the Leyawin Mage's Guild. Ask her about "Daedra Shrines". She'll mark "Nocturnal's Shrine" on your map. Activate the shrine and I'm sure you guys can get it from there.

You have to be level 10 to do the quest though.
You have to be level 10 to do the quest though.
Well, maybe in 3 months or so judging from my current pace.

I'm still not getting the persuasion thing, specifically how to get out of it. I get to a point where it's in the 70s or 80s, but I guess I can't just stop in the middle. It always ends up I have to click on wedges they don't like and it drops down to where it originally was and I just stop. More practice I guess.

This is what I do. Every NPC likes 2 of the 4 choices. I go and hit all of them to see which ones go up and down. Once I see which they like I try to get the Big Yellow Thing on it, the ones they dont like I try to go for the small yellow or no yellow. You do have to do it alll 4 times though like you said you cant stop in the middle.
You can tell which ones they like by their facial expressions.
Or do the simple math and see if the number goes up or down. :)

Thanks Zewone for the Skeleton quest. I'm gonna check this out later but i have gotten pretty good at picking locks usually pick any kin of lock within 4 Picks.

Wow The game has just gotten better. I never knew if you hold the Left Trigger while aiming at something you could move or manipulate it. Very cool stuff.

Well BF2 MC isn't that great... I'd definitely opt for this instead. Plus, you hack shit up like no other in Oblivion. Even people with ADD (even though it's not real - just some shit doctors make up) would like this.

Yeah, I just figured the persuasion thing. Didn't understand the whole wedges and yellow icons before, but now it makes sense. I just "didn't get it" before, but yeah, thanks for the help.

Murdered my first person earlier, now I'm wondering whether to sleep and see what the Dark Brotherhood is about or to reload a previous save. Been playing on the good side so far.

You mean the left shoulder button? That's how you move objects/drag bodies.

Even people with ADD (even though it's not real - just some shit doctors make up) would like this.

Oh, right. That's why there's been a ton of studies and medicine to help out with it - it's just a big joke and the pills are all placebos, right?

Yea the left Button I never knew about it before. Good Stuff. I'm at the first Oblivion gate and it great dragging people into the Lava.

Theres only 16? The quest I'm on they pop up every 30 feet. Annoying as hell having to run from 8 beasts every 20 seconds.

Ok, im doing the sidequest in imperial city about the guys cheap stuff in his shop, so I folowed the other guy home, broke in, and every time around this area a guard will come in and put me in jail (or loose if I choose to fight back), is that normal for the guy to arrest me?
Then, in jail, whenever I go to waste the prison time on the bed thing, it just freezes. Anybody else.
Nevermind, after about 10 retrys, I decided to just load it in the cell, and delete the hdcache.

^^^Thanks for the link, just did the same thing into the prison armory.

I just use the oldest trick in the book to open pesty locks: save right before I open the lock, and keep re-loading the save until I get the damn thing open.
Theres only 16? The quest I'm on they pop up every 30 feet. Annoying as hell having to run from 8 beasts every 20 seconds.
I'm pretty sure..some loading screen talks about 16 Princes of Oblivion each having their own gate. But there is an achievement that talks about some "Great Gate" ...hmmm...

Oh, and is it bad that I sorta lost Martin and Jauffre on the way to that temple in Bruma? Does this mean if I want to do the main quest than I either have to search about 1/4 the entire game for them/start a new character and play strictly the main quest?
Speaking of Oblivion Gates..I beat all 16 of them and nothing happened afterwards. boooo!
Did you steal back the Amulet of Kings and do that whole thing and give it back to the rightful heir?
Did you steal back the Amulet of Kings and do that whole thing and give it back to the rightful heir?
Yeah, did all that and went back to the Priory and kicked butt and got on my horse and lost Martin and Jauffre somewhere between there and the temple in Bruma.

One thing I wish they'd change in this game: The characters popping out of nowhere. fuck it scares the hell out of me sometimes.

Left the castle in Branvil (sp?) when the queen there asked me to find and talk to someone. Loading screen to the town, a brief POV at the level then bam, the motherfucker ends up behind me and starts talking. Shit.

The worst one so far was with the Dark Brotherhood guy. Murdered a guy for the first time and I just randomly went around the game world for a few hours not sleeping. Jumped to bed at an inn I saw, load screen, bam...the fucker appears, eerie voice and all.

One question: Anyone have a list of the "best weapons", how much they cost and where I can find them? I like to keep a mental note of where I need to go back to get them later when I get enough money. Mainly looking for a nice bow to upgrade. I use a dagger and a Claymore (willing to switch to longsword/shield combo though) as well.

Ok here's where I'm at :

About to hit level 9 with 14 hours of playtime down. I think choosing a Mage/Magic Guy was a wise choice because I'm leveling up like a goddamn machine. All I'm doing during fights is using cold touch/shock touch, heal spells, shield spells, bound armor spells, and conjuring spells (mostly zombies and skeletons as a distraction).

But while I'm happy with the pace I'm leveling I'm still REALLY irritated at the lack of gold. I'm getting better weapons now (joining the Mage's Guild and the Blades helped) but other than the Arena, I have no idea how to truly get a decent amount of gold. I'd like to buy a house but I can't imagine ever getting enough gold to do it.

Still, I'm having fun. Concentrating on the Mage's Guild quests and the Arena right now. One warning though, if you do that quest where you have to go into the guy's dreams with the dreamworld amulet, don't try going to sleep while wearing bounded armor. It'll lock the game up. Happened to me three times before I figured it out.

What level are you guys at and in how much playtime?
