The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - Gen. Discussion & Info
From what I heard its a glitch after donwloading the Orrey. You wont be able to complete the mages guild because of this. I havent worked on the mages guild because of this. I've heard suggestions of deleting the Orrey from your HDD and then playing through and see if it works, after you complete the quest (if it allows) re-dowload it.
Didn't happen to me... Could try loading from a previous save, before you started the quest, and do it over again.

Well they said it happens if you start the mages guild after you DL the Orrey. If you start mages guild before DL the Orrey, it doesnt happen. I DL before I even started the game. I'll try to get the mages guild going and see what happens.

I just turned into a freakin' vampire! Thanks to that quest in the Imperial City. GRRRRR!

Now I gotta do that cure quest, which I hear has glitches and is a pain in the ass.

You should have reloaded a previous save.

Good news for Xbox 360 owners -- Bethesda is putting the finishing touches on the first, eagerly awaited path for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Will it be worth the wait?

On the heels of yesterday's announcement of a "beta" patch for the PC version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Bethesda representative Pete Hines gave us a quick update on the progress of the Xbox 360 update.

"The patch is a couple of weeks away. [Releasing a beta patch for the PC] gives us a larger test group for feedback to make sure that none of the fixes cause problems elsewhere that we haven't seen or found yet with all the save games out there before we formally submit it to Microsoft [for approval]."

The PC patch improved the stability of the game by preventing several documented crashes and save errors. It's also reputed to smooth out some performance kinks in the game.

I read this on another forum:

I Think I found a secret but I found out after you beat dark brotherhood Guild.
Be come a Vampire Guild I found do not kill them at all no even one.
It's in the mountains North for some time you will find a Hidden Camp.
Then go West you will find Vampires Guild but you have to be a Vampire to speake to them i know.
I did go when i was a person or what kind of race you are they will attack you no matter what less you are a vapmire.

I know the guy who typed it doesnt really make sense. But is there a Vampire Guild?

Good news on the patch although I can't imagine they can do a patch that improves performance on the 360 too much. Maybe just fix those problems people have with people dying on certain guild quests and fixing some of the freezing/caching problems.

Also, I read in the latest EGM in the rumors section that a full-fledged Oblivion expansion pack with lots of new quests and areas could be out before the end of the year.

well the PC patch did fix some performance issues so it is possible this patch may as well. I'm hoping it will fix the cache from fragmenting (or have it auto refresh the cache every now and then).

I got my 360 on Friday and since then I've spent close to 25 hours playing Oblivion. I just can't stop. It's like crack.

I do have a question. In the Imperial City, I want to do a quest for three vampire hunters where I have to break into a vampire's house to find out where he's hiding. I've gotten in the house, but I can't find anything that says where he is. Does anyone know where I can find the letter or whatever I need to find?

that quest is my favorite. The not is on the table when you first enter the house, I had a hard time finding it too.

The letter is actually sitting on top of a book on the table IIRC, that is what made it kinda hard to see (at least IMO) and then you have to make sure you pick up the letter and not the book which is easy to miss as you rumage (sp?) through everything.

I completed the Cure for Vampirism quest. Took me over 4 hours to do everything, and that even included duping some items to make it easier. Can't say I didn't enjoy it though, it was a long but enjoyable quest.

Now I just purchased my first house, which is in Bruma (one of my favorite towns). I get to play house now and furnish it, yay!

God this game is addictive.

Yeah, I've been meaning to contract Vampire disease. I want to sneak into all the castles in the middle of the night and bite all the royals and see what happens next. But I think I might have killed all the vampires.
Closing down all these oblivion gates really sucks. These things are boring.
I'm right there with ya man. And 2fast I only have 54 hours, so I'm not even close ot your mark.

You do not have to close all of the Oblivion gates. They keep respawning anyways. If you want to close them forever you have to complete the main quest.
I just hit the 100 hour mark last night, anyone with me?
I would be if I'd have allowed myself to play it after the first two weeks I had it. As it is, I'm still sitting at 80 hours of game play... :whistle2:#

I think I've averaged a little less than two hours per night since the day it came out (which is exactly two months from today). I am not even close to finishing the main quest, I've only closed five Oblivion gates, and haven't even touched the Thieves Guild quests. I think I've only found about 150 locations, and I'm only level 28. I LOVE THIS GAME!

Y'know, I think I'll go play it right now.

When you said that, I looked at your sig and

I have a major delima.

In the Oblivion gate outside Anvil, inside that cave you must go through, my game locks up during a loading screen when I open a door to the next floor EVERY SINGLE TIME. Tried it on two 360s, still does it. Even got my disc exchanged for a new one, still does it. I'm guessing it's my save file.

Anybody know anything I could do to prevent this?

This may have been addressed already but I'm not up to searching through 54 pages to find it ....

Is there anything wrong with being a vampire? I've been one since nearly the very beginning of the game and it seems to help me out in a lot of ways .. especially having the Hunter's Eye spell. So I'm wondering am I missing out on something by being a vampire? Should I try to cure myself or am I better off just staying the way I am?

If you can deal with constantly feeding without getting caught, or not being able to talk to people and taking damage during the day time (if you don't feed), then there's really no disadvantages.

Well if you're a full fledged vampire, besides the whole dying if you're in the daylight thing, I've heard that some of the characters, including some that you need to speak with about a few quests will actually refuse to talk with you. But then again you could just feed, then talk to them and wait to become a full fledged vamp again.

I strongly advise you create a new save file as 'backup' before becoming a vampire. I have personally ran into several glitches and annoyances, among the worst being that my female redguard looked like a dude after she was cured.

I fixed it. I just reloaded an older game, then came back to it later and the Oblivion gate was designed differently. Then it worked just fine. Strange...

Man, I am having a blast playing this.

I am Sir Sporadic, Warrior and giant asshole that jumps on tables just to knock all of the shit onto the floor.

I just went back to start the mage's guild quests again after dropping it very eearly in the game. When I first went for the recommendation where you have to get the ring of burden off the body in the well, I had no way to breath under water. No, many levels later, I decided I'd give it a go again. The quest is still open, the people at that guild are still waiting for the ring, but when I went back to the well - there's no body. My little compass mark turns green like I'm in the right area, but there is no sign what-so-ever of the body or ring. I think I'm screwed out of the mage's guild with this character. Any ideas?

You sir have fallen victim to one of the major flaws in Oblivion. Dead bodies only stick around in the game for 3 days, including the one in that well. Basically, your SOL on the entire mages quest with that character until they patch it.

I just got 100% Chamleon for my character. Mr. Steven Segal.

It's pretty funny actually. You attack the guards and they go running off in another direction. You steal off people and they don't respond 90% of the time, the other 10% a guard catchs you, but when he unsheaths his weapon he just stares at you.

You can literally enter sneak mode around the town and do 6x damage on every melee hit. I just made the game 100% broken. lol.

Pretty much what I figured. Oh well. I was planning on creating a 2nd character for the mage's guild anyway, since my current knight is kinda sucky for magic. They definitely need to fix that though. I understand bodies not staying around, but they shouldn't attack a quest to it when that's the case.
Thanks for the info.

Cool!

Thank both you and Sporadic

Probably a stupid question but what decorations can you buy at shops?

The only house I've bought so far was the Imperial City house, and some of the furnishing included a dining table, chairs for around the fire, drawers, and an endtable for the bed.

Good to know that the "eagerly awaited path" is on the way.

I can't believe you guys didn't know about using the left button to move objects or drag bodies.

Yea, I was slow to figure that one out - I'm still trying to figure out how to do multiple enchantments on weapons/armor :whistle2:s

And I just made it to the dog statue glitch from the Vile Shrine
Definitely can't wat for a patch b/c I can't complete all the Daedric quests without it unfreezing :bomb:
Hell, i didnt know about the wait button til about 80 hours in...
I never knew there was the "teleport" option until about 15 hours in! God it sucked walking from village to village on foot.

I just beat the fighters guild quests. The last one was really cool. Now I'm off to do the thieves guild quests. Just sold 50 gold worth of stuff to that guy in Bruma, now I can get missions. I remember these being really fun in Morrowind so hopefully these are too.
