Current Trade in Promos:

GS FAQ

How many copies of a game can I trade in?
You are allowed to trade in 4 copies of the same game (same system) within a rolling 30 day period.

What do I need to trade in an older console?
The console, power cable, av cable, and controller. Sometimes they don't care about USB charge cable but ymmv. 3DS XL trade would be console, charger, and stylus. Some have reported being charged a refurb fee for missing the stylus, but again ymmv (answer stolen from anarchyburger)

FAQ will be entered when those questions get asked frequently.

Does the Pro Membership B2G1 coupon apply to only games, or accessories as well?
The coupon applies to both games and accessories, per the wording on the coupon.

I have a $XX.xx pre-owned reward certificate, and I want to use it on a B2G1 transaction. Should I?
It depends. If the three games are equal value, do not use your certificate. The value of the certificate would be applied to the free game, which would not benefit you. If one game is more expensive, you can use the certificate to make it the same value as the other two games ($5 reward certificate applied to transaction with two $10 games and one $15 game would make all three games $10).

TERMINOLOGY AND LINGO:
ASL/SL: Assistant Store Leader, Store Leader; manager positions at GS.
B2G1: Buy two, get one free. Typically refers to the coupon you receive when becoming Pro.
GCU/BB: Gamer’s Club Unlocked, Best Buy
GS: GameStop
JD: Junior detective, an employee who is out to get someone
LP: Loss Prevention; this is the department that actually bans accounts after being flagged.
TC/TiC: Trade credit.
TIV/TV: Trade in value, or what a game currently trades for. When posting a TV for a game, always use the base value.

Picked up Doom before work and it didn’t have the G2L code on it. I wonder if it’s because it’s before the 9pm usual midnight release or what so just be aware.
Happened to me as well.

Multiple outlets on twitter are reporting street date of Animal Crossing was changed in the system for 3/19. Call your stores first though.
Confirmed, it's nationwide. Stores won't be calling people for it tho, if you just go in and ask they will give it to you. No G2L code for AC either.

Just curious looking at store listings I saw this on one mall location, all the other ones dont say this including others in a mall...

Is that mall closed? I know some malls are closing. The one I go to near Buffalo NY is closed until further notice.

California governor issues "stay at home alert" effective midnight tonight which includes closure of non-essential stores.

Wanted to pickup AC tonight but my store says they can't sell it until tomorrow.  Store 5 miles away (where I don't have it pre-ordered) said they're selling it.   I'm not sure either store will be open tomorrow.

good news, gamestop is an (self proclaimed) essential store, so they will be open tomorrow!

Does Gamestop have enough cash reserves to survive being closed for 1-2 maybe more months? Unless this pandemic turns around fast I don't see how they could stay open much longer. I have a feeling once those doors close they won't open again. Think I'm gonna play it safe and cash out my next-gen nest egg.
They don't. They will reopen, but it's Chapter 11 shortly after that. I see some others in this thread are thinking like I am, that maybe the time to cash out is now even though I really don't want to.

Order is the same shelter in place that the 6 counties have had. Gamestop will stay open probably. But screw him for saying it will be 8 weeks or longer. Shutting down the State for several months is insane.

Yeah, I don’t want to cash out yet, especially since I would prefer to buy the PS5 through them with the built up credit I have. But they’re making it harder to justify even going in anymore. If I didn’t have some stuff to return, I probably wouldn’t go in for a couple weeks, at minimum. It’s unfortunate they don’t have free release day delivery for Pro members, especially during all this.

Are you prepared to argue with the authorities that obtaining a copy of Animal Crossing is somehow "essential"?

Depends entirely on if/how much they'd be allowed to borrow given the circumstances. They're making every effort to survive until the next console generation, but they'd be surviving entirely on credit in this case.

With the huge trillion dollar bailout package that is close to being passed it will have very low interest loan and grant money for companies effected by the CV fallout.  My guess is they will find a way to tap into those pools of money to keep afloat until the holiday season.

You guys in CA and everywhere else, stay safe. It's getting crazy here in NY and I would think we are next for shutdown. I just want AC before it happens.

If lockdowns happen all over, thanks for CAG helping us all get huge backlogs.

Our governor thinks half the state will end up with the virus. I’m going out to find water and rice and then I’m staying home for at least a few days.

A mall near me closed a couple days ago and their store listing looks like that.

I went to the store that told me they weren't selling it tonight and of course they were selling it, handing out posters, etc. Only about 10 people in the store. One of the cashiers was wearing gloves, the other was not.

Glove-less cashier was new, confused, failed to process my G2L for MLB the Show 20 and had her hands in her face at one point rubbing her eye. It was brief, the kind of thing I wouldn't have even noticed 2 weeks ago. But when she asked to see my license to pick up my pre-order, I was like, "I'm not handing it to you." I had to laugh at myself tho cause she touched my poster and game already. But I was annoyed she was acting like she didn't know what G2L was about. I had to get back in line for the manager to process my G2L, and he ended up refunding me the tax as well, so I don't know what he did. But he got it done.

The cats in there were shopping like usual, touching everything and I'm 100% that I was the only one trying to maintain 3 feet or more.

Picked up my AC, and like Cube said, "No flexin', didn't even look in a brotha's direction as I ran Animal Crossing through the intersection..." lol

I filled by freezer last week, have to go out and get a chromebook from my sons school and get few more things then I'm in for awhile too.

You really shouldn't have talen the poster. The Doom tin is probably worth it, but definitely not the poster.

Kind of a Catch-22 for law enforcment. If I can't go buy Animal Crossing, then GS shouldn't be allowed to sell Animal Crossing during the crisis.

I seriously doubt he believes those figures. It's a worse case scenario in order to justify his actions. (Sorry if I'm veering a bit off topic. Hard to avoid the subject even in a gaming forum right now.)

TBH CV is effecting our gaming quite a bit right now. Game releases, console release dates, store closings, Amazon not shipping items. It's a weird world right now..

GameStop is suspending their trade-ins until March 29th

It’s on their website now and i heard it directly from my friend who is a manager the other day

Should go into effect tomorrow 3/20

Anyone picking up games plan accordingly

Yeah, I'm usually at home so this doesn't really alter my routine. Sad thing is I've been at home for almost two weeks and instead of actually finishing Gears 5, Judgment or any game on Gamepass all I've been doing is watching the Covid19 news and playing Dr. Mario on my phone while listening.

Just downloaded Animal Crossing instead of picking it up so maybe that will let me relax a bit. Never played one before except Pocket Camp so hoping its similar to Stardew Valley instead of Pocket Camp.

Also just in case you guys don't check the free Xbox stuff thread, Microsoft has been giving a bunch of random games away for free. Mostly sims but still something to do.

Hate to break it to you friend, but we're probably in this boat until a vaccine is found, which is expected to be over a year. It's insane, but the alternative is even worse.

How likely am I to get an error when buying a digital copy of animal crossing with trade in credit on their site?
I need to spend this trade in credit because I’m sure GameStop is done by May at this rate and need to cash out now.
I’ve heard people lose trade in credit with errors/cancelation orders on the site.
Are digital codes instant too?

Kinda thinking I should have cancelled the other pre-orders I have at Gamestop right now. I only have a few right now, but the likely-hood of the company existing after this is looking slim.

They are making a massive PR mistake right now by staying open. The greed and desperation of this company is just unreal.

FYI - Purchased AC digitally earlier this week and received the $10 reward coupon in my active offers this morning!

Now I’ll call customer service and ask them to trade me for 10,000 points since going to stores is discouraged.

For sure, this person is making matters worse by touching their face and then your products though someone wearing gloves might do the same. This person may have picked up the virus from any of the people who came into the store earlier and spread it to any number of people who came in later. People seem reluctant to understand the science here, that people can show no symptoms but still carry and pass this thing.

For sure, this worker "is a problem" but it's pretty wild to complain about any worker who is getting paid so little to deal with all of this insanity.

The problem is that the stores are still open, that there are employees like this all over the country, and that there are people who would be willing to potentially contribute to the spread of this thing over a video game that you can easily buy digitally.

Shameful posts on here of people enabling socially irresponsible behavior (that might very well contribute to the deaths of others).

If you aren't exploiting this store you should be boycotting it.

As someone who followed this since January, I'm sure he believes it. People don't comprehend exponential growth. Even if everyone followed social distancing, it's still high enough R0 to be exponential.

The amount of people who already have it in the state is probably already over a million by now, which you get either calculating from a conservative value of R0, or backwards from hospitalizations using other countries' stats.

The problem is 80% of those won't have any symptoms, but will infect people exponentially if nothing is done. And of the remaining 20% that will show symptoms, you'll have confirmation in a week or two. But that's the thing with exponential growth -- By the time it's obvious to everyone it's bad, it'll be too late.

So the 54% means about 10% will have symptoms, and ~2% will require hospitalization. It doesn't mean that half the state will be coughing their lungs out.

And even acting this late in the game is already showings we will be out of resources.

But the consequences of my being wrong is much better than your being wrong. And you'll know in a week or two if it's an overreaction or not. Frankly, we've acted too slow as it is.

Im not sure if its closed but other malls I know did close do not say that which is odd unless they just messed up on which mall location was closed haha wouldnt surprise me

So GS is suspending trade-ins... not sure how they survive now. It's one thing if they actually closed stores, they could still operate online to an extent but no trade ins means they lose a substantial portion of their inventory.

Just remember to be kind when you're out there, even if an employee is irritated, moving slow, incorrect, or whatever. Everyone is dealing with an incredible amount of stress and employees that are working in a customer facing role have it the worst at the moment. There also aren't a lot of options to get employment elsewhere at the moment, so they are just going to have to try to bear it to the best of their ability to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table.

Save those bad reviews for another time. Just smile and if they are being completely unreasonable, leave and come back another day.

You know what the most kind thing you could do for the employees is? Don't freaking go to the store in the first place. :whee:

I totally get that. But on the other side, people still need jobs. Jobs wont exist if we just shut down society. People also have games preordered and want to pick them up so they can relax too.

I am just saying that if you are going out, be cool. Be patient. And be kind.

so has anyone picked up their games this morning? are GtL codes printing now that it's Friday?

If the "trade ban" goes into effect does that also include GtL?

The online reward cert mentions that I can't use it on DLC. What about a digital game?
Wondering the same thing. Also wondering if the online reward certs even work now, since people were having problems with them recently.

Like others, I'm considering cashing out my credit (and reward points). Will probably go for Xbox credit and order a Series X direct from MS.

Couldn't use my online cert on anything digital. Stacked a $25 and a $15 toward physical copy of Animal Crossing and a Pro Controller. Also made a couple online orders for Xbox credit and had no issues.

Had AC pre-ordered at GS but they adjusted their hours to not open until 12 so I just got it at Walmart.  They had tons of copies for $49.94.

I love how Gamestop is challenging my state's governor's mandatory closure by telling their employees that they're an essential, life-sustaining business.
