GS FAQ

How many copies of a game can I trade in?
You are allowed to trade in 4 copies of the same game (same system) within a rolling 30 day period.

What do I need to trade in an older console?
The console, power cable, av cable, and controller. Sometimes they don't care about USB charge cable but ymmv. 3DS XL trade would be console, charger, and stylus. Some have reported being charged a refurb fee for missing the stylus, but again ymmv (answer stolen from anarchyburger)

FAQ will be entered when those questions get asked frequently.

Does the Pro Membership B2G1 coupon apply to only games, or accessories as well?
The coupon applies to both games and accessories, per the wording on the coupon.

I have a $XX.xx pre-owned reward certificate, and I want to use it on a B2G1 transaction. Should I?
It depends. If the three games are equal value, do not use your certificate. The value of the certificate would be applied to the free game, which would not benefit you. If one game is more expensive, you can use the certificate to make it the same value as the other two games ($5 reward certificate applied to transaction with two $10 games and one $15 game would make all three games $10).

TERMINOLOGY AND LINGO:
ASL/SL: Assistant Store Leader, Store Leader; manager positions at GS.
B2G1: Buy two, get one free. Typically refers to the coupon you receive when becoming Pro.
GCU/BB: Gamer’s Club Unlocked, Best Buy
GS: GameStop
JD: Junior detective, an employee who is out to get someone
LP: Loss Prevention; this is the department that actually bans accounts after being flagged.
TC/TiC: Trade credit.
TIV/TV: Trade in value, or what a game currently trades for. When posting a TV for a game, always use the base value.

Not sure if you're asking if qualifying purchases need to be made exclusively in-store, but here's my pruchase history which triggered a $30 coupon:

Purchase 1: $97 (in store)
Purchase 2: $115 (in store)
Purchase 3: $106 (online)

So looks like it works whether you bought stuff in store or online.
Got mine via purchase of gift cards since was attempting to get a PS5 on site since instore was mess. Gonna hold off until next month when a bit more is available to use on

Was that pre-tax or post-tax? Quick math suggests 6% tax rate you'd still clear $300, but just checking. Thanks!

Anybody get any NCAA's with the B1G1 free deal?

I've had many problems with FedEx as well. The most recent was a package sent from several states over, that got "delivered" the same day it was picked up, obviously not to me. I called FedEx to complain. I got through immediately, which was impressive I suppose. Talked to India to explain the situation, verify my tracking info, destination, and such. The lady just sighed, no joke. I guess there were alot of complaints. She said the package wasn't delivered, but rather the driver just hit the wrong button. She said it's still in route, and she could see stuff I couldn't. I complained about the tracking website over and over again, and after I got flustered, she escalated all my dozen other packages to next day. I got a stack of yellow packages the next morning, even ones that were on the other side of the country the prior day. I guess it pays to complain. [edit - I also got the package that was incorrectly shown as delivered.]

The tracking website is hot garbage. It doesn't reflect actual dates. Public info is skimpy, and apparently much is hidden to customers. You pretty much have to check each package you ordered to see if it's on the truck for delivery that day, and even that won't yield 100% accuracy. Mystery packages apparently stuck in other states just suddenly arrive out of the blue, without warning.

I still have "pending" orders I already received, apparently still waiting for carrier pickup. Stuck at Label Created. LOL, what a mess they have.

I think UPS has a much better policy on keeping their customers updated on accurate delivery dates. "Innovation", no, however. In general though, UPS seems faster IMO. FedEx seems to only pick up from stores once or twice per week. UPS did pickups daily while on their route. It's the FED-Ex packages that sit at Label Created for days and then some more days that kill delivery time.
I've had this happen a few times, so I stopped calling about it. It will typically show up 1 or 2 days later.

I also regret not buying some GS stock (like $100 worth) when it was in the $4 range late 2019 and pre-COVID 2020. Instead I bought stock in a retail mall REIT.... *sigh* COVID, you've been a bitch.
Yea, once I reached the "Free trades" threshold @ BoA I started just buying random amounts of stock in random companies I was semi-interested in, or just wanted to own some of. GME doesn't seem like too risky a choice. Debating when to dive into the cruise stocks pre-post-COVID here!

Thanks for the data point. I track my purchases pretty well and if the promo started 9-13 and "qualifying purchases" exclude game-credit (like eshop cards) or pre-orders... am still short like 3x $30 coupons. The 1st of the missing $30 are a rolling 11 days ago, so it seems like it should have been awarded at least one more by now ( which is why I started to wonder if maybe the "qualifying purchases" was either online or in-store only. :bomb: )

Not always. I did get Persona 4 Golden & Trails of Cold Steel with their cases a couple weeks ago.
I got some complete $0.99 PS2 games from the warehouse recently, so its not totally out of the question. Random stores = random stock. I am weird and usually take pictures of each store's "retro" Wii U / Wii / PS3 / 360 / 3DS section so I can do some cheap complete-er pickups for B6G50% or B1G1. Sadly with the upcoming store resets I hear most of the retro sections will be soon stored in the back room with a binder of titles at the front... to make room for more Office 365 kiosks I'm sure. :oldman:

Anyone make a trade towards next gen games since Tuesday?
Aside from the trade promos being absent from the website, There haven't been any trade value updates this week from what I'm tracking. I usually notice changes done on Tuesdays and Fridays.

I went in store yesterday to confirm the following :

The +5 for switch games no longer works.

The +5 for xb1/ps4/switch games over 5 base towards next gen games no longer works.

20% towards preorder of select games is the only active promo as far as i can tell.

Confirmed the buy game over $29.99, get 30% off a used game is still going on in store for those buying FIFA for G2L. Coupon was applied to FIFA when I picked up a $54.99 used game so you get the coupon amount back in trade credit.

Does GameStop still have the extra console credit toward PS5 pre order promo? It was their weeks ago and said it would last thru 11/20 but it’s not on their trade in page now. Said $200 for PS4 Pro

If I remember correctly that was total you would get ($200) if you traded a PS4 Pro or Xbox One X towards a preorder of a PS5 or XBSX.

yeah I have a pro I was going to wait until week of PS5 to trade toward my pre order. It’s strange they’ve taken it off their site even tho it said it would run thru 11/30

I had an Xbox 1 500gb I was going to hang on to and do the same thing. Instead I sold locally it for $150 with an extra headset, chat pad, and crappy game. Under market price, but it sold quick with no BS, and I don't have to deal with both finding a store where I can actually pre-order it whenever that is possible, nor the whole trade in process. Now I can use that cash anywhere I find a PS4. Just saying, something to think about.

I reread and see you already have a pre-order, but anyway, still valid otherwise for more cash in your pocket.

Well, today marked one week since the release of Crash 4 and I still haven't received my pre-order. Fed Ex handed off the package to a USPS facility 30 miles from my house on OCTOBER 3RD.

And they wonder why their company is failing.

Yeah this is totally GameStop's fault.
It is. It has everything to do with the horrendous contracts they have with their shipping partners. I have been getting Best Buy packages as quickly as next day, but vary rarely more than two days. They use UPS from start to finish. GS uses Fed Ex for 2-day but then they hand it off to USPS. The really dumb thing is that the package at one point was in TN. It went past my house (in PA) up to NJ, then handed off to the Harrisburg USPS facility just 30 mins north of me. It's apparently been sitting there for a week. There's absolutely no way that should happen.

Not that this is going to help, but this is pretty much the norm with shipping right now. I’m in management at a logistics company and UPS and FedEx terminals are operating way behind. They’re blaming staffing struggles with Covid but there’s definitely more to it than just that. Nationwide all shipping is a disaster right now, I’m regularly seeing what used to be 2 day shipments take up to 2-3 weeks without moving from a terminal. With the holiday retail shipping and flu season coming up it’s going to get even worse soon. A lot of terminals are placing embargoes on incoming shipments to reroute them to facilities out of their path just to try to spread out the workload because they’re so far behind.

Fed-Ex is a downgrade from UPS, no two ways about it.

UPS picked up packages daily. Fed-Ex, picks up once or twice per week, from stores.. To start the delivery process they need to have the package in their possession first. Then delivery happens. If they never pick up the package, then it's irritating. It just sits and collects dust. "Label-Created" for days or weeks - without ever being picked up.

Shit just sits at Label-Created for days. Wonderful. Fed-Ex is shit. Anyone who buys from GameStop / Fedex knows what I'm talking about.

By all means, defend Fed-Ex. Tell us how great they are. Tell us how other shippers are comparable to UPS, when they are not. Relate to us how all shipping companies are affected, when UPS was super fine before GS moved to Fed-Ex, during the pandemic.

Tell me why Fed-Ex is better than UPS.

Because UPS specializes in domestic ground shipments and FedEx specializes in international air freight and time sensitive document delivery.

They're two completely different segments of the logistics world.

GameStop's shipments are largely domestic.

For Gamestop: they're better because they're cheaper.

For consumers: they're better because it means GS is trying something common sense (i.e., cutting costs) to stay alive longer.

I'm not going to say FedEx is as good as UPS, because they're not... yet. It's a fairly recent change but FedEx didn't get to be as big as it is by being a terrible carrier. This is just speculation but since someone else said it, I've also heard their domestic presence is smaller than UPS' so it's possible (or really, probable) that they're seeing less global traffic right now due to COVID meaning they have to make up those #s elsewhere so maybe they just under-cut UPS for some domestic clients. I noticed Target and WM both use FedEx more often now than UPS... at least for me.

And again ups wasn't exactly doing that well until semi recently. People seem quick to forget that from may to july they were shipping packages and it'd take a month minimum to get them at times.  So I don't know why you are some are so hung up on fedex here.  Yes there are a lot of issues people are having currently.  But people were having them with ups too so this is nothing new. Whether its increased since the switch over I can't tell you as there isn't and hard numbers to indicate.

The only thing I do agree with is that they don't stop in as often at stores as ups did so that slows things a bit.  But it is what it is.  I'm not really seeing any difference speed wise currently from ups or fedex shipping though.  Most of my orders ship the same day as I order them.  Some have even shipped and arrived in 2 days time when they are in the same state. I've had one order that was lost in transit but that's it thus far.

Fedex is the only company that has sent my packages between two different state mutlple times (neither the state I lived in or it originated in) and delivered me boxes they've damaged and tried to tape up. They are bad at their job. Pre-pandemic and currently, they are awful.

Does this mean that any company that uses Fed Ex is bad? Gamestop sent out a package the way they were supposed to and it is taking a painfully long time to get to someone. Sorry to that person but ranting on Gamestop and saying it's their fault is stretching a bit. Gamestop has so many issues but this is pushing it.

The only reason GS is using Fed Ex now instead of UPS is b/c they are cheaper. Go over to the GS Reddit and read the stories of Fed Ex leaving packages just sitting outside the store before open or at another retailer in the same strip or how the workers will be on single coverage with a customer and the Fed Ex delivery driver will just leave the package on the doormat inside where anyone could take it.

Fedex is trash. Exponentially worse than any company ever. Ordered new networking gear for the new house build and BHPhoto only uses FedEx. It was a nightmare. They showed delivered multiple times and didn't deliver. Luckily I have cameras all around the house and went to their corporate offices with all the recordings. Finally they admitted they lost my stuff in their warehouse then magically found it.

So does Game Coin tied to a specific title require full preorder prepayment yes or no? Someone made a thread in GS Reddit about it and all the employees are saying it does, but I'm sure users here got it w/o preordering (although I didn't get one for buying NBA Kobe Edition on Sunday, Sept. 6 just because they had an extra on XBox and I had a trade plus $5 cert.)

I prepaid Watch Dogs Legion in advance just in case as the promotion says to get the $20 Game Coin it had to be, and with how unreliable Game Coin delivery has been I'm worried I won't get my $30 Game Coin for spending $300 (so far qualifying purchases are Mario 3D All Stars, Star Wars Squadron, Joker/Hero Amiibo, Makoto Queen PoP, & 3 Cyberpunk Totaku, with Watch Dogs Legion, Legend of Heroes: ToCS IV, Yakuza 7, and Spider-Man Miles Morales to go.)

I got my Game Coin for Avengers and NBA 2k late prepaying in advance. I did the same with Crash 4 and it was in my active offers by Sunday. I prepaid Fifa 21 in full so I don’t wanna risk not getting it because I didn’t do it as stated. I just wish there was a tracker for the spend $300 promo like they had for the quests last year.

I’ve seen employees saying that, but GameStop’s website says “Is a pre-order required to receive Game Coin?
A pre-order isn’t required at this time. However purchases must be made within the first week of the new game launch, which will be specified with each Game Coin offer.”

How can you prepay if you don’t pre-order?

Can someone post whatever rules there were for the $30/$300 before it disappeared? I just realized that with G2L on two copies of Avengers and NBA2K21, and now FIFA, I might be good.

Is anyone else having trouble with the G2L program? Seems to be very inconsistent. I had a return instead of trade one time- probably lost $10 game coin. Another lady refused to enter the EBC code which reduced the TIV and told my brother to trade it back to the store he purchased from. Too many JDs and a poorly executed program.

Limit one Game Coin coupon per transaction. Shipping may apply. Terms subject to change.

So. I placed a pick up order for the new super luckys tale dotd. I go to the store and they tell me that they changed the pickup location. The store they changed it to is one of the ones that closed down in January.

LOL! I keep seeing my local store showing stock on new product, but it's been locked up every time I go there for months now.

Had my first bad experience with an employee in a long time. Sadly it was at my home store and with what I assume is the SL who took over for the normal SL. I went in to trade back 2 copies of FIFA for the G2L (1 PS4 and 1 X1), as well as return Star Wars Squadrons and Crash (because I re-bought them online to get Avengers at 50% off). First he says I can only trade in the PS4 version of FIFA because he sees I bought the Ultimate edition of FIFA for X1 (I did but I also bought the standard at that store and picked it up yesterday with the PS4 version). He doesn't want to hear it and is set on him being right. He goes through my purchase history more and then asks why I want to return Crash and Squadrons, I tell him that I bought them online to get a discount on another game. He uses a second computer to do some more checking (at this point I am guessing he just looked me up by name to see my other accounts). Said he would do the refund but would no longer allow me to return stuff. He mentions something about how I am getting the game coins on multiple accounts. No idea what that has to do with the returns, as neither were going to get me game coins (I didn't pre-order Crash). I told him my accounts were all approved by the DM and corporate. He just brushed it off. Ended up cancelling the pre-order I had and left. Not really sure if it's worth burning him on a survey. I also don't know if he is going to have my accounts flagged and call other stores.

Sleepwalk: I think you tried to do too much in one transaction. You drew too much attention to yourself and your account (s).

I mean I can't exactly blame him. You gotta use a bit more discretion.

What did you expect trading back in two newly released games and returning 2 newly released games all in the same transaction? Doesn't matter if FIFA 21 was on PS4 and X1, you only do that shit when you have a big stack of games.

This is how stuff gets killed off, by people abusing the system (in this case returns, and the G2L system).

Had both those things happen. Just go to another store and trade it in, and if possible avoid going to that particular store [or at the very least avoiding that particular employee] from here on out.

You made it way too obvious that you were gaming the system and drew attention to your accounts in the process. You basically committed account self destruct. Why did you try to do everything at once?

Thanks, so Avengers and NBA were before that start date so won't count. Hmm. Still, worth looking into more with enough G2L titles between now and Thanksgiving.

I placed an order for $75 of games that dropped in value before arriving, so returned them instead of trading... Thoughts on whether those would count? I returned them and put that straight into two-preorders, for what it's worth.
