The General 360 Owners/Buyers FAQ Thread (Updated 1/15/10)
Anyone know if Blockbuster takes video game trade ins?
...Huh? Really?
I think they only take movies.
Wuh?!

Yes, Blockbuster takes trade-ins. That's what the majority of this thread is about. I couldn't tell if either of you were joking, so I chose to not give the benefit of the doubt. :)
what are some workarounds for having a trade account banned? I have one person who will start a trade account and help me trade in. Has anyone ever had a ban reversed? What if I get a different debit card and create a whole new BB account?

I recently had to go to a small town outside Jacksonville for work and hit both BBs there and traded games. Both said they had almost never traded before, I wonder if the manager there sent up a flag on my account...all the BBs here love me. I can't imagine any of them doing anything.

The letter actually came from corporate is what one store manager told me.
I've had a ban reversed, it just took a new DM appearing on the scene. After about 6 months of down time, I asked the store manager if the trade ban could be lifted, she called the new DM and it was approved. But during the same time I had discovered that the Ban was store specific and had started trading at regular BB's in my district. Just this weekend I visited a store where the ban was originally in place (the 3 GR's in the DM's district had the ban in place), and managed to trade a game successfully. Others have mentioned this in the past but inactive accounts drop off of the local systems after about 3-6 months if you do not rent or use your membership card to buy stuff, so I guess this store (which is out of my way) met that standard. I plan on testing the last store of the 3 at some point in the near future, unless a get corp-a-banned like bezerker seems to have happended.

Bezerker, when you call corporate, make sure you express your strong feeling of being descriminated against, and ask for something in writing indicating the reason for the ban, and yes refer to the trade agreement in strong terms, it is the contract between you and bb.

Also, do they take games disc only? Just got into the trading to BB over Gamestop thing the other day.

Thanks!
Probably not very much, most of those sell pretty cheap at BB. Warioware might get a few bucks more than the rest, but I dunno.

Disc only, prolly not. Case with no artwork, maybe. Just depends on the store. I have two local stores, one always just look it up and enters it manually, but the other one refuses to take games without cover art.
Anyone know if Blockbuster takes video game trade ins?
I really hope that was a joke.

I'm actually banned at one BBV, but since I have so many others in the area, I haven't given it a second thought. They just tell me that "they don't accept trades" when I did go there, even though I saw clearly on the screen of their computers "DO NOT TRADE TO THIS CUSTOMER!" on my account.

It didn't even have anything to do with flipping. The manager was a bitch and wouldn't put my credit on a value card for me, stating it's against the policy. She refused to reverse the trade, saying she couldn't do it (blatant lie, she's the manager). And then she denied me the district manager's number because she "didn't have it." I came back later and had another employee put it on a card for me.

If I weren't paranoid about bringing attention to my own flipping self, I'd have found out the number right away.

I don't know if any of you live near eStarland in Virginia but the are having a trade-in promotion. The games can also be shipped directly to the store too but I guess this offer is for the most dedicated flippers, seeing as how this would take some time to do. Here is the e-mail I got from them regarding the promotion:

"Now is the perfect time to trade-in all the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 games you’ve finished recently because we’ve got a great trade-in special going on right now. We’re offering an additional 20% for trade-ins of Xbox 360 and Playstation 2 games. That means you can receive up to $42 credit on some games! With so many great games coming out in the near future such as Little Big Planet, Resistance 2, Gears of War 2 and Fallout 3, there’s no better time to trade-in your older Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 games.

Receiving the extra 20% trade-in credit is easy. All you have to do is include a piece of paper with a short phrase that you think best describes eStarland. Just make sure you have “Extra 20% ” somewhere on the paper.

There’s only one catch!
All trade-ins must be shipped by (postmarked) by October 11, 2008!

Your trade-ins may be eligible for a free pre-paid shipping label! More information may be found here!
http://www.estarland.com/EZShipService.html

You can start trading in right away by clicking the link below:

https://www.estarland.com/phplive/c.php?k=1.23.3

Extra 20% credit will be added at the time of order completion. Credit may be used for purchase or cash-out. Offer applies to new trade-in orders only. A maximum of 2 of the same game may be traded in. Promotion only applies to games. Maxmium extra 20% credit cannot exceed $70 credit

Thank you for your business!
I have yet to try another district, but at the time I'm just tired of flipping in general.
There is a GameRush store just off Palm Parkway in Lakeland. Don't know where exactly in the Tampa area you are, but it's probably far enough to be another district without going to Orlando or such. In general, the people there are friendly and I've never had any trading issues there.

They made it easy to figure out a district boundary. Just last week they started displaying the store manager and district managers name and number on the wall.

Traded in the following on Monday: (All PS3)
Rockband - $26
NBA 2K8 - $16
Motorstorm -$13 (Came with PS3)
Marvel Ultimate Alliance - $13

Couldn't beleive I got $26 for Rockband still, with the new one out on the 360 already and the PS3 version coming in like 3 weeks.

Man, this store doesn't make any sense. $23 TIV for Sea Monsters? $14.90 for Table Tennis? I just bought that for $14.99 from them last week. I understand that since they pay out in credit they make a little money, but it seems silly.

Anyway, I got two TIV's today:
Boogie :wii: $16 (no microphone - I had it and offered it but they said it wouldn't change the TIV, so I kept the mic)
WWE Smackdown 2008 :wii: $9 (I kept this one - it was $7.48 at Target and after tax it wasn't worth the flip to credit)

Just got done a run and got a 120 gig hard drive, a wavebird, and about $110 worth of games to trade in. I think once I get all the credit back to GS I'm gonna take a break for a couple weeks then start up again for Fable II and Fallout 3.

Today's TIV to GS (more of the same) All 9.99 except for Table Tennis (6.99):
Wii
Nights 12.70
Metal Slug 11.60
Avatar: Burning Earth 10.50
Meet the Robinsons 10.50
Elebits 10.50
Legend of Spyro 11.60

360
Soldier of Fortune 11.60
Table Tennis 7.20
Sega Rally Revo 10.50
FlatOut 10.50
Spider-Man: FOF 10.50

I fully expected to be hit with some refurb fees but the guy was just checking to see if the discs were in there and scanning them lightning fast. I really liked that... what I didn't like was when I went to check out with a wavebird and Monster Jam he almost took my daughter's head off when the hand held scanner accidentally flung out of his hands.

I think 14.90 was for Table Tennis TIV at GS with bonuses (almost even flip) I would also recommend trading WWE Smackdown at GS since it's 26.99 used and will fetch at least 10 with the bonus (more likely 12-14). Sea Monsters and Cranium Kabooki are oddities since Sea Monsters trades in for $2 less than the used price and Cranium Kabooki for $1 more.

Ugh, I double posted. Oh well.
Did the trade in value for Alone in the Dark (360) hold at $28.50?
I need to know. Please call them. (I was making fun of you Poor... I don't need the quote. Call up different BBVs. Not all of them deny you.)

Has anyone had a CSR at GS ask them why they have such a small coupon? The guy at one GS today asked me why it was so miniature. I just said I print them(mistake ;)) small so they(again, mistake) use less ink. His response was, "So you print them in masses? We really don't care though, so don't answer!" Great guy. Just took too long to checkout three games.

Found a lot of games today. Two of them being the best flips around right now. One piece and Luxor. But the problem is... Out of the 14 stickers I just peeled off, only TWO came off right. Every other sticker is a piece of shit. These games are so old >_

Denied a quote over the phone, tried 2 BB, so can anyone confirm the TIV of Alone in the Dark 360?

I just found a Target doing their electronics markdown today for some reason. EOJ was 17.48. That means $30 for the disc at BB, $25 for the camera on Ebay, and $20 or so for the rares in the package is 17.48-->75.

And I went to a different district and was told the ban came down from corporate and given a 1800 number to call

ok, so I'm curious how many trades a week have you been doing to GR/BB.

I just talked to a CSR at the 800 number, she said until I get the letter from corporate there is nothing they can do to resolve it. Hopefully its in my mailbox today.
There are around 20 BBs and about the same number of GS here in the metro area, I probably swap an average of 3-4 a day(when I'm in a particular area, I hit the GS and then the BBs). I have never swapped more than 2x a title at the same store/same day. I rarely do more than one(like, twice ever).

My main point was this:I am bringing you copies of newer, used stuff that you are asking for (and even promoting your high trade values), and taking all your trash(who else is buying Manhunt 2 for the PS2???), I have never exceeded the amount specified in the trade agreement, so what is the problem?

That's a fairly high # if it's a daily average, I have about 6 BB's and 10 GS's in a 15 mile radius and on an average week I trade maybe 8 games in total into BB, I basically try to trade enough each week to pay for the games I buy in the same period. The insanely competitive nature in OC means most ppl are unable to trade aggressively, which may be why we're not littered with banned individuals.

Dammit, I'm sitting here with nothing to do. I'm in a hotel lobby waiting for some data to get here on a hard drive that I have to work on all evening. I'm pissed though because not too far from here is a Gamestop with BOTH SST and One Piece - games which I can't find anywhere else, let alone at 1 store together. I even have some BB stuff to flip there... Arghhh - I could have run out and been back by now.

Bored, bored, bored... :whee:

I'm even tired of reading CAG...

And yeah, Capa, that's a pretty high amount of trading. I am probably like stoned99 - more like 8 a week. And that has only been going on the last few weeks because of the GS coupons and the return flips available at BB.

Alright... So you guys can be relieved of my badgering of BBV/GR employees as to when they are getting the new 80GB PS3.

While stopping at a Saginaw, MI store I asked if they had any of the new gift cards and they had the gaming site membership ones and the XBL and PSN cards. I then asked about what PS3 they carried assuming to hear "Just the 40gb ones"... But much to my suprise, they told me that they just received a shipment of the new 80GB models. However, they were not in the system yet and so they put one on hold for me and told me to call back on Friday when the system should be updated. They will be selling at the MSRP of 399.99.

Also...

AitD (Wii) still catches 30.
I have never exceeded the amount specified in the trade agreement, so what is the problem?
What is the amount specified in the trade agreement... is there a copy online somewhere?

I didnt mean 3-4 games a day, I meant 3-4 stops, with 3-4 games at each, so 10-15 games a day, from GS to BB, and then enough of the crap $10 games to get that credit back to GS .

there is a letter at the BB checkout posted that states a limit of 2 copies of any one title to any one store in the same day.
I didnt mean 3-4 games a day, I meant 3-4 stops, with 3-4 games at each, so 10-15 games a day, from GS to BB, and then enough of the crap $10 games to get that credit back to GS .
 Holy crap... Well, that puts you in kunai's league my friend
I wonder if you hit the mythical $10,000 trade-in value limit that we've heard is imposed on trade accounts. That may seem like a lot but remember that's gross and not profit. For example it would only take 500 $20 trades at BB to hit that - at 10-15 games per day with probably an average close to $20 it wouldn't take long. To put it in perspective I have not yet hit that limit in my nearly 4 years of trading at GR and BB (I keep track on a spreadsheet so I know).

Anyway, how the hell do you have time for 3-4 stops a day? It takes me a couple hours to do that many stops and it is usually 1 or 2 games per (since I can't find that many different things at GS for BB at once).

I mean, I'm doing what I consider a lot of flipping while I'm here in Arizona for work. But that means buying a couple of crap games at BB, trading them to GS and buying 1 or 2 games there, trading them to a BB, then buying 2 or 3 cheap more games, and then maybe finally trading them at another GS (and not buying anything because there's nothing worth it). I've been doing that like once per day the last 3 days but only because I'm travelling for work and have no other responsibilities in the evening ;).

I hate to say it, but it's really no wonder that you're banned, unless (like Kunai) you had friend managers at those locations. I've been easing off a little lately, as BBVs in my area all recognize me and pull up my account before I even get to the register. Pretty much all my local GSs know me by sight and a few by name as well.

They all seem nice enough and I get into conversations with them about gaming, but you never know what will trigger something for someone's suspicion meter, especially if they start recognizing you as bringing in the same game 2-3 times over the course of a month.

i'm geographically lucky, there is almost always 1 gs within 5 miles of any bb,and often 2 GS. There is a mall with a gs,eb, a gs across the street to the north, and a gs across the street to the west

Actually, if I had a Action Replay or whatever, I'd want to give Manhunt 2 a whirl, since I want to see the kills they supposedly censored in order for it to be released. The one I heard alot about supposedly involved pliers and a particularly sensitive part of the anatomy.

Maybe I'm a sadist at heart, but I just wanna see how truly bad this kill move was that it was censored. However, it requires an AR to uncensor and I never see those go on clearance, but I still want to play the game because I liked the first.

I will let you know about that mythical trade in limit of 10000 by this Jan. I currently have 2300 in credit and I have bought 2 wiis, 3 wii fits, 2 pokemon ds lites, 1 psp god of war psp 1 60 GB ps 3 and a 1600 dollar sony 40 inch tv,and countless games to flip to GS all with credit from BB. I started flipping in Feb of 2008. Its fun but I hope to get at least a couple of thousand more when GS starts buy2 get one free promotions.

Thanks for the info. All the employees I ask are clueless and even deny that an 80gb ps3 exists.

Traded a bunch of games to BB the other day, but most of the games' TIVs have already been posted. Here's one that I didn't see, but might have missed.

WSOP 2008 Battle for Bracelets $19.99 -> $20

Not as good as the price in the OP list.

God damn this sucks. I just popped into my closest BBV and they have no games to flip at all. I saw maybe 4 games. God this sucks. I'm running out of games to flip back to GS. I also have 6 games to flip to BBV, but didn't get a chance to this time.

I started with $200 during the B1g1 at BB, I've put another $400 or so in over the last couple mos(like $200 to CC to get AITD, Fire Emblems, Dragon Quests, etc). I've spent around $1000 on games/accessories for myself to keep, 8 wii, I just picked up my 5th and 6th wii fits, I have 4 Warhammer CEs, and 10 copies of WiiSports. If you figure in my credit I'm sitting on now, I've profited around $4500, so a total trade in amt of 10,000 would be close I think

Yay - they finally told me it will be even longer before the data is ready so I can leave now - after sitting here for 2 1/2 hours. So I'm off to Gamestop to get SST and One Piece. Whoo-hoo!
