The "Kamille stole Char's kick!" anime thread
Just finished Death Note. Decent series, though the ending was kind of weak.
Agreed. The ending was disappointing.

I decided to watch Black Lagoon based on the praise it was getting from you guys. I just finished the story arc with the maid and this series keeps getting better and better. I loved the Terminator references too. Does anyone know if there will be a season 3? 24 episodes aren't enough.

Quick question about episode 7. I don't really understand what happened at the beginning of the conversation between Rock and Revy. He says something about he wouldn't apologize anymore and she gets all pissed and attempts to shoot him. What am I missing here or should I blame it on a poor translation?

Agreed about Deathnote. It was amazing until 25 (massive, obvious, pivotal point in the series) and the next arc was week as well as the ending. I'd probably buy the volumes up until then if the dub seems to be better than the trailer makes it out to be.

Yes.

Once they killed L, I knew things would end up sour. Near was cool but not nearly as good of a character as L. And Mello? Ugh, his bad haircut, feminine figure, and cheesy "I'm 14 but I'm a badass" personality just put me off of him.

I did, however, like Light's insane breakdown, though the manga ending (where it shows Light begging Ryuk to help him, but Ryuk simply kills him) was probably better.

EDIT: Also, anyone mind recommending me something? I've heard from a friend Kenichi is good, I checked up on Ergo Proxy and it seems pretty good (and a thinker, no less). What's this Haruhi Suzuyami or whatever? Is it really a tragedy, because it seems to be classified under comedy on Wikipedia?

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is definitely a comedy, and has a huge following. I've been meaning to watch it. That said, go watch Lucky Star. Its hilarious, and has some video game references. Both animations are done by the same people, and you see Lucky Star littered with Haruhi references.

Alright, cool.

How about serious shows?

What kind of shows do you like? I ask because it makes it easier to recommend stuff. I've seen so much anime that I could rattle off serious shows all day.

Watched the first episode of Naruto. Yeah, I like this. A lot. Glad I have two more boxes on the way. I might as well just pick up the fourth now, too. I enjoy the emphasis on ramen... man I love ramen. Not the shitty kind that comes in a styrofoam cup though... God no.

Oh, and I finished the first arc of Bleach. Fantastic stuff. I wish I wasn't spoiled by the quality of DVDs, cause now I really don't want to watch any fansubs for the series.

I'm not a big anime fan, having only seen Prince of Tennis, Death Note, and most of Naruto (yes, I know all about your anti-Naruto movement). I tried Bleach, but I couldn't get into it. From what I've seen of Ergo Proxy it looks nice.

What I've seen of Ergo Proxy was really good... and most people seem to love the show. It's definitely darker and more serious.

For serious though, the best show is Berserk. Probably my all-time favorite anime. Stuff like Hellsing (TV series and especially Hellsing Ultimate) is also great.

Me? Anti-Naruto movement? I have no idea what you're talking about...

For serious shows I'll just list some of my favorites:

Evangelion
Saikano
Gungrave
Black Lagoon
Haibane Renmei
Now and Then, Here and There
Zeta Gundam
Chevalier D'Eon
Macross
Twelve Kingdoms

Watch all those!

Cool thanks.

I thought you were the guy who didn't like the mainstream anime like Naruto and Bleach?

I'm gonna start finishing Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni... It's amazing for those who haven't seen it. Also I'm gonna start watching Berserk upon Chac's Recommendation. I need to finish Chrono Crusade too.

I hear good things about Gungrave and Ergo Proxy too. I need to do some DVD shopping. Haven't done much.

Oh and for people who like Naruto and Bleach... go watch Hunter x Hunter. 10 times better. I watched Naruto for a while, but the dubs are fuckin' retarded and had to stick to fansubs.Maybe I'll pick back up on that. I watched the first 2 seasons of Bleach but stopped that.

Oh, and I need to watch Negima upon a friends request.
Oh and for people who like Naruto and Bleach... go watch Hunter x Hunter. 10 times better.
They only animated, like, 5% of the series. And the artist died, so even if they do decided to do the rest of it they're still left with an incomplete series.

Not dead, just on a sick leave. And there is plenty to keep you occupied for a while. Then enough pick up the mangas for the continuation.
Not dead, just on a sick leave. And there is plenty to keep you occupied for a while. Then enough pick up the mangas for the continuation.
I already did. I got sick of waiting for a new chapter after 2 years.

Can any of you recommend me a manga you love, please? I'm in need of a new one.

Hunter x Hunter :p
Monster is great. Amazing script. Good suspense that is held up. Everything just feels so right
Getbackers is pretty funny yet full of unique action.
Chac is gonna tell you Berserk

Chac is gonna tell you Berserk
I've read Monster already. 2-3 times, actually .
I'm a huge fan of Berserk, but the horribly inconsistent release schedule is really annoying.

I'll check out Getbackers then. And I might give HxH another try, as it's been years since I've read it. The knowledge of no guarantee of an ending is a huge turn off though.

Anyone else?

Yeah, hunter x hunter doesn't pick up until the 5th volume. I Started reading Samurai Deeper Kyo. It's pretty okay. Oh, and Rurouni Kenshin, that's assuming you haven't read it.

Where does everyone buy their anime btw. My bestbuy has pretty good prices. 20 or less a dvd. I need to pick up quite a few series and need a good place to buy them at nice prices. Imports or local, it doesn't matter. Any recommendations?

Usually Best Buy or Rightstuf for me, and looking to where deals are. I'll buy some from FYE once in a blue moon, but the fact that deals dont really work there, and they sell at MSRP...

I just queue it all up on Amazon. When a new volume of one of my series comes out they send it. I go to Right Stuf when they have their sales and to get some harder to find items.

Yeah, Gungrave was excellent. It's a lot like Berserk in a lot of ways... I won't go into it because that'd spoil the shit outta things, but yeah. Berserk's still definitely better, but you should definitely be buying both.

Oh, and for a Shonen Jump-style anime that's ridiculously good, Fighting Spirit. I dunno how many of you have watched that show, but... well, ya need to if you haven't. Amazingly, a 76 episode series about boxing never once got stale.

I just dvdpricesearch.com that shit. Though I try to pick stuff up at Best Buy if the price is reasonable (aka: below $20 and not much more than online.) I like buying a DVD at the store so I get it right away, but sometimes the price difference forces me to buy online.

And my DTS version of Akira got here today. I watched that movie like 5 1/2 years ago and I liked it, but I'm hoping I understand it more now and that I really, really like it. Well, it was like $10, so if I hate it, eh... I don't care.

Hmm... so lessee... I don't even know what to buy next. I'm waiting on Ergo Proxy until the thing's fully released... same thing with Black Lagoon (or at least, until the first series is finished.) I want another addictive series like Yu Yu Hakusho, Bleach, and Naruto that's out in R1.

Watch Hunter x Hunter then. On the anime reccomendations database, it is like the first one under Hagime No Ippo. I'll be watching that one too. I have a big list

Oh and Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni is now licensed and released as "When they Cry". Bad translation though. Great series
I'm currently reading Claymore. It's entertaining, though a bit cliche at times.
Read it this weekend .

linkpwns, I've already read Kenshin twice ;).

I go through a lot of manga.
Moar recommendations plz!

Yeah, I'm planning to pick up Higurashi when more volumes are out... does look good though.
Read it =/.
Damnit. I guess you can try Samurai Deeper Kyo if you liked Kenshin.
Azumanga is very random. Almost like japanese newspaper comics in compilation. Very funny.
I hear that Escaflowne Manga is deh goodness. I've seen the anime
I'm currently reading Claymore. It's entertaining, though a bit cliche at times.
So you like Bleach as long as the entire cast is replaced with what's essentially Rei Ayanami.

Oh yah, has anyone seen Tekkaman Blade? Not Tekkaman Blade II -- the original TV series. Thinkin' about picking it up, but I don't want it if it's mediocre.

FYE is good if you dont mind flipping games/movies. Their used prices are pretty good, and they do tons of sales that really add up the savings as well. Buy.com is pretty good too, most of their anime varies from $8-$12 shipped after GCO.

Heres a nice little addition to my 'memorabilia' collection. Its definately gotten me into a Blood+ mood. I hope they come out with BR's or at least DVD's sometime soon.

Its not gonna kill any Chiroptera, but the damn thing is sharp. Sliced my finger pretty good (not sure what i was expecting running my hand along the area where Saya usually cuts her hand on the sword)

I got all seven volumes of the Macross series recently, and I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. Really great show, and I found myself quite invested in the character's lives, specifically the love triangle between Hikaru, Misa, and Minmay. Anyone that hasn't seen it should really check it out. Classic anime.

I always tripped out on how the sword is bent at the hilt

Can you run blood down the line of the sword? :p

Was so good that even dubbed and cut to pieces it still managed a devoted fanbase. That 7 year wait for Disney to lose the rights was rough
Hmm.... so how's Dragonball GT.

Guys? Hey guys!?
It is like chopped balls on a fucking pubic hair salad.

Yeah, that bad.

Got the second LE of Haruhi volume 2 from Best Buy. One corner of the box was bent, but I didn't want to wait for a Rightstuf sale anymore.
