The "Kamille stole Char's kick!" anime thread

RightStuf has all Bandai DVDs for 40% off with a coupon code. Works for preorders as well.

That being said, I absolutely need you to tell me about the features of the bonus DVD of Haruhi Volume 2, Guile.

I'm not Guile, but the bonus DVDs that are packed with the remaining LE versions of the series contain the episodes as they aired in original broadcast order, with Japanese audio and English subtitles only.

Thanks Kirin. I forgot to answer earlier.

I am going to get Jubei-Chan and pre-order the last Haruhi volumes from Rightstuf.

Been trying to catch up on my Bleach watching, and I'm up to 126 right now, and it's at that typical "I need more powah!" stage where nothing's really happening. :whistle2:( I really enjoyed the fights against the Arrancar, especially the bald dude's fight.

I'd recommending skippg up to episode 136 when you hit the fillers (Starts when Rangiku meets a kid I believe, might be earlier...), they're pretty boring. Eps. 136 up til' now has involved the arrancar/espada

One more episode of Chrono Crusade, and then it's on to the first volume of Ergo Proxy.

134-135 were tolerable, and the kendo club filler episode was actually entertaining, but that's all.

And watch Claymore. Excellent series, and I'm sad that it ends in 4 episodes. :( I'm contemplating buying the manga.

How is .Hack//Roots?

Also, with Tenjho Tenge, did they ever make anything past the two OVA's "ultimate fight"? I enjoyed watching that anime, especially with the animation quality and some beatdowns :boxing:

I always wanted to know what happened in the preliminary rounds and how's it's settled between funky hair and steroid man.

Ehh, I'll watch them anyways. I tend to get hooked on it and watch several episodes in a row, so it won't be hard to just blow through it all in a few hours.

I actually just skimmed through those episodes, so they got a total viewing time of 5 minutes from me out of about 5-6 episodes (?)

The latest episode ends on a kick ass note. I can't wait for next week :bomb:

I'm reading that manga currently. I enjoy it.

I just finished Fighting Spirit. Really good series. I immediately ordered the TV movie as soon as I was done.

I checked out the dub of Haruhi Suzumiya on Youtube to see if it was any good or not. Has anyone else noticed the dubs have slightly more footage then the Japanese version? It's usually just a few seconds here and there but if you watch Koizumi's introduction there's a new scene after Haruhi tells him what the SOS Brigade is about.

BTW the dub is pretty good. Haruhi's voice took a while to get use to but it does fit her well. Same with the rest of the cast except for Tsuruya (I hate the valley girl accent and no nyoros). I think I'll buy the DVDs next month when I get more money.

Not sure if it's the case with this show, but with a lot of shows more footage is added to the DVD release in Japan. Usually the licensed version in the US is the Japanese DVD version.

The dub is great.

While I much prefere dubs, I did try one the other day that seemed like it was half-assed at least in the first episode. It was Green Green.

I am not a stickler for "accurate" translations because I don't speak the original language, but I don't see how the hell dubs in this day and age could allow incorrect pronounciations of Japanese names. I know that is a very minor issue, but it's like when Daisuke Matsuzaka came to the Red Sox and all the announcers said Die-soo-kay for the first week. Damn that irritated me.

Got through reading the latest chapter of the Bleach Manga, I honestly don't see this going anywhere good for Ichigo and his group :/
Everyone's in a really one-sided fight, but it's pretty interesting :D
I'm not Guile, but the bonus DVDs that are packed with the remaining LE versions of the series contain the episodes as they aired in original broadcast order, with Japanese audio and English subtitles only.
Actually, I was wondering if the Japanese audio was in any way surround (Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS, and not just PLII Encoded Stereo like the standard disc) and if the subtitles were different, i.e. better.

Basically, without those features, I'll probably stick with the standard releases.

Finally got around to watching Black Lagoon, and while I've only finished the first season thus far, I must say...

What an over-hyped, soulless, masturbatory piece of crap. It's so spectacularly average in every department but its animation (which is surprisingly above average on a consistent basis), I can't fathom why people would tune in week after week for this. It's like the second coming of Trigun or something. No, wait, that's really unfair to Black Lagoon... it's still far better than Trigun.

Rant over.

I can only speak for myself, but one of the main reasons I like the show is because of the confrontations between Revy and Rock. I normally don't gravitate to conflict, but I just enjoy seeing those two with their wildly different backgrounds trying to understand each other. The action is top notch too. Plus, sometimes I enjoy a show you can just sit at watch without having intellectualize everything it tried to show you. Don't get me wrong, I love my Big O (even more than Black Lagoon), but Black Lagoon is a good way for me to unwind after a hard day of work.

That being said, I haven't seen the last third of Black Lagoon as I am waiting for the DVD to come out.

Aside from one scene with the two of them (where Rock finally asserts himself) which I thought was very well done and LONG overdue, the rest of their interactions together have been - much like the rest of the show - terribly clichéd, in my opinion. Yes, we get it - she's a terrible, unlikeable bitch who's never had a kind thing to say in her life. Move on already! Yawn.

Honestly, it's a good brain dead show for me. It has nice action scenes, and I don't have to think. On top of that none of the characters annoy me, and for the most part are fairly likeable. It's definitely not a great show, but I enjoy it.

And yes, Trigun blows.

Fun fact: Trying to get tickets to the new Evangelion movie is impossible. Apparently the theaters in Sannomiya (Kobe) and Osaka were sold out the minute they opened both yesterday and today for every single showtime. So much for that plan this weekend...

Please let those movies be good...

ADV is releasing yet another Evangelion boxset (i think its the Platinum release w/ extras intact & a tin; but contents have yet to be determined), im sure they'd be willing to snatch the rebuild movie(s) as soon as they can.
And I'm sure I'll be buying it again.
No offense, but I really hope they soak people like you $500 for it. Anyone obsessively buying minor upgrade versions of things deserves to be taken advantage of mercilessly.

I think they should do one more re-master for Blu-Ray and leave it at that. I may be buying the new Gantz & Abenobashi re-releases depending on what they are coming with (all we know now is theyre in a tin...)

If you plan on playing the GU games, then watching Roots is a must. Its basically just all the events leading up to the game. It's not quite as good as Sign, but it's on par as far as the visual & audio quality go.

I'm reading The Count of Monte Cristo and it's the best fuckin' book I've ever read in my life... so I want to watch more than the first DVD of Gankutsuou. Does Rightstuf put the entire series on sale during the massive Geneon sales they occasionally do? I remember that I picked up the first disc as a result of the sale last October, but I don't recall if anything past that was cheap.

Nah, both sales have only had the first volume. If you're desperate, like I was, all the episodes are up the 360 marketplace.

Now, do I order more Ergo Proxy... that first volume was intriguing.
Can anyone vouch for .Hack//Roots? How good is that series?
Fairly average - if you thought SIGN had a lot of talking, you haven't seen anything yet. Only this time, it's even more pointless (and I liked SIGN). And as for what Bezerker said about the audio quality, I just can't let that one slide - in no way does ROOTS even come close to matching the musical genius of Yuki Kajiura's score for SIGN.

I'd give ROOTS a B/B-.

Naw, if I'm gonna spend money, it's most definitely not going to the XBL marketplace to buy anime. I'll just pick up the box like everyone else. It'll hurt the wallet, but I'm pretty sure that Gank's going to be good.

And Ergo Proxy is supposed to get really damn good.

I love what Gankutsuou does with the originl story. I also love how the book has some great moments and fleshes out some relationships and events beyond the scope of the anime. They're both well worth your time, and congratulations for having good taste.

And Ergo Proxy gets more average as it goes on, in my opinion.

Meh, a lot of talking kills any series for me unless it's a dramatic story.

For example, I liked Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien, which had a lot of talking, but duh, it's a drama.
I hated Dragonball Z when they had a lot of talking since it's a show geared towards action.

Since that's my take on anime, would I be able to enjoy .Hack//Roots?

Since it's not a very dramatic story (Kimi ga Nozomu Eien does indeed kick all kinds of ass), no, I don't think you'd enjoy it. The story really meanders and moves along at a snail's pace. By the end of the series, you'll be left wondering how they managed to fill 26 episodes at all, given that barely anything happened.

I think I'm gonna rewatch Paranoia Agent. I think I was too young to properly understand/appreciate it when I first watched it (I was 13-14, IIRC).

You know, maybe I should watch that show. It's supposed to be really good, right? I got the series at the Geneon sale last year, but I never watched them and don't have any real plans to.

Yeah, when I watched the first disc of Gankutsuou, I wasn't sure how it was related to the book. When I hit page 280 or something though, I saw the names Franz and Albert pop up and I was like "oh shit," cause I know.
Who's the Reel Big Fish-wannabe band that sings the ending theme of Bleach in the 120's episodes?
Oh jeez, I hated that ED.

It's the Ore Ska Band, and they also did an ending for Naruto (Which I also hated). I guess I'm just not a fan of that genre of music

Paranoia Agent is a trip, I should watch the whole series just to understand wtf is going on, since I only caught a couple episodes.

I think I'll read it once I'm done with the six other books I'm reading (concurrently, no less, meaning I'm going through them a lot slower than I would have been had I read them one by one =/).

Chacrana, if you're a fan of Satoshi Kon, then you should definitely watch Paranoia Agent.

Yeah, I really don't read much... I mean, I'm smart and all, but I have very little interest in books, but Monte Cristo has been different. In an inevitably failed attempt to relate the book to anime, I would argue that this book's epic length (~1300 pages) feels sorta like a Shonen Jump anime, but without any filler. Same addictive quality to it and everything.

I rather like it, maybe because I'm a fan of RBF. It's at least better than some of the generic metal they've used for opening themes before.

Heh, I'm the other way around, I don't like that song but love Ichirin No Hana by High and Mighty Color. Then again, I also like the Ending Song "Hanabi"

In regards to The Count Of Monte Cristo, I LOVED that story, well I haven't read that particular 1300+ page one, but I did read a condensed version that was a couple hundred pages awhile ago, a LONG while ago
Epic story of tragedy and exacting revenge, a lot better than Zorro ;)
