The "Kamille stole Char's kick!" anime thread

The new Eva film did not disappoint! The first two thirds or so are virtually shot-for-shot the same as episodes 1 through 4 (almost entirely the same script as well). A few scene rearrangements were made, like making Shinji's fight with Sachiel one cohesive battle, and some very short minor scenes were both added and removed from the original.

The real awesomeness kicked in for the last third of the movie, during "Operation Yashima" - the mission to take out Ramiel, the big diamond-shaped one. Ramiel was way more interesting this time around, as he could morph into all sorts of awesome shapes in reaction to being attacked (this was done with some really awesome CG work). In addition, there were a ton of new scenes thrown in.

And then the last scene...
It cut to what appears to be the moon, with Kaworu waking up (as seen briefly in the trailer). Lilith is also present. Kaworu expresses his eagerness to meet Shinji, and then the film ends.

Lilith's presence was particularly interesting, since before going on Operation Yashima, Misato brought Shinji to Terminal Dogma and showed him what she called Lilith. This Lilith looked very similar to what we had seen in the TV series, but with a yellow mask and only two deep, black eyes (similar to Rei-Lilith from End of Eva). The Lilith on the moon appeared as we know her from the TV series. Very interesting...

Oh, and either my eyes deceived me, or Ramiel was designated the 6th Angel (he's the 5th in the TV series). Perhaps this extra Lilith accounts for the added number? I dunno!

Oh right, and after the credits rolled (with Utada Hikaru's awesome new single "Beautiful World" playing), there was a preview for the next movie...
Looks as if they're covering up to the Bardiel (Unit 03) fight - that's a lot of ground to cover! They show a few other Eva units (Unit 06, no longer a mass-produced white Eva, has a crazy spikey head), Asuka, and a new girl with odd blue/green-tinted glasses at the end. Hrm...

Sounds pretty cool, what's the name of the Evangelion movie?

I wonder how long it'll take before we can get a crack at it over here on the US, I doubt we'd get it in theatres, maybe a select few, but I'd look foward to the DVD release. Probably six months? I think that's how long it took the FMA Movie to come stateside.
 
Eh, I have no interest in seeing the EVA movies hit theaters in the US. I'd rather just buy them and watch them on my setup instead.

Seriously, ever since I got my sound shit, I've been disappointed by the sound in every theater I've been to.

Of interest, they've changed the katakana spelling of "Evangelion" now. They use the very uncommon "ye" and "wo" characters... still not sure why this is, other than to make it stand out.

Why not? Anime movies in theaters are virtually empty. I was like one of two, maybe three people who were in the theater when I saw Howl's Moving Castle.

I saw Howl's Moving Castle at my local theater and it was nearly full. It seemed to be the kids movie of the weekend. I shouldn't have been surprised that a mom and her kid was sitting nearby only to start making a fuss about halfway through the movie.

As for me, I have been getting the LE versions of all Haruhi volumes. Nothing wrong with normal, but I like having all the extra stuff. Are you ordering them from Amazon or Rightstuf?

I've been looking for a deal on Negima, so this might help, but i'd rather find a box set instead of paying 20 dollars a volume.

Really? $20 for Beck volumes is par for the course. BB has them for the same price. I could see it if it was the awesome artbox, but not for $20, except that it's an awesome regardless.

Thanks. I only torrent the ones which haven't come out here yet and the ones I keep are the ones I wait until the R1 box sets are completed.

Darker Than Black

It's a bit hard to describe. Some weird anomaly happens over tokyo called the Hell's Gate and certain people develop special abilities. Stars start disappearing and are replaced by fake stars representing the people w/ powers. These people however lose their ability to empathize or display emotion. These people, called contractors, are used by various governments in espionage.

Dennou Coil

It has a Miyazaki feel to it. Sometime in the near future, someone invents glasses that wrap around the eyes so the field of vision is completely covered. With these glasses, anyone can see holographic displays so they can IM, email, program, talk on the phone (by putting your thumb near your ear and your pinky near your mouth) and just about anything else. It's basically a virtual world overlaid on the real world.

The story is about a bunch of 2ndary school kids (probably between 10-13 yrs old) and their search for metabugs. Metabugs are little glitches in this virtual world that these kids can trade in to computer security companies for money. They, then in turn, use this money (in the form of credits) to buy stuff like virtual laser beams which they can use to delete each others' info or virtual pets.

Nodame Cantible

This is about a clean-cut and sophisticated guy named Chiaki who is the top student at a prestigious music academy in Japan. He was traumatized as child so he couldn't go overseas to London or Paris to continue his studies. He meets a slobby girl named Nodame who is a piano genius; she can play a piece simply by ear and hates reading notes. There's a lot of classical music but there's also a lot of comedy to keep it from being dry. I don't know if you're familiar w/ Beck or Honey & Clover but it's pretty much a combo of those two.

The medallion activates the robot head and uses it to defeat the giant robot w/ Kamina and Yoko's help. Later on, they discover that the robot head can merge w/ other robot bodies to form even stronger robots.

Those all seem interesting, with the exception of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, but I did love Dead Leaves...
I'll definitely be checking those out.

My description seriously undersells Lagann. That's only the 1st two eps. It picks up quite a bit and hardly ever comes down. It also jumps forward in time. As Simon is about 15 yrs old when the series starts and about 2/3 of the way (17 or so eps.), they time jump to when he's a bit older at 18 or so.
 
Just got done watching Death Note. I gotta say, the OP/ED for the 2nd half of the series was really good. Quite a change from the catchy j-pop OP/ED of the 1st half.

I couldnt help but notice slight homosexual overtones between Light & L (L massaging/drying Light's feet, WTF?!?!). Not to mention that travesty of an ending.

Aww, he can die happy because his boyfriend is watching over him. Blegh.

As pathetic as Light seemed at the end of the manga, at least he died with some integrity, that whole L looking over him really ruined it. Also in the manga they show what happened afterwards, including Misa leading the Kira cult.

Seems like two weeks ago they released a 90 minute recap with bonus footage, I hope it at least shows some of what happens after the end of the anime.
 
Oh yeah, that bit of news has been floating around for a little while. I don't think it really means anything like the companies are merging or anything like that... it's like when Geneon distributed Bandai's stuff way back in the day.

Apparently it was a mistake since the price is more than double that now.

I ended up ordering the standard Haruhi volumes from Rightstuf. It was roughly a $40 difference, and I'm cheap as crap.

I just got done watching Gilgamesh. Really good series, the art seems kinda off at the begining, but you get used to it. The ending was a bit confusing, and a bit pointless considering certain aspects.

The Gilgamesh can be revived, so whats the point in the Orga killing themselves to take Gilgamesh with them. The ending scene with Kiyoko & Tear was a bit confusing as well.

I'm still in a bit of a dark mood, so I think i'm finally gonna watch Boogiepop Phantom.

Can I just say I think the scene at the end of the latest episode of Bleach is probably one of my favorite scenes in the entire manga/anime series?
It's just so sad and in a way, perfect. I love that the anime got it down pretty much perfect. That scene single-handedly is why Orihime is one of my favorite characters in the series.

Just watched the whole episode, I really liked it. They practically went back to the roots of Bleach, which is why I started watching it in the first place!!!
 
Paprika has officially been announced on DVD, UMD, and Blu-Ray (yay!!!). $38.95 SRP on the BR version, so it'll probably sell for $25-$30 in stores. Release date is November 27th. Ive read on some sites that it is sub only while on other i've read it has an english dub. The french version had an english dub with it, so i cant see why they couldnt just bring that over to the US. I prefer subs over dubs and am just happy that i dont have to spend the $45 to import it ^_^.

I'm hoping that if Paprika & Tekkon Kinkreet (9/25 people!) do well enough, Sony will announce their other anime titles for Blu-Ray.
