The Official E-Bay Scalping Thread
And, to reiterate, I hope this weekend is a goddamned bust for you.

Call Merrill Lynch instead. This console resellin's for the birds.
LMAO...even if you sell the 60GB console for a net profit of $100 (which is extremely low), and it took you two weeks, you have an return of 16.67%. Annualized that is a whopping 5403.22%. I would love to have Merrill Lynch provide me with that annualized return :applause:

Well, the funds are being transferred to my bank account but it's going to take 3-4 days. I promised to ship the PS3 overnight so I have to send it out today (if I can - it's Thanksgiving) or first thing tomorrow. I'm a little nervous to part with it but I have been documenting communications (nothing from her yet other than notification of payment) and I will be taking lots of pictures packing it up and sending it out.

You gonna sell a PS3 every day? Of course not, so why make that comparison?

Who the F are you?
A wrestling fan, ugh.

Oh well, I sold mine already, bought an extra PS3, Wii, games, and new clothes & shoes. Not to mention paying off my credit card bills.
I need a new HDD this weekend as well. I've got money to burn.

One of the funnier things I've read all day.

Ok. I need a little honest advice. I have purchased 5 PS3 60GB's off of Ebay at $1000 each. Originally I was thinking that was a good deal and could resell them for $1500. Now I am seeing prices dip below $1000 and just witnessed a guy lose money on a Gamestop Bundle for a 20GB.

What are the odds prices will go back up. I have calculated Ebay and Paypal fees to be around $100 max so that means I need to sell them for $1100 each to break even.
One of the funnier things I've read all day.
Haha, that guy is an idiot. He'll pay twice the shipping, and lose out on ebay fees.

What did your PS3 sell for, $3,000?
What did your PS3 sell for, $3,000?
I wish. But I did sell it early and got about 3 times what I paid for it, so I'm grateful for that.
What a burden reliever, I just lost my first job (Tower Records out of business) and I just started my new one, so it's tiding me over.

Yes, that's *all* I am.

I'm the dude that thinks you're a pitiful wreck for trying to make money reselling a single fucking console. I'm the dude who laughs at the amount of time you waited, the pithy amount of money you made, and the "luxurious" sorts of things you do as a result of one sale. If selling a PS3 is a moneymaking motherfucking prospect to you, then I pity you and the hamburgers you make from 9-5.

Seriously, when the stock market is available, why waste your time on such nonsense?

I'll show you my portfolio if you show me yours?

Last I checked doubling your money in the stock market was harder than doubling your money reselling a PS3. In fact if you want a stock tip - short the stocks that I buy because they're guaranteed to go down.

Why waste your time caring so much about selling a PS3 to make some profit? Why do you even care at all?

I preordered two, and sold both for triple what I paid for them. Would you like to show me an easier way to make $2000 that doesn't involve selling drugs?

Before you pity my pathetic soul, I'm a 19 year old college student making $10 an hour working on campus. I wouldn't consider it to be too far away from flipping hamburgers, but then again... I can't really get a job as a business executive at this point in my life. So to me, and a lot of other people my age, this seems like a worthy investment.

I have tried not to get on anyone's nerves around here with my PS3-peddlin' ways, as well as many of the people who are posting in this thread. I'm saying that because I can see how you could be annoyed with some of the typical PS3 campers, especially ones that come to CHEAP-ASS GAMER to sell their PS3s for 2 grand. But to be this outraged over the concept of selling PS3s is ridiculous.

Just to put things in perspective... I spent about 5 hours total buying and selling these PS3s. How much time have you wasted watching big, sweaty guys rolling around pretending to hurt each other? And how much time have you wasted talking to other wrestling fans about which wrestler could fake-hurt the other wrestlers more?

I've explained the logic behind selling PS3s. Explain the logic behind watching wrestling. Or just pity my pathetic soul; I don't really care.

i just wanted you to know...i hate you...and your damn ON-CAMPUS-$10-SALARY....jerk...i work on campus at my college and get paid a little more than HALF OF THAT! AND I REALLY NEED TO SELL MY FRIKIN PS3!!!!!

so here's a question,

is it customary to actually include the receipt with a console if u sell it on ebay??

I understand that ebay would want a receipt shown in attempt to make sure you're not selling something stolen,

but do people expect to receive it as well??

let's say you buy a console with a credit card and include the receipt,

will the recipient have any access or important information to your card??

Nah I think the receipt is just so you can prove you legitimately purchased it. You don't have to send it with the PS3. Since PS3 is so rare, they probably don't want someone who bought a PS3 on eBay to flip that same PS3 back onto eBay so they want photos that you purchased it legit. Furthermore, if a new system is a defect and the buyer wants to exchange the system, they can just have Sony fix it under its warranty so a receipt isn't needed.

That's a fair response. Even I originally said that I'd be a fool to not sell one for $2000 if I could have gotten one on launch day.

My irritation, of course, stems from those who are (1) trying to resell theirs here at those prices and (2) trying to rekindle the flame of last Friday's price frenzy. That's just not gonna happen again.

doesn't look like all the ps3's on ebay r getting very many bids...booooooo...still wondering when the best time to sell it would be...maybe ill just keep watching and HOPE that the prices go up

I'm shipping out my PS3 today! I'm going to hit a UPS place and hopefully they can pack it with the foam peanuts inside a bigger box.

So I reluctantly sold my PS3 for $950 cash... oh well at least I made something off of it :\

And no PayPal/shipping fees. No worries about chargebacks.. I guess it's not that bad.

well im just gonna post my auction for 3 days...and post it at a BIN of $1500...hopefully it sells :( i also put it on craigslist so hopefully it sells on there...cuz then i won't have to pay any ebay fees!

Unless your PS3 includes a bundle of games, it is not selling for $1500. Even $1200 is pushing it. If you do a search for completed listings, they range from $1000 - $1200.
well im just gonna post my auction for 3 days...and post it at a BIN of $1500...hopefully it sells :( i also put it on craigslist so hopefully it sells on there...cuz then i won't have to pay any ebay fees!
That BIN is too high. I would put it at $900 BIN but make them pay for all the shipping costs. Minus all the fees / expenses, you're looking at roughly $200 profit. It's better than posting it and not being able to sell it.

Make a few dollars and put this behind you. You have to ask yourself how much longer you want to drag this out.

Wow. UPS for Saturday next-day delivery was $150 with packing, insurance, DC and signature required. Looks like I'm only making $500 instead of the $600 I thought because I charged $50 shipping. Still a nice haul though.

Goddamn that is a lot. Is UPS more dependable? I think USPS tops out at $60 with everything fully loaded (next-day, insurance, delivery and sig confirmation) so I was going to go with them for my PS3 sale.

Saturday service for UPS is expensive. It's like an extra $60-80.

The benefit to UPS? Actual working tracking numbers. USPS ones are a joke.

Oh man oh man oh man! I just got bailed out by a BIN bidder on my auction. It had no bids (but an escalating number of views) at about $950 with 3 minutes left. I'm getting ready to have to relist it, then all of a sudden someone swoops in and bites on my $1150 BIN. fucking Sweet! I know that's not near what some of you got, but it's pretty good right now. Most regular auctions are ending for less than $1000 today.

The first time I listed it I had the 1 day ending last Saturday and I barely even got any looks because there were so many listed. Now, it appears there are fewer listed but the prices have come down to reasonable levels. Based on what I saw out there on BF (ie, a few Wii's available but no PS3s at any of the major stores I went to - I wasn't looking for another but was just curious and none of the stores even had them at opening) I don't think someone paying $1200 shipped for a PS3 is too unreasonable. Hopefully at these prices ($900-$1200) there aren't alot of scammers and non-payers out there, as for many people the trouble of not dealing with waiting around at stores for the slim chance of getting one is worth the extra money.

Once I ship it later today I'll figure out my total profit (after all fees/shipping/etc). It looks like it will be nearly enough for my very own PS3 once they are easy to obtain and IF they fix the damn lack of 1080i upscaling. (If they don't fix that or if it is a slow software solution, then I guess it will pay for my future 360 purchase).

Basically, when I went in to the whole thing (with my EB preorder way back when) I was hoping to make enough to cover most of my own PS3 purchase and, so far, that is what's happening. The goofball inflated prices of last Friday got everyone all giddy - but knowing how many people were buying these to sell, and just an educated guess on how many people in this country were actually willing to pay $2000+ for such a thing, it was unrealistic to expect that to last.

CONGRATS MAN! maybe i should change my BIN to a much more reasonable price :(

Anyone get a chargeback yet?

I still haven't got my return receipt in the mail. Needs to get here so I'll feel better. And the guy hasn't left Feedback yet, and also appears to have purchased several PS3s.

Well, of course I'm not in the clear as the guy has yet to received it and I have to wait out any potential chargeback period (what, 3 months?). But as of right now, I'm looking at about $450 profit. That includes the ebay fees (including all the costs of the one that didn't sell last weekend), PayPal fees, and box + shipping. That is off the MSRP of $600. Since I bought it with trade credit obtained via the trade 3/$10 extra deal and transferred a bunch of credit from GR to EB that way, my actual cost for the PS3 in cash terms was about $210. So my profit from the original cost was over $800. Not too bad.

I'm really glad I got the thing out of here and now just need to relax and deal with any possible issues as they arise.

The guy has low feedback and has bought nothing off ebay in over a year until this auction. However, he had a confirmed address and I sent it USPS with signature confirmation and $1200 of insurance. So I should be set up OK for any problems.

For what it's worth, it weighed $18 lbs (!) in a brand new box that I got at the UPS store for $6. Shipping, including the box purchase, came up to $58.50. I had charged $45 for shipping, so tha's not too bad, though it was more than I expected. The 15x15x20 box at the UPS place worked well, though I cut a couple inches off the height as I've had problems before with anything being over 84" in girth + height being charged a "balloon" charge for USPS priority mail. (This box, of course, comes up to 85 inches!) Now, this was so heavy that it probably wouldn't have had that problem (I think they only charge that on lighter items that are bulky - they basically charge you the 15 lb rate or so -whatever it was it added $12 to a shipment I made once).

Basically, though, I'm just glad to be done with it. It seems like it has been an endless saga but then I just realized today is Friday and I only just got the thing a week ago ;).

3 months ona chargeback? I'm not holding onto the cash for that long. It seems the guy was buying cheaper Ps3s to sell them at a higher price, so I'm a little worried now that the market has bottomed out (well, for now).

Man, I just watched a bunch of auctions end under $1000. Does anyone think the price will go up before Christmas? I bet the number of systems up stays pretty high for the rest of the Holidays.

Well, I'm just going off general credit card charge dispute rules - I think that is 90 days. PayPal-specific disputes might have a shorter time. I already pulled out most of my money from PayPal just in case - and I usually just keep it there since the interest rate is better than any other short-term investment.

I'm just saying you can't be completely in the clear until 90+ days.

My bank transfer went through! There is nothing in my PayPal account now so there will be no chargeback - or at least they won't be getting the money back. The PS3 is on its way and I consider this a done deal. Whew!

My second listing ended today. I had gone down from 1800 on the first listing to 1200 on the second. Still no dice.

I'm getting closer and closer to keeping this thing. I'm going to now try and sell locally in the ad papers here and see what happens.

Yes there are some systems $300-$400 over retail. Nevertheless, those asswipe scalpers are barely making a profit now. The longer this gets drawn out, the less they will make :applause:

Positive feedback received! The idiot buyer did say shipping was slow even though I spent $150 to have it sent via UPS next day with Saturday delivery. They paid with an eCheck, it cleared Wednesday night, Thursday was Thanksgiving and I sent it out Friday morning. WTF else was I supposed to do?

I'm thinking of just returning mine...dealing with the E-bay fees, shipping, and all that nonsense is almost not worth the few hundred dollars of profit at this point.

I've had this problem before - some buyers aren't aware that they are making an "echeck" payment that requires clearance. One time a guy swore up and down he paid with a credit card when that happened. That may be true - perhaps they make it an "echeck" when the card isn't verified or something. Suffice it to say that buyers aren't always aware that there can be a clearance period for PayPal payments. Thus to him he paid, when, last Sunday or Monday? So he probably thinks you held on to it for 4 days before mailing. Whenever I get an echeck payment I make sure they know I need to wait for clearance.

What is really annoying is that PayPal never lets you know the source of the payment (PayPal balance, credit, checking, etc). It would be nice to know in terms of chargebacks, etc.

This jackass is going to seriously fuck with me if the prices are tanking like this. I cannot believe this fuckers problem i hope hes having a fucking great time. This is a lot of fucking BS, this lazy fuck is just too lazy to actually send me my systems. Looks like i may lose money on this, or be forced to keep em.

would it be worth it to wait until before christmas? Do you think prices will go up?

I was "paid" on Saturday night. I tried my best to keep her informed though - I wrote her an email when she won thanking her and saying I'd ship when payment was received. I wrote another when payment was made telling her I'd ship as soon as the eCheck cleared. I wrote another as soon as the check cleared Wednesday night explaining that I probably couldn't ship until Friday morning because of the holiday. Finally, I wrote her one on Friday with all of the shipping information when I sent it out. She didn't write a single one acknowledging anything. Maybe I should say "payment was slow" in her feedback. What a moron.
