Sept Update: Computer glitch is slowing markdowns - some games are marked up instead of marked down. Example: Feel the Magic should be tagged at $9, sept drop should make it $3, glitch is having it ring up $15. Glitch appears to be YMMV or just on certain games. Some games havent dropped at all. Glitch is on the corporate level - no info on when it will be fixed.

FAQ

Q: Why was this thread created?
A: Because there are multiple threads floating around, and its useful to consolidate. THis one will have the OP constantly updates so you don't have to go digging.

Q: Are these prices YMMV?
A: No, they shouldn't be. I currently have 10 K-Marts in my shopping radius, and they've all been consistent. At one time it was thought that they were YMMV, but I'm pretty sure it was instead employee incompetence at keeping prices updated.

EDIT: Some people are reporting prices that are YMMV, but I am hesitant to mark the deal as such. If you get a different price, it seems to be the exception to the rule, not a true YMMV where it is hit or miss. I'd say these prices are 90% accurate.

Q: An employee said the price was higher than what's on the list.
A: Get the game scanned at the register.

Q: The employee got that price gun and said it was higher than what's on the list.
A: GET THE GAME SCANNED AT THE REGISTER. The gun is incorrect sometimes.

Q: Can I use the price checker thingies?
A: YES! Brilliant idea! They will give you an accurate price. Also, if you have the problem of useless employees not opening the cases for you, you can print off the UPC codes and check them at the price checker.

Q: How can I help?
A: Multiple ways:
- Get a job at K-Mart so we have an inside man
- Post the prices of the games you get
- Write down the prices of games you do not get, then post those too

Q: When are items marked down?
A: Once a month, near the middle of the month.

Q: Does this have anything to do with the weekend 50% off sales K-Mart usually runs?
A: No. While some of these games used to be on the list, this is completely seperate. None of these games are on the 50% list anymore and will not be reduced during these sales.

Q: What if I bought a game at a higher price and it gets reduced? Can I get a price adjustment or a return/rebuy?
A: Chances are VERY SLIM. K-Mart does not do price adjustments on clearance items. A return/rebuy might be possible, but most Kmarts do not employee people with the mental capacity to fully understand this concept.

Q:Can I price check the games without getting into the cases?
A: Yes, thanks to this UPC document from TimTucker. You can scan these at self scanners located in most K-Marts, but note that sometimes prices may not be accurate
http://www.timtucker.com/games/kmart_upcs.doc

Q: What if the price is higher than what's on the list?
A: Then your store has not done markdowns left. Ask them if they have any pending PCLs and perhaps they can do it for you, or just wait it out. Also, you could try a return/rebuy if you have another local store that did the drops. Use the UPC sheet to check this

Q: What if a price doesn't come up? It says "Check shelf tag for pricing".
A: This means that the game was at 90% off, and for some reason it was scheduled to be marked down further. If you have a cool employee, you can get games for cheap. If you have a game with outdated tags, you could be in for a hassle. This is similiar when Target marks things down for salvage.

Q: Are these markdowns YMMV?
A: NO. These are universal nationwide prices. If you arent getting them, its your stores problem and doesnt indicate a larger problem as a whole.

Q: How are things marked down?
A: AFAIK, it can be done manually via gun, or it can be done en masse at the register. If you want further details, we are currently looking for a CAG to take one for the team and get a job at K-Mart to infiltrate and learn their secret methods.

Q: What games will drop further?
A: As a GENERAL RULE, games at 1.00, 1.50, 2.00, 3.00, 4.00 are at 90% off AND WILL NOT DROP FURTHER. Games ending in .99 will drop 2 bucks at a time in random intervals.

Q: What do I do with all these games?
A: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95481

I have a feeling that the OP is somewhat out of date at this point... io or anyone else have a list handy of games I might want to look for to max out some EB trades? Gonna head out to one or two K-Marts tomorrow.

went to two Mesa, AZ stores and got F-Zero GX (GC) for $5. Didn't see much else. A bunch of e-reader cards were marked down to $.50, but no ereaders. Spotted some metroid zero missions, unmarked. Kim Possible 2 for the GBA, unmarked. maybe a couple more I missed but it was pretty slim pickings.

I've gotta check this now that I'm hunting for GC games and stuff. I might go out tomorrow or Friday, I'm looking for these in particular:

:gc:
Mario Party 4/Wavebird bundle
Metroid Prime/Wavebird bundle
Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes
Soul Calibur 2

:ds:
Zoo Keeper

If anybody has those and wants other stuff from the sale send me a PM and I'll check while I'm there. If you want anything from my list then PM me too.

I don't have a lot of extra cash right now, so I plan on getting a few doubles for ebay to make up for the cost, but I'm more than willing to sell some for cost+shipping on here after that.
Pretty sure everything is up to date. If I missed anything let me know

Ping Pals $6
Sprung $6
Silent Hill 2 (Xbox) $15
I have a feeling that the OP is somewhat out of date at this point... io or anyone else have a list handy of games I might want to look for to max out some EB trades? Gonna head out to one or two K-Marts tomorrow.
Botticus, just about any of the $2 games are good for EB trade-in. The only one I passed on was Rumble Roses, so I don't know what that gets (figured that would be excluded as a wrestling title). In particular, look for Mega Man Anniversary, Outlaw Golf 2, and MAT 2. Even Driver 3 got me $4.40 though (before $2.50 bonus). You can't go wrong at $2, as even the worst valued game (say, like Powerdrome at 10 cents) will net you at least some profit with the $2.50 bonus.

But Slacker is right, the OP is just fine. That's what I printed to take with me to Kmart the other day. People are always finding new things though. In particular, if you DO find one of the $2 or $5 games but it is still yellow-tagged $8 or $12 or $17, then look for others with the same tags :D.

While the trade-in fodder is nice, and I was able to get a FFX for $5 (sold mine during the 10 cent ebay listing day and was about to pick one up for $20 at GR), my best purchase so far was the Logitech wireless PS2 controller for $12. That is a VERY nice device. Being used to Wavebirds, the rumble in a wireless controller was a shock to me :D.

Got a call from my dad today, and he was at the K-Mart in Kokomo. I had e-mailed him a list of the clearance games in case there was anything on there he or anyone else in the family might be interested in. I had also marked the handful of games that I was interested in and wrote several paragraphs explaining how the K-Mart clearance works.

So anyway, he calls me to tell me that he had found several games on my list and starts naming off games that I have no interest in. He thought I wanted every single game on the clearance list and had had the poor K-Mart employee empty out the case and price check games for 30 minutes when they didn't have one game I wanted. He had to put all the game back and he sounded pretty mad on the phone, like it was my fault he can't read an e-mail...heh. I apologized and took the blame.

I learned two things from this:

1. Old people can't follow directions, even when you explain clearly in an e-mail in detail what games you want.
2. I shouldn't have bought my parents cell phones and put them on my plan so they can call me for free whenever they want.

Oh, and I guess a third thing which is relevant to CAGers in Indiana. The Kokomo, Indiana K-Mart has a few clearance games but nothing interesting. No PSOne combos or anything.
They also had a ton of sharktale for gba and gcn but both rang up for 19.99 when i scanned the barcode at the scanner.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, sometimes the barcode scanning at the self price check scanners doesn't work right. Though, your Kmart may have been one of the ones that was YMMV on the prices from the clearance list.

If you have the time(and patience, since Kmart employees rarely want to drag stuff from the case without alot of hassle), go back and price check those at the register.

If they offer to do a price check via price GUN, say "I'd like them price checked at the register, thanks.", as even the price guns are off sometimes.
are you sure prices are YMMV?
I just picked up Midway Arcade Treasures 2 (ps2) for $1 not $2
Sometimes the prices vary across platforms, although I've only seen that as clearance/non-clearance. I verified MAH2 for GC/XB/GBA at 4 KMarts in 2 states and it was always $2. I didn't have the PS2 version on my UPC sheet. More likely though a price drop occured, so it may be time to recheck things.

Damn, if there was another price drop I hope I can fucking find something I want tomorrrow...

Anyway, I need to pick up some cheap games to trade in for $10 bonus at GS for B2G1F, which I've never done before, so forgive me for being dumb, but they don't give a shit what 4 games you trade in unless they're sports titles right? And I assume no doubles and take off the shrinkwrap correct?

As a note on SharkTale GBA, I think that it may have gone down to $2 at one point and then back up to $19.99. I even found a store that had one copy that was actually marked at $2 but scanned at $19.99 at the register when I went to buy it.
More likely though a price drop occured, so it may be time to recheck things.
I hope so, I wouldn't mind picking up some $5 games for $2

I checked out the K-Mart on Beach Blvd in Jacksonville FL and it's crappy as usual. The guy manning the electronics desk was nice and let me look through the case, but the case itself looked like a cat's mating grounds.

North Canton, OH

Mario Golf Advance Tour - $3
Star Fox Adventures - $5
Golden Nugget GBA - $1.50
Riddick - $5

Scanned a Bionicle game for $19.99, must be different Bionicles.

Another oddity, scanned Shark Tale and it came up as BOGO 100% - no price at all listed. She had to manually type in the SKU to get 19.99. Perhaps there is an upcoming BOGO sale? Who knows.

might be true if the hypothesis in the first post is true.

since it's june now it would drop another 50% from $2 -> $1

all the systems might not update their prices right away tho, i'm not sure how it works (if they have to connect to a computer to download them or if its done instantly) so some people might still get $2 until the other stores change

According to the stickers, price drops occur in the middle of months. Also, I purchased titles today and there wasn't any further drops yet. It may be a YMMV for his store, Ive seen a few (One store out of 10 Ive been to has NHL Hitz Pro for $5.00 instead of 9.99)

Dave

With my updated sheet of prices I didn't see any further drops at the store nearest to me. Then again, I also have a bunch of things that are confirmed clearance ring up at the original prices via the scanner at that store today.
are you sure prices are YMMV?

Looks like there's some YMMV after all. I went back and picked up one MAT2 for each platform, all three were $2. But, my KMart is restocking clearance stuff! I talked to the guy a bit (same guy as last time) and he told me he had stuff in the back he was moving out to the case as he made space. I found a Zoo Keeper today that wasn't there last time. ALso new was Blinx 2 (XB-$5) , Shadow Hearts: Covenant (PS2-$7) and Chronicles of Riddick (XB-$5).

I rescanned a bunch of stuff on my UPC sheet and didn't notice anything had changed, so apparently no price drop yet.

The MATs and Riddick are definitely up for trade and Zoo Keeper is not. Blinx 2 and SH: C I haven't decided yet, so offers are considered.

We may want to start a thread for these trades, most of the other clearance sales have them.

Stunning... two K-Marts (Eastlake and Mentor), ZERO cheap games. Nothing under $5. In fact, the only clearance games period were a few copies of 1080 and some 05 sports games in a bin at Eastlake. I guess I missed the boat a bit. At least I only wasted $3 in gas.

Well I went to two K-marts today and came up pretty much empty as far as games. All I got that I wanted or even saw from the list was Zoo Keeper. I did get the 4 wavebird bundles I wanted though, 2 at each store and there were 1 or 2 left at the second K-mart).

I still need:

:gc:
Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes
Soul Calibur 2

I'll try one more K-mart this weekend some time. If anybody wants something and can get me those two games I'll look for it while I'm there (and if I find the games I want I'll still sell whatever anybody wants for low low prices :p).

Does anyone want to trade me something (can be a new or used good complete condition game for gba, gcn or ds, it can be any other game not just a game from the kmart sale.) for a copy of Starfox adventure gcn sealed (players choice)??? If not i am going to return it to the store, i bought it to use in the ebgames trade in deal but its probably not worth my while to use this game since i paid 5$ for it and it only gets 1.50 credit from ebgames (i am going to use other crap games instead). I would also be willing to sell the game for 12$ shipped pm me if interested. If you want to trade PM me with what you have or a link to your trade list, if i dont get any PM's this game is going back to the store.

The clerk's computer wouldn't let him sell me the shiny new DS Lite they had in the case :( but i did stumble across the last PS2 Logitech controller so it was far from a total loss. :D
Another oddity, scanned Shark Tale and it came up as BOGO 100% - no price at all listed. She had to manually type in the SKU to get 19.99. Perhaps there is an upcoming BOGO sale? Who knows.

Shark Tales GBA was free with purchase of a GBA
Looks like there's some YMMV after all. I went back and picked up one MAT2 for each platform, all three were $2. But, my KMart is restocking clearance stuff! I talked to the guy a bit (same guy as last time) and he told me he had stuff in the back he was moving out to the case as he made space. I found a Zoo Keeper today that wasn't there last time. ALso new was Blinx 2 (XB-$5) , Shadow Hearts: Covenant (PS2-$7) and Chronicles of Riddick (XB-$5)
Oh, snap! I hope they begin to restock. I need to find a couple more from the list!

Interesting when i scanned the barcode for shark tale gba the other day it came up 19.99 adv... (which means advertised price or something like that)

Sounds like this game is ymmv, all the other games i scanned barcodes for had the right prices including the ones i bought (the midway arcade classics was 2$).

Does Kmart do price drops on those clearance games regularly like Circuit City does? I meant if they would reduce prices further regularly until a final amount like $1.50? Say, would they reduce a game priced $7 now to like $5, and so forth at some predictable interval of time?

That is a great controller. I unplugged my regular controller and just use that now. It even has rumble. There was a lengthy thread on CAG last week about a deal from some wierd site where refurbished ones were going for $13 or $14 shipped. I'll take brand new for $12 any day :D. (They are also clearanced out at GR for $20 but I haven't been able to find one there).

Two people have hooked me up with Wavebirds (thanks hansolox1 and SailorDaravon!!!!), but if by chance someone ran across a few more, PM me plz. I could use at least 2, up to 3.

It's overkill but I wants 'em anyway. :)

Thanks guys!

Seems like it, one game I got had a ton of clearance stickers on it. The first one which was current was $7, then it had another sticker under it, then another, then $21, then $24.

Yeah thats how my games were, the midway arcade classics 2 had stickers but that was the only one, the rest were tagged with the regular white kmart sticker. The one copy of metroid zero mission i got had a million stickers, yet there are a few left in the corner of the case like i described marked at 24.99 each but they ring up 7$. The lowest sticker the midway arcade had on it was 5$ but still rang up at 2$. Other than that the niagara falls kmart is pretty picked over, i couldnt find any of the 2$ ps2 or xbox games on the list.

There was a terminator 3 (or some other terminator game) in the case that had a sticker that said 24$ and another 24$ game in the case next to it that i could not remember, i even had the cool employee that i ran into today check behind the games to see if there was anything else in there but there wasnt. I also ran into a nintendo rep today while i was shopping (talk about luck!) but she didnt say much.

I saw an eyetoy groove with camera bundle today, anyone know what its going for, also a mario party 6 was there and a mario party 7, i checked the mario party 7 at a price scanner (the gracious employee let me run to one since he was in training and wasnt able to check at the register) and it came up 49.99.

I also forgot to mention there were a few baten kaitos left.

Ok, I went back to a couple of stores and ended up with a bunch more games. Damn this CAG thing is addictive!! I just can't stop myself from buying these games so cheap, even if I already have 3 or 4 copies of a game already! Anyway, if anyone needs Mario Golf Advance Tour or Zoo Keeper, let me know please as I have about 7 of each.:lol: Now here is another GBA title to add to the master list: Scooby Doo 2 Monsters Unleashed $3 I also picked up Twisted Metal Small Brawl $1.99 for the PS1. Another new item is this: Mario Party Card Game for the E-Reader. Got that for $1.99 too. Oh and I found Super Collapse II for the GBA at $9.99, they also had Snood for the same price.

You guys are lucky, I drove 70 miles to the K-Mart in Moline, IL expecting to find a goldmine for some reason. Soon as I get there all they had were some Star Fox Adventures and penny guides full price.

BTW, I picked up a Twin Snakes and can get a Starfox Adventures/Sprung if anybody would like to trade or send Paypal cost+shipping. I'm still looking for Dino Thunder too if anybody wants to hook me up.

my k-mart has nothing now. The lady said some girl came in there and bought almost every game she had. She said she bought ten eye toys. I want to hurt her.

Found Karaoke Revolution 2 at one of the stores I went to yesterday -- amazingly enough, they even had 2 copies (picked up one for me, one for my sister).

LOL Tayaf, I've been lucky, most stores I've been to have been mostly devoid of clearance items, so I can't be the target of rage.

Mind you, I may decide to stop back at the one in Endicott, NY sometime soon and clear out the other 2 wireless Logitech controllers.

I just wish I could've found a copy of Red Dead Revolver for $2 for Xbox.

Then again, that would mean I have it for XBox AND PS2 then.

When I was at KMart today, the woman in Electronics said that a lot more games will be clearanced out in the near future. She specifically mentioned PS2, XBox, GC, and GBA. She said she gets a list of new clearance games every Sunday. She seemed to be a fairly bright woman so take that for what it's worth.

Also, I picked up:

Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events (GC) - $2
Rainbow Six 3 (GC) - $5
Rainbow Six: Black Arrow (XB) - $2
Mario Golf Advance Tour (GBA) - $3

Taking my list of super cheap games with me to Solon tonight on the off chance that the store there is still a K-Mart (as opposed to a Sears Essentials) and the deal exists.

Nothing decent to add at all, really...

On Kmart.com, they've got a bunch of stuff less than $10 - nothing good though.

Also, something that might be of help, in case you haven't thought about it - Kmart store locator:
http://www.kmart.com/storelocator/index.do?btnAction=Submit

Unfortunatly, the site only allows you to search for a 50 mile radius (which brings up exactly zero Kmarts for me. However, if you know anything about HTML, you can go in and edit the code to look for KMarts in a larger radius - 200 miles brings up a couple for me that I didn't know about!
