The Official PlayStation Vita Thread - 11/4: FW 3.00 Coming Just in Time for the PS4 Launch!
That was actually laid out in a press release on June 4th. I'm surprised none of the major outlets picked up on that.

http://www.prnewswire.com/news-rele...sed-starting-later-this-summer-157118775.html
For the love of god please make this true. I don't think I'll ever finish that GOW collection with everything else I have to get through. Playing it on Vita just may make it worthwhile. To me, GOW is a great portable game. Whole reason I bought the HD collection was how much I liked the PSP games.

But my dream remote play game is still Dead Space. It just sounds like it would work on remote play.
Whenever I click on this thread, it's in the hopes that there's a new firmware that's enabled PS1 classics. Sigh.
That'll be in August sometime.

Amazon has been emailing codes for 50 dollar off the vita. I'm on the fence should I bite now or should I wait for a better deal
I thought it was listed as just this summer?
It was, but the FW update will be in August per people in the know.
If anyone is interested in owning a PSVita, I just put mine up on my TL/Craigslist.
What happened to your couch gaming plan?

Update 1.04 for Hot Shots Golf WI is detailed:
Calling all golf fans! Update 1.04 for Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational on PlayStation Vita goes live this evening! Here’s what to expect the next time you hit the fairways:

Invite friends to play in private tournaments

Whereas before you could only play in Real Mode tournaments that were open to all, now you can create private tournaments for you and up to seven friends, as well as private rooms in the online lobby space. Out on the course, you’ll be able to see your opponent’s ball after each shot, and between holes you can also use text chat to communicate with your friends, on the scorecard screen.

Stroke Mode (Head-to-Head)

Previously Ad-Hoc only. A head-to-head competition for two players, where the golfer with the best results at the end of a round wins. You’ll be able to chat with and heckle your opponent between holes.

Match Mode (Head-to-Head)

Previously Ad-Hoc only. This is also a head-to-head competition for two players, but this time it’s the first competitor to get to 3UP status during a round who wins. Once more, chat and heckling is possible between holes.

Introducing Rank for Real Mode tournaments

Players will now be rated G0 (strong) to G4 (novice) depending on their online performance. Rank will act dynamically, with players ranked according to their performance in official tournaments with more than ten participants. This way, novice players can play without the fear of being completely decimated, while experienced players can compete with other skilled golfers.

Introducing Seasons to Daily Tournaments

In Daily Tournaments mode, there will now be one game per day — a reduction from the previous three — so that each Tournament will be more focused and exciting. One season is equivalent to seven days, with a variety of rankings measured per week. These include a Weekly Champion and Top 10 rankings.

That’s it for the new additions to Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational. Now grab a friend and your PS Vita and get golfing!

Hot Shots Golf WI is the first retail Vita game that I've purchased digitally, so it was nice to see that the game just merges into the icon/save that my retail version created for the game. So it seems like the games that require the memory card will be better for conversion to digital copies from what I've seen and read so far.

I recently went digital for Hot Shots as well. I was happy when my data was still there :)

I think I was grossly mistaken when I bought the Sony wireless stereo headset (model #: CECHYA-0080) thinking I'd be able to use them with my Vita :(

Woot woot

PSOne Classics rollout begins August 28th

One thing that actually has me pumped for the Vita is the"cross buy" functionality which gives you a free Vita copy of the game if you buy the PS3 version.

http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/14/playstation-all-stars-leads-ps3-vita-cross-buy-program/

I'm thinking this will only be for digital purchases as this would push digital sales.

So far Sly Cooper Collection, Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault, and PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale are confirmed for this feature. I'm usually opposed to digital content but this is very tempting since I'm interested in all three games.

PS+ is confirmed to be coming to Vita later this year, though they're not specific about what features/services of PS+ will be available for Vita.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012...-via-the-latest-system-software-update-v1-80/

Details on what will be coming in the 1.80 update for Vita:

Hi, everyone. One of the key announcements coming out of Gamescom today is that the next PS Vita System Software Update (v1.80) is coming your way late August, and will add support for playing PSone Classics on your PlayStation Vita. I know a lot of you have been looking forward to playing original PlayStation titles on the go.

In addition, you will be able to make various setting changes while games are running and take screenshots of your gameplay.
*It might not be possible to take screenshots in some applications, or in some parts of applications.

Listed below are a few other new features that will be added with the 1.80 update:

Cross Controller

The new Cross-Controller feature will allow you to use PS Vita as a controller to play compatible games on PS3, such as LittleBigPlanet 2. This feature lets you take advantage of PS Vita’s rich features including the touch screen, rear touch pad, six-axis motion sensing system, and cameras.

To access the cross controller feature you need to launch the Remote Play application and then click on the Cross-Controller icon.

Controls

As many of you have requested, you will now have the option to control the home screen and some features of applications such as Videos and Music with the buttons on the PS Vita system.

Music

Playlists will be supported in Music. You will be able to transfer iTunes (10.6.3 or later), M3U, and M3U8 playlists from a PS3 or a PC using Content Manager.

Web Browser

Rear touch pad operation will be supported by the browser, allowing you to scroll through and zoom out of pages without obscuring the screen.

Video

The following controls have been added to Videos:
Playback speed control
Repeat play

Photos

Viewing photos in MPO format will now be supported, with the ability to transfer MPO files from PS3™ and PC using Content Manager.
* 3D and multi-angle viewing are NOT supported.

Group Messaging

Along with some new layout enhancements, you will be able to take photos to add as attachments when writing Group Messages.

Maps

The Maps feature has been improved by adding a button on the top screen to switch between “Search for Location” and “Search for Directions.” You can also touch and hold a location on the map and place a user flag.

“near”

“near” will be able to gather the information of surrounding Wi-Fi access points without internet connection and update the location data based on it later. You can get location data within the area covered by Wi-Fi location services.

For more details on the features and enhancements described above as well as some additional information on this update, please click here.
They're adding a lot of great stuff and fixing things that needed to be fixed/tweaked. I'm glad that I'll be able to use the rear touch to scroll in the browser, as that's an under appreciated feature.

Gameplay trailer today reminded me of a game I just finished, Resistance Burning Skies. (which was also from Nihilistic) To me, they just removed the alien skins and added COD skins. I hope they prove me wrong though.
Lol Nihilistic is the developer for COD. That means there is a 90% chance it will blow.
Lol, NOW we know why Sony wouldn't reveal who
the dev was.

The graphics looked awful but even current vita standards

That's a beefy update, we need remote play though. It isn't right that people who "hack" their Vitas have more functionality than regular users. Even if I could just plug the damn thing into my PS3 for when the TV is being used and I want to chill in the living room. It's a huge reason I bought this thing, and most of the people I know that bought a Vita were under the assumption this could be done as well.
It isn't right that people who "hack" their Vitas have more functionality than regular users.
Um. Why else would anyone hack anything?

Killzone Mercenary: Shut Up and Take My Money.

When the hell are we going to get KZ1 on PS3 or Vita? I'd even give $15-20 for it.

Maybe I'm overthinking this, but it's hard for me not to see the 'Buy the PS3 version, get the Vita version FREE!' as more of a last-ditch effort to stimulate Vita sales than some awesome thing Sony just felt like doing.

Let's be fair, if the Vita had sold like gangbusters, Sony wouldn't be doing this. The other side of it is this... it's basically cannibalizing Vita software sales. With (comparatively) how few Vitas there are in the hands of consumers, I'd wager that a GIGANTIC percentage of those owners also have a PS3. So, in essence, Sony seems to be sacrificing sales of these Vita titles in order to, hopefully, move some Vita systems. I'm damn curious to see how this works out for them, since I can easily forsee this as making or breaking the Vita.

Anyway, don't get me wrong... I like the Vita and am happy with this announcement, but I'm also a little wary of Sony's ulterior motive here and whether it will come back to bite them in the ass.

maybe, maybe not. they're not indebted to this cross-buy program into the infinite future.

if it helps sell razors this year, it will have more people looking to buy blades next year.

now, whether that turns into people willing to *pay* for blades is another story entirely.

Exactly. If this doesn't spur Vita sales like they hope, it's going to be very hard to un-ring that bell. Especially once you consider that the fanbase it will piss off are the very vocal and loyal Sony fans who bought a Vita between launch and now. If they don't make a dent in the broader market *and* piss the loyalists off, that's not a great position.

Honestly, I think the Vita is a neat little machine that I hope at least becomes somewhat competitive in the marketplace. It's not necessarily what I envision or want out of the future of handhelds, but it certainly doesn't deserve to be viewed as a mistake. What I do know, though, is that I would have likely purchased both a PS3 and a Vita copy of most of these games, which I'd guess many people who already have a Vita would do, though maybe not right away. Sony, effectively, is deciding against taking my $40 in order to potentially boost system sales. I don't know, like I said... I think it's a hell of a gambit on Sony's part. It also strikes me as them trying every goddamn thing in their arsenal before caving to a price drop. It's a ballsy move, I give them that much.
Tearaway looks amazing
Looks great! This is the kind of game they needed from the beginning.
Really original stuff like this and Gravity Rush are what would make people really notice the system.

You guys need to remember that this was only announced for three titles, all of which are Sony First-Party developers. None of the 3rd-Party devs has jump one, for better or worse. I like that Sony is trying to show value with this kind of system, though ultimately I think we all know that a price drop is what it's going to take to boost sales...how long Sony decides to wait will ultimately be what decides how the Vita's future is shaped.

This could be the start of something that will be huge for all parties...
say they start offering PS3/PSV 2 packs avail @ launch for $80 or $100 & they come with all the DLC included. It would be hard for MS to compete head to head since they can't offer the same "value". Now if I was them I'd make this mainly avail thru pre-order only with a limited # avail in stores. Knowing that you;re buying the GOTY day 1 would make the price points perfect. If they really wanted to put a stanglehold it have them offer $100 CE w/all the DLC + swag the same way. All the games would have huge 1st weeks making everyone happy w/o cheating the customer.

I'd be more interested if I could buy the Vita version and get the PS3 version for free. I'm one of those people that doesn't always have 100% control over the TV and thus my gaming mainly occurs on portables. On the same hand, I can see why they wouldn't want to give away a $60 game with a $40 purchase but with 320 gb on my ps3 and 16 gb on my Vita, space for digital downloads is gonna run out on my Vita long before my PS3...
Some of the bundles coming out at the end of the year.

http://trendygamers.com/2012/08/24/sony-announced-ps-vita-price-cut-year-buy-bundles/
I already got a reg vita but will grab the AC bundle when there's a good GC deal/sale. At that point I'll sell my current vita for $150(not bad since I only "paid" $190 for it new @ BB using credit) & if I don't already have AC I'll sell or trade that as well. I was able to score tons of games via BB pm's of GS so adding them in a bundle that could net me $250 wouldn't even be that hard either.
Don't be surprised if Sony doesn't hit us with a PS3/PSvita bundle or a Holiday vita bundle either.

I'd say fuckthat & get in on some of these cheaper vita card deals instead & have lots of memory for the backlog that CAG will inevitably provide you.
