Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Then what do you do with 20? I'd say bonfire but they are digital. Give them on steam gifts and get 16 entires like world basketball manager?

I don't play FPS games online (I suuuuuck) but I did play Dino D-Day online in December for the gift achievement with some fellow CAGers. I loved the concept a lot, and while I could forgive presentation issues given that I bought it in an indie bundle for cheap, the implementation was really poor. I'd avoid it or at least check out a YouTube video as a gut check.

I'll buy them all day if they pay me to do so :p. With the copies I'll have a massive contest.

1000 people get a non-returnable copy of Dino D-Day
1 lucky person gets a copy of Shank 2

lol

If you're ok with punishing 1000 people ;)

Think of it as Steam Russian Roulette. However, I guess true Russian Roulette would be something like you have a 5/6 chance to get a copy of Skyrim but a 1/6 chance that every item you own on steam will be removed.

I'd take those odds. On my wife's account which just has our second copy of Portal 2 so we can do multiplayer. 5/6 to get Skyrim, 1/6 to lose ten bucks. Sounds like a winning wager.

Sooooooo..... If anyone happens to have a Skyrim coupon just sitting there collecting dust, i'd be more than happy to take it off your hands. :D Just think of it as a perfect way to help me test my computer build that was completed yesterday!

Thanks!

Scoregasm is now available from Steam for $8.99 which is 10% off the normal price. I'm sure a lot of you already got a code for it from Indie Royale.

Yep, and I feel bad that I haven't played it yet.

It's fun and all, but it crashes a hell of a lot on me. If I play for more than 3-4 levels I can expect it to fail.

Shame, fun little game.

It hurt to play that game, but the dinosaurs with big guns strapped to their backs made me laugh pretty hard.

It works great for me. I'm glad they finally added it to the store, as it'll get more exposure. It's a really neat twin stick shooter, with interesting levels and unique challenge levels.

Thanks so much for helping me out with that achievement! Yes, seeing those dinos with weapons fighting Nazis was hilarious. I really wish the game turned out better because using a weapon-enhanced dinosaur to snuff out Nazis sounds like heaven. :D

I played the game for one night, it gave me what I wanted - WWII dinosaur FPS... and yeah the best part was the dinosaurs with weapons. But it definitely had too many flaws. Not being able to choose weapons. 1 active server with 6 players worldwide, etc. But I got it in the bundle for the equivalent of one dollar so it was fine for me and I'll probably get back to it one day when I get the itch to be a triceratops with a turret gun.

I'd like a Bethesda steam coupon for Skyrim. I have a -50% Valve and -50% Rockstar coupons as well as Shattered Horizon for trade If anyone is interested.

Is it worth it to get Skryim for PC for the mods? I already have Skryim for 360, but my brother is borrowing it right now, so I was thinking of picking up the PC version on Steam.

The mods will only get better. A couple of months ago people were able to transfer saves from the 360 to the PC. If that still works with the currently released versions you may want to look into it.

Double Fine is using Kickstarter to attempt to fully fan-fund a new point-and-click adventure as well as a documentary of the process. Putting in at the base level of $15 gets you beta access and the completed game on Steam along with other perks. At the time of this post, they're already nearing half of their $400K goal.

Seeing as it's, in the end, a Steam purchase, I figured it to be relevant. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/66710809/double-fine-adventure At the very least, the site and promotional video for the project are thoroughly entertaining.

Edit: They just broke $200K

I wonder what the Minecraft guy is gonna get for his contribution.

One of my favorite bands, Skeleton Key, funded an album thru Kickstarter. They offered goodies like playing at your house and a haricut from a band member.

Does anyone have an extra 50% off Bethesda code laying around for sale or trade? Or some Steam credit maybe? I would like to finally pull the trigger on Skyrim.

Please check my TL for other goodies I have laying around to sweeten the deal.

Thanks...

Holy crap they're already past their goal. That's amazing. Notch is trying to get Psychonauts 2 made also.

Guess I'll go donate too, those bonuses sound pretty cool. Talk about a long preorder wait though. ;)

Damn, that was fast. They were halfway there at midnight.

could break the current kickstarter fund-raising record, would be great to see more smallish developers using the platform to publish games.

I believe this is the current record holder, with $986,558 and counting:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/hop/elevation-dock-the-best-dock-for-iphone

This article mentions that the previous record holder was the LunaTik watch kit for the iPod Nano, with $942,000:
I really hope this breaks their record because an iPhone dock? Seriously? Oh no Ipod docks make it hard to unplug my Iphone from maybe we should give someone 1 million dollars for convenience.
Considering it is over 700k right now, it probably will.

That is pretty incredible, I really didn't think they could be this successful going straight to the audience with just a promise. I wonder if this is repeatable or if the charm of the first investment will wear off with subsequent games.

I think you need a personality like Tim Schafer who is in charge of a company that has made several well liked games and who has a history in the genre (Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Grim Fandango, etc) that is considered legendary.

I'm sure other indie devs like Team Meat or Klei could raise a respectable amount but not anywhere near to this degree.

I bet Double Fine could do this again, but only if the project works.

It's going to fail and crash and burn

This is the worst thing that could ever happen to that area of gaming.

For the pub and effort and people behind it if it's not one of the greatest games of all time it's a failure.

No pressure

Yeah, all they needed to say was that Tim Schafer wants to make a new point-and-click adventure game and people would just say, "take my money, please!"

It probably would work if they said they wanted to make Psychonauts 2 as well.

What a waste of a weekend spot on a game everyone owns.

Rage is down to $14.99 for today

Were there many Rage or even id-Software coupons floating about? I do not remember too many people noting that they got any.

Bethesda coupons are probably what you are looking for but good luck getting one with skyrim and all. I didn't hear of any rage specific coupons but they may exist.

I really want to have faith in the game and get behind it and support it. I think it will be mediocre at worse and legendary at best. They now have a huge budget which adventure games haven't had in a long time. That being said, if this was coming out now unless it got great reviews I would be waiting for a sale.

Which is why this game is probably going to make more money this way than the traditional route. That being said, it can also be scaled appropriately for the audience, so it perhaps will turn out better than if they had to set a budget and try to forcast how many people would buy.

As you say, the worst Double Fine has done so far is mediocre (Brutal Legend) and much of what they have done is better, so no reason to assume this will fall on its face.

I'm one of the 6 people that don't own it. I actually tried to just buy it through the iOS app but there is a message that says its unavailable to buy it via the app. That's the first one I've come across like that.

Interesting. Maybe because the game is also on iOS and Valve has some sort of deal worked out with Apple?

I'm pretty sure there are Rage 33% coupons floating around the steam trading forums. Of course, they probably want a $15-20 game for the coupon :)
