Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
People's thoughts on GRID? I lean more toward arcade style racing games. Drifting and such is fine but if I need to do crazy shifting maneuvers or race with absolute Tronlike precision early on then I'm out. If it means anything I loved Burnout Revenge (PSP), Test Drive Le Mans 24 Hours (Dreamcast), Ridge Racer 4 (PS), and Motor Toon Grand Prix 2 (PS, Japan - funkiest bunch of cars in a game ever - the train was the best vehicle in the game :D).
Ill tell you I really liked it on consoles. Its plays a lot like Dirt only with a slightly different handling model due to the emphasis on grip racing not rally racing. I enjoyed playing ti with a controller on PS3, so I would be more inclined to recommend it if you have a controller and not a keyboard. I cant speak for the difficulty ramp up, as I only played the demo, but if the progression is anything like the Dirt series, its a pretty gradual ramp. I am seriously considering it for $3.xx, but I have since moved on to using a wheel in racing games so I dont know if I can go back to using a keyboard.
Worked like a charm. Awesome.

Once you're signed up, you can also get Steam DLC map packs for Sanctum for free.
awesome thanks for noticing the sanctum maps. Also don't forget to turn off auto renew.
Meh. Out of OMD keys.
They must have got hammered. I can't even download the game from steam. It just says servers are too busy.
Promo like that is a sure sign that Orcs Must Die! will be $2.50 soon.
Lol... Yup. Also, FML for that ending so damn fast...

I posted this in the thread that got locked but,

If you signed up for the IGN prime trial, you also get 15% off D2D purchases. That's $45 for Skyrim which is just a steam key anyway.

I played some of the first episode of Back to the Future and found it incredibly dull. Telltale has unfortunately fallen into a very comfortable formula, which all their games follow no more or less, and you'll even see the same puzzles you've done before in other games. Basically it's any other Telltale game in a new skin, except super simplified to appeal to a wider audience.

In my opinion it is pure fan service and you're only likely to enjoy it if you've never played a Telltale game and are content with BttF sound effects and characters to be the only enjoyable thing about the game. It's very lazy, very sloppy, barren and generic.

While I haven't played beyond the first episode what I've read by fellow adventure game fans (mixnmojo.com) seems to confirm my fear that the rest aren't any better.

One more thing to add is that despite caving in to fan pressure on Tales of Monkey Island, Telltale have gone back to destroying the voice acting with super high audio compression. If you've got any sort of quality speakers or especially headphones the voice work in the game is crappy quality, grating and flat sounding because of lack of dynamic range. This applies to all Telltale games though except Tales, one more reason why I don't like to buy their games, much as I'm tempted to sometimes being a point-and-click adventure fan.

If you're thinking about buying GRID, you should know what you're getting.

Back in June, Codemasters shut down the multiplayer servers for this game for PC and PS3 users. At the 11th hour, a new server host picked up the game - GameRanger, in Australia, for PC servers only. They are still hosting MP games.

So if you're buying GRID to play multiplayer, you may have terrible ping times if you live in North America. Also, I believe that GameRanger requires their own client to play on their servers. So... hassle...

Consider it $3.75 for a single-player game, and you'll be happy.

BTW, kudos to GameRanger for picking up the servers for PC users. But *thpbpbptptpbtpttttTTT* to Codemasters for shutting down servers after less than 3 years. That's just rude.

Closer to $50 after tax for me.

I guess that is why Steam lists is as single player only. It sucks because my dad and I like to race each other online and I was hoping this would be something different from Shift 2. I'll still pick up to play around with though.

Question why would I want Grid if I own Shift 2? Is there any improvements/differences that make Grid worth owning? I might pick it up but I already own Shift 2 for PC. I would only play singleplayer.

Sonic Generations just got added to Steam, comes out November 4th which is three days after consoles but it's $30 (with 2 genesis sonic games) or $25.02 if you use the 10% off code at Green Man Gaming (which is Steamworks). Hell of a deal since it's $25 off the PS3/360 versions.
Ah damn, should have checked this thread earlier. Orcs Must Die and Sanctum DLC for free would have been killer.
Pretty sure the Sanctum DLC is still up for grabs.

Uurgh, I really wish there was a demo for GRID. I finished the Steam download and played it. I'm using an Xbox 360 pad with it and man, it's just not my cup of tea. I can see why others dig it but I think this is it for me when it comes to these kinds of racing games. I'm probably just out of practice since I almost never play racing games but the sim aspect of these types of racing games (both setup and physics) are, for me, really unforgiving. I think I'm just getting old; I had way, way more patience when I played Formula 1 and the original Rally Cross on the Playstation (not a fair comparison to GRID at all but they got really tough later).

Otherwise I really like the presentation, the options and the general lack of fluffery that Dirt 2 had with its presentation. D2 was gorgeous and really felt like you were on a tour (tour bus and backstage area was really, really awesome) but I like how GRID cuts a lot of that away and gets you right into the race.

Sorry if this isn't quite on topic but figured I'd put it here in case anyone was curious. At less than $4 I don't feel like I was ripped off or anything, rather, I was just impetuous yet again with another Steam sale ;D

I don't know if you would. I love racing games, so they are unique to me. I think you could argue Shift is more sim-like than Grid. If youre not a huge racing game fan, you are likely better off saving your money. As already mentioned, its basically single-player at this point.

Heads up for those who haven't seen the primary thread on this:

There's a new bundle in town: The IndieRoyale Bundle. Looks like new bundles every two weeks with an interesting pricing system. Pay more than the minimum (currently under $3), drive the minimum down for others. Pay the minimum, and drive it up for others.

3 out of the 4 games (Sanctum, Nimbus, and A.R.E.S) come with Steam keys while the 4th (Gemini Rue) will be adding Steam keys shortly.

And now, cue RollingSkull's knocking of indie games.
DOTD: Astro Tripper $4.99

Colorful shoot em up game. A bit too high imo.
I got Astro Tripper for free via PlayStation Plus. I played it for about five minutes and then never looked at it again. There are much better space shooters to be had without the very annoying control scheme.

It seems unlikely that this wasn't posted, but I can't seem to find it in a search of the thread, so I apologize if it has been. You can get a free copy of Sequence for Steam by posting in a thread on NeoGAF. Here is the thread about it in the free stuff forum.

Man. I want Sequence. Sounds like folks that create new accounts aren't getting in, so I'm not going to bother. If anyone has a spare Sequence code, hit me up. You be my buddy. :D

I went ahead and bit on the Indie Royale bundle, also mostly because I want Gemini Rue. If this is a taste of future bundles, I think this service will be getting my money every time. :applause:

The guy said he was giving away codes until the end of the year. It gives you quite a bit of time to get your email verified. I think it's worth a shot. I already had an account and got my code in about a day.

I was also psyched about Gemini Rue. It was the reason I bought it and the reason I hesitated when I saw there was no Steam key. When I read that it was coming I purchased it immediately.

Someone in the thread found what might be a leaked list of upcoming games. Bastion is on it and that alone makes me excited for where this might go.

I don't have any other emails beside my Gmail, so I guess NeoGaf is out for me.

Still, I'd trade Sanctum for Sequence, if anyone cares. I suppose I should go to the right thread and blah blah blah.

And yes, Bastion will get my immediate munnies.

Been waiting for Gemini Rue to come to Steam. Definitely in on the bundle just for that. Sanctum is just TD and ARES Extinction Agenda just blows really but this bundle is still MUCH closer to real games than the HIBs are. Will keep my eyes on these.

What's your opinion on Nimbus? I really liked the demo when I played it a while back thought it was a neat little puzzle game.

Nimbus is the only one I don't own and will be adding that to my Steam cadre when the codes return. It does not look bad.

Really, none of the games appear to be BAD. Sanctum is a decent enough twist on a genre I loathe. ARES has nothing going for it in combat and level design but has enough of the wannabe Mega Man X energy in presentation, music, and bosses that you won't feel like you wasted your penny/$3. I'm just saying, I would not have bought in if not for Gemini Rue.

I agree. Nimbus is alright, nothing wrong with the game, just feels like a flash game with HD graphics to be honest. ARES has great music and bosses but fails in a lot of other areas. Sanctum is well TD except you get to shoot stuff as well.

Not really complaining because I got 4 games for under $3 but nothing that really stands out so far as really good so far to me.

The Sanctum DLC seems like it adds automatically. In game I saw the towers Violater and Killing Floor perhaps? I didnt no I could use them tho.

Vampire The Masquerade is $5. Tempting.

Why is Ghostbusters The Video Game half as much as Sanctum of Slime? Sure, it's older, but the scope and (relative) quality of that game is so much higher than Sanctum of Slime.
