CAGiversary!
Feedback

Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V4! You can find the V1 thread (Nov 2010-July 2011) here, V2 thread (July 2011 - Feb 2012) here, and V3 thread (Feb-July 2012) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 8/9
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Speaking as somebody who isn't a member of BGCQ, I'd have to agree that it's pretty far from elitist. You pretty much only have to be a semi-reg here to get in. I've seen the OK given to people who I barely recognize.

And I wish you would change your mind and join the group. You and anyone else who posts in here with some frequency. I think it's been a positive thing (and no, this little flare up had nothing to do with the group), and I want everyone available in the group. We're setting up multiplayer sessions, hosting lots of giveaways, and actually getting to know each other.

So let me say this one more time:
If you post here relatively regularly and I haven't sent you an invite yet, please PM me and I will set things up. I want as many people in there as we see posting in this thread.

How come you're not in BGCQ, just curious? (Please PM reply, I tried to PM you, but your box is full!)

EDIT:
By the way, BGCQ is by no means an elitist group. It's a group for the regulars. This might piss some people off, and that's understandable. But instead of bashing the group, just post here frequently and get in. =P It's really nice to have a group for all of the regulars, since this is a great community as it is, why not enjoy some of that goodness in your "gaming" life, not just "forum" life? =]

I grabbed one of the Alienware skin codes for Orcs Must Die 2. I plan to buy the game in the future, having enjoyed the bit I've played of the first so far. Does anyone know what happens if you enter the code without owning the game yet? Or is it not a Steam key but something entered within the game itself? I'm afraid to try at the risk of invalidating the code.

It's a Steam code, redeemed like all other Steam keys. But why would that invalidate it? I've never heard of this before, but I guess I've never tried to enter a code for something that I didn't have a prerequisite (?) for. If you're in doubt though, I'd just wait it out until you get the game. Not like the code will magically go bad. =P

I tried activating mine before installing the game, Steam will tell you that the code requires the base game, it doesn't activate the code. Tell's you to activate the code after installing the base game. now, whether there is an expiration on the code by Alienware is another issue.
So I been wondering. The thing is backloggery is fine, but I was wondering if there was a way to make an order of games that I plan on playing/keep a detailed account of.

I realized it's not that I have so many games, but I often start one and forget about it. I was wondering if I can set more of a idea/roadmap so I try to avoid that. Yeah I can use a spreadsheet but I was wondering if there is something more technological advanced, lol.

@Sir_Fragalot, just make a wallpaper that says if I don't play x,y,z game by so and so date, I'm a super duper d-bag. Set as desktop background, and voila constant annoying reminder every time you start up the computer =D. Technology is overrated!

I suppose and Excel Spreadsheet would be as "technologically advanced" as the user is good at programming, but I believe a spreadsheet would be the best way of doing this since it allows you to easily manipulate it while also being able to maintain a local backup copy.

I know a guy from my girl's family who uses Excel Macros to maintain/update his database and website (used for a football pool). He's also created a "shopping list" spreadsheet in which he's stored many of his wife's recipes which allows her to select what she'd like to make, and it creates a shopping list for her (recipes broken down into individual components), which she can print out and bring with her to the store.

Of course, this takes times, but it's the best way to get the job done that I know of.

I recently started a spreadsheet for all of my games (title, # of games, category, serial keys, and any bonus content available for download, GOG extras for example).

The idea behind Backloggery is great, but it just isn't worth putting in the time and effort to putting all of your games on it. This is why I decided to do a spreadsheet, and this way I can include as little or an much info as I want, and even make it prettier later on if need be. ;)
All of these approaches are clearly flawed. All they do it attempt to inventory the scope of the problem. What we need a plan! I'm expecting Gantt Charts from all of you by Friday. This way we'll have milestones and weekly progress reports. We'll form a new group, the Backlog Jihad. DEATH TO THE GREAT BACKLOG!!! :bouncy:
I'll agree with pretty much every point made here. We have gotten quite a bit off track several times over the last couple weeks. I haven't been keeping up with the thread at all over the past few days. I was a little skeptical at Fox's 100-something Saints Row DLC codes he gave away, but I read his post about them after and found out he's just being generous. I don't recall if I posted that here or on SG, but I certainly hope I didn't start something. And I didn't know it was Fox until I checked my friend's list.

But anyway, you do an excellent job with BGCQ. :applause:

@Lint - BSB controls the invitations himself to ensure it stays a CAG-exclusive group in terms of SG giveaways. Anyone in the CAG Steam group can invite anyone else, so people making several accounts and filling them with bundle games and inviting themselves is the result. The only registered CAG whom I recall winning one of my contests is draekenae. If you're an active CAG, you can join. If you're not, you're out of luck. It's not for "overprivileged niche kids."

I really wish there was a good way to keep track of this stuff, too. The best I've been able to come up with is in steam I have my games organized into many categories. It's ridiculous. There's 4 categories for games that I have made progress in (I keep track of how far into the game I've played and sort accordingly), then 3 more for unplayed games (ranked based on how likely I am to want to play them). But even that takes forever to set up.

I just don't think there's any way to do this sort of stuff that doesn't require a bit of effort.
Nice find!!! I wish more games would do things like this, is it download and keep it forever type thing or will you have to buy it after the free part?
after I installed it, it shows as Steam Retail so I believe you keep it forever like the St Patricks Day and Valentine's Day ones.

Nope, free. Just click the "buy" button now and be done with it. It'll go to pay-for-DLC soon enough (like the Halloween pack did) so the only people who miss out are people who don't own DD yet.

We really need to organise a few DD nights. It's great fun with friends.

So, does anyone here have Max Payne 3? I have it (unfortunately not on steam) and am playing it, but I just can't decide if I like it yet. I am up to chapter 8 and I keep changing my mind on whether or not to continue it now or play something else and come back to it.
I loved the previous 2, not sure what it is about this one that keeps putting me off somewhat.
Without spoilers can anyone tell me if the game gets any better from here out, or is it more of the same?

Maybe it's the sound card issue I am having that's bumming my trip on it. (I had asked here which card people recommended - Motoki recommended one, I bought a different one since I am a moron like that - lol). Anyway, I got the Asus Xonar d1 the other day and I keep hearing a quick static-y popping noise (both in the speakers or headphones - I actually picked the Xonar d1 for the dolby headphone options).

I've pretty much given up on it at this point - people were talking the other day about IRQ settings - well I've been playing with them in the bios (it's unfortunately no longer a distant memory for me).
The Steam trailer for Flatout, Ultimate Carnage sure makes it look awesome. I think I'll buy the complete pack. I have Flatout 1, but you get extra giftable copies for any games you own with this bundle.
Flatout UC isn't bad. It has some good variety and if I'm not mistaken the last one made from the original developer. Of Course I am sure most people will pass on it because it used GFWL. Essentially it is just an expanded Flatout game with more content, better graphics, and exactly the same gameplay, besides the new modes like Destruction Derbies.

It's been a long time since I read that comic, but yes that was always one of the little references I would throw out there and eventually just became part of my random comments I would say in games :D

The elitist comment was supposed to have been a joke. I thought someone had expressed concern over BGCQ being considered "elitist" when it was a topic of conversation and debate not long after its inception. Apparently I am epic fail at jokes because nobody got it. This makes sense after searching the thread for "elitist" and finding nothing. . My sincere apologies if I offended anyone.

On the topic of BGCQ though, I think the admission protocol should be based on more tangible factors. Like, number of non-filler posts in this thread plus a reasonable service time requirement gets you access. Sort of a next step after the custom user titles, to encourage meaningful contributions to the topic at hand. You're right, BSB, it is a good group of folks here (expect the ones on my ignore list), and the more we can encourage participation, the better it becomes :)
also hopefully the more deals I can find

No one cares what I say or think, but regardless:

The entire Steamgifts topic is pretty silly. I assume the entire issue is brought up upon the accusation that people "cheat" the system by putting up severely discounted games and/or indie bundle codes. For one, it has nothing to do with the person putting up the game whether or not the "value" on the game is high or low. One way or another, someone paid a given amount for a digital item/s, and decided to give it away. Whatever price VALVE puts on that game is their problem, not the giveaway...er.

The second point is that regardless of how much you giveaway on Steamgifts, you're still not really doing yourself any favors. See a nice giveaway with a $1000+ contributor level? Yeah, well there's still 500+ people entered in it. The fact of the matter is that everyone who is a regular Steamer and deal finder is going to have a lot of games they don't need, and those games add up fast. Regardless if someone purposely hoards indie bundle keys or heavy Steam sales just to give away, you're still going to enter a giveaway with loads of people... Why? Because loads of people are doing this, duh.

Let's break out the math (I'm slightly drunk right now, so bare with me).

If you spend... $75+ on highly expensive (normally) Steam bundles, like the SR3 Franchise Pack, you'll have $1000+ Steamgifts contributor credit. Now say you find an AMAZING giveaway for something nice, like Skyrim, that has a $1000+ contributor prerequisite. How many people are going to be in it? Likely 100+, but let's just humor the theory and say 50 people are in. What are your odds of winning? 2%. How many times are you going to find that awesome giveaway? 50 more times? After a very long time, maybe. And what's Skyrim worth? $30 on sale? Oh yeah, better yell at those thieves.

So in the end, what's the problem? The only people who should be "burned at the stake", so to speak, are only the ones who are extremely lucky. Honestly though, for going through the effort to give away all that crap, I think they deserve a return for their invested time and money.

/rantover

The argument is nonsense, but then again, Motoki likes complaining about people for no reason.

Agreed. BSB let me in BGQC and Motoki (the other admin) views me as the anti-Christ. What does that tell you about elitism?
Flatout UC isn't bad. It has some good variety and if I'm not mistaken the last one made from the original developer. Of Course I am sure most people will pass on it because it used GFWL, which I have never had a problem with.
In case you haven't seen it, UC is the same as FlatOut 2. It just has a handful of extra cars/tracks/game modes and has slightly updated graphics. The choice comes down to whether you want GFWL or not, and GFWL gives you easy and nice 360 controller support, and GFWL doesn't.

FlatOut 2 also has more custom mods, if that's your thing.

Come to think of it, why aren't you in the group? Lol...

I personally liked it when we did the whole "sacrifice a domesticated farm animal under a full moon" rite of passage that we used to do. Hunting that ostrich down was a testing but utlimately worthwhile test of my commitment to the greater CAG cause. Hour aftet hour i stalked my prey, but finally i struck, and it was glorious. It took me hours to get the entrails arranged into the correct pattern, what with all those candles and things, but it was absolutely worth it.

...

What?

I'm sure i'll get nailed for this but oh well, i kinda see it as elitist if you must call it that, more a cool kids kind of thing really but i guess that's kind of oranges and apples , lol , now since i was declined i kinda see the other side of it.

I thought the original point of it was to get rid of lurkers and new accounts wanting giveaways, which leaves like i dunno 30% of us left, so not everyone of those people can get in but to be declined for stupid crap is maybe were the elitist aspect comes in.

I have perfect feedback, have cag on my profile and am proud of cag and to be here in general, but because i don't post alot in 1 specific thread that has 10 random OT threads going on instead of deals then i'm not allowed in, i always read every post but usually i don't post because the items in question have been answered or the topic at hand i know nothing of it enough to help so i don't clog the thread.

I'd rather talk in a steam chat group so i can play games, lol, i have many cags on my friends list, regular and BGCQ's and even had 2 vouch for me, so i get were the vibe of elitist's comes from, it kinda feels like if your not in your not cool and we don't want to talk to you, lol, the really sad part is most the people I Myself talk to on here are in there, so to quit babbling, i like the idea, i like the group itself and the members in it but find limits on people are what's wrong, i don't see why 100-150 plus or minus cant' be in there, but only if 100% verifiable and they continue to participate.

Figured since I brought it up I should probably clarify it, so a bunch of people didn't change their password.

Also, just finished Legend of Fae recently- ugh, what a rage inducing game. The end boss was vicious- spent an hour trying to beat her before I crawled to google to beg for help. I haven't had to do that in a long time. Found out I had to respec my lantern to beat the boss (spec fire, health regen/status removal, and poison combos are a must). Another annoying thing about the game is that to get the full ending you have to beat it on hard- yup, I got my ass handed to me by Legend of Fae on easy.

Hm, well I guess it's just the social aspect of it. It's a social group, so if you're not very social on the Steam thread, it's understandable to some degree. As off-topic as this thread gets, when it comes to sales, there is a lot of on topic discussion here.

Just my take, I dunno.

This is why I decided to do a spreadsheet, and this way I can include as little or an much info as I want, and even make it prettier later on if need be. ;)
PHUCKING NERDS...really?

I have posted in the Steam trade thread a while back but no response.

My girlfriend got hooked on Dungeon Defenders AFTER the Summer Sale.

If anyone has a Dungeon Defenders Collection for sale please let me know so that I can get it for her account.

Thanks!

That being said, thank you for the heads up on the DD free DLC!

Grow some balls and stop your whining....kids!

That's about at the maturity level i was expecting, thank you sir/ma'am, for a minute there i thought something was wrong
Gotta love the shitty one-liners from the dude who's been here for almost a decade. :D
Couldn't agree more. What an asset to the community! :applause:

I've just woke up and I hardly believe what has happened here. I'm resetting this thread right now.

Did you know that Flatout Complete Pack is daily deal on Steam?
Flatout Complete Pack $7.99 (-80%)
Flatout $1.87 (-75%)
Flatout 2 $2.49 (-75%)
Flatout 3: Chaos & Destruction $7.49 (-75%)

Have fun, guys.
Actually, Tony gave him 200 DLC codes specifically to give away on steamgifts. Unfortunately, the 70 codes or so that are left over will likely go back into the CAG code distributor and be abused by people again.

I know there are all the complaints about being off topic (And I know we are way, way off topic), but honestly every thread gets derailed eventually and a repeatedly throughout the years. There can only be so much talk about the deals and they can be summed up quite quickly.

Flatout are good games. If you love rag-doll physics, variety, and racing then check them out. A lot of Racing games revolve solely around racing while these have a bunch of super fun mini games to break up the monotony of simply racing.

Also you missed Flatout UC for $4.99 (-75%) and as far as I know you should avoid Flatout 3 at all costs. Not made by the same developer and apparently terrible. Of course having a feature from M Night Shamwow is probably going to make your game terrible (I have no idea what Sixense is).

Now back to off topic because that is all that needs to be said about those games. I am all for keeping things on topic, but this thread would die if we never went of topic because there just isn't simply enough to say about deals, which anything that is not a steam deal related it truly off topic in this thread.

You're right, but I just wanted to cut off the offtopic quickly. I like this thread for what it is, but the discussion through last pages went a bit too far and it wasn't nice anymore here.
We have gotten quite a bit off track several times over the last couple weeks. We should do a better job of sticking to talking about the games in here.
Ok, I'll help and get back to Steam-related game discussion....so anyone psyched about the potential upcoming Earth's Special Forces 1.3 (mod for Half-Life 1) release!?

I'm actually a bit serious, was really surprised to see there might be an update coming out soon. In preparation for it...anyone know how the hell to fix creating games for any half-life 1/2 mod? Everytime I or any of my friends do it, and try and connect, we are always just given local IPs of the given person we are trying to connect too (and yes, we are making sure not to make lan games ). I really don't wanna go the route of having to have everyone join my VPN (its hard enough explaining to some people WHAT a VPN is much less how to connect to mine). So ya, any ideas out there? And I already insured port forwarding on all pcs in question.

Speaking of past mods, the new Natural Selection II is looking really good.

And I just won Payday! Yay, happy me.

(I know you people don't care but I'm happy about that one) :D
And I wish you would change your mind and join the group. You and anyone else who posts in here with some frequency. I think it's been a positive thing (and no, this little flare up had nothing to do with the group), and I want everyone available in the group. We're setting up multiplayer sessions, hosting lots of giveaways, and actually getting to know each other.

So let me say this one more time:
If you post here relatively regularly and I haven't sent you an invite yet, please PM me and I will set things up. I want as many people in there as we see posting in this thread.

On-topic: I hate racing games. Rawr.
I hate racing games as well. But then I played Driver: SF. It's pretty much the only driving game that I've enjoyed.
On-topic: I hate racing games. Rawr.
I can stand racing games here and there (kind of like my one sports game per console generation rule) and any rally racing, which there are not enough of. Oddly enough I enjoy any and all types of racing games but Flatout is great just because you could never race and solely do the mini games, which are awesome, although that would get incredibly boring after awhile.

Of course if you are solely a PC gamer and have an avid hatred of controllers I can entirely understand disliking racing games... or sports games... or third person games.... or some platformers... or some RPGs... or twin stick shooters... or some schmups... or any local multiplayer games. Seriously how many people took part in a 3 player game of Trine on the PC... my friends glared at me when I suggested it and I even had two usb controllers...

Which version of Half-life 1 are you modifying? If it's the source re-release, you can try the Source Multiplayer Dedicated Server tool. I think that would solve your issues, but I haven't messed with that much in recent months. If that doesn't work, you might need to set a static IP for the host and pass that out, or just use Hamachi/Tungle/etc.
