CAGiversary!
Feedback

Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V4! You can find the V1 thread (Nov 2010-July 2011) here, V2 thread (July 2011 - Feb 2012) here, and V3 thread (Feb-July 2012) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 8/9
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Indie Bundles thread on Steam forums (link)
Exactly! I went into thinking it would be a joke, 15 hours later I'm hooked. I've never played a builder game before, and I actually enjoy it. Plus, having brawny gents compliment me constantly isn't too bad either.

This game is a steal for $2.50.
I am starting to crack and consider getting the game. Also I might do that The End, I mean I grabbed the copy from best buy for $10, but I haven't opened it yet. Still on the fence.
Braid...
I keep hoping some of these non winning community choices will show up like Divinity and Two worlds...and most of all maybe I unno Kings Bounty?! I swear it was in every other sale since it's been out but this one

Two worlds was already either a daily or flash sale the other day.

Finally caught up with thread for the day.

Deals are actually getting duller in the latter days of the sale.

Did jump on Burnout Ultimate even though I love Amazon tony for all his hard work I passed on the amazon deal since I bought so much from them.

I have yet to buy anything this steam sale. Everything I either have, don't want, or am waiting for a cheaper price. This is surprising.

You know what game without a strong discount that surprises me? Saints Row 2. You would think with the popularity of Saints Row 3, they'd mark down Saints Row 2 more than 33%. At least get it down to $5 for a flash sale. I have no clue why that game hasn't ended up in a sale yet.
Two worlds was already either a daily or flash sale the other day.
Ah kay thought it was but wans't 100% sure. So I guess there is hope for Divinity. But prolly not much hope at this point for the older 50% off games at this point to go 75% it seems.

Tony in the Amazon thread mentioned plans to put Divinity II: DKS back on sale for $5.99 at some point so unless you need it right now, maybe it's worth the wait.

That works for me :applause: Each sale Amazon has I am glad they are now competing with Steam. Maybe in time Steam will be forced to match them rather than the other way around. Already Amazon has had better prices for games most notably Binary Domain and Sniper Elite.
anyone have experience with Driver? I like racing games but reviews seem kind of meh.
When I first heard about the Shift system, I thought it was a lazy way to avoid having to program on-foot controls. It's actually brilliant, though, as it eliminates the tedium of jacking (I suppose that "commandeering" would be the word to use here, since Tanner's a cop) vehicles. It's pure driving with the freedom to take over any vehicle anywhere instantaneously.

I also like the way the game embraces the absurdity of its concept. It's a welcome departure from the grungy seriousness that tends to prevail in this type of game.

I played Driver: SF on PS3, though, so I can't comment about whatever peculiarities the PC version may have. I read in another thread that the lighting is messed up?
I'm not gung-ho about racing games but Burnout for $4 is very tempting. Could a non racing-fan enjoy this?
Hard to say, depending on what you mean by "non racing fan." I don't get into hardcore racing sims and I've never owned a wheel in my life. BP has a variety of different events, although if you want to get the best licenses and vehicles, you will have to win some straight-up races. However, some of the other kinds of events include races where the objective is to take out your opponents AND win (much more fun) and stunt runs.

I leave this thread for 8 hours to get some sleep...20 pages later...

Recap:
* New Steam group, only elitists allowed
* Coconut Queen has been reasserted as the BEST GAME IN HISTORY. You think you're hard with your Civ V? fuck that, its all about the Coconuts.
* Random On Topic posts about games on sale, who the fuck is making these kinds of post here?! Get the fuck out, V5 thread should be renamed "The Coconut Queen Deal Thread V5!"
* Kingdoms of Amalur is predicted to be the next big thing ;)
* Burnout is a good deal
Should make it obligatory to own Coconut Queen before accepting anyone ;)
Um, no, thats too easy. Anyone whos anyone can and have bought Coconut Queen. I say the stakes are raised...all members must have clocked 100 hours before joining and maintain a weekly 48 hours to remain in the group.

The only thing I'm hoping for is a return to the X3 deals. I missed out on the first one because I couldn't figure out which one to buy, and wasn't going to randomly pick one after 10 seconds. I've bought a bunch of other stuff, though, so I can always wait till it goes on sale again this Christmas...

P.S. - anyone else find themselves spending more time reading this thread, checking the Steam forums, and checking Steamgifts than actually PLAYING any games?! Sad...

I've decided to DL the Civ V demo to see what it's all about. It looks like a really interesting game. I'm just confused on how to dive into it. I kind of want to wait it out to get a deluxe edition, and paying 12.50 for a GOTY that doesn't have all the content doesn't sit well with me. I'm thinking I maybe should hold off on playing the demo until they put out a deluxe edition and the price is friendly.

wow for the person who mentioned Analogue: A Hate Story in this thread, big thanks! I picked this game up a while ago and its really great :). highly recommend it.

This CAG deserves president status in the Brawny Gents and Coconut Queens group!

BTW Shift 2 is on sale for 4.99 but it's not listed with the other games on the Burnout Paradise list.

edit: It's probably part of the flash sale (75% off) since it's usually bundled with these on previous sales.

so far so good. the only thing that sucks is the DCUO Power Bundle DLC is not working at all!! i've put in support tickets on both SOE and Steam and still haven't heard anything back. can you ever get a refund on steam purchases?? that's probably the only one i regret purchasing so far. frustrating

Let's get this BGCQ thing rolling with a giveaway.

It isn't the priciest game on Steam, but it's darn fun... Delve Deeper + Treasures and Tunnels DLC!

Coconut Queen is a fad. Someone had to say it. As soon as the next beefcake-themed island paradise business management game comes out, the Coconut Queen will be deposed.

Stay away from the demo! Consume you, it will!

You won't be seeing a "complete" edition any time soon. There's at least one more expansion and lots of DLC to be expected - Civ III and IV both had two expansions before releasing "complete" editions.

I'd suggest you buy the core game at $7.50. Most of the DLC available is stuff you won't use anyways - cradle of civilization maps?! Those used to be the pre-order bonuses. Yeah - "pre-order from xxxx retailer, and get a map you'll never use!"

So after playing 18 Wheels of Steel: American Long Haul. I have to say without a doubt it is the hardest game I have ever played in my life. Dark/Demon souls is hard? Nope I wana be the guy? Nope Ninja Gaiden? Nope

All of those pale in comparison to having to attualy drive the real life distance from Atalanta Georgia to Los Angels the entire free way system with only a large map where you need to memorize your self ahead of time which freeways and exits you need to get off on for your route.

Also if you miss a turn or hit someone you take damage and also the cops will ticket and maybe even arrest you. Failure to put on your turn signal? that's a ticket..improper lane change..ticket..Also these big rigs drive like a drunken whale.

This game is without a doubt the hardest videogame ever made...I still have yet to make it 10 miles without crashing and or losing my trailer of goods.

I seriously doubt that anyone in this thread could even complete one long distance delivery in the game. Luckily there is a save function so you can pause your 8+ hour real life time journey for a breather. You want challenge this game has it!

Hey guys, I'm from Trinidad and NFS: Shift 2 is $7.50 here. Anyone from the US can help me get it for $5? I can pay via PayPal or Amazon GC. PM me if you can help out :) Thanks!

Edit: Thanks Lazer77!

For some reason I can never keep Delve Deeper straight from Dwarfs! I know I own one and not the other but I can never remember which is which. I just checked and it is indeed Delve Deeper I own so good luck to all who enter I will sit this one out. Thanks for the giveaway though.

Hahaha, it reminds me of Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing, a game so incomplete the retail version features opponents that don't even move.
Argh! Do not make me want this game.
You prolly do not want this game. I am now starring at it in hatred yet for some odd reason I want to continue playing. It is the most realistic simulator I have played mostly because it really makes you feel like your a truck driver cursing the gods for why your doing this, and even worse doing the work for no real life pay.

Though there is a campain mode in the game as well as free drive(only thing i've done) In Campain mode it looks like you start up your trucking company and the pay you get for your delivery's is what you use to help buy new vehicles and to expand.

Oh also you have to actually fuel up your truck too when on long distance trips ;)

Did you know you can also use your own songs and music to play from the radio in the game? From the forum "The game doesn't seem to deal with mp3s or such, but as you might know it likes OGG files better. Just convert your MP3s to OGGs (if needed) and simply place them in the music folder. The game has a folder in your default "Documents" folder named "18 Wheels of Steel American Long Haul"
Hahaha, it reminds me of Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing, a game so incomplete the retail version features opponents that don't even move.
Oh no unlike Big Rigs, this game attualy works and isn't a race game as much as a simulator. It is just amazing how hard it really is being a trucker and having to make a three point turn with a trailer and manage not to hit anything and also brake soon enough ahead of time so you don't plow into the car infront of you. If you ever tried to follow the real life traffic rules in a GTA game (stopping at red lights and putting on your blinker) This game is like that only far far more realistic and in a huge 18 wheel rig.

I've been attempting to actually follow the thread today, and somehow I missed the new group creation. Tis Amusing. but the overprivileged niche kid, and pretentious cag in me means that it's just not gabbelicius cause it doesn't have a Railworks reference.

Therefore, I put forth the name change of Brawny Gents and Coconut Queens (On Trains).

Thank you.

Totally up to you. Some packs are just a civ or two; others include a scenario. I believe one also adds a few wonders. Just play the demo, decide if you like it, and go from there. Is the DLC worth $5.00? No way. $1.24? That's really up to you!

Gods and Kings is an expansion which overhauls the game with added features like religion in addition to the typical DLC stuff. It was also recently released which is why it's not as heavily disconted.

Keep in mind there will probably be other "GOTY" editions of Civ V in the future, so you'll always find a better deal later. I was one of the morons who bought the game day one for $50. So I've already lost more than you would if you just bought the game at $7.50!

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines is the new flash deal. $4.99

I'm a little surprised and admit I have no idea what to think about this.....

The coconut queen shit was funny for the first 20 or so pages... now its gotten worse than pretty much any other internet meme in recent memory.

My apologies, I recall seeing that very same video before in this thread. I may be wrong, but I've certainly seen it here within the last week or so.

Apparently, Desert Bus has quite the following here at CAG.
The coconut queen shit was funny for the first 20 or so pages... now its gotten worse than pretty much any other internet meme in recent memory.
Don't worry, we keep other games, including Railworks, Bad Rats, and Revelations 2012, around to keep things fresh.

Vampire: The Masquerade is tempting, but I have no idea when I'll get around to playing it. I put a couple of hours into it at a friend's (it wouldn't run on my system at release) but never finished and have wanted to go back. If nothing else it'd probably be fun to play as the type of vampire that can't communicate with others very well, sort of like really low intelligence in the early Fallouts.
Does the Burnout Paradise Pack include big surf island?
No. They stopped adding DLC for the PC version and basically said sucks for you. Whatever DLC is listed on the page is what you get and that's it. If you want BSI you have to get it on 360 or PS3.

That's why I sold my 360 version when I bought it on steam then rebought it on PS3.

edit: No matter what version you go with you should definitely buy it. I love it even with the frustrating development issues on the PC.

edit 2: I haven't tried it but there is this: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2609756 it unlocks some of the DLC but whatever they did not release (ie BSI) will never be seen on the PC. Make sure you read through the whole tread.
