Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V6! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

With the V6 Thread, we're trying a slight formatting change. We used to list every possible Steam deal in the OP, but they change too frequently for anyone to keep up with (even in the Wiki format). So now, we'll leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Winter sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 1/22

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

So I just got an email from Indiebundle.org about their new "Eat My Dust" bundle of racing games. The price is a little steep (for a bundle) and most of the games are Desura, which I know will turn some people off, but I like racing games so I think I may get it anyway.

http://indiebundle.org/racing-bundle/

For $5 you get:

Headlong Racing - DESURA/DRM FREE, Windows
Little Racers Street - DESURA/DRM FREE, Windows
Monster Minis Extreme Off-Road - DESURA/DRM FREE, Windows & Linux

at the $7+ level you also get:

Metal Drift - STEAM, Windows

Witcher 2: Enhanced Edition has been added to Onlive for $20.

It may seem like kind of a meh deal, but they are also giving a GOG DRM free downloadable copy with it. Might be nice for some people who say have a slower computer now but plan to upgrade at some point or even perhaps to try playing it on a Android tablet if you have a controller setup for it.

Onlive can be very YMMV in terms of connections but they do have an option to try it out first before you buy.

Hmm, thanks for the heads-up. If the reviews look half decent, I'll probably bite. Metal Drift was in Groupees' BM4.

So Dead Island was up for what, 5 minutes? That was fast.

Also wanted to weigh in on the new Indie Royale. Really getting tired of their bundles, and I'm a HUGE fan of Desura. The newest one is pretty downright aweful and was up around $6 last I checked.
NA locked keys. However, the game can be run from anywhere after activation.
Mine said NA ROW when I activated so I think it's both?

explains why raptr wouldn't load, lol, just received an email from them (already have it, was gonna give away to my wife's friend's kid)

Hoping the "Debut Bundle" in two weeks actually debuts some new games (from a bundle perspective)

Rejects from Humble Bundle Mojam 2 make their debut!

Oh, my bad. I can't activate it from Poland, so I thought they are NA only.

Anyway, in the registry entries you can see that their activation is blocked in several countries. I don't know if those keys are marked as (NA/ROW) or (NA+ROW), so I posted two links. Apparently, they have a bit different restrictions, but both of them, despite including Polish language pack, can't be activated from Poland. This is even more funny, because Techland, developer of the game, is a polish compny. Nice.

EDIT: I infer it's (NA+ROW) key, because (NA/ROW) doesn't have the DLC, so it should not be able to be activated from DE NO SE FI DK PT ES FR IT AT CH LU LI BE NL IE IM JE GS GB IS MT LV LT EE CZ HU PL SK BG GR RO SI HR TR.
Dead Island on Raptr started with 5000 keys and is already below 4000, move fast!
That's what I deserve for ignoring PC version for the Xbox one... that and a corrupted save which erased my chapter 3 progresses two times...
I liked flag collecting (in AC2/B/R). Collecting feathers in AC2 however was only for the pious (probably the same type who hunted down all 200 flying rats in GTA4),
Um, yeah, I did both.

Yes I believe it was the + one IIRC. I activated it via my phone on a virtual desktop (Teamviewer) so it was kind of tiny to see.

That's odd if they put regional restrictions on it.

If all else fails you could probably sell it.

First impressions on Sniper Elite Zombie Nazi Army or SEZNA for short - they have a cool twist to the difficulty levels. Easiest difficulty zombies die once you kill them. Middle zombies may resurrect depending on how you kill them, meaning have to smash the brain to bits to keep them down. Hardest difficulty implies zombies never actually die and you likely just incapacitate them long enough to move past but they might come back and swarm if you are not careful.

Also the zombies are a little more challenging in some ways that live enemies because they spot you quicker and come at you non stop once they do.
I was hoping it was more sim like racers. Amazon has a few cheap racers right now that look just as "good" lol... but they aren't on desura
I've heard some positive comments on rFactor and NK Pro Racing (which seems to be on sale for ~$6.50 today/tomorrow, was 15 euro last time I looked). There's also some F2P, SimRaceWay, that I've never poked with a stick(shifter).

Can't believe I missed Dead Island. What's the point in having the giveaway last for nearly a month when they ran out of keys so quickly?
has mark of the ninja been included in any bundles or been below $5?
It was in the Amazon MS bundle for 10 bucks that most people grabbed up with those EC coupons for 5 bucks. Since there were 5 games in that bundle it made the value of it roughly 2.00/1.00 depending.

You could get it along with Deadlight, Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet, Iron Brigade, and Toy Soldiers for $10 from Amazon a little while ago.

ahh ok thanks

I grabbed a dead island copy. Setted an alarm on my phone. The Raptr web is really awful on a phone. The funny thing is I had a meeting scheduled by the same time the giveaway was taking place. Luckily I manage to grab my copy seconds before we entered the meeting room :)
what type of game is it?
I know its an adventure game.
Is it an RPG, open world, ect...
When people generally call PC games adventure games, they generally mean of the point and click, story heavy variety.

Hmm well an adventure game is an adventure game. It's not really an RPG though you could think of some of them as RPG without the combat and stats (ie primarly the story and explorations portions of an RPG).

They describe it as a 3D adventure game. There is some point and click but you will be able to wander and do it in 3d instead of the typical still screen that a lot of adventure games use.

If you haven't played a lot of adventure games best thing I can say is try to get the old Longest Journey games. I'm trying to think of a modern equivalent and the best thing I can come up with is maybe the newest Sherlock Holmes game (Testament) although I have not actually played that one yet so I'm just basing that on information I've read and screenshots.

I guess LA Noire is kinda sorta kinda a modern adventure game too but I can't say I see a lot of parallels between it and The Longest Journey.

Ok thx Sounds like a game you just have to play to really know what it is so ill try out the older ones.

You might as well start with Adventure if you're going to do it right.

Tip: don't start with Adventure

It can get confusing because the word 'adventure' gets thrown around a lot. 'Action/Adventure' 'RPG/Adventure' 'Go on an amazing adventure' etc.

But saying something is an adventure game usually means story oriented game where you progressing by finding items, using them, talking to people etc. and using the mouse usually to click through all that.

Adventure games have always been popular in parts of Europe but in the US they were popular in the 80s and early 90s then seemed to fall out of favor for a while. Classic adventure games would be things like King's Quest, Maniac Mansion, Shadowgate, The 7th Guest and so forth.

I suspect most people over a certain age have played one of them at some point but may not even realize it.

For people who buy a lot of indie bundles chances are that you already have several adventure games as there have been quite a few of them in some of the bundles lately.

*Edit: Wrong Adventure. I was thinking the Atari 2600 one. But I remember text Adventures too and they were, um, interesting. :p

Oh god I remember that game Adventure. I loved it when I was a kid even though the character you play is literally a block cursor and the dragon looks like a 4 year old's scribble drawing of a duck.

BTW if we're talking really moldy oldy Adventure games, my favorite was Below the Root. It may sound silly to say from looking at it now but it really was very progressive for its time. I kind of wish someone would do a modern kickstarter reboot of it. It really was a cool game with an interesting story (based on a novel) and you could wander all over and do all sorts of things including glide between trees. :)

Is there any way to get a working PC version of Maniac Mansion? I bought it on clearance at Target as a kid and rage quite a million times before finally giving up. It was my first adventure game so I had no clue what I was supposed to be doing.

I haven't tried it personally, but supposedly it runs under DOSBox.

Mark of the Ninja typically goes for $3 in the trade thread, $2 sometimes.

The bundle is dead and gone and will likely never be around again until next January, if anything, so I wouldn't be surprised if it goes for a little more than $3.

I stumbled across this fantastic 18 month old post by a now-banned GAFfer giving a nice roundup of PC racing sims. Apparently the rFactor engine is at the heart of most SimBin stuff. Also I missed another free open-sauce sim, Racer.

Can't trust those banned people. Oh wait...

Thanks for the post. That looks really useful. I haven't played them extensively but I like the Simbin stuff at least on the more realistic end of racing games.
