Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V6! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

With the V6 Thread, we're trying a slight formatting change. We used to list every possible Steam deal in the OP, but they change too frequently for anyone to keep up with (even in the Wiki format). So now, we'll leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Winter sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 1/22

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

You may have picked up the wrong one, theres a non steam version too. If so, contact amazon CS to have them fix that for you

Are you sure you bought the right bundle? There are 2. One of them has Steam DRM while the other doesn't.

Yes, I did pick up the wrong one. The one I purchased said "Mixed DRM". I'm new to this. Thanks for the quick reply!

I wouldn't buy anything that is less than 75% off unless you plan on playing it by say... January, February at the latest, and that would have to be a newer game at 50%-66% off. Between all the indie bundles and Tony's amazing Amazon deals, the 50% for older games just doesn't cut it. I shot my wad a bit on the Summer sale and have regretted a couple purchases that were quickly reduced within a month or two.

Yeah you need this one and NOT this one.

I don't like the new system he has now. I liked the old one with the big yellow sign that was very clear about which one you were getting.

Just so you know, when you click that image, and copy the text from the address bar, it puts HTTP in front of the code when it's pasted into Steam even though it's not present in the address bar.
Do they typically only refund the order? Or can they simply change the order to the correct one for you?
They might. More typically CAGs report receiving a refund even when that's not what they asked for. With customer service it's usually easier to stick to the routine takes.

Also, you could try this for Chrome:

Got it :D Had to really crank up the adjustment though haha. I've never really had an issue with being color blind though.

I'm gonna have to buy seperate harddrive for steam soon....

Ya'll are sneaky. Didn't even realize a code was hidden there. I was just hungup on the fact I couldn't read the circle.

As the newb to this thread....I have an extra Borderlands 1 GotY steam code...dunno any hidden tricks to hide it...so first pm gets it.

Code is gone.

I prefer the Motoki Heated Discussion variety. The General Discussion is much too mild for my tastes.

Thanks, Starscream! You're my new favorite Transformer. I was just debating finally getting this a few days ago... which in Steam Thread Time translates to some 2000 posts ago in the previous thread.

Was there an episode with a crossover of the 5th & 10th doctor? I stopped watching about half-way through the first season of the 10th doctor because the new doctor who is so godawful. I might suck it up and watch that episode though if there's a chance of seeing the doctor of my childhood back in action.

It was some ten minute charity special. Funny enough David Tennant married Peter Davison's daughter.

There is not. David Tennant is married to Peter Davison's daughter (who played the Doctor's daughter in "The Doctor's Daughter"). I assume the picture has to do with that relationship or them getting together for something.

edit: Ah, Mooby explains it.

Also, you may want to give it another shot. I'm in the minority, but I was never a big fan of the Rose seasons. I think it got a lot better after them.

Because I'm way too lazy to devise a clever method of hiding it. It ain't Brazilian Sonic (Sonic getting a Brazilian?) but free is free.

That special makes me alternately laugh and tear up. Love all the crossovers; Matt Smith needs to do one! Disappointed with the morbid Titanic episode though that follows this special though.

The End, you should absolutely start watching the new fifth series on Netflix. Most of the Matt Smith episodes (until a rocky patch in series 6) are awesome.

Also, catching up on the thread... All those pages discussing the Sonic Generations code attempts were hella lame. You guys can do better than that. :p

Is there a different Doctor Who game on the PSN than this one that is on Steam?

Nope, that's the one. And for the record, as a fan of Doctor Who and videos games, I don't think it's worth playing.

Oh! Well then, I know what I need to hope goes on sale in a few days. Even if it's not so great, I'd still like to play it.

You like, co-op, right? I actually like the way it's handled. Unfortunately the stuff you do in the game isn't all that fun and it's probably the buggiest downloadable console game I've played. The latter part may have been fixed on the PC. Definitely wait for a sale.
If anyone hasn't heard of the trainwreck behind WarZ and is still considering buying the game, please read this interview. I hope Steam delists them before the sale starts.

Wow that was actually quite interesting to read. I knew there were some shady things going on with that game but to see that interview makes me want to stay FAR away from it.

Yeah I wasn't sure how many Doctor Who games there were but I remember that game being released on Steam not too long ago. In the past year I started watching the newer Doctor Who series and its been good in my opinion. Not sure if I'll pick up the Steam version but maybe if it drops below five dollars, even if its not the best.
I tried Eufloria but it was taken, so I tried Swords & Soldiers, also taken. FYI
Thanks for letting me know. I assume the rest are probably gone by now as well by tactless lurkers.

I don't care if people take them but might be nice to let me know so I can update the list so other people don't waste their time.

Kotaku ran a story about it too and there's a post as reddit with replies by some extremely disgruntled customers.

Apparently, Valve let one of the people who works for the War Z developer control the Steam forum for the game and he's running it like a gestapo.

Take a day off from following the threads to see the Hobbit and there's not only a new thread but 24 pages of a new thread in one day and the sale is still 2 days off.

I know its more work but you really open yourself up to steath grabs by posting them in the open, obviously. If it was me I'd say PM me if you want one of these games and do first come first served. Depends on if you feel the extra effort is worth it, I guess.
The Eternity Clock is really bad. Being a fan of DW, I got it on PSN day 1. I couldn't finish it because it was just that bad.

You like, co-op, right? I actually like the way it's handled. FWIW, I've read that there were numerous bug fixes when the PC port was created, so the Steam version should be better than the PSN one (and it's cheaper too). Is it still worth getting? If you're a giant DW nerd like me, it's pretty much a must-have, so I'm waiting for a discount during the Winter Sale (even a repeat of the 10% initial-listing discount would be enough for me).

Honestly none of the recent games or older games are worth spending significant quantities of money on. I've played all of the Adventure Games and they're great for the money I spent on the Amazon bundle that included them, although I basically bought it for the 5th game because I already had the older games from Gamersgate and Direct2drive. I was actually kinda tempted to get a copy of the PS3 Blu-ray of The Eternity Clock from a eBay seller as a collector's item, but because the game was apparently not that great, I decided against it.

Somebody suggested a while ago that BBC Interactive ought to make a Walking Dead-style DW game and the more I think about that the more epic it sounds. That's probably the best way that the property could be made into a compelling interactive experience.

Man, I need to go to bed.

Hm, maybe I'll avoid Jade Empire. I have a Win7 64-bit system with DX11, and I don't want to have to install DX9 just to get it to run. :(

EDIT: Woah! Hm, the Steam sales history tracker didn't list that price or I just didn't see it. Just goes to show that if you miss one minute on the Steam thread...
I bought it...I'd be playing right now, but I just started watching Game of Thrones (never really watched it before) and now I'm addicted and can't stop.
I read the first four books. I finished the first book and watched the first series on HBO and that was pretty enjoyable. But then I read the next two and started watching the second series and I just found that it wasn't as interesting. Now I feel like I may have to force myself to watch the rest of them at some point, but I don't know whether I will.

A Dance with Dragons is leering at me from my Kindle app, but I'm also somewhat disappointed in the fact that he decided to split the books into telling the stories of some of the major characters in one and some in another. It almost makes me want to wait until the sixth book comes out to read the fifth one, but that might be in 2016.
