Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V6! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

With the V6 Thread, we're trying a slight formatting change. We used to list every possible Steam deal in the OP, but they change too frequently for anyone to keep up with (even in the Wiki format). So now, we'll leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Winter sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 1/22

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
See, this is why my system works!

That was so much more satisfying coming out of the mouth of Rick Grimes.
"You think that pack is just a bunch of happy indie games looking to make a buck for their developers, put food on their tables, seemingly a good harmless deal. But one by one the indie-bundle roamers will pick them off, turning them, bundling them up, making their mind think of just one thing... YOUR WALLETS!"

Ehh, my genuine skepticism sounded more like him, huh? :)

*Edit: It's also been added to Gamersgate in the US under gamersgate.com. Previously you had to go to Gamersgate.co.uk to get it. Note that GG is listing the DRM of the individual parts as Securom.
That version should go DRM-FREE. :D
No point for Securom there anymore.

Let's hope Deep Silver has enough sense not to force that into the version they put on Steam too.
Absolutely agreed w/ your statement that I bolded - no need for Securom to be even in the Steam version PERIOD.
Also, a lot of their recent titles (Risen 2, Dead Island) are Steamworks-only - would only make sense to go the same route here for a re-release of Sacred 2: Gold - Steam Version.

EDIT:
I never really expected this so soon to get a USA re-release. This is a great surprise for me to hear! :D

EDIT 2:
I'll ask Aubrey Norris (of Deep Silver) about if they'd ever remove Securom DRM on Gamersgate version; AND if those (Securom) keys will ever be allowed to activate up on Steam.

Going to do the exact same thing tommorow with mine. Probably will pick up a $50 card, but unsure right now.

I would have done the same but at this point my priority is to be ordering parts for my PC over buying games I can't play until its done :)

So with this being my first sale, I'm trying to imagine how much money I'm going to blow.

How much did the rest of you spend on your first steam sale?

I have two parts I am waiting on then I can build it and play some of these games :D

Remember, with all the retailers out there that are also running sales and sites like Amazon that will price match, the best deals are not always going to be on Steam. I wouldn't load up on Steam Wallet cards, personally.

Just buy what's at a price that won't reasonably drop lower and that you want to play soon.

I've been through all of the Steam sales and don't believe I've ever dropped more than 40 to 50 bucks on one.

My greatest regret is picking up Dragon Age: Ultimate Edition for $25 in Winter 2010 and still having put only 5 hours into it. I thought I would tear into immediately and ended up being wrong.

That's an extremely small regret compared with a lot of other people on these boards. Just remember that there's a major sale every 3-4 months and there's only so many games you can play between now and then.

I'm really curious how much that Ubisoft bundle is going to be. I'm interested in a lot of the games in it and a lot were/are on my but list for this sale (Rayman Origins, AC Rev, Ghost Recon FS, M&M Heroes 6), having AC3 in it is can make it buy now if the price is $50.

BSB's Rules for Dating My Steam Sale.
Most you pay for any one game, $10. Be a TRUE cheapass!
I've broken that rule 5 times since I started using Steam.

Dragon Age: Origins - Ultimate Edition - For $10.20 - July 3, 2011
The Sims 3 - For $13.60 - July 6, 2011
The Sims 3 World Adventures - For $10.20 - July 6, 2011
The Sims 3 Late Night - For $13.60 - July 6, 2011
Saints Row: The Third Franchise Pack - For $13.29 - July 23, 2012

I've slightly regretted every one of them because I've yet to play any of them and they're all cheaper now. And Saints Row the 3rd has been in a freekin Humble Bundle. So yeah, no more games over $10 for me.

That was 36% man!! 36%!! I just, I can't even look at you right now!

Well Saint's Row Full Package hasn't been much cheaper, so assuming you care about the DLCs, the Franchise Pack was still well worth it.

I think that's probably just a localized address to satisfy Kickstarter rules -- they seem to be based in Croatia.
Well Saint's Row Full Package hasn't been much cheaper, so assuming you care about the DLCs, the Franchise Pack was still well worth it.
It has been cheaper - it was $10.19 at one point IIRC.

Yeah, and they're Sims games. All of them were heavily *ahem* "discounted" during the Origin Fall sale.

At least with SR3, I get some additional DLC for not much more than it has been recently. As jatan11 sort of pointed out.

Live & learn though. And it serves as a bit of a cautionary tale for any Steam Newbies who are about to go through their first big sale. It's OK to spend more than $10. But make sure it's a game that you want to play right away. Because unless it's Skyrim, it will be cheaper during the Summer sale.

So I booted up La Mulana since I got it off the Groupees bundle. I put my controller in, go to specify controls. They want you to specify more buttons than any normal controller has. How does one set up either a PS3 or 360 controller button wise?
It has been cheaper - it was $10.19 at one point IIRC.
I don't think it was ever $10, unless you're talking about the aussie price.
And since it's not on Steam or pretty much anywhere but Microsoft it NEVER GOES ON SALE except that like one time, ever.
That sucks lol. Should've been in that MS Store Flash sale. It's honestly a great game.
lol

That's it, I'm never trying a dropped key again. Thank god some poor sap got to it before I did.
Lmao. Who got it? For anyone wondering what game it was... Revelations 2012 hehe

Finally got Borderlands GOTY. Crossing my fingers for Chivalry: MW for under $10 :)

I don't know...$10 is kind of high. I typically stay in the $5 and under range unless something really jumps out as a great deal and must play now.

And if you're patient, and I mean like Mooby level patient, any game* will be $5 at some point even Skyrim. Oblivion is $5 today on Gamersgate.

*Games published by EA and certain Japanese publishers like Capcom who are chintzier with their sales and/or hate Valve are excluded

I'd love to see Super SF4: Arcade Ed hit $5 or less....
...even though, it probably ain't likely w/ Capcom.

Really? Mine just detected the (wireless) 360 controller as a 360 controller and I didn't have to do anything.

I always picture everyone in here acting like the rabbits from Rayman Raving Rabbits. Running around and all hell breaking lose with everyone screaming for before a big sale.

Grabbed Skyrim retail at $10 during that crazy Microsoft Store middle of the night sale. Also, buddy sold me a Borderlands 2 code he got with his graphics card for $5!

You shattered my image of you Mooby. I always thought you were an immoveable golem who waited eons for a $5 pricetag.

Actually though that Microsoft sale was nuts. I got Diablo III and Skylanders (don't judge!) on it. Would have gotten Skyrim but I already had it.

I paid $60 for it but I got the CE with the damned dragon statue so I'm justifying it.

Actually I did wait around for quite some time for the price on the CE to drop.
You overpaid!! Everything is free eventually!!!!
Eventually? It's always "free" at the Pie Rat Bay Outlet Store, and they get stuff pretty quick.

Price range is relative, though. $10 for something new-ish like Skyrim from a company like Bethesda seemed decent enough. I'm thinking it'll be another year before it hits $10 on a consistent basis. But $10 is just my extreme upper limit.

There's pretty much only one game on my Steam wishlist right now that I'd pay $10 for -- Dead Rising OTR which hit $10 during the Summer sale but I passed on. Knowing Capcom it probably won't hit $10 again. Other than that I don't see any individual purchases over $5 barring some miracle like an Amalur sale.

D3 is easily worth $10.
I got it for that during the TRU blowout.

I wish I got my hands on TSW during Microsoft Sale or GMG's recent $5 sale - since it's now "No subs."

Skyrim's EASILY worth $10.

No no no, that only happens when it gets to 10 minutes before the sale.

I own one Capcom game on the PC.

Lost Planet.

I got it for $5 in 2008. It was one of my first Steam purchases.

I still haven't played it.

Lost Planet is good. You should play it.

I'd like some quick feedback from regulars. Should I keep or drop the links to the other sale thread from my sig? (You'll need to scroll up a little)

It's really fascinating going back through your Steam purchase list. I remember the individual occasions for every game for several years.

Then the Humble Bundle appears.

Then a couple more Humble Bundles.

Then the number of games being added to the account gets insane.

It never really sank in that over half the games on my account are from indie bundles.

I find the more I spend on a game the faster I get around to it, whereas all these bundle games are stuck on the back burner forever, or will never be finished like AYIM. I hate that game so much. However I've been sticking to my $5 rule for 'AAA' games decently well, and slightly more for GOTYs.

Hoping Ubisoft decides to participate this sale unlike Autumn.

That is a gorgeous girl as your new avatar. I see the sex change went smoothly. Speaking of which.....what are you doing this weekend? Adams apples don't bother me.

For a long time I resisted adding indie fodder to my steam account in order to keep it pure and less cluttered. After I took the plunge it was still okay, now it looks like a teenager's bedroom.
