Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V6! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

With the V6 Thread, we're trying a slight formatting change. We used to list every possible Steam deal in the OP, but they change too frequently for anyone to keep up with (even in the Wiki format). So now, we'll leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Winter sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 1/22

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

The Telltale Collection looks to be the best publisher pack, and it isn't even advertised.
Thanks for posting this! I have been debating this pack for a few sales now.

Question though: How do I find it? I was able to find it using the link above, but if I search the store (website, client, and mobile client) for TellTale or collection, I do not get it in the results list. My guess is, there are a bunch of collections that are not within the 8 shown on the main page, and I cannot find a link to get to all publisher packs. Any help is appreciated.
If you go to the store page for any of the items in the pack, there's an entry on the page to buy the pack, or get pack info. This should work for any game in any pack - if it's included in a pack, that pack will be advertised on the game's store page.

Am I explaining this well? I don't feel like I am.
>=-75% or IWNB.
There's no way that Torchlight II will be 75% off. It's currently 25% off, and they never go from 25% to 75% on sales, usually flash/deal of the day stuff is double the base percent off only. I doubt you can even hope for a 66% off.

It'll probably be 50% off just like it was during the Thanksgiving sale. The deal will probably be identical to the Thanksgiving sale deal: 7.50 per copy if you do a 4 pack or $10 for 1 copy separately.
On the fence about buying I Am Alive. Been wanting it for a while but I can't help but want to wait for that 75%!
As you rightly should. It's not a bad price, but it's not like the price is going to go up on future sales. Given the "popularity" and reviews, it will hit 75% off or better at some point in 2013.

Thank you! I really appreciate the help. You explained it well enough for me to find it. Now to sit on the fence to see if it goes cheaper.

I Am Alive was alright.. I'd wait until a cheaper price if I were you. The thing that bothered me about it was the endurance bar. It dropped for EVERYTHING (climbing, running through the Dust etc) and the only way to get it back up was to eat (scarce) food.
I actually ended up having to use something I never really want to use (a trainer/cheat) because the game was about to make me lose @ 2 hours wort of work by stranding me on top of a building with not enough endurance to get back down.
I liked the game a lot more once I started using that trainer though.

I agree that it will almost certainly be $7.50 with a 4 pack SO PLEASE STEAM SALE NEWBS DO NOT BUY IT RIGHT NOW AT 25% OFF. That just hurts my soul.

$7.50 is not a bad deal at all but if someone really isn't going to play it right away it will be $5 eventually, but probably not until Summer. It doesn't seem like too many other DD stores sell it but I believe Gamersgate does so I suppose there's a chance for a deal there at some point too.
Oh look! It's that game a few of you were talking about earlier:
Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken: $1.75.

Also:
Lord of the Rings: War in the North: $3.50.

Anyone know if the 30% off is one per account or multi-use?

For some reason Valve isn't advertising all of their packs this sale. I went to the big list of all games on Steam, and filtered by packs, then started at the most expensive and worked my way back down. The results of that search are here.

Is TL2 any good? I bought it on release when you got TL1 with it (dunno if you still do or not).

I really should play it...but I dumped like 1300 hours into Diablo 3 since launch and am kinda burned out on the genre right now (although I'm playing D3 as we speak....)

A. Cash difference between 66% and 75% off is about $1.34.
B. Are you gonna play it now or soon, or is it going in the backlog?
C. Do you care about supporting the developer/publisher?

That's my calculus right now. And B is putting me off the purchase.

I don't like the camera angle, the UI, and a few other things. Plus I really wish it supported controllers like TL on XBLA.

It is still quite good.

It's a very good game for what it is but it's very Diablo-esque just more lighthearted in tone. If you are burnt out on that genre right now I would say play something else and then come back to it later.

I think part of what has happened, for me at least, is that GMG, Amazon, GG, and a few others have spent weeks leading up to this point just killing on the sales. And Steam doesn't seem to be stepping up to the plate to match their deals... so far.

I'd like to believe that part of it is I own a bunch of Steam games and the sales look familiar, but it's really more than that. For instance, the insertion of general software and DLC into Daily/Flash deals have watered down the selection. Lackluster pricing / deals that have been equaled or bettered already as "feature" deals haven't helped either.

It's still way early, but they haven't exactly come screaming out of the gates in my eyes.

You're a mensch!

Another thought: I don't think Torchlight 2 will go lower than 50% until after the Steam Workshop update for it is implemented. They basically always do a sale when Steam Workshop is added to a game, and I can't see it being a 75% off sale.

I wish I could work it out so easily. I'm pretty impulsive when it comes to what games I want to play. For example, I didn't have any plans to play Saints Row until I had insomnia one night and beat the game in one playthrough.

My main concern is "Am I going to be entertained or frustrated by this game?"
What are people's opinions on the Introversion Bundle and Dungeons of Dredmor? I started buying PC games earlier this year and wasn't around for the Humble Introversion Bundle, and figure these games won't get bundled again.
The Introversion bundle is decent but you might want to do some research to see the games are your thing. I've tried numerous times to get into Uplink and couldn't, while Defcon was fun with a friend but that was kinda it. Darwinia looks nice but the demo didn't grab me and say "YOU MUST PLAY ME NOW". If there's demos of some/all of them, I'd give them a try. No point in buying just for the sake of it.

Dungeons of Dredmor is pretty smart, I like it quite a lot. I tend to play it in bursts, and haven't completed it yet ( I usually die around 3-4 levels in ) but by all accounts it's a nice entry point into the Roguelike genre.

The DLC is cheap and funny, also. It adds new "traits", some of which are ridiculous - vegan? Emo? Pirate? All are represented.

I would expect it to be very "Diablo-esque" as most of the D2 team have done the Torchlight series. I'll probably hold off playing it...need to find something to pique my interest though...Borderlands 2 hasn't given me that addiction and I've simply played too much Dark Souls on the PS3 to want to dump more time into it on PC :(

Have you tried Dishonored? It's the first game I've been seriously hooked on in a long time.

This is exactly what happens with me too. I also tend to try out everything for a bit when I buy it rather than just toss it in the backlog. Sometimes I end up liking it a lot and I'll drop whatever else I'm playing and just finish that instead.

Picked up the Monkey Island bundle and Scribblenauts last night. Kind of disappointed the Forge got the community vote, but bring on the new daily deals!

I have a slight, slim sliver of hope in my heart that Valve will rotate the discount on those publisher packs. So while the THQ pack is 50% off today, maybe after 10am the Square Enix pack or the Ubisoft pack will be 50% off as a kind of "daily publisher pack" deal. I can dream, right?
Have you tried Dishonored? It's the first game I've been seriously hooked on in a long time.
I haven't played Dishonored. Been watching it. Will probably pick it up if it drops to $30. I think it was somewhere earlier this week for that price, but I skipped out on it.

Wait for better than $30. I got it from MS for $25, so I would expect that price point again if not better.

Thanks. Time to go shopping! [/Killing Floor]
Have you tried Dishonored? It's the first game I've been seriously hooked on in a long time.
Dishonored is one I hope to get during this sale. My surprise addicting game this year is XCOM Enemy Unknown - never saw it coming and had to remove it from my PC so i could play other games.
Have you tried Dishonored? It's the first game I've been seriously hooked on in a long time.
I was disappointed and frustrated with Dishonored. I'm not saying it's a bad game, but I bought it for the stealth and coming off Hitman, the stealth in Dishonored sucks, I feel. I gave up and bought Far Cry 3, will go back to Dis. later.

I also didn't like that if you die it reloads the last save and you lose any side progress you may have made such as collecting items or ammo or whatever. A lot of games will reset the mission you're on but keep your collectible progress. I found this really frustrating, at least it allows quicksaves but I don't always remember to use them.

Haha, I never knew there was a game in the Divinity series called "Divine Divinity." I hope this title was created tongue-in-cheek. Maybe Dishonored's sequel can be "Dishonorable Dishonor."

New deals up.

Divinity Series
Orcs Must Die Series
Torchlight Series

So I own Divinity 2, OMD 1&2 and Torchlight 1&2

Well waiting till Dailies start
Haha, I never knew there was a game in the Divinity series called "Divine Divinity." I hope this title was created tongue-in-cheek. Maybe Dishonored's sequel can be "Dishonorable Dishonor."
Actually, I believe Divine Divinity (the first game in the series) is the best of all of them. The pack is a good price, but $2.99 for the first game is a steal. Unless of course you got it from GOG a few months back for $0.01.

Orcs Must Die! is a great series. Was a mistake playing it right after Borderlands, though—weren't there any other damned voice actors?!

Meh, that "Community's Choice" isn't a choice at all. Half-Life 2, Bioshock, and GTA:VC have all been on sale a bajillion times. I own them all. I imagine everyone owns them all.

So which one do I vote for?

Meh. I guess I'll just pick the one I think is the best game... Bioshock again...
Torchlight II for %50 off is a flash deal.
It's been cheaper, unfortunately.

Orcs Must Die Franchise for 75% off seems to be one of the better deals so far.

HL2, BioShock, Vice City Community Vote Deals?? Really Valve??? Beating dead horses?
Kind of disappointed the Forge got the community vote, but bring on the new daily deals!

Yeah I mean there's one indie game that I know is good and another that looks interesting and yet the unwashed masses pick the generic MMO. Good one.
I have a friend looking for Torchlight 2, I think I'll recommend he wait for a daily deal in case it's a little cheaper.
It was that price for the Fall sale last month and it's a fairly recent game still. I think that price is the end of the line for now.

I don't think we'll see 75% off until 2013. Also I don't think the Flash deals generally tend to get undercut later with a daily. I think that's just the lowest it will go.

4 pack is not a bad idea though. Cuts another $2.50 off.

If Bioshock wins, I'll at least buy a copy for my girlfriend's laptop. I've already got three copies of Vice City, and two copies of Half-Life 2.

It has? I bought it when it was a daily during the last big sale and it was only 50% off then too.

But it's already $2.50 ($4.99 for 1 & 2) on Amazon.

I haven't touched Hitman yet. I still need to finish Blood Money before I can allow myself to move onto Absolution.

The Stealth in Dishonored just comes down to Dark Vision and Blink for me. Dark Vision to spot them, Blink to reach them, choke out and hide the body. I more love it for the immersion of the world and the characters. Although I try to stealth, I'm not above grabbing my pistol and mowing people down when I get caught, so it just doesn't effect me as badly as it might bother someone going purely for stealth.

Also, I feel like Dishonored gives you opportunities to play intelligently or recklessly and still have success. If I was a more patient person, I could get through without killing anyone, but I'm not, so occasionally I have to knife someone in the throat, but I still find meaningful progression in the level.
But it's already $2.50 ($4.99 for 1 & 2) on Amazon.
Exactly - this community choice thing is retarded and only goes to expose the "heard" mentality. If Bioshock 1 goes 75% off, it'll be $4.99 - the same price you can pay right now on Amazon to have both Bioshock 1 and 2 as Steam redeemable codes.

How much is Devil May Cry 4 on the GMG US store? It's showing as £1.69 for me, or £1.18 with the coupon. That's ridiculous. I don't even want it and I'm buying it.
