Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V6! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

With the V6 Thread, we're trying a slight formatting change. We used to list every possible Steam deal in the OP, but they change too frequently for anyone to keep up with (even in the Wiki format). So now, we'll leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Winter sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 1/22

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

This is an odd Easter egg. (Christmas egg?)

Mirrors Edge is fine on Win 7 or Win 8 for that matter.

If you aren't sure about a game then just check the Steam forums, though you probably need to check the old ones as well as the new ones since the community ones don't have a long history. Anyway search there for Windows 7 but generally if there's a huge issue with it you will see lots of complaints on the first page.

On Ys they are different games in some ways. Oath is more a 'typical Ys game'. Origins I find to be a bit more story driven. You only go through one location but there are multple characters and you get different perspectives on the story from the different characters.

I like them both honestly. It's hard for me to say just get one or the other. Like I said before I think my preference leans slightly to Origin but I think part of that is nostalgia because it's a prequel to the old Ys Book I&II which I loved so much years ago. Oath doesn't tie into Ys I&II as much except for having the same main character.

Good call. I know people are probably sick of seeing it on sale, but most of my friends still haven't played it. I ignored it when it first came out, and just went through the entire game earlier this year. I was worried that, even as a classic, it would be too outdated to stay relevant in 2012, but I was thankfully wrong! The dialogue is charming and quirky, and although the gameplay was quite easy most of the time, I played through most of the game with a smile on my face. It was a good after-dinner mint after a weighty playthrough of Spec Ops: The Line.

Just started it a few days and had the opposite reaction, thought it looked really dated. The dialog was pretty good though.

Loved Ys Origin (still haven't played through will all the characters as of yet), picked up Ys Felghana. Hopefully Total War Shogun 2 will drop in price.

Steam Sale Tally -3.74

Thanks for the heads up - At $3.74, I'm seriously considering Oath in Felghana.

I would like to know how truly fun it is, particularly in regards to leveling.

The only times in that game where I consciously tried to level was when I got spanked by a boss. Otherwise I just kind of go with the game.

I've never bought a bundle from steam before, I want to buy the dawn of war franchise bundle, but already own DoW GotY, DoW II and expansions. Will the bundle give me one key for all or a few separate keys? I'm assuming one key, but thought I might ask first.

They are all bundled together so you'll lose out on extra copies of those.

You will not get extra copies if you already own stuff in the pack.

I'm certain you won't get extra copies of the games you already have. There have only been a few instances where you get extras, and it usually states that you will on the store page.

Bundles bought from Steam come together, you can't split the games.

In addition to what the others said, as that pack is only 50% off currently and not part of a flash or daily deal there's a relatively decent possibility that it may end up 75% off for $10 at some point during the sale.

I had at first wondered if the pricing on that pack was a mistake but it's been up for over 24 hours and not corrected so it doesn't not seem to be a mistake.

Thanks for the input. I've been in the mood for a nice RPG lately. However, I don't know if I want an Action RPG, like Ys Oath in Felghana, or something turn-based with choices in regards to upgrading.

Nevertheless, I am going to debate a game priced at $3.74.

I just noticed something.

If you want more of a turn based RPG with a party Drakensang: The River of Time is good and is 75% off at $4.99 but there's no rush on that since it will be that price for the duration of the sale.

Ys is much more an action hack and slash than an RPG with some of the most elaborate bosses out there. You'll forget levels and numbers quite fast. Hell, the best post-game unlock is a boss time attack mode which just sets you against the boss with appropriate level and gear.

That said, it IS possible to show up to a boss underleveled but enemies get chopped down fast and you can pop back into a level to top off your level if you think you aren't doing what you should.

The only major trick in Oath is something that snagged me TWICE: Do not fight the second boss without picking up the ruby first. That's not especially hidden but I was dumb and missed it twice and you'll have no idea why the game expects you to win without it until you realize what you were missing.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but there is a neat fast travel feature in this game. It's not called out well (at least for me), so keep an eye open for the prompt. Figured I'd save some of you time :) I haven't beaten it, but it has been fun to play. I need to get back to it sometime.

Don't wait ;)

Get it now in a group buy!

Yeah well us PC gamers are also kind of ghettoized to a couple of threads while the console people have the whole rest of the board to spread out in.

That and they seem to be holding onto physical disc media for dear life and view digital downloads for junky little games that no one wants to pay $1 for.

I think it's because we're more open to discussing ridiculous stuff. Those Xbox guys are like "lol wut these grafx r like from 2009, whers the assult rifle" and we're all "fuck yes Mission Runway Coconut Queen Bad Rats crossover! BUY ALL THE CHEAP GAMES"

Which reminds me, I totally need to make a Mission Runway model to be all tropicaled out to look like Liz from Coconut Queen.
The American part.

I'm considering picking it up on PS3, as I have some credit there and it's $9.89 for plus members.
I just picked it up pn PS3 with + pricing. It works well there in the game room and since the controllers are already in place, multi-player is easy to pick up and go.

:applause:

Ooh, this description makes the Ys games much more attractive to me. The only Ys I played was the 3rd game on SNES, which I did feel skewed toward grindiness. If I were to only invest my time in on one Ys game, should I get Origin or Oath?

Finally picked up the Ys games. I don't know when I will get around to them since I'm currently playing KOA: R.

edit: I'm extremely disappointed that Revelations 2012 removed the dance key. Since I'm terrible at FPS I at least like to run around dancing while I'm mauled by waves of Mayans.
I want that Family Gaming Pack. I don't think I can buy it for myself though. Too much shame.
I can't decide which is more shameful, buying it: or owning it.

I've just played Revelations 2012 for the first time ever. Quite frankly, I'm disgusted. Astonished. Taken aback. Appalled. Flabbergasted. Stunned. Speechless. Mortified. Petrified. Stupified.

I actually enjoyed it.
Hey, thanks for the heads-up on the Ys games, everyone! I would have kicked myself for missing out.
^_^ It's the best thing I like about this thread. Pointing out and recommending titles that would have escaped notice.

I'd point out that you can pickup Drakensang Complete: Original + River of Time + Phileasson's Secret for $10 on fleaBay. I did. The Special Plastic Edition (retail) is DRM-Free.
I should just wait for Torchlight II to get to $4.99. Someone tell me to wait.
You should not wait. Try to get it for $7.50 in a 4-pack. Steam group buy thread is here. If not it's well worth $10 (and I feel worth full (low) price of $20).

Nice graphic! Digital distribution has really helped us as a community to branch out into all sorts of genres. (As it did with music.)
