Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V6! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

With the V6 Thread, we're trying a slight formatting change. We used to list every possible Steam deal in the OP, but they change too frequently for anyone to keep up with (even in the Wiki format). So now, we'll leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Winter sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 1/22

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
FYI, the official RWS website no longer sells Postal 3 and their forum section for Postal 3 calls it "Akella's POSTAL Spin off! Here for discussion about the Akella's dodgy POSTAL spin off (Also known as POSTAL III in Russia and on Steam)."

So even the Postal guys hate it.
I heard about the hoopla.

But I own WarZ so I obviously have no morals as a gamer.

Standards. No standards.

No, I have standards. Why do you think I think that Longest Journey crap needs to stay off of Steam.
I don't really want it, it looks awful and I'm sure I won't play it.

All that being said, there's still a voice inside of me going 'It's cheap! Buy it!'. Ugh.
It's in my head too.....it will get me tonight after about 6 drinks.

But, it's on steam! :D

The only thing stopping me from grabbing Postal 3 for $3 is that I haven't played Postal 2 which I do have. I have a morbid curiosity with games like that and Flatout 3, waiting for their inclusion in bundles though.
Just a note but SteamGifts has taken a hard stance against giving away Dead Island keys in the past and I believe they have stated that the Raptr giveaway does not change their stance. Just thought people might want to know if they're worried about a potential ban or punishment.

Recent announcement:

I am not too worried about it. If they want to ban me for helping out you guys, I'll just switch to dropping codes in the forum/pms here (half of the time I do that anyway).

Thanks for pointing this out. Off to get my own key.

Don't forget the siren song of achievements!

EDIT: I was actually offended by Postal 2 using cats as gun silencers, but unlike most people here I'm a cat person. The HIV+ monkey thing sounds pretty terrible too.

Make sure they haven't been beaten by slim jims before you buy.

I've purposely refrained from giving RWS money for Postal 2 for that exact reason. (Then Groupees went and snuck it in on me.)

At this price, I'll have to check out how "edgy" this iteration is. The gameplay I've seen looks entertainingly awful.

Thank you very much for that. Quick & easy.

The irony to me is taking offense to the animal being killed, and not the human at the other end of the barrel!

I'm not passing judgment or trying to belittle your opinion. I'm a dog person and hearing about any animal abuse makes me sick, but in the pixel world I keep things in perspective.

A very underrated game. The physics engine is were that game shines.
I mean what other game has a physics engine that uses all 3 planes (x,y,z) even though the game only uses 2 (X,Y)!

You should have put that in spoiler tags; Every person needs to feel that unnecessary frustration the first time he or she watches the ball roll off the immediate playing field.

Where is The End's signature quote when you need it? ;)

But nah, I don't get too offended by stuff in a game. I get more offended by bad games.

That said, I can't imagine the Postal games are much worse than dancing badly while Mayan torsos come crawling at you.

Too bad Rev2012 removed the dancing for no reason at all. That knocks the score down a point or two to me.

You didn't hear? They patched it back in shortly after and there was much rejoicing
by myself and the 3 other people who actually give a shit about it
.

I don't know what the hell they were thinking by taking the dancing out. It's like they were trying to make the game respectable or something. The nerve!

I had not heard that. Sounds like I need to go back and play some more. :D
"*your link*/signature.png" is the location of the image for every giveaway, thanks to their algorithm. Add that to any giveaway and you get the image for it, then you hyperlink your url. So something like this:

Thanks for the giveaway, by the way. It's funny how it's still listed as a Steam group and we can still give away games, even though the CAG group was removed. Oh well, no more inviting members who aren't CAGs, at least. Get feeling better soon!
Almost forgot to thank you for this this morning, Blade. I am mostly feeling better, but this cold has been a great excuse to get to work on beating that backlog.

Hahaha, that makes my day; It's good to know I can still break out into dance, despite the absolute chaos that surrounds me.

If y'all haven't heard...
$2 million stretch goal for Dreamfall Chapters revealed on their Kickstarter:
They are making plans for a true-blue TLJ2 w/ April Ryan called The Longest Journey Home.

More details on TLJ Home here.
Simply put -> TLJ Home = 2D style point-and-click adventure game w/ April Ryan as the star; & a true-blue sequel to the original TLJ (that will fill in the 10 year gap b/t TLJ1 and Dreamfall).

New Rochard DLC is available. Hard Times, 4 new levels to address player concerns over the ease of the original game.

I'll definitely pick this up at 50% off or more. Currently $1.99 btw.

That's kind of bizarre.

Rochard wasn't even a disgustingly easy game or anything.

Really don't understand who they made that for.
What do you think of Bad Rats?
Rat-on-cat violence doesn't bother me too much.
The irony to me is taking offense to the animal being killed, and not the human at the other end of the barrel!

Hm. Don't get me started on humans; I have a long list of them that should be spayed. Well, not literally-that would be scary. ;)
Hmm... that's the thing. I started off with a pretty typical human army. Very quickly, I found the game was getting harder and I was losing a mass amount of troops every battle, even if I won. I played around with animals mixed in, but still didn't do much better (especially once I hit the missions where you're fighting werewolf elves). I switched to a full undead army and suddenly had massive success.

Unfortunately, places where you can buy undead troops are few and far between, and even the graveyard runs out of stock of good undeads (like vampires) very quickly. The game is set up so that you'll build an army, run out of troops to buy for that army type, and be forced to move on to a new army.

After undead was no longer an option, I switched to thieves since I had a thief wife, and used them all through the Freedom Islands (I think that's what the place was called). When I ran out of thieves, I switched to a dwarven army (had massive success with these guys), then an elven army (once I got to the elven area, did very well with these guys too), and finally I'm using a full demon army, with a demon wife. At this point my army is pretty much unstoppable, and I had zero problems with difficulty last time I played.

Really, the game isn't very easy. It takes careful forethought to set up your army, your equipment, and even your wife and children to bolster your strengths and weaknesses. You really can't get complacent, you HAVE to get over the sentiment towards your army, throw them all away, and start fresh, over and over.
Very good advice :applause:
For as many bundles as it's been in, you wouldn't expect the game to be that spectacular. Honestly, it's one of the few games in my life that I've sunk over a hundred hours into doing EVERYTHING (and I still haven't beaten the first game), with another few hundred to come.
Definitely, those games are huge time sinks! I have been playing legend for 102 hours and still have lots of stuff to do.
Hahaha, that makes my day; It's good to know I can still break out into dance, despite the absolute chaos that surrounds me.
I like to break some Gangnam style in the middle of TSW occasionally.
Who ever suggested the Logitech 500- Thank you. I wasn't aware that using a better mouse could make that much of a difference.
It is an awesome mouse. I just picked a new one from the Amazon sale myself.

Have been using mine for a few years and have nothing but good things to say about it. Except for when I didn't realize you could lock and unlock the fluidity of your scroll wheel. But that was on me.

Razer Mamba 4 lyf.

...

Actually, no. When my Mamba dies, I'm buying something cheaper. A lot cheaper. I love it, but for expensive it was, I wanted solid gold trim.
Super House of Dead Ninjas patched in controller support a few hours ago if anyone was waiting for it.
Good. I can't play that style of game with keyboard controls.
I still find it funny that I'm one of the only PC gamers that uses a controller for any game that supports one.
You use a controller for FPS games if they support a controller? :error:

you're not

i don't even buy games that don't support controllers

I always view the people that prefer controllers over keyboard/mouse to have tried it once and gave up on it thinking it was too difficult. It has a steep learning curve, but if you keep at it, you may find that you actually prefer KB/M over a controller.

Yeah, this. You would have laughed at me playing MW3 multiplayer with KB/M the first time.

To be fair, that has nothing to do with your difficulty with the controls. I'd laugh at you for playing MW3 in general.

I tried playing Counter-Strike with a controller. Lol...

BURN! But sadly, it's true. I have some odd 500 hours in MW3 and I'm ashamed of every last one of them.

Every time I turn it on, all the players float around aimlessly and have infinite ammo. I lost interest because of the hacking.

Blops 2, on the other hand... Good shit.

I personally prefer a controller most of the time, because I spend enough time hunched over the keyboard. When I'm gaming, I often want to kick back. I've put enough grrl-years gaming on the KB/M even excluding my isty bitsy WoW addictyears. I usually play FPS (not a big FPS fan though) with KB/M, though my 78 BL2 hours are mostly on controller solely. Certain genres I am unlikely to play unless it has controller support, including: Racing Games, Platformers, Shumps, ARPGs (notably excluding Diablo-likes), fighting games.
