Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V7! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

Since the V6 thread, we've decided to leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Summer sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 5/20

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

As much as some dailies/weekend deals have sucked, this week long and variety of sales is a big step in the right direction for Steam. Hopefully the summer sale incorporates more of this variety in sales.

It's actually not awful.

It just throws all its good ideas at the last 20 minutes of the game, implements them poorly, and has a dreadful final boss.

Actually it's sort of awful.

Kind of neat though.

I guess.

If you're feeling guilty about your backlog.

I remember buying the disc for Robin Hood. It's sorta like Commandos as a RTS. I still have it somewhere, maybe I should buy it on steam for nostalgia.

BTW the steam gameplay video looks strange to me. It's too dark and the screenshots look more correct, but I remember it still hard to see what's going on sometimes.
well Driver Fusion has achievements...I'm done:wall:
... wait, what?

First Visual Studio adds achievements, now this? Agh.

In other more on-topicky topics, I'm interested in the current Indie Royale but I already own every game on that bundle -except- Primal Fears, AS2 Conscription and Lucius... and I've heard that Lucius is an awful, AWFUL "adventure" game.

So I get the joke about the frequency of Magicka sales. However I have never played it and i cannot tell if anyone likes it or just hate on the sale. Is it any good? Worth picking up at current sale and or DLC?
Dammit! I missed the Xcom deal by minutes! I wanted that game pretty badly
it will be $10 on amazon later this month, so don't feel to bad;)

I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. Multi-player is really fun, and the magic system can reach QWOP levels of hilarity at times (acciddently casting spells on yourself or friends instead of monsters, etc)

It's also been in Indie Gala so you could easily pick it up for less than $2.49 if you look in the trading thread.

I played a little bit of it and it was not bad at all, but it was in an indie bundle recently so you might find it for cheaper in the trade thread.

Never really wanted Magicka. I think it was great idea and the spell mechanics were very cool but after playing the demo the controls felt awkward. Spell selection was better with M+K but movement was better with a controller.

So just noticed that there was two coupons in my inventory. Anyone want 50% off Duke Nukem 3d? Or 75% off Total War Shogun 2? I will give them to you just let me know

*Edit*
Showgun 2 Coupon is gone!

I want to love Magicka. I do. It's got a great premise, some cool ideas, is funny, and coop is mostly of fun. That said, the control scheme is horrible. KB+M, Gamepad, Razer Naga - none helped. After trying multiple times in multiple setups I could not get comfortable with the controls. A shame really. Maybe I will give it another shot when someone wants to play coop, but otherwise it's not happening.

TLDR: Game could be awesome if the controls weren't complete shit.

If you can find a friend to play through it with and voice chat and troll each other with the quirky/fucked up spell system you'll have a blast.

Can't imagine playing it single-player, though.

Yeah, I think this is why I gave up on it after a couple hours too. Also, its optimization is pretty shitty.

Magicka was fun, especially co-op. I had little trouble getting adapted to the controls (maybe because I had my emulators setup on weird funky control schemes for 10+ years now -_-)
When can we A) expect the spring sale and B) get some 75% off action on DmC?
There isn't a traditional "spring sale." Sometime there are lengthy promotions in the Spring, like the Indie sale at the end of March. But the next definite sale is the Summer Sale.

DmC... I wouldn't hold your breath for that happening any time soon. CapCom is not great at discounting their digital releases.
When can we A) expect the spring sale and B) get some 75% off action on DmC?
There was a dude selling DMC for $13 I think on the trade forums, that's 75% off it's $50 pricetag on Steam right now. He might still have some copies available. I can check who it was later on.
There was some discussion, and then argument because some people need to grow the hell up. It's a shame the mods came in so heavy-handed with their deletions and got rid of a decent amount of interesting content along with the bickering.
Actually, I'm the one who asked the mods to delete the little argument. Naturally they deleted it... and everything else. Sorry about that.

I enjoyed Magika single player. I finished the campaign in the base game.... as much as I prefer controllers... play with KB/M... you can't do spell casting at speed on a controller. Also **** the DLC.

And yet they had Operation Raccoon City and all its DLC for like fourteen bucks a few weeks back.

He doesn't and he's not getting anymore, I checked a couple of days ago.

They may be failing as a company. but they are not stupid. They still know which games are good, and which are crap.

They had a similar price on PSN.

I don't see $14 for a year old game as all that great.

They had some pretty decent sales recently if I remember on Resident Evil 5 -75% off and a couple other games cheap as well. My memory is clouded in a thick glaze of bong smoke from when I was a kid and the names to every unique item in Diablo 2 so I can't remember specifics.

I will trade you a one-hitter for a set of Saigon's.

Phew, it's been a busy half a week. This thread is my favorite distraction. Glad to be caught up at last.
The Book and Unwritten Tales and its prequel Critter Chronicles are both 75% off at $4.99. Not a bad deal if you like adventure games.

Most of the other stuff is meh though as far as I am concerned.

Thanks for pointing this out Motoki. I enjoyed Book of Unwritten Tales so will be picking up the prequel.
My thoughts exactly. Oh, except that I haven't actually played the first one yet. But yeah, thanks for pointing it out, going to buy the prequel, etc.

Capcom seemed to do a lot in the last Christmas sale. I remember because I kept asking myself, "Why is Capcom of all companies the only one really taking the sale seriously?"

I haven't seen a lot of talk about this online - and people always wonder why I want the Steam versions of Ubisoft games, so I thought I'd leave this here:

http://www.richardkaemmerer.de/2013...-uplay-launcher-with-steams-big-picture-mode/

TLDR: You can essentially 'bypass' the uplay launcher with these launch options:

-uplay_dev_mode -uplay_dev_mode_auto_play -uplay_dev_mode_auto_quit

Uplay still launches, and you'll have to launch normally the first time you boot the game - but after that it launches for like two seconds, and you're in game. When you quit the game uplay auto-exits and goes back to Steam. Works great for those of us who use Big Picture almost exclusively. So there that's why I'm always looking for Steam versions of Uplay games. Last game I personally tested was Blood Dragon, which works just fine with this method.

Edit: There is no patching of exes or any funny work here. Just launch options.

I'd so get this but I haven't even played the.first yet lol. Still tempted though as heard.its.good, just not as good as the first.

But, but, Star Trek robes! What about the Star Trek robes!

Kidding! ;-)

There actually are a few content DLC but there's so much shlock that they make it a PITA to fish out the ones that actually do add new areas from all the cosmetic nonsense.

Of course this is where I plug Jshackles' Enhanced Steam plugin which has crowd sourced categorization of DLC.

Daily Deal:

Midweek Madness:
http://store.indiegala.com/
Tower Wars is on sale for as low as $1.99 with Gala Points at the Gala Store. Likely bundle fodder, but I heard good things about it. Is this the cheapest it has been?
$1.99 is certainly the cheapest it's been, but like you said it might be headed to a bundle soon, especially since they're now selling keys through the Gala Store. I played the beta and it's a pretty decent tower defense game.

Humble Bundle added all the prototypes from amnesia fortnight to the current Humble Bundle, so it looks like we won't be getting The Cave or Iron Brigade.
