Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V7! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

Since the V6 thread, we've decided to leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Summer sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 5/20

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

I think GTA5 should be. Looks amazing.
{drools}

We really need a PC port of this.

Michael seems to bring back some of that Tommy Vicetti (Vice City) type of style;
Franklin's story looks like it'll take me back to CJ and San Andreas;
and I'm thinking Trevor looks to be on the more outlandish side to try and bring back some of the old GTA insanity and also involve The Lost biker gang.

Hold on, while I drool some more....

That reminds me, I still haven't played EFLC... (even though I own it steam and non-steam...)

From EFLC, I've played & finished Ballad of Gay Tony - which I thought was excellent. That's how DLC's should be done, honestly.
I really should take on The Lost & The Damned sometime, before and if GTA5 PC drops...
Ground combat isn't that great, but its still a really good game IMO and worth grabbing just for the space battles.
I second this. If anyone is interested in the game I would say it is worth picking up.

Keep in mind both Battlefront 2 and Empire at War are out of keys. If you buy them now, you can't play either of them until keys are resupplied. And by not play them.. I mean just that, you can't launch the game.

I think they ran out of keys on Saturday. Some people were able to get keys on Thursday/Friday.
theres only room for one spoderman here
And I assume that room is for the person named "spoderman", right? ;)

Blah, they never said if the BL2 shift key was for Cinco de Mayo, or Carl Marx's birthday

And the real spoder isn't a console peasant... go play with ur snake.
GTA Complete $12.50 was like last weekend or the weekend before.... It'll hit that price on the Steam Summer sale, ~4 July (give or take a couple weeks)
Okay, yeah, I remember now. I guess I'll just get my GTA IV fix on Xbox 360 and wait for San Andreas to go on sale for the PC. I have it for the original Xbox but I want a better resolution and a further draw distance and stuff.

I don't want a port. Not after the disgrace that is GTA IV on the PC and the way it runs. I want a straight-up non-port, like Max Payne 3.

Thanks for the replies everybody. I decided to go with the kotor games and empire at war. I'll wait in hopes the Jedi collection goes on sale this summer.

Ouch, was just reading the user reviews for the new HOMM expansion and it sounds like its launch has been another DRM clusterfuck. I think at the rate they're going I'll wait until the complete pack is released and discounted, and then see if it's even playable, or still riddled with bugs. I don't have any overriding urge to support developers and publishers putting out this kind of product when I have so many great games in my backlog.

Best deal on Receiver is through Steam at 20% for the next 2 hours. You might find trades at $3 or 2 TF2 keys. I have no comment on the content.

I'm with you. I've actually held off on playing HOMMVI until now, I think I can wait a bit longer.
Sarcasm?
No I'm serious I was just hoping either this magicka would be on sale. Now hydrophobia would have made my week though.
The console of BL tanked in price insanely quickly. Just wait. You've waited this long.
Yeah.. I remember all of the clearanced $2 copies of Brutal Legend at Sears. Shouldn't take much longer for BL to reach dirt cheap prices on PC.
to bad HL1 isn't on sale, I've been wanting to play it.
I got it for $2.50 last summer sale, so you shouldn't have to wait too much longer.

Thanks for the reminder. 8 bucks is tempting.

The PC version launched at $20, it doesn't have as far to drop. Digital versions don't consume shelf space needed for the next overhyped game. Console game prices have a strong interaction with the "used" game market, something PC doesn't have. Also given the years gap, I just don't see too much applicability of your point.
There's a really nice article on Tom's comparing the stock and overclocked performance of Core 2 Duo/Quad to a i3-3220 & i5-3570K.
Don't have time to read this now, but my air-cooled (hyper212) i5-2500k is an absolute beast. I overclocked the hell out of it very easily and it's completely stable. I hit 4.3GHz with zero issues, if I had the time and energy I'm sure I could have got it to 4.5. I can't imagine needing much more at this point - especially since I'm not encoding video or anything of that likes anymore.

I think I am gonna start that Excel Spreadsheet on my backlog and a list in order of games I wanna tackle.

After looking at that GTA V trailer, I realized I never bet GTA IV or Episodes. I need to do that before Saints Row 4 comes out . Only way I will do that is if I make a Spreadsheet that tells me what to play .

That or I stop my addiction to Kerbal Space Program which is essentially NASA the game (well creating and flying rockets, visiting other planets, creating space stations, etc). That game is awesome.

I've taken to keeping 20 or so games I am / should be playing in my steam favorites list. Yeah, I too need to get around to EFLC... I'd also suggest you might want to think of prioritzing any games who's online servers longevity is in question (e.g. TDU2).

Then again, sometimes I like having the prior game in my backlog to help me to stave off any impulse to buy the latest one. (...uugh, not more AssCred )

Except for the obvious need to recoup significant unachieved expected sales on the physical market and the general devaluation of the product (thus it's starting price point). It's clearly going to hit 75% off this year - and probably during Summer Sale. Digital versions may not consume shelf space but they are still expected to hit certain sales marks - and the quickest and easiest way to do that is through discounting. The standard sales curve of a digital item is like 2 weeks long, after that it's sales fall into an average weekly amount, and pretty much only spike on promotion. Given that BL has already been discounted as many times as it has, clearly it's average weekly sales numbers are disappointing. It's also simply put not that great of a game.

The MSRP for Brutal Legend (on consoles) dropped to $20 5 months after its release. Something to consider. Later on, it reached the point where it wouldn't sell, so a few retailers clearanced it off for $2-3. Shelf space does come into factor, but it's more of a case where a game simply isn't selling so it gets massive discounts. I imagine the PC version will be in a similar situation for the digital market.

Thanks. ...holding fast.

And wow drop to $20 MSRP in 5 months... that reminds me of an old saying, "Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater, unless it's floating face down."
Is the GFDMAY20 coupon multiple or one time use?
I can't say for sure cuz I haven't used it.. but gamefly coupons are usually one time use.
Well, since TF2 went F2P I think they'd have a hard time selling it...
You mean like they sell premium tokens to get the full game? :p

Always assume GameFly coupons are single-use... That said, unlike Amazon they have a CART, so you can can add all your purchases to your cart and get the code to apply to the whole cart... and just hope you don't need to bother creating another GF account if something else pops up that you want before a new coupon is issued.
Grrr, why won't they sell TF2 on its own. I want cheap codes for more idle accounts. ._.
Err, yeah...it's F2P. Install it once and you should be able to access it from all of your accounts. And if you're from a country where it somehow isn't free, just use OpenVPN or CyberGhost free version and install it using a US IP.

I could never understand why there's such a huge market for TF2 items even after it went F2P and can be farmed like crazy. I'd never spend actual currency on something like that.

The market for TF2 items is generally for stuff you can't farm. And it's always been that way really, even before F2P.

And he wants the idle account to be premium. Free accounts are restricted quite a bit.
