CAGiversary!

Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V7! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

Since the V6 thread, we've decided to leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Summer sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 5/20

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

So confused by these Steam sales popping up out of nowhere. I love them, just fearful of missing something I guess.
My impression is that developers/publishers are desperate to move their games but there aren't enough sale spots on Steam to do so. Even with the weekly sales there are still a good half a dozen or so other games that just pop up on stealth sales with no announcement.
Yeah, I definitely think it's worth playing even with the graphics. I just know some people hate bad graphics.
I expect different people have different eras of graphics that they consider minimally acceptable. For me, Half Life 1 era graphics were and are the earliest that I consider fine. Half Life 1, Red Faction, NOLF, and Deus Ex I can live with. I appreciate later games with prettier graphics, of course. Earlier games with rougher 3d I find tough to play, for the most part.

I do suspect, however, that gameplay improvements in that eara have something to do with my perception.

I'm in the same boat. I went from Nintendo to SNES to N64 to PS2.

I skipped PS1 altogether outside of some games I bought to play on the PS2. I find PS1 usually the hardest era to play graphics wise. N64 was a little more tolerable to me due to the art style which leaned towards the cartoonish for most games I played and was a little smoother. PS1 just felt too clunky for me.

I played some PC games mixed in there, but I didn't really become a big PC gamer until college when I got the PS2 and my first real PC gaming rig.
I would consider Borderlands/Borderlands 2 to be ARPGs. It's all the same gameplay hooks and trappings, just in the first person. I think there are games like that that are basically more interesting takes on the ARPG, we just don't consider them to be ARPGs anymore because that genre has been so perfected into a very narrowly defined experience.
Borderlands 1 to me is a FPS/ARPG hybrid - since most classes rely heavily on guns, guns, and guns.
I've yet to play Borderlands 2.

HGL was more of a ARPG than FPS, since the 6 classes varied quite a bit. Some classes were melee based; some were magic-based; some were shooter-baseed.

It must be said - I'll take Borderlands over HGL.

For some reason I want to say Hell gate london. Though I could be wrong.
I still ain't finished Torchlight 2. After 10 hours of it - yeah, I need break from loot grinder ARPG's; at least for a little bit of time. That, and/or the entire genre needs some kind of overhaul, evolution, or change.
Exact same thing happened to me. I took a break and played some different games. When I came back I was far more addicted to it. Looking forward to trying Sacred 2!

I think everyone's fine with the devs/pubs wanting to do more sales. It's the stealth part that's the issue. The news post announces are okay but if they really want to get it out there they need it on the front page. Also some of the sales aren't even getting news announcements.

If they keep this up they may have to adopt something more akin to the summer/winter sale layouts.
Hellgate London I'm guessing.
Yep.

EDIT 2:
For some reason I want to say Hell gate london. Though I could be wrong.
You are also correct.
Not wrong at all.

EDIT 1:

Hot Girls Live
Nope.
Disagree. They just had a good RTS/TBS/city-builder 50% off (which is as much as anything ever drops during a normal GOG sale) this past weekend and today they have a buy 5 for 80% off sale (not for me because I own almost all of the stuff on offer that I'm interested in on that or another store--still a very nice sale though).
Like I said, no great sales lately. That was a good sale.

But it wasn't a very good sale, because GOG frequently puts things on sale for 60%. You're incorrect about 50% being the lowest they drop things to during normal sales. The odd 75%-80% off sales only involve bundles.

I like the current sale, it's just not for me (and not for most people that buy on GOG often, since they've have most of the choices). That said, Alan Wake, American Nightmare, Divinity 2 DX, Riddick, and Inquisitor is an awesome bundle, and the cheapest ANY of the games have ever been.
Yeah, I definitely think it's worth playing even with the graphics. I just know some people hate bad graphics. That's why you need to rip your PS2 games to your PC and play them there! 6x the resolution of the console, graphics filtering, and 60 FPS. It's incredible.

Old games are hit and miss for me though. Sometimes I can put up with dated graphics (Half Life, Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines, etc), while other times they just bug me and kill the experience.

HELLGATE: LONDON.

Some Ex-Blizzard devs worked there at Flagship Studios on that ARPG game, before that game & company got Flagshipped.
Since they went under, Hanbit and T3 took over the game franchise.

EDIT:
Some dev's from Flagship were Bill Roper; Travis Baldree; and the Schaefer brothers (Max and Erich).

As far as I am aware...Sacred 2 did not show up on the news/blog.

Anybody playing Heart of the Swarm?

I hear it only has 1 time activation, then can be played offline campaign, AI. If this is the case, I might actually get it.

I played it like crazy on my crappy old laptop, but since I installed it and modded it to perfection on my new one, I haven't touched it. Hell, I even reskinned my Malkavian girl to be sexy.

Honestly I need to do my own reskins. That would make me play it.

Bloodlines is my most reinstalled game of all time.

Back on my previous PC when I was often fighting for HDD space, this was the game that I was always uninstalling and reinstalling.
By every Halloween, it eventually found its way back on my hard drive.

Since I got this game on my current PC, yeah - this game will NEVER probably see an uninstall.

I love this game - and Heather Poe - to death.

Probably not the last time, either!

While most people were busy dating; having a girlfriend or boyfriend; falling in love; partying; hanging out w/ friends; drinking; and doing other stuff of a social nature...

Yeah, in person, I'm not much of a social butterfly, unless I already know you well or am comfortable around you...
...but my online persona, as you can tell, IS the social butterfly; complete opposite.

In most cases, I feel I can type much better, clearer, and WAY more interesting and articulate better - than I actually speak.
Again, that's true, unless I know you well and/or I am comfortable around you.

Travis Baldree was the only one with talent out of the bunch. He was the creator of Fate which is basically Torchlight. He was also I believe was the lead on Mythos which was the only good thing flagship made yet it was never released.

Fate was also another good ARPG. Reminded me a bit of the original Diablo.
Of course, Torchlight 1 reminded me more so of the original Diablo.

I unfortunately never played Mythos.

About HGL - I waited a few months and a bunch of patches behind before getting it (as an X-Mas Present from dad - Collector's Edition) b/c of its hellacious & extremely rocky launch. Even despite my complaints w/ that game (and yeah, there were a bunch - lack of voice-acting; writing wasn't that great; cliffhanger ending; SP wasn't being as often patched as the MP), I still liked it & had a lot of fun w/ it online.
Who doesn't? ;)

I so loved the Asylum, Jeannette, Therese, VV, Jack, and so much more.
And that soundtrack - Chiasm; Genitorturers; Tiamat - damn, did it freaking rock!
The writing itself and the voice-acting was so damn good in that game, too.

I think the best writing in the game...was the opening FMV. ;)
I loved the opening FMV.
VTM made vampires cool. Much different than the modern day vampire craze.
VTM made vampires cool. Much different than the modern day vampire craze.
Go ahead - blame them Twilight movies. ;)

True Blood - that depends on the episode. After the 1st Season (which I thought was pretty good), many episodes for me in the Seasons after that on that show are either "love it" or "hate it".

I'd also like to say - that movie Let The Right One In was an awesome vampire movie.
Never saw the USA Remake (Let Me In).

I'd blame the books first, but even then, not really. Everyone and their mother has thrown together something about vampires. Whether it's a CW show or a tween novel, there's always teen vampires getting it on and shit. It's tiring and usually lame, and yeah, I think the Twilight novels are very badly written. They just hit on a market of impressionable kids and loveless women and took off. My mom is friends with a lady in her 40s who divorced her husband after reading the books and went looking for new love. No kidding.

I'd love to see a new VTM game, but that will probably never happen.

Oh, hell yeah - I've love to see a VTM game. Namely, a Bloodlines sequel would be great. :D

I'm still curious what the hell is going on w/ that World of Darkness MMO, even though....yeah, I'm not the biggest fan of MMO's. I'd rather a game be an optional for the player to play its main campaign optionally SP offline or MP.

Since I mentioned games forcing online (like MMO's do) - SimCity (2013) looks to be taking even more of a beating, now... ;)

EDIT:
As far as I am aware...Sacred 2 did not show up on the news/blog.
Odd. I don't see it there, either.
Silent sale, maybe? ;)
Is this price for Binary Domain Collection a good one? I've heard (actually read) many good things about this game.
I don't know if it's a good price...
...but it is less than I paid for the base game alone ($10).

I never touched the MP, but the SP was a blast.
This was such a Sleeper Hit of a game, last year.
Finding love through online gaming? I've friendzoned all of my steam friends. I'm looking at you, Idiotekque!
You're moving anyways!
I just saw that Sacred 2 Gold is on sale for 66% off, making it $6.79.

I believe this is the lowest price it's been on Steam. Unfortunately, it's not DRM free but it only uses Steam DRM.
For those who care, it's DRM-FREE on GG.
That sucks. I avoided those (I think). I have the Triad Enforcer Pack, Ghost Pig, Martial Arts Pack, Nightmare in North Point, Wheels of Fury, and Zodiac Tournament. And now I want the Year of the Snake one. Mostly I'm picking up the mission DLCs (skipped the racing pack because I generally suck at racing).
I largely agree. I want the full story experience when I play a game; I don't want to have to come back months or years later for some can't-miss DLC. I haven't had too many problems with this because I usually just pick the story DLCs that look interesting as I go. On the other hand, the pricing on some of it is a bit crazy and the Citadel thing is a good example of that. First the story (from what I've read about it in reviews) seems a bit hackneyed [R&R in the middle of a catastrophic galactic war :hot:] and then I also question whether I want to spend around 40% of what I spent on the main game on a piece of DLC (and frickin' BioWare never puts this stuff on sale, at least for PC).

EDIT: This is a solid deal, but I'm starting question what the heck is going on over at Valve. Random weeklong deals?! I like deals as much as the next CAG but it doesn't seem like there's much consistency to what Steam is doing these days. 1-2 weekend deals, 1-2 midweek deals, 4-5 weeklong deals and then stochastically-chosen weeklong deals that appear mysteriously throughout the week. Sacred 2 is a weeklong deal, apparently, but it's not part of the announcement that was made yesterday.
The racing missions are easy, very arcade-y, similar to Saints Row 2/3, iirc (but with a chance at twisty mountain roads.)
I think MysterD has pretty much written novels about it. ;) But TL;DR He liked it.

Maybe Ashes had some things to say too?

I wish there was a good place to easily refer to review posts and other posts with useful info that get buried over time without having to really dig for them.

I've played a little bit of it, but not much. Seems like a good 'Diablo-style' game.
I confess I haven't gotten much past the title screen, but wow it was more graphical eye candy than I was expecting.

For digging up old stuff I tend to do directed google searching, e.g.:
MysterD "Sacred 2" site:cheapassgamer.com
will surprise, only search cheapass gamer. You can restrict searches further with the inurl: and intitle: commands.

I liked the few hours of RFG I've played, but then again, I can get a kick out of just smashing stuff up. Apart from the really unique destruction modeling, it seemed quite competent. (It's the only RF game I've played.)

I have to agree with the "Diablo with guns!" (marketing?). I don't play/like FPS that much but BL1 & BL2 very much fed my "kill, loot, repeat" side, 130 hours on BL1 and 80 so far on BL2.

Also quite a number of great PS2 exclusives (barring possible much later HD re-released on PS3). The Onimusha and Burnout titles really stand out in my book, along with various one-offs like Musashi & Odin Sphere.

I hated most (not all) 3D games before 2003, 3D just because it was "sexy", which makes it extra hard to revisit those. The 2D/iso games of those days hold up better.

Interesting. Their earlier comments about the extent of their sever-side processing seemed suspicious for anything short of an MMO (considering Diablo 3 as MMO).

Also it's really interesting to hear they're using Amazon E2C, very sensible move, but then why can't they scale on demand (poor software architecture I assume).

Yes, it is. I have a nice little collection of GOG ones such as the AD&D games.

Baldurs Gate 1 & 2, Neverwinter Nights Diamond, Planscape Torment :)grouphug:), Icewindale 1 and 2, etc. Along with Witcher 1 and 2, Fallout, etc.
