Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V7! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

Since the V6 thread, we've decided to leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Summer sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 5/20

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
Steam has been really glitchy for me lately in some ways.
Like if I keep refreshing the Red Faction Armageddon page it alternates between showing and not showing that I own it. It's not the first game I've had this happen to either. Lately I've been having to throw stuff in the cart to see if I own it or not.

Also in few cases I've had people check my profile and go 'You don't own game X' and actually I did but it's just not registering and showing properly on my list of games under my profile.

It's only recently I've been having these issues. Before that it was no problem at all.

A couple days ago Steam "forgot" it had ~60 installed games installed (Hitting the install button it tries to install and grinds for a bit at "discovering existing files".) This happened to me the first time in Jan iirc.
No prob.
I clicked that vegas pic like 5 times and couldn't figure out why the full size version wouldn't load. Alas, too slow. :\ thanks though!

While on the semirecent topic of Sacred 2, I have to throw in my dissenting opinion. I've tried multiple times to get into it and give up after several hours each time. My main complaint is that actually too massive of a game, and it feels like FarCry2 with the respawning enemies. I would go off the screen, come back, and new enemies would be there. While it's definitely not the best ARPG I've played, you can do much worse.

Also even with the community patch it was fairly glitchy for me.

Anyone have thoughts about the Gothic series? I'm mainly interested in 3, Forsaken Gods, and Arcania.

Also is the Forsaken Gods Enhanced Edition on steam a standalone expansion, or a remake of 3 (with extra features)?

2 is the best, followed by 1. 3 is okay but feels like a single player MMO. Forsaken Gods is bad -- just reuses the same assets and world as 3 and it's not made by Piranha Bytes. Arcania is horrible. Not just for a Gothic game but it's literally one of the worst games I played and eventually uninstalled after six or so hours. It's so bad it makes me pity the developers who thought it was worth making (again, not made by PB). Don't waste your money.

Risen is made by PB and would have been Gothic 4.

Now I want to play it.

New Groupees bundle is up.

Wadjet Eye.

$1: Puzzlebots, Gemini Rue
$5: Blackwell Trilogy, Blackwell Deception, Resonance

Pretty amazing bundle if you don't have a lot of Wadjet Eye stuff and enjoy adventure games.

Thanks for the heads up. Haven't tried any Wadjet adventure games, but had Resonance sitting in my wishlist so I'll probably end up getting it. Recently played Deponia and loved it so more adventure games will be a good change of pace for me.

The only one from the bundle I don't have is the Blackwell Trilogy, which I can probably get for less than $5 when it goes on sale on Steam. Hmm, decisions, decisions.

In for Puzzle Bots, the only one I don't have. This really is an excellent bundle, and if anyone has any interest in point and click adventure games, I would highly recommend it.

The trilogy + deception have been at $10 the past couple sales. Even at 75% off they would be $5 still. I guess you could get the first 3 games individually for $1.25 each if they ever hit 75% off.
Faster Than Light is currently 60% off on developers' home page... am I doing a deadly sin by writing about it here and not buying it right now?
Nah. It's an alright game but really, really overrated.

The cheapest the Blackwell collection has been was when GOG did their 5 games for $10 sale, and the whole collection was considered one game.

I also had gotten Resonance in the same sale, so basically it was the same value the bundle gives now.

It's a great game, but it's gone on sale fairly regularly since launch. $4 is a good price for what you're getting, but if you're not going to play it right now don't worry about buying it yet.

Better yet...wait for the inevitable humble bundle it will be in.

I think it will be cheaper to get it on 75% off sale. FTL will be for sure in BTA tier, which is expensive, if you want only one game from it.

Maybe....maybe not. I say if you're not looking to play it anytime soon wait. With as often as its been on sale id bet it shows up in the next numbered humble bundle.

A true CAG would just wait and see. If it is, there's always the inevitable Steam sale for 75% off.

Thanks for the heads up! I am just discovering the modern adventure game revolution and am loving me some Telltale games right now. Someone push me over the edge on these!

It's def worth it if you don't own then. Pushed
Haha, thanks. Any other adventure games I shouldn't miss?
The pendulo adventure games are pretty good and the daedalic ones are good too. Some of the daedalic games have been I'm bundles, like deponia and the whispered world. You may want to check out the trade thread to see if anyone has those.

I recommend looking at the current GOG sale, which has a few of these games:

Daedalic

* Deponia
* A New Beginning

Telltale

* Back To The Future
* Sam & Max Seasons 1 & 2

Pendulo

* Runaway: A Twist Of Fate
Haha, thanks. Any other adventure games I shouldn't miss?
As others have said Pendulo and Daedalic are excellent. I just finished the Edna & Harvey games and had a blast. Daedalic tends to swing a little more towards humor, like Telltale or LucasArts, while Pendulo has more serious storylines, as does Wadjet Eye. Both Pendulo and Wadjet Eye pull it off, though, and write some really compelling plots.

If you want to get a lot deeper in you could give some of the more humorless early 2000's like Syberia and the Still Life series a shot as well. Those tend to be pretty difficult and a little more dour in their plots, but I find them pretty good still.

Also, don't pass on some of the super indie stuff like Ben There, Dan That and Journey Down. They aren't as well produced (Ben There, Dan That/Time Gentlemen, Please! is unvoiced and downright ugly), but they've got the writing where it counts, which is a huge part of the genre.

Speaking of which, do those games come with a redeemable Steam key if I buy them off GOG, or are they just DRM free? 'Cause I don't see any Steam reference at all on the products' pages...

Everything on GOG is completely DRM free, no keys no anything. So they don't force Steam upon you.

If you're a fan of BTTF, like me, you already have the game... If you still don't, BUY IT. is the closest we'll get to a new BTTF movie. It really catches all the stuff we fans love from those movies. Is a must have and must play!

It's also just a really pleasant and fairly easy adventure game. If you're just getting into the genre it's a great jumping off point.

Ben there, Dan That and Time Gentlemen, Please! Are the games that introduced me to the new adventure game wave. The puzzles aren't as good as the wadjet eye games, but the humor more than makes up for any shortcomings. I definitely recommend them.
Today's deal is the Game of Thrones Bundle at 75% off ($17.50)

Both Game of Thrones and GoT Genesis are $9.99 each.
The Beyond the Wall DLC is the only pack on sale and it's $1.25
This makes me a bit sad that I snagged the GoT RPG during Origin's recent sale for $10, especially as I haven't played it. I want that DLC pack (sigh).

I'm more of a School of Thrones person myself.
Any reason to even consider the game of throne games? I heard they were both kinda bad.
I've heard the RPG isn't bad; a little clunky but worth picking up if you're a fan of the series.

Amusing that we get this on the day that they elect a new Pope.

Alright guys, thanks for all the adventure games recs! Haven't tried any of those, so all the info was really helpful. I will be making a list for the next sale!

Also keep in mind a lot of those games have been in bundles, so you can probably find many of them being sold in the Steam Group Buy/Trade thread for cheaper than you would get them even during a sale.
