Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V7! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

Since the V6 thread, we've decided to leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Summer sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 5/20

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

http://storybundle.com/
New Storybook bundle, featuring several video game books for a minimum of $3. The only one I cared about picking up in the bundle is "Killing is Harmless," the Spec Ops: The Line thematic analysis book, and that's normally $5 in the kindle store. So its a good deal if you only want that book.

Pay $3-$9.99
* The Making of Karateka by Jordan Mechner
* Kill Screen Issue 2: Back to School by Kill Screen Magazine
* Confessions of the Game Doctor by Bill Kunkel
* Constellation Games by Leonard Richardson
* Killing is Harmless by Brendan Keogh
* Kill Screen Issue 6: The Change Issue by Kill Screen Magazine
* Generation Xbox: How Videogames Invaded Hollywood by Jamie Russell

with 3 bonus books if you pay $10+:
* Videogames: In the Beginning by Ralph H. Baer
* The Making of Prince of Persia by Jordan Mechner
* 250 Indie Games You Must Play by Mike Rose

4 more Greenlights. Some software, Edge of Space, Venetica (?!) and Papers, Please. Papers seemed inevitable after how much press it has had this week. Venetica is just weird. Older game with not exactly a huge following and not a great reception. Edge of Space looks fun enough in that Terrariaish sort of way.
Venetica looks the best out of those, to me. Not interested in the rest. None of them look particularly good, an odd batch this time around.

Venetica is underrated - I'm just saying.

I bought it a bit ago from Retail at GameStop dirt-cheap ($10), of all places...
It is DRM-FREE from there.
Also, Fortix 2 is good and everyone should agree with my factual opinion.
 I'm inviting you to a game tonight so we can argue over voice chat about how wrong your opinion is. ;)

It's Qix with dragons!!!!!!!!!!

Picked up a game on Steam called Prime World: Defenders.

All I can say is, if you like tower defense and collectible card game stuff you will probably really dig this.

It is a solid tower defense game with a pretty good story so far. Your character levels up and you select perks and unlock them with money you get playing the game. You have a forge where you can evolve your towers and upgrade them using cards. You get cards for playing levels and in the in game store you buy with money (game money not real). Different cards can upgrade your towers more and such. I'm not very far in yet, but it is really cool and I suggest checking it out if you are into this type of stuff.
papers, please is really quite good

glad it's getting a full steam release, hope it's a lot longer than the freeware version
This I've played through it a couple of times. Has a lot of potential.

Added it to the wishlist! Thanks for the heads up. :)

Venetica being underrated or not, my bafflement was more that it got greenlit at all. It's a few years old, doesn't really have a strong fanbase, did not get a good reception. So it had to have been pretty far down the ranks of greenlit stuff. Especially given the publisher has more well known stuff like Gray Matter still stuck in limbo. Must be a fan at Valve. Just seemed like a really odd choice to break their normal greenlight process for.

I think it was a lot of people up-voting based on the game having had an actual console release, which have more rigorous cert processes than Steam, so they thought it deserved a place in the store.

I upvoted Venetica. It looked good, I always wanted to try it, and I never played it on consoles. Good enough reason for an upvote, and I'm sure a lot of people thought the same.

I always wanted to play Venetica. It looked interesting. Sometimes those lower key rpgish games are true gems at times that a lot of people overlook. I remember when it came out the dev was hoping to get it on Steam when it was asked but for whatever reason it never did. Glad to see it on there now.

In my head I keep reading Venetica as Helvetica, which we all know is the most hipster of all fonts. I should probably watch that GB QL again. I'm sure that I already did when it came out as a subscriber of that site, but I don't remember it at all.

I...I wish this was a real show.

I was into fonts when they came in big ass books.

Actually, I wasn't into fonts then. I hated them. Because they came in big ass books. Or you'd buy a used font book and a third of the pages had holes cut in them.

Ditto. Pretty much. And I read a lot of reviews that said despite it's flaws it was a beautiful game, and I figured if it got on steam, the odds of picking it up cheap would drastically increase.

Oh wow, I made it to the end of the thread. So much going on lately.

Bought the Groupees bundle to get GT2. Picked six of the games that were in bundles I'd missed/avoided. Good deal for two bucks.
Also just found this:

Square Enix sale
Huh, must have had this sitting in multiquote for a few days. Thanks for the link. Bought Gyromancer, finally got that off of my wishlist and into the backlog. Where it shall probably remain.

Have 1 on GOG, 2 is in a box somewhere, I played my then roommate's copy of 3 on 360, and I have New Vegas, but not on Steam.

My Bethesda collection on Steam is pretty much non-existent. I'll go ahead and buy the pack one day in a sale when it's got more stuff that I'll realistically play but haven't.

- Change "fonts" to "women"
- Swap out the first "in" for "with"
- Replace the "k" in the first "books" with "b"
- Make ". Or" say "and"
- Substitute "font book" with "Playboy"

Yeah, didn't make much sense to me :whistle2:#

I picked up Venetica during that Newegg sale, because the price was right. (Free after rebate)

For a 2009 game, it does look pretty good. I don't know what to think of gameplay yet. I'm not sure about the controls with keyboard and mouse. The game also seems to lack some polish. I'll keep at it and see how far I get...

Thanks for this! Been looking at it in the hope it would be a solid game, I'm running out of things to do with Defender's Quest so Prime World could be the next thing.

Or maybe I should play something in my backlog.

Does anyone knows if Men of War Vietnam Special Edition on steam uses Securom? The regular edition listed Securom as DRM at Gamersgate.

What about the following Men of War games on steam, are they using Securom too? Both Assault Squad and Condemned Heroes listed Securom as DRM at Gamersgate too.

Men of War
Men of War: Red Tide
Men of War: Assault Squad
Men of War: Condemned Heroes

I will appreciate it if anyone can help.
When did Dark Souls get a perma price drop on steam to 29.99?
Thanks for pointing this out! Sweet, 75% off sale here I come!

(although I should really play this sealed copy of Demon Souls I have first...hmm...)

There's a strong chance that half a play through of Demon Souls will be more than enough for you. It is for most people.

ORLY? Then I might give Dark a chance at some point. I could really only make it about halfway through Demon Souls before I had taken more than enough punishment. Though I do think every gamer should try it - it can certainly change the way you play games. I'm overly cautious in all games now. I don't think I've raised a single unscripted alarm in Tomb Raider and I'm 9 hours in.

That shift key is over a month and a half old.. doesn't work. That, or I redeemed it ages ago.

Dark Souls has some bosses that are probably harder than anything in Demons, but the general lack of the world/character tendency mechanic makes for smoother going overall. Again, just my $.02.

Literally posted less than 20 minutes ago on Twitter, so they might be recycling keys now.
