Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V7! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

Since the V6 thread, we've decided to leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Summer sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 5/20

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Last year's well received XBLA game Dust: An Elysian Tail is coming to Steam next Friday. Expect this epic furry metroidvania at $14.99. It's published by Microsoft. Hopefully we'll get another good package from Tony and Amazon this summer with it included.

The dragons Lair Pack in most systems for the last 10 years usually comes with three things
1. Dragons Lair 1
2. Dragons Lair 2
3. Space Ace

I will wait for the combo pack now that they got past being greenlit as a publisher before purchasing.

Let me guess. GFWL? Never heard of this game, but now I want it.

Also bought Duke Nukem seeing it's not going any cheaper than 50% off anytime soon. Too bad the coupon I had didn't work but hey Duke 3D for $5 is awesome.

No mention yet that I've seen. It was announced a few hours ago but the Steam page just went live and I've seen very little about the port so far.
Have you never played Keith Courage in Alpha Zone?!?!? For shame.
One of the first games I ever played and love it!!! Did we just become best friends lol

Microsoft doesn't add GFWL to its indie titles anymore, I think. Toy Soldiers had it, but it believe it was optional.

Haven't finished it yet, but what I've played has been fantastic! The graphics are just beautiful, and the story really hooked me in. I've really been meaning to get back to it, and would recommend picking it up even based on just the tiny portion I played:)

It was only optional after Steamworks was patched in. It launched with GFWL as a requirement. But yeah, Microsoft doesn't seem to care about GFWL anymore.

I think they have moved on to the Windows 8 app store. No real point for GFWL if they get you to buy from their proprietary store anyway. Not sure why anyone would do that, but you can't blame Microsoft from trying:lol:

No but you get internet points for knowing obscure Turbo Grafx 16 games!
I'm actually kind of annoyed that I didn't get a single duplicate card. I have virtually nothing to offer for a trade, so I either have to find someone willing enough to just give me a card or I have to buy the ones I need.
I think that's their devious plan to get us to spend money/use the marketplace and get fees. It's impossible to collect a full set for every eligible game you own merely through playing or trading, which I think really sucks.
when i see these xbla coming to pc all i can think about is how i would strangle a kitten to get shadow complex on steam
Prove it.

Good lord, are there others who grew up on that game? D: I too thought I was alone in my childhood TG16 experiences. (I blame Raiden and R-Type for making me the bitter husk I am today)

Easily one of my favorite games last year. The platforming, combat, graphics, and music are all extremely solid. It's a very enjoyable metroidvania, and was an overall great experience. Glad to see it coming out for peeps who don't own 360s.

I only had about four or five games for TurboGrafx -- I think Keith Courage came with it. The others were uh... Vigilante (sort of a Double Dragon clone), Dungeon Explorer (?), China Warrior and... can't remember.
Support it on PC AND buy it cheap on PC during a sale! Win/win

Hopefully Rising on PC is a good sign that Metal Gear Solid 5 will be on PC as well when that comes out.
Hopefully, they port ALL of the old missing MGS games to the PC and re-release the MGS games that already came here, too.

No Bonk?

Can someone help me understand this Steam Trading Card Beta? I just received 3 invites, do I need to open one myself to join up or am I already joined into the program? Thanks.

You're already in the program. Those are for your friends. Needless to say, their value has dropped significantly from ao's $7 invite sales to now. :whistle2:(

Thankfully, though, card drops are time-based depending on how much DOTA 2/TF2/HL2/Portal 2/Don't Starve you play. I just left my games running while I was at work and got my allotted drops.

Thanks, I wasn't sure. I was just gonna give them to some friends.

Playing seems to get them faster. I left HL2 on for hours to get the cards, but I got three Portal 2 cards within about 30 minutes when I was flying through story missions.

I've been meaning to get back to that game, maybe this is a good excuse.

So do achievements in games count towards steam levels or is it only completed badges?

Never mind just found the answer to my questions it is badges.

Ah, very good. I was just coming in here to ask a question about playing the game versus letting it sit there.

As for me, the only game I have that gives drops is Don't Starve. Guess that's what I'm playing!

you mean to tell me you don't own Half-Life 2? *does not compute*
Or Portal 2!? :error:
Hah, turns out I DO own Portal 2. Just forgot. Since I haven't played it yet, I guess I probably will to get the cards.

There's really not much of a difference between playing vs. idling. I got my four drops in 0.8 hours on Portal 2 and 1.2 hours on HL2 (I never played them before on Steam, lol). You can use it as an excuse to get through a couple of games in your backlog, but it's not necessary if you just want the cards. Additionally, tracking your in-game progress and cutting down time between drops based on in-game actions seems a little too complex for a beta feature. I'd say it's based on a simple algorithm that calculates a certain time interval, like one of those random giveaway websites, and nothing more.
For anyone that bought the THQ games, does anyone know what the difference between COH and COH new steam version is?
I'd love to know this too. I have yet to install the original game, then all of a sudden a new steam edition pops up under it. Wouldn't know what to install if I were interested.

I believe the old version of COH used Gamespy (which I think no longer exists?) for multiplayer and the new Steam version uses, well, Steam.

I'm surprised Idiotekque didn't mention that MGS1 (PS1) & MGS2&3 (PS2) can easily be played in PCSX2 looking much nicer than they did on PS2.

That didn't last very long, but I luckily got in quickly enough on my tablet. And you have to install the Gamestop/Impulse app just to get your code, but at least everything went fine and it registered on Steam withough problems - thanks dawg!

It's still going.

I'll wait for 91%.

It still appears valid to me (I'm not checking out since I already own it.)

Makes sense with TW: Rome 2 coming out soon. Marketing baby!

Weird - for a while it was giving me "invalid code" - probably fudged something up with the cut-n-paste...

Well, I really only mention that when I know the game runs well on PCSX2. Certain games run horribly (like Star Wars Battlefront) and some don't run at all (like the Ratchet & Clank series, because of the way textures are rendered). I haven't tried MGS2, although I do have the disc (which I've never played...).

I have a complete, near mint black label copy of MGS1 too... I seem to recall getting stuck in it and losing interest. That game was so ahead of its time.

I sort of wish you could up the resolution in ePSXe though. Filtering is nice, but it's nothing like resolution multiplication.

Picked up Reus. It plays like a 2D real-time mashup between Black & White and Civilization, but a bit more peaceful. It's really nice, actually, and surprisingly complex. You'll be doing a lot more tile renovation than you normally do in Civ, though, so that mentality of "build around what you've got" goes out the window, since most tile renovations have no time delay. Anyway, I recommend it at the current price of $9.

Also picked up Receiver. This is a really strange, neat first-person game about manipulating and using a real gun. Every playthrough is randomized in every way, including what gun you have and what state the gun is in, so it forces you to handle your weapon when you start in order to check your bullet count, if the safety is on, if the slide is pulled back, if all your bullets are expended in your revolver, etc. and remedy these issues before moving forward, lest you discover a problem when you face off with the sentries you encounter. There are lots of buttons, each performing a specific task in manipulating the real-life weapon (slide lock, pulling back the slide, dropping the clip out, putting the clip back in, loading bullets into the clip, rotating out the revolver chamber, pulling back the hammer, etc.) so you are forced to learn how to handle a real weapon. It's really fascinating and kind of mesmerizing, even if the gameplay is largely uneventful. The story is also really esoteric and strange, so you'll either find it intriguing (I did) or annoyingly vague. Also recommended at $5, full retail price.
I sort of wish you could up the resolution in ePSXe though. Filtering is nice, but it's nothing like resolution multiplication.
I played MGS on Bleemcast back in the day, which ups the resolution to 640x480. It honestly looked really good, minus the muddy textures (the result of increasing the resolution beyond waht they expected you to see). It is apparently not difficult to download copies of Bleemcast now, and the source has also apparently been used to run dozens more games than the original three that Bleem first developed Bleemcast for: Gran Turismo 2, MGS, and Tekken 3. For those unfamiliar with Bleemcast, it was a boot disc you put into your Dreamcast that set your DC up to run whatever PSX game it was written for. They were shut down by copyright litigation after three releases, unfortunately.

You might want to try playing the gamecube remake of MGS1, the Twin Snakes on the Dolphin emulator if you can. It'll be higher res and the controls are updated to be like MGS2.

wow Bleem, that's a name I haven't heard in a long time.
