Cross-posting from another topic: Phil Fish blow up, Fez 2 cancelled (anyone still a fan of his now?)

He annoys the crap out of me, couldn't watch indie game: the movie because of him. If he really leaves just because people complain about him on social sites, that's just sad. Seriously, you can leave Facebook and twitter, and just work away from social media. You'll do fine if you do that.

was surprised this hasn't already been brought up. Honestly none of this really surprises me. I don't by any means hate the man, but agree with just about everyone that he really needs to grow up. Watching IGTM it really becomes abundantly clear that he has just been too far from society for too long and could use some serious help. I don't really have anything to say that hasn't already been said, but this is really completely ridiculous :headache:

[conspiracy theory mode]

Now, about Phil Fish -- let's hope it's a PR stunt, so he will go finish Fez 2 in silence w/out the media bothering him. ;)

And then he'll just suddenly drop it w/out any warning...and gamers will likely go buy. ;)

[/conspiracy theory mode]

[honest]

I really don't like to see a dude cancel his game for...reasons like this, if he really cancelled it b/c he was tired of the "abuse" and the media always looking to him for comments and info.

[/honest]

Of course - what Fish said in general about "modern" Japanese games from that 2012 Panel wasn't right, either.

{shoulder shrug}

At least Jonathan Blow explained pretty well why he (also) didn't care for those type of games that Fish was aiming at - and Fish didn't explain nearly as well as Blow did.

I also don't understand the problem w/ having "hand-holding" games - we need these games to grace no0bs into gaming; and some of us don't always want to play a game that's "here's the tools - go figure it out." I mean, do we really want a no0b-gamer's first game to be Dark Souls? LOL. Hey, they gotta start somewhere - and that ain't the likely place! We don't want a no0b's first game to make them not come back to gaming! But, hey - if Dark Souls is your first game and you can hack through it - AWESOME! :D More power to you! :D That's...pretty freaking awesome, if you ask me!

Also, I don't understand why games have to always be "no mini-map, not much info, we'll give you some tools - just go figure this crap out yourself and die/respawn 100,000 times" - like Dark Souls.

Not every game needs to be the same! I'm glad there are different kinds of games doing different kinds of things!

If I want linear-as-hell FPS w/ a solid SP campaign and just killing enemies - hell yeah, give me COD series; those games are solid at what they do. If I want open-world RPG that feels like an offline MMO - hell yeah, give me Skyrim. If I want a good MMORPG - yep, TSW! I want awesome team-based competitive FPS - BF series! I want an over-the-top gory fighter - MK series! I want a more cartoony-style fighter - Street Fighter series!

If I want an awesome JRPG-style game - crap, we really need more of these on the PC! Release more Japanese games on the PC, please! I'd love to see Square Enix port all them FF's that ain't on the PC over here! I ain't played a FF since FF9.

Now to something more important. My dogs just ate all their food. Need to go buy some more...

Also, I just crafted the summer sale badge (totally forgot it), and now have a prime world defenders 75% coupon. The game looks awesome, anyone played it?

You can take the drama queen out of high school...
I'm calling it right now - he did this "Fez 2 cancelled" announcement to get the media to leave him alone, so he could secretly finish up Fez 2. ;)

If he seriously doesn't do Fez 2 - I think it'll be his wallet's loss, more so than anything. Dude is in such a great position to do a sequel & make even more $, after many loved his first game.

Seriously... Fez 2 is absolutely necessary?
Ask that question to those that actually want Fez 2. ;)

Also - it's good to see Indie developers succeed; especially when the AAA market is littering us w/ a plethora of sequels galore and homogenizing games way too much. Nice to see the little guys succeed.

I just wish...Fish wasn't so damn abrasive & blunt about things w/out little to much explanation - i.e. see the "Japanese games suck" thing from GDC 2012. At least Annoyed Gamer (Marcus Beers) and Jonathan Blow do actually explain themselves - even if you don't agree w/ what they say and/or how they go about actually saying it.

Whether people want fez 2 or not, I'm just glad we hopefully won't have to read any more news about Phil fish. Even if you like his game, which I don't, his attitude makes me cringe. Telling people to kill themselves over social media really displays his level of maturity.

I don't think Marcus Beers calling him names & other things was right in that episode on GT that fueled a lot of this mess to another level, either.

They're both kind of abrasive & blunt in their opinions and thoughts on anything - hmm, I guess they're both alike, in that regard.

Anyways - life goes on. Hope they both get over this situation and move the heck on.

I'm moving on - 20 minutes until next Steam Sale Daily! :D

it has a pretty lousy metascore, though the user rating is much higher (81 vs 58). The bits of reviews I read seem to indicate that if you love tower defense you will probably enjoy it, but that it isn't really a must play for anyone else. Also seems to involve a lot of grinding. Personally I'd wait for a bundle or sub $3.

EDIT: there is a demo available, so you could try that if you are really interested :)

I always look more at the user's reviews (reading them, of course). I don't have problem with grinding, but will try the demo.

I really hate how by adding $5 to your Steam Wallet, from a credit card you've used before to buy games, that one gets locked out of the community market. It really takes 3-4 days to verify a $5 transaction and as a result penalizes the Steam account owner? It's just a minor complaint I have with Steam, nothing that I'll air-punch about though. ;)

Now the cancellation of FEZ 2 on the other hand...  no, I'm just kidding. Fish needs to grow up, learn to take criticism better and brush it off. Sounds like he definitely hit his boiling point in his anger match with Marcus Beer.

Sorry to hear about your issue. I added to my steam wallet from my usual CC during the SSS without issues or market-lockout. I would note that Valve has me CC info saved.

I just finished watching IGTM and the extra "DLC" that comes with it. While an asshole, people blow Fish out of proportion. He's not such a bad guy, truly not. I buy into the idea of a previous poster that he said he's cancelling Fez II in order to get less media attention.

But why, greendayrulestce, do you find Phil Fish not to be such an asshole? I'll give one such example illustrated by Fish himself (seems highly likely). At a convention, Fish said to a Japanese developer asking a panel he was on that Japan's modern games suck. However, media outlets made it seem with their headlines that he stated something on a much grander scale. While it was a douchey way to go about it, and I wouldn't want to work with Phil Fish in any direct manner, to just see him stressed out is just what it is, he wants perfection in what he makes, and it's just the way he is. People overreact to assholes. Get over it.

[And perhaps this shouldn't be posted in the steam deals thread, but count of it as my insight in into the recent DLC released and that I approve of]

He wants perfection?

So him releasing a broken game on Xbox Live and then releasing a patch that broke things more then just walking away from the game completely is him trying to achieve perfection?

He's an asshole that thinks he's special for creating "art"

I would have thought the same thing with my CC, but it has been at least nine months or longer since I've actually added money to my steam wallet. Maybe that's why or the fact my expiration date has changed recently and there's a need to re-verify.

I wish Steam would warn you before completing the transaction though, even if that meant an extra page to view and an accept button to click.

Hmm I'd wager it's because your CC expiry date changed. For me it was the first time (ever) adding steam wallet funds. Yes, they really need a bleedin warning.

That sucks, but at least its only 3-4 days. I used paypal to add Steam Wallet during the Steam sale for the first time and it was a full weak lock out for me.

And where is incredipede for $1.99?

I really do hope these all eventually show up as dailies. I'm liking the trend of better prices on dailies after the Steam sale.

Maybe it's because I haven't seen too many press releases about Phil Fish, but when I saw him at the first real unveiling of Fez in the movie, PAX I believe, you could see that he had a vision, and just couldn't fully grasp what he was trying to do. He edited the game way too much, especially for a first time project. I've done the same thing while writing essays. I have this grand vision of what I want it to be, but can't yet fully articulate everything with lots of work. And I believe there was the whole Microsoft being non-compliant with releasing patches, I think it cost a good sum of change to release a single patch. That policy recently became retroactive, if I recall all this correctly, so there's some understanding that it's not all his fault.

This being said, I'm far from a fanboy, I avoided Fez during the Summer Sale b/c of many of the problems the PC version apparently has. Perhaps later they will be fixed. But yeah, he's an artist, and it doesn't matter so much what he says when he's commenting on art he has not created himself.

I haven't seen much of Phil Fish and still haven't seen IGTM.  That said, my general policy is that if a person consistently rubs others the wrong way, it's much more likely something that person is doing rather than some huge misunderstanding or persecution.

I support some pretty shitty devs so I won't be taking any stance on Fez based on Fish, I'm just waiting for it to be bundled because I've heard a lot of overrated talk about it.

I can be down for that too. Haha, playing Devil's advocate to see how it went. I think this can be summed up in "People are cray."

You should watch IGTM, not to see what a nut Fish is..but its not a bad documentary. The Team Meat guys actually seem pretty cool..at least Edmund does...his partner looks like he doesnt get out much

Yeah, I mean the guy should have a right to be an asshole and make video games if he wants. I assume like 9 out of 10 people I meet or interact with are probably assholes. If I didn't do business with assholes I'd have to become some sort of self-sustained hippie in the woods.

So that is Edmund. I got like 2 of his cards when idling. I'll be watching it soon hopefully, if only for the achievements.

Does anyone else have problems downloading stuff from Origin servers? I've been downloading the ME 3 Citadel DLC for about 8 hours now because my transfer rate is capped at 61Kb/sec. Even on my new slower internet through AT&T, I usually get a downstream rate of 300-400 on Steam.

Sometimes Origin is like that for me. It'll start out high and eventually drop to 40-60kb/s (which the Citadel DLC did for me as well). However, last week I just had a download that was steady at 1.1mb/s, so it definitely is ymmv. (Oh, and the Citadel DLC is awesome.)

Re: Fish.  He's an attention whore.  This whole thing is probably engineered to get him more attention/publicity for Fez 2.  Fez itself (like Jonathan Blow's Braid) is grossly overrated.  There are no shortage of quaint retro platformers with some wacky gimmick.  It's an overcrowded and cliched genre.  Fish has to do this to distinguish himself from the pack.

And in the off chance it's not an act than the man actually is a condescending jerk and deserves whatever misery he suffers: you reap what you sew.

I'm getting 503 errors from the client Store, so they're probably having some difficulties.

Started downloading Mirror's Edge, and i'm getting around 1 mb/s which is slower than usual....and it's getting slower, 850kb/s now...HOW LOW WILL IT GO?

Cancelled when it hit 500 kb/s. Yeah, they're having difficulties.

EDIT: It turns out that download speeds on one particular client (re: Origin) will vary greatly when simultaneously downloading something on another client (re: Steam). And this is why i'm not a rocket surgeon.
