This thread has been replaced by TSDT v11

Daily Deal:
Please check the Steam homepage.

Weeklong Deals:
Steam usually has week-long deals that change on Mondays at 6PM UTC. They mostly feature indie games, and may not run every week.

Sale summary lists:

Key:
⤷ indicates DLC, — specifies part of a pack, + shows alternative versions, ⚠ highlights things worth knowing, ♫ is obvious, and ... denotes a multi-pack.

Holiday Sale 2013 | 19/12/13 through 3/1/14:
Days 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12, 13-14.

Spring/Autumn Sale 2013 | 27/11/13 through 3/12/13:
All days.

Steam deals on other stores: (Related threads on CAG.)

Indie* bundle threads: (*Not always indie, nor always a bundle.)

Free stuff:
There are quite a few free games (mostly Free to Play) and mods available via the Steam platform, a comprehensive list of which can be found in this thread on the SPUF.
(NOTE: free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.)

Just got this in my email.

Apparently not only is Age of Barbarian now on Desura but there's also Age of Barbarian Arena too in case you wanted to kick your friends' asses while wearing a thong.

I hope this means it will be showing up in an Indie Bundle soon. Definitely near the top of my want in a bundle but don't want to spend $10 on it list.

I'd vote for it in a hot minute if it ever gets added to Greenlight. The thing with Greenlight is no matter how trashy a game is it's guaranteed there are a hundred trashier ones a large portion of which will get in at some point.
Is it just me or does this look like a sort of sleazy, HD upgrade to this:

As was already recommended, Hawken is probably your best bet for a modern mech game. Square's crowdfunding platform also has one up which looks promising, but that's quite a ways off at this point. Something to watch anyway.

My favorite is still MechWarrior 3. I could never get very far in it, but always had great fun overloading my lasers at the helpless civilians (wait, was I not supposed to shoot them?).
I still prefer the MechCommander series.

I don't wholly want my 3-4 hours back.. but they sure could have been spent playing a better game.
That pretty much sums it up for me. It felt like the majority of the game could have been the opening tutorial level. The last sliver wasn't too bad, but by that time, the damage was already done. Like so many indies, it had potential...albeit wasted potential.

Going to do a live stream tonight with a bunch of games (will let you know which ones soon) at 6pm GMT (3 hours time from this post).

Bit last minute but hopefully that's a good time for you Americans :)

EDIT: Games will be:

  • FX Eleven
  • KAMI
  • Defender's Quest
  • Saturday Morning RPG
  • Shufflepuck Cantina Deluxe
  • Driftmoon

Now, somebody recommend me a game where I can run around as a giant mech blowing stuff up.
Back in the day, I once went to some place where you climbed into a "cockpit" and controlled a mech in some ten (?) person battle royale video game in first person (each person in their own cockpit video game thingie). It was fairly amusing except that you paid like $10 for the pleasure of having the die-hards beat the crap out of you while you tried to find the "launch missile" button. And this was back in the early-mid 90's so $10 then was like... a hundred-gorillian dollars in today's money.

Been playing BL2 free weekend. Can't see much difference with BL1, but that's not a bad thing.
They cleaned up some game mechanics although I can't think of any off hand (it's been a while). Mainly it just has a better plot than "Go find the vault because... umm... look, just go find the vault and shoot stuff, ok?" which makes it more enjoyable (to me) since you feel like you're progressing through something besides just experience levels. That's for the single-player game of course -- shooting stuff with friends is its own reward.

You're not talking about Cybertroopers Virtual On are you? I don't remember that being all that much money.. I do remember it being great though. I also remember getting it for the Sega Saturn & it being a bit of a let-down without the twin joysticks like the arcade... but I still played the hell out of it.

Was it a BattleTech Center?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdJA5C_Po4U

I completely forgot BattleTech Center was a thing that existed.  I now remember always wanting to try it back then but never being able to.  I was a huge battletech (and other tabletop & pen&paper rpg) nerd back then (in addition to being a gamer) so BTC was right up my alley.  Unfortunately I grew up in NY & since the closest one was MN it never happened.

Did anyone mention that Shadowgrounds has cards now?
Are we supposed to mention that? I got bitched out once for mentioning that Ducktales added cards. Also I just watch whatever game Drabelincoln is idling and I know cards have been added because he never plays his games.

Oh and FWIW Cthulhu Saves the World is getting cards tomorrow (supposedly).

I notice you save the already bundled and cheap games for the giveaways you do when most Americans aren't actually at work while the Euro timed ones that are 11 AM PST on weekdays get all the nice shiny new stuff that most of us here don't already own.

Yes, I am entitled. :nottalking:

Tonight's stream was done on very short notice and I don't even know if the turnout will be any good. Also, there's more games than the usual 1 or 2.

Also, I'm still bitter than North America gets Legend of Zelda: Four Swords for free on 3DS.

I'll try and make something special happen for you next Sunday :)

I'm live now anyway:

Four In February challenge, I done made you my bitch.

Games beaten in February:

Feb 01 - Duke Nukem Forever

Feb 02 - Portal 2

Feb 05 - Bastion
Game was kinda bleh for me for a good portion of it, and then suddenly, it clicked with me and I was having fun. Not sure why it took me so long to get into it, but thanks to the 4inFeb challenge, I stuck with it long enough for it to get fun. I might go back and play a new game+ at some point.

Though the narrator got a little bit tiresome at times. I don't know why he needed to tell me everything going on in the game. The kid bends over to tie his shoes, and the narrator tells me about it. Plus he sounded like he just stepped out of Robbie Robertson's clone chamber. I kept expecting him to tell me what was going on somewhere down that crazy river.

Feb 09 - Mirror's Edge
I had to force myself to finish this. If it weren't for the 4inFeb challenge, I might've just quit the game. I give them credit for doing something a little different. But I guess parkouring across rooftops while psychopaths shoot at me just isn't my thing. Game had an interesting visual esthetic though.

Time to go for some extra credit. I'm gonna knock off as many games from my backlog as I can in the remainder of the month. I'm gonna run through a couple of the really short 2Deep4U games that have been in humble bundles recently (To The Moon, Dear Esther, Proteus) to get me started.

I might actually stand a chance at this. I thought I had no shot, as I'm playing Morrowind, but I might "finish" that soon. It's hard to tell when you're done with a game like that, but I'm head of the Thieve's Guild, Morag Tong, Fighter's Guild, House Hlauu, Imperial Legion, and getting there with the Mages' Guild and Temple. In the middle of the main quest right now. 120 hours in...getting there...

Well if we're posting Four in Feb in this thread...

I'm happy to say I got my achievement before The End.  Last night I finished my fourth.

  1. Max Payne 3
  2. Shufflepuck Cantina*
  3. Darkness II
  4. Hydrophobia Prophesy

*I've beaten everyone but the last boss which requires a crazy freemium grind to unlock.  I've played 14 hours and am #2 on CAG-leaderboards.  It's done.

I wasn't actually trying to do the 4-in-Feb... I was just looking to clear some disk space, and was in my rare mood of wanting/willing to play a shooter.

If Hydrophobia didn't have it's curiosity-reputation I don't think I'd have finished it, however knowing it was short helped... still they should have just eliminated the second act.

Yes! That's the thing. If not exactly that (though I think it was) then something very similar. [Edit: The linked Wiki says the first opened in Chicago in 1990 so that must have been it]

Haha... watching that, they mention that each console is powered by four linked computers boasting a total of 16mb of RAM.

* No, its not.

Has anyone yet noted that the Holiday Helpings Groupees bundle added Steam keys for Ethan: Meteor Hunter? You know, the one with the Doctor Who games.

Well for me, once you've finished the main quest, you should be able to call the game beaten. Obviously you could spend hours upon hours doing other crap in the game if you wanted. But if the main quest completion isn't the point where you can rightly say you beat the game, I sure as hell don't know where the "beaten" point would be.

Yeah, I saw you post about beating Hydrophobia Prophecy last night. I still had one level to go on Mirror's Edge, so you definitely finished the goal before me.

I didn't realize Hydrophobia Prophecy was supposed to be that short. I might throw that on the "to do" list.

Days ago. Were you on another bender again?
Oh. Yeah, I ended up parkouring with some friends and hurt my shoulder when I rolled wrong out of a double kong. Drinking copious amounts later on at the strip club allowed me to forget about it until I woke up this afternoon. Too many things are hurting, and I don't know what's going on.

That's called a STD. You should probably take a Plan B just to be safe.

It's not a Castlevania game, fyi.
That's what I thought too. So I cant really compare it to the original Castlevania hence my ignorace.

I tired checking the review in IGN but that site required me to enabled alot of permission from noscript just to see the damn text.

I really don't remember that much about it... there's at least one CAG who likes it. Reviews paint it as competent but not a Castlevania game (and really, it's the side-scrollers that were the real Castlevania games -- I could probably dig up NES save-strings if I tried.) Given it's mixed reception, I'm expecting it's price to drop rather quickly... I'm holding out for $5.

People say it's a "God Of War clone" but it's really a lot like the N64 Castlevania games done with far better technology. Take that however you will. I liked and played through both of those and played quite a bit of Lords Of Shadow. Of course I far prefer the 2-D platformers myself.

Last time I played Castlevania is in NES.[/quote]You've missed some good times.

4 For February so far...

Pokemon X - Complete

AC Liberation - Getting there...

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons - In progress

Nah, I dont think so. I grew up with nes, sega then pc and an occasional ps1. Im not really into console since I got my 1st IBM.
At the very least, you missed Castlevania: Symphony of the Night on PlayStation. I'm glad I hung onto my copy as it's regarded as a true classic.

Four In February challenge, I done made you my bitch.
I ran into a complication, after I beat the first game on my list ,Bioshock I couldn't help starting Bioshock 2 instead of moving on to finish my planned in-progress games. Not sure if I'll be able to complete 4 in feb but I'm still giving it my best.

I'll be lucky if I get to beat a game anytime soon. Been trying to play Persona 4 but "things" get in the way. Still haven't finished my first game of the year.

I love the Hell out of that game. Wish I had a physical copy. I've just got the digital PSN copy my roommate bought.

4 for February list for me

1) Warframe on PS4(technically no end but I got all of the trophies)

2) The Wolf Among Us Episode 2 on PS3(really damn good)

Working on

3) Mass Effect 2 on PS3(already beat the whole series on Xbox 360)

4) Metro: Last Light on PS3(close to the end)

Oh and 4 for February:

Completed:

1. To the Moon

2. Sleeping Dogs

Working on:

3. Brothers A Tale of Two Sons

Final:

Either Prince of Persia (2008) - about halfway complete, but it's dragging...  Or Bulletstorm

I didn't like Castlevania LoS at all. Granted, I'm not a fan of the button masher genre, but it didn't appeal to me at all. The last game in the genre I played and enjoyed was Lollipop Chainsaw.
