This thread has been replaced by TSDT v11

Daily Deal:
Please check the Steam homepage.

Weeklong Deals:
Steam usually has week-long deals that change on Mondays at 6PM UTC. They mostly feature indie games, and may not run every week.

Sale summary lists:

Key:
⤷ indicates DLC, — specifies part of a pack, + shows alternative versions, ⚠ highlights things worth knowing, ♫ is obvious, and ... denotes a multi-pack.

Holiday Sale 2013 | 19/12/13 through 3/1/14:
Days 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12, 13-14.

Spring/Autumn Sale 2013 | 27/11/13 through 3/12/13:
All days.

Steam deals on other stores: (Related threads on CAG.)

Indie* bundle threads: (*Not always indie, nor always a bundle.)

Free stuff:
There are quite a few free games (mostly Free to Play) and mods available via the Steam platform, a comprehensive list of which can be found in this thread on the SPUF.
(NOTE: free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.)

I just had an excellent trade with r9800pro from the Steam/Origin/Desura etc Trade/Sell/Buy Thread, and it put me in a really good mood. So, you guys get the benefits and can have these, and be sure to thank that most Caggly of CAG's when you see him:

Bully: Scholarship Edition
NCZZ6-7VCGX-PVQPH
Midnight Club II
KNV3M-6AXWQ-XGHMZ
Got Bully by way of Spoder giving me a heads up. Big thanks to you for the giveaway, I loved it on PS2 and am really excited to finally replay it on PC ^_^

I was just watching a Smallville episode on the DVR and I was wondering. . . does anyone else find Tori Spelling a bit hideous, with that oddly-elongate face and enormous lips? She seems a bit like a young-ish female John Kerry with collagen.

She's fairly hideous, and only famous because of her father. I can't really watch anything with her because she's so off-putting. I'd rather date Alexis Arquette.

In for 1 Flying Bundle.  The only game I already had was Hack Slash Loot on Steam.

I'll just put that code here: T6IWK-4KEPK-00YHX

It has cards.

Hmm, the Desura version of that Hacker thing apparently isn't available yet.

Oh well, I guess that happens.  I'm sure it will be there by the time the bonus game shows up.

According to steam's time played stats CAG's resident Brit has logged an insane 60+ hours into this little game. Not good if you want to work on the backlog.

Edit: Neither's any good

Um, wow. I had to look her up, but I'm sure sorry I did. Yeesh.

I only watched Smallville to see Allison Mack.
Believe it or not, I watch it for the story. I'm catching up on the last couple of seasons (er, about 3 seasons, I guess) that I missed which are now airing on TBS or TNT. I saw "Requiem" last night and almost cried (yes, I'm a sentimental nerd, the worst kind).

I was half-joking. I didn't watch the whole series, but I did watch a few seasons of it for the story. Arrow is a much better series though. Smallville is too.. childish.

Heads up:

Amazon will have Rogue Trooper on sale for $1.49 in a few minutes. It comes with a Steam key, and 1.49 is the historical low. I expect it will sell out in a matter of minutes, if not seconds, so get your clicking finger ready on that buy button.

HERE IS A LINK.
Someone tell me if this is worth buying for EC credit so I don't end up blowing $1.49 on a potentially crappy game lol.

Almost nobody plays it. And none of my CAG Steam friends have played it, not even Severose. Apparently it also doesn't work in wide screen, was released in 2006, and takes up 3 gigs. Yeah, I'm gonna pass regardless.

Severose doesn't play games ;). I'm really tempted to get it. I don't think the Steam version has been this cheap before.

Arrow seems decent. I haven't formed an opinion because I somehow missed a chunk of the end of the first season.

Dark Souls was $5.99 just yesterday :)

I'm a bit tempted by Enslaved and Pac Man CE DX as they are both on my wish list... but ugh 50%.

The only game I'd pay 50% for at this point (must play list) is Typing of the Dead.  I'm not sure I'd play Enslaved right away although I love it, since I already beat it on PS3.

tempted, but it sounds too hard/frustrating and I'll probably be too intimidated to ever play it.
I've not spent allot of time with Dark Souls on the 360, never found the time to set down and play it, but I did spend a fair amount of time on the predecessor... Demon's Souls. *I likely would have spent more time, maybe even hung around to beat it, but the game literally caused pain in my left wrist/hand from holding the shield button so much...

Anyhow, their can be frustration but the game is extremely fair in how it presents its challenge... Don't get me wrong their can be some cheap deaths because you didn't know what to expect but not as many as you usually see in a game that's labeled as hard. The biggest thing in that game is you never got forced to proceed forward if you didn't want too... You could go through the same environments over and over again and grind XP and whatnot.

Not sure how much of this is in the sequel... As I said I didn't spend much time with it, it came out in a busy time and I was a bit disappointed in not being able to rebind keys... Not sure what you can and cannot do in the PC version.

Consider BF is nearly upon us...  I could use some opinions on Win 8.1 vs Win 7.  Current PC is Win 7 but with me upgrading soon I'm going to likely need a new copy.

I've not heard too much good about WIn 8, heard better (but not great) things about 8.1, and I do know that Win 8 can actually increased performance in games...  Not a huge amount, mind you, but it does help...

Anyhow, if they are the same price would you go win 7 or win 8?  (and why.)

If building a new rig, I see no reason not going to 8.1. It's not without it's learning curve in the new UI, however. Not much of of difference to the average user beyond the UI.

I've not even started playing my gold version of Civ 5 yet.. but I'm actually really tempted by this expansion pack. I'm sort of a sucker for the American Civil War and they have a scenario that focuses on it. (For those who do play allot of Civ... How long do the scenarios last and how replayable are they?)

Also does anyone know how long the Gamefly sale will go on for...?

Hm. Is BSI good at $8 or should I wait for $5?

Yes and maybe? Depends on your backlog and when you intend to play it, but I suspect $5 may be a ways out, possibly after all the DLC is released early-middle next year.

I use 8.1 on my main PC and like it well enough honestly. Some of the UI quirks took some getting used to, but overall I have no real problems with it and it runs without any noticeable hiccups. That said there also isn't much point in switching from 7 other than it being newer and as such supported longer (presumably). 7 still has better program support (though most stuff works fine on 8/8.1, there are a few things that are known not to, you should check Microsoft's compatibility site to make sure they aren't ones you often use), and while some of the features and apps for 8 are cool, there is little that can't be done on 7 as well.

Given the choice, I'd probably go with 8 simply because of the before mentioned support window likely being longer, but otherwise I don't have any tangible reasons to pick it over 7.

No weekly or midweek deals is sorta a giveaway; Valve couldn't be that lazy for no reason right...right?

Windows 8/8.1 + Classic Shell is all you really need to get back to your typical W7 experience.

I guess I should bite on BNW for $8. I keep telling myself "No Civ 5 until BNW goes on sale". I can't imagine it dropping any lower for the Steam sale.

Agreed about Windows 8.

I picked up a new laptop recently and personally chose 8 over 7 largely due to RAM limits. Most copies of 7 that are pre-installed are Home Basic or Premium and so without going to Professional, your maximum RAM limit is only 16GB with a Home Premium 64x.

Windows 8 however even with just the basic package at 64x maxes out at 128GB.

That may not be a big concern for most but as an animator I kind of need as much RAM as possible and so it was cheaper just to get 8 and get used to its quirks.

And in terms of the no weeklies and stuff yes I suppose that was a silly blind oversight on my part and should have put two and two together :dunce:

Agree with this. Have been using Windows 8 for about 6 months, and with Classic Shell, I get a comfortable Windows desktop experience. I rarely have to deal with the new UI. Performance has been very good as well. Support for newer hardware like SSD drives is there natively as well.
