New Thread:

This thread has been replaced by TSDT v11

Daily Deal:
Please check the Steam homepage.

Weeklong Deals:
Steam usually has week-long deals that change on Mondays at 6PM UTC. They mostly feature indie games, and may not run every week.

Sale summary lists:

Key:
⤷ indicates DLC, — specifies part of a pack, + shows alternative versions, ⚠ highlights things worth knowing, ♫ is obvious, and ... denotes a multi-pack.

Holiday Sale 2013 | 19/12/13 through 3/1/14:
Days 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12, 13-14.

Spring/Autumn Sale 2013 | 27/11/13 through 3/12/13:
All days.

Steam deals on other stores: (Related threads on CAG.)

Indie* bundle threads: (*Not always indie, nor always a bundle.)

Free stuff:
There are quite a few free games (mostly Free to Play) and mods available via the Steam platform, a comprehensive list of which can be found in this thread on the SPUF.
(NOTE: free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.)

I use 8.1 on my main PC and like it well enough honestly. Some of the UI quirks took some getting used to, but overall I have no real problems with it and it runs without any noticeable hiccups. That said there also isn't much point in switching from 7 other than it being newer and as such supported longer (presumably). 7 still has better program support (though most stuff works fine on 8/8.1, there are a few things that are known not to, you should check Microsoft's compatibility site to make sure they aren't ones you often use), and while some of the features and apps for 8 are cool, there is little that can't be done on 7 as well.

Given the choice, I'd probably go with 8 simply because of the before mentioned support window likely being longer, but otherwise I don't have any tangible reasons to pick it over 7.
I mostly agree with this, but 8/8.1 is kind-of a weird experience to walk into from 7 and all of its predecessors. Personally I'd be inclined to go with 7 because it will be very familiar and it's a pretty fast and stable environment to work and play in. I upgraded to 8 back when MS was handing out cheap upgrades but it does take a bit of getting used to. If you're actually one of those people who uses a tablet or hybrid tablet/laptop PC, then 8 might be a better experience but it's still a bit peculiar for desktops.

Depends on if you're gonna play it immediately. If you're gonna backlog it, wait for $5.
Nope, I'm BLing that like a fool. So I guess I'll wait.

I'm oddly tempted by that IR, mostly because of Al Emmo. Has that been bundled before?

Nope.. but:

Al Emmo is the standout in this bundle. If that's the only game you want, it'll probably be in a future Groupees bundle.. it got added to their greenlight collection page recently:

I guess I should bite on BNW for $8. I keep telling myself "No Civ 5 until BNW goes on sale". I can't imagine it dropping any lower for the Steam sale.
Famous last words. And thanks for confirming it will hit 85% off for the rest of us sometime in the next week.

Hm. Is BSI good at $8 or should I wait for $5?
I love BS and BS2... but I wish I'd waited until BSI hit $5 instead of pre-ordering (something I almost never do). It still has at least one more DLC to come, so it may be a while, but it might be better to hold out for a future GOTY bundle or something.

$8 is a decent price for Bioshock:I. Once you start waiting for those all-inclusive DLC bundles, you can end up waiting a loooooong time. Skyrim Legendary still hasn't gone under $20. Also, certain games become almost impossible to buy without the DLC, like Max Payne 3.

Personally, I think it's probably worthwhile to wait at least through the December/January sales to see if it will drop a bit more.

Yes, absolutely worth 8 bucks.

Although, most games for CAGs aren't necessarily about what the game is worth:

Dark Souls is worth more than the six dollars I spent on it yesterday

Max Payne complete pack is worth more than the 7 I spent

etc

This comes down to how bad you want to play it - do you want to buy BI because you want to play it now or in the next few weeks? Or do you want to buy it because you think 8 bucks is a good deal, and you're planning on getting to it later.

If it's the former, pick it up. The latter...wait. It just came out in March/April, don't remember, and it's already 8 bucks. It'll drop soon enough.

This is a good point...GOTY editions are great for games you have a precursory interest in, but I can't imagine waiting that long for things like Borderlands 2, or Skyrim (jesus, they just came out w/a complete edition this summer...nearly two years after it got released. and the cheapest that's ever been is 20 bucks). Personally, I'm hoping to get BI/the season pass for less than 22.50 total the next month. Doubt I'll get it, but I'm okay w/that.

This is a great point that people need to consider. Many of these games are WORTH the full $60. They are amazing experiences that showcase years of hard work put in by tons of people. It somewhat disgusts me when people complain over things being a dollar or two cheaper later. Like I mean I know this is CAG but when you are getting games so cheap already...

I do not mean to say not to try and get the best deal, I am simply agreeing and hoping that people keep a better perspective of a games true WORTH and not how much you pay for it.

I've only been involved with the last summer sale as far as big steam sales go, how big is the autumn sale in comparison?

The winter sale is a separate sale?

Am I reading this right?

Does this mean I can get Sims 3 Pets Origin for $1 tomorrow? I'd be all over that.

<---noob
Fall/Autumn/BF sale usually isn't quite as big as the Summer/Winter sales, but it's still right up there. Yes, the Winter/Holiday/New Year sale is seperate.

This is basically where I'm at. Once I buy something then that's what it is worth to me and I should just forget about it being cheaper down the line. Really everything will at some point costs lest than what you paid for it, so drawing the line somewhere is something that most of us should be remembering (which I'm certainly guilty of NOT doing, but no one's perfect).

All of this sucks...except possibly wolf among us. Buying wolf among us and getting FC3/AC3 isn't a terrible deal.
TWAU is fantastic, really I wouldn't have minded paying full price even after only the first episode. I put up a review on Steam for those that want more info, but really it's definitely worth picking up sooner than later (you don't want spoilers, and I'm sure they will be/are flying around).

I'm definitely debating picking it up. Paired w/Far Cry 3 in that deal, it's not bad. You can certainly do worse than averaging 12.50 for Far Cry 3 and Wolf Among Us. I'll see how the Steam sale turns up first.

Well said. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I think we all should take a few minutes and read some of the console-oriented Black Friday threads.

Related: What the fuck are skylanders?

Lol...good point.

A year ago I only had an Xbox. If you were to tell me at this time next year I'd be able to get Bioshock Infinite for 8 bucks, I'd have creamed my pants 19 times consecutively

Edit: Do you really not know what skylanders are?

They're the most successful non COD franchise activsion has

It's like disney infinity, except it came first. It's for kids.

Am I the only one who kind of hopes that they get us hyped up and then just put up a normal midweek/daily combo? I think it would be funny. I know the signs don't point to that, but I would be thoroughly entertained.

I didn't realize some people enjoy getting blue balled.

Or you could get WAU from a reseller on the trade thread for $15 and then get FC3 for $7.50 from Amazon with the additional $5 EC credit. That's what I'd do if I had to have WAU right now and wasn't waiting to buy FC3 with Steambux or EC credit in January.

I wonder if the webserver over at Valve flips out about 2 minutes before 1PM, like every year before it. This thread will gain 4 pages of just....steam crashed/down posts.

That's probably a thing.

Isn't that mandatory? I will flip out, regardless of the fact I know it will happen and that it will be alright.

Yay - quoting myself for elaborating my point. (is there an achievement for that?)

I just didn't like BS:I so, to me, waiting a loooong time for a cheap GOTY or $5 pricepoint would be okay. That's in retrospect, of course. ;)

Also: woo Autumn Sale!

Well nothing in the dailies for me. Even without knowing the discounts I either own or don't care about the remaining games.

I like the spring/autumn thing they did with it. Spring upside down at the bottom of the screen. Smartasses.

It does seem after a number of years of the page flatout crashing on sale open they may have finally fixed it.
