Daily Deal:
Please check the Steam homepage.

Weeklong Deals:
Steam usually has week-long deals that change on Mondays at 6PM UTC. They mostly feature indie games, and may not run every week.

Sale summary lists:

Key:
⤷ indicates DLC, — specifies part of a pack, + shows alternative versions, ⚠ highlights things worth knowing, ♫ is obvious, and ... denotes a multi-pack.

Holiday Sale 2013 | 19/12/13 through 3/1/14:
Days 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12, 13-14.

Spring/Autumn Sale 2013 | 27/11/13 through 3/12/13:

Steam deals on other stores: (Related threads on CAG.)

Indie* bundle threads: (*Not always indie, nor always a bundle.)

Free stuff:
There are quite a few free games (mostly Free to Play) and mods available via the Steam platform, a comprehensive list of which can be found in this thread on the SPUF.
(NOTE: free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.)

I was playing Ethan Meteor Hunter and Steam decided to update the game while I was playing, which isn't possible so it kept looping the update and causing massive framerate slowdown/stuttering in the game. I guess Steam's FAKE CAG alert went off to try to stop me from playing a game. I should know better.
Actually... I'm in an alpha test for an upcoming game (those of you who've seen me "In-game" without a game name showing - that's why) and the game started updating while I was playing. It was pretty weird. I had to quit the game fast, I wasn't sure if it would mess up my save.

It wouldn't be much trouble...

Yay, Butcher Joyce. I really liked him in the Darkness comics. He was such a nice guy and always treated Jackie like his favorite nephew.

^_^ I've been playing it in the last few days. I'm really digging it. The story is really fleshed out (I suppose due to the comic material). A lot of small touches were put into it, from minor side discussions, to listening to the radio at length.

all MMOs i've played are kinda boring imo

the content just has to be stretched too thin to keep you coming back

i guess it's more about the social aspects but i never got into any deep enough to make it meaningful
If you find one you like the gameplay of, there are quite a few with a lot of content and frequent updates. I used to be into Maple Story (which has become dated as all hell), but it was amusing with the platformer/RPG gameplay, and constant updates, and thankfully all the cash stuff was just cosmetic.

Then there's something like TSW... which is more or less a single player RPG that's driven by story and it possible to play with friends.

So I was on the Steam Market and AVG caught an "Exploit Kit". AVG's website says that "During the last 7 days potentially active malware was detected on this website and a subdomain." on steamcommunity.com.

Interesting.

AVG is essentially the Lost Planet of Anti Virus software so that makes sense

You're giveaway sucks!!! I'm not asking for BF4, but Shufflepuck Cantina is a shitty freemium mobile game that's a total grind and no AA jaggies make my eyes bleed more than more than a weeping christ statue. And If I have to listen to that goddamn Ohnonononono frelling alien squirrel thing again I'm going to club a whole creche of baby seals to a messy death and then start on the penguin chicks because the ported this PoS to linux.

I already have this PoS on Steam, but I demand a free copy for my alt-account so I can idle for cards there and then burn them. I'm fuck ing tired of spoder and lostnumber getting everything... I have a mountain of posts and profile views and I demand the special treatment I deserve. So give me the damn game already, else I'll rage about it after every post you make in any thread on CAG...
You won the giveaway because well you scared me..

Pm me Ashes if you really want the game. Otherwise I will give it to the first person who quoted this post.

It hasn't been eight hours for another 28 minutes. You ended it early, denying me the chance to win.

(How's that for an entitled post?)

I didn't actually want it.

Don't cross me.

Sorry, but the clock tick faster here in the desert.

Since this is not a game, I wont have to worry giving up my CAG membrship. I'm using Kaspersky for a decade now.
You know, I had that for a year and hated it. It gave me this false positive warning one time because of one of their own updates and i had spend a day trying to fix it.

Avast gave me nothing but problems, Avira rams ads down your throat constantly, and AVG's biggest problem is false positives (which honestly isn't that big of a deal, and takes a few clicks to allow something). I use it with MalwareBytes and have never had any problems.

Spoder knows best, though, so I'm sure he'll jump in to tell me how stupid I am for using it, right after he gives us the real scoop on Razer merchandise and tells us the lineup for Be Mine 48.

The only FAR one I see right now on Newegg is Bitdefender.  Anyone have experience with that?  I think they have a lifetime Malware Bytes for $15 after coupon.  I actually haven't had any virus issues with AVG or Avast, but just wondering if there's anything genuinely wrong with either.

That's too bad. I haven't experienced anything like that though. And it saved me a lot of times, back in the day I'm hunting nocd fix. My only complain with Kaspersky that time is it take so much resources that I have to turn it off when Im playing games. But this past five years, I didn't notice any slowdown. (or maybe I just have a better cpu and gpu this time.)

What's the point behind paying for one anyways? Say I paid for AVG... what would I get? A firewall to go on top of Windows firewall and screw up multiplayer games? That's appealing.

I don't remember ever gettin a virus with Avast, but I didn't like the setup of it and it was a pain for online games. Avira is great as far as not interfering with games, but the ads were fucking ridiculous, so I switched to AVG and honestly haven't had any problems, virus or with online games, ever since.

Don't fix what ain't broken, imo. And don't be a dummy, torrent your porn.

I haven't run into a client using BitDefender in about a year or two, but it was always garbage when I did. I just stick with the free AVG or MSE, and run MBAM/SuperAntiSpyware from time to time.

Yeah, I'm leaning towards this. Now that you mention it, I think it was gaming why I switched from Avast. AVG runs fine and I was just reading PC Mag and it got top free AV for 2014. Bitdefender was top 4 paid too though so that was kind of interesting too.

Is there any good AV for blocking/warning stuff like phishing/spamming email and scanning attachments in emails? My dad recently got his email hijacked because he clicked on one of those fake "password changed" emails. I have Avast installed on his so I guess it doesn't block that sort of stuff.

I don't see the need for virus protection for the most part...the only thing I use my desktop for is games, don't even boot the internet up, except to go on Netflix. So I don't see myself getting a virus on that. My laptop is pretty shitty, it was only 300 bucks. And I watch all my porn through Bing, since it hosts videos there, which I think would cut down on the risk a bit.

that said i have avg on my laptop, although i havent ran a scan in months

AVG free has email protection. I use Gmail though, so I have no idea how good it is.

I've tried tons of different programs and setups, but right now all I use is MSE + scanning with Hitman Pro, Malware Bytes, and SuperAntiSpyware. It's definitely my favorite combo I've ever done and I haven't run into any problems/viruses slipping through so far.

Most of the problems I had with various AV a couple years ago were a result of them being too much for the target computers. PC Doctor, BitDefender, Norton, Mcafee, Kaspersky mostly.

It's not that they are neccesarily better, but PCs are better equipped to handle them now since you pretty much can't buy a machine with less than 4GB of RAM from Best Buy nowadays. So that's a good thing.

The email hijack thing is tough, I've never really seen a good AV pull that off, since those websites usually are using 0day exploits and the URL changes daily. You have to remember when they design those phishing attacks they are designing them to bypass AV products.

Speaking of Malwarebytes, their software is moving to a subscription model shortly following the release of 2.0. They will continue to honor existing lifetime licenses, so, if you're interested, you might want to get it soon.

The bad news is that Malwarebytes is moving to a subscription licensing model that runs $24.95 per year (valid for up to 3 PCs).

"As more and more people have come to rely on us for malware protection and cleanup, our costs in bandwidth, hosting fees, infrastructure, salaries of our researchers, QA department, and more have grown immensely," Malwarebytes explained in a forum post. "Though our company is about more than just making money, we are a company and we do have to make money to pay our staff to continue doing what they love, which is fighting malware. The subscription model will help us to be sustainable for the future while staying true to our roots that we will always make malware cleanup free for everyone."

f you already purchased a lifetime license for version 1.x, Malwarebytes says it will also apply to version 2.x. There will also be a few thousand more lifetime licenses offered when version 2.0 launches.
