This thread has been replaced by TSDT v11

Daily Deal:
Please check the Steam homepage.

Weeklong Deals:
Steam usually has week-long deals that change on Mondays at 6PM UTC. They mostly feature indie games, and may not run every week.

Sale summary lists:

Key:
⤷ indicates DLC, — specifies part of a pack, + shows alternative versions, ⚠ highlights things worth knowing, ♫ is obvious, and ... denotes a multi-pack.

Holiday Sale 2013 | 19/12/13 through 3/1/14:
Days 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12, 13-14.

Spring/Autumn Sale 2013 | 27/11/13 through 3/12/13:
All days.

Steam deals on other stores: (Related threads on CAG.)

Indie* bundle threads: (*Not always indie, nor always a bundle.)

Free stuff:
There are quite a few free games (mostly Free to Play) and mods available via the Steam platform, a comprehensive list of which can be found in this thread on the SPUF.
(NOTE: free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.)

Wow @ That Zombies. guy still being a dick:

Props to Fred Woods, developer of the recently released Love, standing up for bundle buyers:
The other stupid thing is that between so many bundles he threw it in, some of us actually probably paid full price for the game. I got it in a Groupees, Indiefort, Indiegala and also bought it on Indie Gamestand. And let's be real, that thing looks and plays like a .99 cent Android game.

Well I think I finished all the games I'll finish for Feb. Beat the Plan as was suggested on this thread and finally beat Tomb Raider 2013 today. That brings me to 8 in Feb. That's more games beat in 1 month than probably the last 2 years for me. I feel so accomplished.

in case you want your 5th copy of hero siege, bundle bandits has a new bundle http://www.bundlebandits.com/
And it's only 1,50 dollars!

Seriously what do they have against usin' da "."

Side note: After suffering through Condemned: Criminal Origins yesterday, I tried to move on with another game today...which is Lara Croft: Guardian of Light. It's very enjoyable...I highly recommend it.

Well that just cost IGS a lot of business. Well not a lot, they would have to have a lot to lose a lot. This always boggles my mind. You have people with games on Steam already giving out Steam keys in bundles, so I don't know why these greenlight people ever think somehow people are asking for too much when their game gets greenlit. These bundles are the only reason you probably had enough money to stay afloat until you got on Steam.

i see ddetirue now i follow u muhah uah

IndieGamestand's stance is not a problem to me. Zombies was one of their first promos and far before they promised Steam keys with everything like they do these days. The issue should really just be about companies that promised keys.

Nah, not really. I thought the basis of the plot was weak...probably could've pretty easily proved his innocence, but no, he decided to run and chase the killer on his own. I also thought the controls were REALLY clunky, and all the levels were "kill some psycho dudes, oh no there's a door that's locked and you need an axe to break down so go find the axe and come back." I thought the combat was pretty poopy, and there's something about Monolith's horror action games' atmosphere that I just can't get into.

Crap, just noticed that this is the last day of Ubisoft deals.

No Call of Juarez 75% off deals =/
FIne, used my wallet on Assassin's Creed Directors Cut and Savant instead.

I'll wait for the next Call of Juarez Bound in Blood 50% off sale. I'm kinda burned out on Call of Juarez for now anyways after just recently finishing it.

I often don't recommend playing the same genre two-in-a-row, never-mind even entertaining the thought of the same exact series two-in-a-row!

Heh... I tried Dishonored after finishing FC3 and Hitman: Absolution and realized that I just didn't have it in me to crouch-walk stealthily through yet another game. Never did pick it back up after quitting maybe an hour in.

Oh yeah, those doors, they killed the flow. Sorry you didn't dig the game.

If you're not hung up on the moral implications (which for Dishonored are pretty vague) it perfectly playable as a panther or full on murderfest. I played it using the former tactic and plan to replay it using the latter. I'm not much for full on stealth.

I almost completely stealthed it and found it quite fun. I'm not sure if I'll revisit it someday for a more stabby playthrough.

So far that dev is the only one that has refused to give keys. Most everyone is either too clueless and turns around after they understand how keys are distributed, or once they're yelled at for days in the forums. You'd think they'd all know by now...

I understand IGS' position in the matter. They can't force a dev to give keys. Nobody can.

But that doesn't mean they can't talk shit about them either... One of their tweets amounts to "Cool devs are okay with giving keys."

Anyway, update.

I tried playing as a panther and I was able to do it for a few missions...

...but, man - it often would turn out to be a murder-fest for me. ;)

Dammit - when's all that Dishonored DLC gonna drop in price?

I've come to the conclusion that indie game developers know nothing about the gaming community or how things work even when they are agreeing to be in bundles or have their game on a particular store and really should be reading the fine print and educating themselves.

I think they're in their own little microcosm and just don't get how stuff works. Some are quick studies and others are dense while there are a few who even try to pull one over. It doesn't help either with these promotion groups and small time publishers get involved and add another party into the mix.

Opening the Greenlight floodgates has just brought this more to light.

Sometimes I feel like I am constantly needing to be a Steam key crusader and an educator of ignorant indie developers and it gets tiresome.

Wow that tweet from that twat is ridiculous.

There's no reason not to give them Steam keys. They bought your stupid game already. What, do you want them to buy it again to get a Steam key? If an indie dev refused to provide a Steam key, but I had bought their game and still wanted to play it...I'd just add it to Steam as a non-Steam game, not buy it again. The amount of lost profit you get from people willing to buy a game a second time from a developer who screwed them just to get a Steam key probably doesn't really outweigh the shit you have to deal with for being a douche, does it?

Edit: I just remembered that time an indie dev who made Pickle Frenzy was in the CAG forums and Sunasun called his game Penis Frenzy and the dev got all pissed, lol. Good times.

It could've been worse... at least he didn't try to pull off the whole "It's a new game!!11" schtick other devs have used as an excuse. Legally, he's not obligated to give anyone keys.

I'm just pretty disappointed at this whole mess.

I sure as heck am gonna steer clear of this guy's future projects unless he gets a serious attitude adjustment...

I think all indie devs should get a "free p.r. director," AKA bounce their decisions off a friend or two, so that way whenever they're gonna do something douchey one of their friends could be like "yo dude, that's a bit douchey," and it might save them from this type of kerfuffle.

He kind of did.. he originally refused to give Steam keys because he "added new content" to the game or something. I forgot his exact words.. I think he deleted the tweet.

EDIT: Looks like you saw it.

They're a special breed. I feel like we need Indie Game The Movie 2: Electric Boogaloo.

In all seriousness, many of them do need a PR person. And most of their friends would probably just side with them and tell them they are right based on Twitter activity I've seen in these situations.

Valve is giving them their 15 minutes of fame and a lot of them just can't handle it, aren't good with customer service, aren't good with marketing and a fair bit of them just aren't good with people.

It's very simple.  If you really have new content then just release it as DLC or release two versions of the game - standard and deluxe.  Bundlers get the standard and then can purchase the deluxe upgrade or something.  That's actually the smart way to go about it if he was concerned about revenue and it limits the complaints since you get the game you bought in the bundle and you have the option to upgrade to the deluxe or complete or whatever.

re: Bundle Bandits

Well if nothing else it's a cheaper way to get Nightmares from the Deep if you don't want or already have the rest of the stuff in the Groupees Capsule bundle which probably won't have a happy hour.

I liked Nightmares from the Deep. It's actually one of the rare games I've finished lately. If you like hidden object games it's probably one of the better ones, albeit a bit cheesy but they all kind of are. Plus is has cards so there's that.

This explains your pinball scores... ;)

I probably should do a murderfest playthrough... I got part way into that game and lost traction...

Oh my god he DID try to pull off the excuse...

:speaktothehand:

And not that anyone cares, I just beat Dust an Elysian Tail with 29/30 achievements. All I'm missing is beating the game in Hard. I'll get back to the game in a month or two.
<Cough> Gas Guzzlers </Cough>

You can 100% Dust in one playthough by just playing on hard (don't worry, it's not hard).

It always fascinates me when this happens. I guess I just love seeing delusional "content creators" having embarrassingly public meltdowns.

Here's what really galls me. The implication here, as I see it, is that if he gives keys to previous buyers, there will be no one left willing to pay $4 or whatever on Steam. Even putting aside how blatantly false that is (yeah, Steam users hate zombies and retro graphics) the obvious retort is - too  fucking bad! The only reason your chintzy-looking game got on Steam is because you were in bundles to begin with. You were literally buying your way onto Steam by being in those bundles, and you got exactly what you wanted, so kindly screw off.

Hmm... with the Greenlight floodgates open, I wonder how important the "likes" are for getting onto steam.  ...I wonder about the longer term viability of greenlight bundles... which is also hurt by d-bag devs reneging on steam keys promises.

He should've promised UPlay keys or Origin keys - then nobody would've cared. ;)

I agree with everything you said but OTOH maybe we should all stop taking the bait and voting for games we know are trash just because there's a promise of a Steam key (and potential for cards). I know I have been guilty of it.

And yeah, putting a zombie game on Steam is basically like a printing press spitting out money.

*Edited to add: Oh and I regularly watch for keys when Greenlight games get added. This sort of thing has happened repeatedly and they almost always do end up giving the keys in the end, but I've never seen it get this much attention or get this many people talking before. fucking zombies.
