Thrift Store Thread 2012
Anyone know what a complete Dirty Harry (nes) goes for ? I check out ebay and amazon but it doesnt seem like the game is rare or any good, however saw a complete one today for $5 didnt bite
well game itself is worth between $2-3 so $5 with the box wasn't too bad. I would had picked it up just because it was Dirty Harry but thats just me

Saw Mass Effect 3 at a Goodwill. Couldn't tell the price but it had double xxs. Didn't want to ask since I figured it would cost more than 20.

I think I have the best luck when im like "mehh i dont think im going to Goodwill today" then I get off my butt and go.

Another fatty PS2- $10, has the cables, kinda dirty, and as usual (well lately) its missing the strip on the disc tray. It always amazes me that people cant take care of their stuff. My NES from 20 years ago works and looks just as good as the day I opened it on Xmas.

PS2 controller- $3

Donkey Kong Land for Gameboy- $3

This cool lookin hockey player statue which might be signed by Kelly Chase, use to play for the St Louis Blues for you non hockey peeps- $2

My goodwill had about 6 or 7 divx movies in cases and everything.

I kind of wanted to pick one up as a gag gift but guess how much they were charging?

$2.99 each!

I politely explained to the manager that they were in no way or shape playable by anyone and that they were not DVDs. Goodwill has a stick up its ass for prices though so they can't change anything. Would have bought them at $1 each or something.

Found this at a Goodwill I don't normally go to yesterday.
photo-10.jpg

$30 for all that.
System and 3 controllers
Street fighter the movie
Fighters megamix
NBA Jam TE, found this underneath one of the other games
Shining Force III!

Also grabbed these from another:
photo-11.jpg

The cleaning kit looks like it was never used and has all the replacement brushes. Will Afterburner run on a Genesis 3? Both only cost $1 and the 12 game N64 holder was $2. Also grabbed a psone with screen but the psone wouldn't spin games and the screen wouldn't put out a picture (tested it on my cousins system).

only thing that could have made that better is if it wasn't those shit generation one controllers. Who bought 3 of those?? fucking horrible. Throw them in the garbage and buy some 2nd gen saturn ccontrollers!

Nice job on the shining force 3 though.

Didn't realize they were bad. I do have a Saturn controller and a third party around here that may be the ones your talking about. They look completely different from that picture.

I went to the location specifically for books and saw that at the check among 2 other games for the total game selection.

My brother's PS2 fat kept having issues with not wanting to eject and he ended up breaking the tray cover off.
Then suddenly the gears freed up and started working perfect.

We still have the casing screws removed so we can just pick the top up to put disks in though ;)

(funny thing is I have probably bought and sold 5+ PS2's in the last couple months and I leave my brother with that piece of crap xD)

Decent morning, nothing great but some solid finds:

Gamecube Controller (first party): 2.99
Pinball Quest (NES) CIB: 1.99
Zelda Manga: .89
Tekken 3: 1.99
Grand Theft Auto 2: 1.99

I've been wanting to get something worthwhile out of Goodwill for some time, but it seems like everything I find is 'good, but not great' when I go. I did see the following in excellent condition (which is quite rare in my experience) that I passed on:

:ps2: Beyond Good and Evil (Non Greatest Hits)
:ps2: Dark Cloud (Greatest Hits)
:ps2: Maximo vs. Army of Zin

Each for $4. Can't tell if I'm being too picky / spoiled, as I used to get games regularly for $1.50 from my local Goodwills. I'm sure there were better games available earlier, as all three games were in great shape and more than likely apart of a larger PS2 collection donated.

I just grabbed Beyond Good and Evil and Dark cloud both :ps2: from gamestop very good condition for 5.99 ea. + tax

Saw a guy with a fatty PS2 in his hands at my closest GW, guess everyone's dumping their PS2s now cus that's the system I'm seeing lately. Hope he was just in there browsing and got lucky cus competition is worse than games just not being donated like I've assumed.

Did end up with a Wii Balance Board with batteries for $5. Older lady said she thought she saw 2 or 3 of them in the blue bins but I didnt see any so who knows. Booted up Wii Fit Plus for the first time in ages and it works just fine.....I love that Ski Jump!

Salvation army by me usually has no systems and crappy games. This weekend there they were 1 fatty PS2 and 3 PS1's. The price? 30 to 50 dollars a pop with controllers and cords. Wonder if these will sell?

Goodwill is even worse with systems. Usually no cords or controllers and laughable prices. Funny thing is they are never there when I return a week or two later.

Yeah. Although you won't particularly buy it. Someone else will. Either a person buys it, it gets transferred, or thrown away.

They are very hit and miss around here. A few months ago I picked up a perfectly working old xbox for $3 at one and last week a Gamecube for $2 at another. And then this weekend another GW had two dirty, beat to utter shit Dreamcasts (no controllers) for $35 and $40 each. The funny thing is, the GW I got the $2 Gamecube from also has another one, with a controller, in the glass case for $30, and a complete mint copy of Mario Party 7 for $.50 (which I picked up). Pricing is so goddamn inconsistent it's funny.

saw the original xbox for $20 no cables at GW

but picked up a bunch of gamecube games at a local thrift store for $3 each
-Batman Vengeance
-Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu
-Crash Nitro Kart
-Teen Titans
-Yu-Gi-Oh! The Falsebound Kingdom
-Sonic Heroes

And Final Fantasy X (PS2), Tomb Raider 2 (PS1), Tomb Raider 3 (PS1)

All CIB

Mario party 7 50 cents is excellent find. That game might actually be pretty close in value to the Gamecube itself.

Sure enough it happened. Got off work early and went by Salvation army. The fatty PS2 and all three PS1's were sold and gone.
picked up Tales of Symphonia gamecube for 1.99
this and mario party 7 for .50

Damn, my local thrift blows

Maddon (insert year between 2002 and 2008) for ps2/xbox/gc for (insert random price of $15-$25 regardless of copies priced differently) and thats all they ever have >.> also the layout is terrible and horrible to get in and out of as the "aisles" are wide enough for a person to side shuffle down

431374_2451799430809_662392452_n.jpg

$120.66 for Mega Man 1-5.
I've asked before and they say they are as is, but that was with typical cheaper games that I rarely find there. If I were to pay an outrageous price, I would bring in my NES and test them out in store.

I do want these though. I own MM4 and possibly MM5 (or MM3?)

Haha guess I missed that one.
Wish I could get some good scores the picture below mine.

it isn't that stupid. that price is about the going rate (though on the high end. you can probably get 1-6 for this price)

Sometime, my stores have those games as well but a dollar more. But usually, the disks are gone. It's either: Someone stole it. Or someone just donated an empty case

The ones in the glass case cost more, obviously, lol.

It's still stupid because A. It's a thrift store, if you want the going rate sell it on eBay. and B. It's still about 30 dollars too expensive even by the standards of the going rate.

i'm not saying it is right. i'm just saying it isn't way off base. i'd never buy it for that price, that is for damn sure.

Thing is we don't expect to pay the going rate for a game at a thrift store/flea market/yard sale. Going rate is for a ebay/dealer

"Spice" orange Gamecube controller- $4

$4 each- complete Players Choice Animal Crossing (with memory card)

complete Metroid Prime,

Super Mario Sunshine (missing booklets),

and a knockoff NES controller that looks almost exactly the same (no Nintendo logo, longer cable)

I know it's not a thrift store per se, but at Game Xchange today I found a copy of the NES rarity Nobunaga's Ambition 2 for 7 dollars, which should be an easy $50 - $60 flip.

Today I got:

Dual Heroes (N64-Curiosity got me, plus, shipping would cost this much): 2.99
Resident Evil 3 (PS1): 2.99
Two N64 Controllers (one regular, one yellow, both first party): 1.99 each
Intellivision system (original, really dirty but works): 9.99

Until this past week, I never knew that Savers was a thrift shop similar to Goodwill and Salvation Army. I had passed them before and thought that they were grocery stores since they seemed much larger. I parked near one the other day and realized my mistake, so I decided to venture on in.

First thing to catch my eye walking in was some older systems in glass displays at the front counter area. They had a PS1 bundled with two controllers and cords for $30, a GameCube with one controller and Mario Double Dash for the same price, and an N64 bundle. The N64 bundle caught my attention because it was marked for $20, it was the green see through design with two see through purple controllers and 4 games that I couldn't see the labels on.

After a few moments I finally got someone to grab it out of the case so I could check out the games. Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Mario Party 2 and Mario Party 3. Score. As I was telling the lady I'd like to purchase it a male employee notices and says "when did we get that, i didnt see that here earlier" The lady tells him she just brought it from the back like 10 minutes ago. He asks me if I was buying it, which I said yes, and he tells me that the GameCube is a better deal if I was into Nintendo because its newer. I laughed a bit and said I wasn't interested in that but he was more than welcome.

I was ready to just be on my way with my find but the guy just kept standing there talking to the cashier and started telling her that they had to have priced the bundle too low because "it would sell for almost $100 on ebay." Im thinking, wow thanks douche. He asked her if he should go ask the manager if the price was right. So finally, I said that if he wanted to go get the manager that'd be fine, because I'd be interested in asking her why an employee was attempting to prevent me from buying something in hopes that he could probably buy it himself.

The cashier laughed, told him that they werent allowed to buy things unless they sat unsold for at least a week anyways and rung me up. He looked a bit mad, so I just smirked and told him to have a nice day.

Everything works fine, the system and games are all pretty clean. One of the controllers has a crappy stick but the other is quite good. I really hope to go back soon and find another good score with that guy working.

I hate people like that and alot of stores have similar policies, but that doesn't stop them from calling up a friend to have them pick it up.

Yeah, I was thinking that too. I guess if something really awesome came through, he could find a way to get it. It reminds me of the one time I dropped by a random Goodwill and a guy I recognized from high school was working. I asked if they get any good games or systems in often and he laughed saying that him and his buddy buy anything like that of value before it ever hits the shelves. I made a mental note to not waste my time with that place.

In a way I guess that could be considered a perk of working in a thrift store, but at the same time it bothers me. It seems comparable to a BB employee buying up that rare collector edition instead of putting it on the shelf. It's not what the store intends for, but unless there's a manager that knows and cares then it will happen.

^^There is a religious thrift store near me and the guy who works there prices and buys the good video games. But yeah there is a guy who used to work at my savers who collects games because they went from 99 cents each to 9.99-49.99 each. He got transferred to another store, so now the games are around 4.99-5.99 each. Still too high for most items.
