Until this past week, I never knew that Savers was a thrift shop similar to Goodwill and Salvation Army. I had passed them before and thought that they were grocery stores since they seemed much larger. I parked near one the other day and realized my mistake, so I decided to venture on in.
First thing to catch my eye walking in was some older systems in glass displays at the front counter area. They had a PS1 bundled with two controllers and cords for $30, a GameCube with one controller and Mario Double Dash for the same price, and an N64 bundle. The N64 bundle caught my attention because it was marked for $20, it was the green see through design with two see through purple controllers and 4 games that I couldn't see the labels on.
After a few moments I finally got someone to grab it out of the case so I could check out the games. Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Mario Party 2 and Mario Party 3. Score. As I was telling the lady I'd like to purchase it a male employee notices and says "when did we get that, i didnt see that here earlier" The lady tells him she just brought it from the back like 10 minutes ago. He asks me if I was buying it, which I said yes, and he tells me that the GameCube is a better deal if I was into Nintendo because its newer. I laughed a bit and said I wasn't interested in that but he was more than welcome.
I was ready to just be on my way with my find but the guy just kept standing there talking to the cashier and started telling her that they had to have priced the bundle too low because "it would sell for almost $100 on ebay." Im thinking, wow thanks douche. He asked her if he should go ask the manager if the price was right. So finally, I said that if he wanted to go get the manager that'd be fine, because I'd be interested in asking her why an employee was attempting to prevent me from buying something in hopes that he could probably buy it himself.
The cashier laughed, told him that they werent allowed to buy things unless they sat unsold for at least a week anyways and rung me up. He looked a bit mad, so I just smirked and told him to have a nice day.
Everything works fine, the system and games are all pretty clean. One of the controllers has a crappy stick but the other is quite good. I really hope to go back soon and find another good score with that guy working.
I hate people like that and alot of stores have similar policies, but that doesn't stop them from calling up a friend to have them pick it up.
