At the bottom of the trade-in values page, you will find this deal. Not great, but if you have a old fatty you're looking to get rid of, it's not bad, considering they give you, what, $20 regularly for an old model? That's an extra $30.

Interesting. I wonder if there is a chance that Gamecrazy offers a better deal sometime soon. Last year, they offered $100 off a 360 for an original xbox.....

Well, if you're looking to get an 80GB model, it's not too bad. The 80GB does have software emulation, but it isn't terrible and many issues get resolved via the firmware updates. So, as long as all or most of your games work...and you have a fat model...this is an all right deal. It's not very good for a slim model, though.

Can you trade it in to get credit towards a used/refurb 60 GB model? If so then that might actually be a good deal all things considered. I haven't any real reason to get a PS3 yet, but I'm wanting one more and more now that they have PS1 remote play with the PSP...that is VERY tempting to me ^_^

It says you need to trade them in towards a 40GB or 80GB model, but you could always try to get someone to put it through on a refurbed 60GB model.

Wow, $50 off $500!

...or you can keep your PS2 and order the PS3 from Amazon for about the same price tax free. :)
i dont see how thisis a deal its only 50 buxs
Because you're getting $30 more on the trade-in then you usually do, if you have an older model PS2.

Is there really a need for the thread crapping all the time around here? Not every deal has to be "OMG, you blew me away." Some of you people tend to scare away new users from posting things, but all they do is end up getting picked-on.

The trade it prices for the PS2's as of Wednesday were $40 for the Fatty and $45 for the Slim. You also get an extra $10 trade credit with qualifying (non-'Cube/GBA) systems, so you're actually losing $5 if you trade in the Slim model using this deal.

Me and my ps2 have had some emotional moments, i wouldnt trade it for 50 buxs!!!

*goes to his ps2 and hughes it*

$30 for a PS2 before the extra $20? I'm happy with my PS2.

Someone must be under the influence of something in Grapevine, TX.

Apply for the Sony Style card off their website and buy the PS3 with that. This deal can virtually knock $150 off the PS3 at GameStop. Take note.

If you can find the 60GB there, then I don't see why anyone would want to keep their PS2 unless they're engaging in illegal affairs.

Does anyone think a better deal regarding PS2 trade ins will be around the corner anytime soon and is it possible that this deal pops up again? I'd like to pick up a PS3 using the PS2 as trade in, but I wasn't expecting to do it so soon. Any idea what Gamecrazy's current value or possible deal in the future might be? GC usually has the best hardware trade in promotions.

Should I pull the trigger on this (deal runs until end of January) or should I wait? Also, they would probably take exception if I wanted to trade in a PS1 dualshock controller with the system, right.....

Because the PS3 makes some games play like ass, maybe? I've seen what Silent Hill(the original) looks like on a PS3 and if given a choice, I'd prefer to play it on a PS1 or PS2, so that way it doesn't enhance the picture to the point where the lead character looks like a blocky mess.

Plus, if I remember correctly from another thread, you have to make your first purchase(of any amount) @ the Sony Style site or one of their B&M stores in order to qualify for the $100 credit.

Because their trade values are total ripoffs, unless you're trading in a non functioning PS2 to a GS which rarely(if ever) tests systems when they take them in. $50 for a PS2? What do they sell the refurbs for?

All the GS near me test the machine like twice, along with the controller and memory cards.
I guess that's bad if you wanna rip them off..?

Well, the ones by me obviously don't test the crap they take in too well and I KNOW FOR A FACT THEY DON'T TEST THE MEMORY CARDS. How do I know? My one buddy just received a lovely used PS2 card for Christmas and the thing is corrupted, he can't save ANYTHING ON IT.

Of course, I kept telling him to 'get a new one, they're only $20', which is the same price one of his parents paid for the bad used one.

As for me, I've traded in 2 PS2 systems that were a little less than perfect. One scratched rings in discs while trying to play them, which I didn't tell them about as I listened to it scratching up the discs they were using to test it with. With the other system, I had JUST cleaned the laser and replaced the warranty seal back onto the system, to get it to read long enough to trade the system in.

This was back when they had the 'trade a system and 2-3 games, get $100 credit' deal about a year or two ago. I traded some games I bought from another GS that were scratched to hell and I only paid $1-3 each for to qualify for the deal. Plus, I think I only paid about $20-25 for the system complete as it was, so I made out like a bandit on that deal.

It definitely pays to know how to mess around with the systems you wanna dump off WHEN a good trade deal comes around. But, if your PS2 still works great and you actually want full BC, skip this deal and try to find a refurb 20 or 60gb.

As far as 'ripping them off', I see it as tit for tat, they give shit for trade in prices, so I give them shitty condition or incomplete or malfunctioning games/systems for trade ins.

Wow 50 for a ps2...i guess thats not too bad, only time i trade in to GS though is when i get stuff from kmart for 2 bucks and it gets 10 there.

You would think that by 7 or 8 years out from the release of the system, that the PS2 chip(s) would be low enough in cost to make EVERY model fully BC. Mind you, the BC isn't really that big of an issue, so much as the upscaling the systems do on those older games.

I tried playing the original Silent Hill on my friends sisters system the other night and the lead character looked like a blocky mess. We were playing it on an HDTV as well, so that may have also contributed to the blocky appearance that I've heard is common for PS1/PS2 games on a PS3.

This is a pretty nice deal, it's a shame I have absolutely no money to help me get the 80GB model...

Hell NO this aint no deal.

$50 for the ability to play 100% of PS2 games, and 99% of the PSX library.

Unless you, absolutely, positively do not plan on playing another PS2/PS1 game again in your life. But then you can't call yourself a gamer.

You can turn upscaling off in options - but don't bother because whenever you shoot in the game you hear a loud screeching sound. If you want to play Silent Hill the ps3 is not an option =(
GameCrazy had the deal where you trade in a PS2 for $100 credit towards a PS3.
I do not know if it is still going on though.
Yeah, that was a little while ago. I think I'm going to pass up this Gamestop deal and wait for something better to possibly come along.

On a related note those who want to trade in your ps2 for a ps3 (but might want your ps2 back at a budget price)...It is HEAVILY RUMORED that when the 3rd ps2 redesign come to America (even smaller and lighter, power brick is built in internally as stated my sony Japan), Sony will be introducing it at a new price point of 100 dollars. This is suppose to happen very soon according to several sources.

Hopefully someone can find this info helpful. Im personally gonna trade in my old phat for the new slim (already have a ps3 40gb model).

Well, I just called Gamecrazy for their trade-in value of the PS2 (original model) and they said $18.......wtf...

Maybe I'll reconsider this Gamestop deal now.
