places like gamestop, ebgames, fye, etc...

do they allow u to trade in sealed game?
will they give you more money/store credit for sealed games?

im askin this ? b/c i have heard that fye or something doesn't accept sealed games as trade ins :?

that seems weird...thanks for any info! :D

in the past ive heard that they will just give you credit for it as a used game, but now i wonder cause someone could just change the game inside and rewrap and get more back for it.

i just traded in a sealed "black & bruised" for the ps2 last week at fye and they gave me $12 for it. however, they're selling the game for $49.99.

i know u could just unwrap it, but i want to get as much store credit/$$ as i can from trade-ins, as most ppl around here would and i would think that sealed games would get u more store credit/$$$ than just a used one...

yea i saw ur post on the fye topic, doraemonkerpal...

Pretty sure it counts as used. I traded in a sealed Gran Turismo back in the day that I won from some Duke Nukem contest. I already had a copy of it at the time, so I traded the new one in. Guy at EB said "you sure you want to trade this in?"

Still got ripped off.

if they are going to sell the game as used, it really doesn't matter if it's sealed or not.

the possibilty that they may just say "hey, i'll just give you $50 in store credit" (or however much it goes for new) is very, very small. and when i say very small, i mean virtually nonexistant.

I've had luck trading in sealed games at Coconuts, the FYE affiliate. I received quite a bit of store credit for sealed game trade-ins, as recently as last week.

as for FYE stores, I don't know, I haven't tried since I bought my XBox and they offered to give me full store credit for a sealed GBA game.

I bought a used copy of Thousand Arms for the PSOne a couple years back, and the employee told me he had to remove the shrinkwrap where the guy traded it in. Something about they had to remove it to sell it as used. You could tell he was telling the truth too, the game was MINT w/ all the original inserts (even the then-expired coupon for the free soundtrack :?).

EDIT: Sorry, I meant to say, but this was at a Gamestop.

hmm....does anyone know info about sealed games getting traded to gamestop/ebgames? so far i think ppl have posted about fye...thanks!:D

this is totally YMMV, but i have traded in sealed stuff to KB for store credit before. they won't give you cash back, and they have to stock the game to accept it, but they will accept games without a recipt as long as its an exchange. its not a scam or anything, im pretty sure this has been their policy.

Either that, or sell it on Ebay. With ebay everybody wins. The seller gets more money, and the buyer gets it for cheaper than eb will sell it back to you for.
take your games back to walmart I guess I see alot people saying they take sealed games and get full credit.
you have to be careful at Walmart. they normally take down your driver's license info, and i've heard if you return three or four things w/o receipts, they won't allow you to do it again for a few months.

yea...im kind of "scared" to go return it to walmart w/o receipt b/c isn't it illegal and u could get some "punishment" for it?

i may try the kbtoys thing...thanks for all of the responses cagers! :p

Does anyone have any legal background or references as to whether this is 'illegal' or not? I know returning stuff without a receipt can be against store policy, and the morality of it can certainly be debated.
I have done it a few times, to various stores--returned an unopened, brand new item that was legitimately gotten [ie, not stolen], to a store [Best Buy, Walmart] I frequent for store credit, which I then used to purchase stuff I did want or didn't already have [and every time, spent more than the credit]. As long as the item was legimitately gotten by you, is brand new and shrinkwrapped [ie, you didnt play it and then reshrinkwrap it], and it's an item they sell, I don't see the harm in it. I have also given that credit as a store manager, if it's something my store sold and I didn't think the person stole it from me. Besides, any store can decide to refuse a no-receipt return on the spot if they want to.
Of course, I wouldn't suggest you do it daily or even weekly. Certainly if they end up taking a beating on it, they'll amend that policy real quick.

There is nothing illegal about it if a store's policy says that it will exchange unopened merchandise without a receipt. They know going into the deal that it's possible the item(s) could be from another store.

If a store has a problem with it, their policy will require a receipt.

I know a guy in the upper echelon of Wal-Mart management, and he says they take all kinds of crap and exchange it, especially after Christmas. They can turn around and sell the exchanged stuff, and the customer is happy, thus more likely to spend money in that store.

in the case of KB, i made it pretty clear that I did not buy it at KB, and they didnt seem to mind. in fact, there is a KB employee who is normally on this board (i forget his name at the moment, but he did provide some great deals around christmas) who even mentioned that it was in the policy.

Dude, thats retarded. You don't trade in A new release for 12.99. You go to best buy and they give you full credit to their store.. At least over here in Seattle they do. I said I got battlefield vietnam for my birthday and don't have the receipt and they let me. :D

I won't do the Walmart no reciept trick ever again.

One time I went to EB and bought Dungeons & Dragons: Heroes for Xbox when it dropped to 30 bucks. On the way home, I suddenly remembered that when I rented the game awhile back, it lost its fun later in the game, and I completely forgot about that part and was thinking about when I was digging it in the beginning. I was like "ah shit, I don't want this game" and I was kind of screwed.

Well I heard about the Walmart trick where you can sell it to them without a reciept for store credit if you lie to them and say you bought it there. I thought "what the hell" and tried it. I ended up getting 50 bucks for it! I about shit my pants. I ended up buying a brand new game.

When I was on my way home, I was kind of regretting it cause I kinda ripped Walmart off. I sort of felt bad about it. I was in my car on the way home thinking "man watch something bad happen to me now in return of the bad deed I just did".

Well on my way home, I pulled into the driveway to my house, and it was really icey (winter at the time) and I pulled in kinda fast. I hit the brakes like I normally do but my car slid on the ice in the driveway and I went through my parents freakin' garage and totalled the garage door. I thought my Dad was gonna whoop my ass and I was freaked out about it until he came home. Ended up he wasn't really pissed since it wasn't my fault completely, and the house insurence payed for it.

Moral of the story, I did something morally kind of wrong, and I paid for it. There for I learned my lesson. I dunno if it was just a coincidence or not, but it freaked me out.

Why didn't you just return the game to EB and get your money back?

Yeah, if you were only "on the way home" I'm guessing you hadn't even opened it yet! Even if you just ditched the receipt, chances are the casheirs would have recognized you and not given you much of a problem. Oh well, hindsight 20/20 and all that...

My EB is pretty far away (about 45min, I live in the boonies) and I was close to being home and getting low on gas. I didn't wana have to turn around. Walmart was right down the street from my current location at the time of driving, so thats what I did.

i too am a firm believer in "what goes around comes around" because it's happened to me before..you won't see me trying to con stores into giving me credit for something i didn't even purchase from them

some of you guys should be auditioning for the matchstick men sequel :p
