Events your store may be doing... Call ahead of time to make sure.

Event: "Gears of War Preview" Select stores will be staying open late on 10-21 in order to show off Gears of War for the Xbox 360. The showing will start at 9 PM and last approximately 15-20 minutes from what I can tell.

Event: "Final Fantasy XII Costume Contest & Midnight Opening" Some stores may end up doing a costume contest for the release of Final Fantasy XII. Participants may dress up as any Final Fantasy character of their choosing (Prizes may be available, although I'm not to sure about it). Some stores may also be participating in a midnight opening for Final Fantasy XII.

I think I've covered everything that is available this time around. If anyone discovers that something is missing, please post in the thread or the even better bet is to PM me so I can add to the list accordingly.

i thought they didnt take sports games....also guys could you list some games that have a good trade in value that I could buy for cheaper?
io, they have to manually add the 10%?? At the EB I just went to, it does it all automatically for them, it applied $4 to the first game, $3 to the two after it.
You mean the $10? They have always had to add that manually as far as I know - sometimes I get $3, $3, $4, sometimes, $3.33, $3.33, $3.34, and sometimes $10 (or $20 or whatever) on one game. The "overrides" are manual. The 10% for Edge is automatic of course - but for some reason this guy added 10% into the override also - and I wasn't even preordering anything.
Oh, and the other reason I hate this clerk, he told me that the 3 pack of Clancy games would only count as a ONE GAME trade. Ummm, hello, how can 3 distinctly stand alone games, even though packaged in one case only count as one f'n game? What a jagoff!!!!!
I've never seen the discs, but do they clearly say on the disc that its part of the 3 pack?

i just got a game i wanted to trade in, but apparently blockbuster put this 1 inch in diameter circular sticker with a hole in the middle onto the center of the disc itself, and its practically impossible to remove. Do u think gamestop will take this game, even if its blockbuster branded.

I've traded one or two things in before like that and they haven't cared, though I imagine it's ultimately YMMV...

i've purchased ps1 games from EB that had that blockbuster seal on it before, but i don't know if they've stopped accepting them since then. i'd say call, but my experience over the past few days is that most eb employees are ignorant and make up their own rules dependant upon their mood.

Nah, they didn't add anything last time I went, he just scanned the games and read me a total, like it was automatic, because I was in and out of the store in under 5 minutes.

He probably just added $10 to one of the games. It takes longer if they decide to add 3.33 to each game individually. And longer if you add in the 10% preorder bonus. I like that way even though it takes longer just so I can see exactly what I got for each game.

Nah, saw my receipt, it goes $4, $3, $3 and he literally typed in nothing after he scanned each one. He scanned them, looked at the computer, read me my total with bonus, and then asked for my ID to put my info in the computer... no more paper forms either.
Weird, my PS2 Crash Twinsanity was $9 after bonuses.
Just called GS to check, and they quoted me $9.

i know the OP says you can mix formats, but has anyone else had trouble doing this? the guy ultimately gave me the bonus, but he acted as if he were doing me a HUGE UNPRECEDENTED favor by taking in 2 PS2 games and 1 GCN game. ugh

lol...ive traded in games for 4 different systems at one time before, xbox ps2 gc and nds...never got a peep from the employee

Uhg, stupid Babbages. Last time I went, they accept the sports games I had (which were like... hot shots and stuff. Not numbered titles.) Now, I went again today, and here are the games they did not accept:

NBA Street Vol. 2
Hot Shots Golf: FORE!
World Champ. Poker
Powerdrome :(
Strike Force Bowling

I mean, COMON. At least I doubled up out of what I bought at kmart. I now have $120 dollars in credit :).

Hmmm - well, maybe they have it auto at some stores now, but I have never seen it that way in the trades I've done at 4 different EB's. Sometimes it is nice if they are auto if the employee isn't aware of the deal or how it is run. But on the other hand, then you can't get extra (calculation mistake) bonuses like I have the last 2 times :D.

I went to the airport today and was told my flight was delayed a few hours and I'd miss my connection so they rescheduled me for tomorrow. I get to miss the first of 3 days of boring meetings, hooray! The CAG in me was VERY tempted to take advantage of that by making another Kmart/EB run but I held back. I'll just spend this 'found' day with my kids instead. I'm going to try the Lego Star Wars "Super Story" bonus mission with my son right now (complete all chapters in less than 1 hour to earn a gold brick). Oh yeah, keeping this on topic, Lego Star Wars was one of my EB preorders using the 10% bonus for preordering (stacked on top of $10 for 3 and Edge of course ).

:bomb: I asked my Babbages if I could do that today, and they said it didn't stack that far...

I did some trade-ins today, and it's the exact same for me. He didn't type anything else in, he just scanned them and on the receipt it shows a bonus of $4.00, $3.00, $3.00 and of course the extra 10% bonus.

Anyway, Resident Evil for the Gamecube is up by a $1.00, I'd like to go ahead and update the Wiki, but I can't seem to register to it.

I traded these in today:

Oni: $1.00
X-Squad - $1.00
RTX Red Rock - $1.00
Splinter Cell - $1.00
Max Payne 2 - $0.50
Powerdrome - $1.00
Resident Evil (Gamecube) - $4.00

I ended up with $31.35 of credit, not bad for spending $8.00 on these games yesterday.
ERRG :bomb: I'm STILL pissed my Babbages wouldn't take Powerdrome for the promotion...
Damn, that sucks. I've traded in two so far, and to the same employee. I'm not going to trade more than that though. I don't want my account to be flagged or anything. :D
:bomb: I asked my Babbages if I could do that today, and they said it didn't stack that far...
They don't normally - you need to find a store that values your business :D. Seriously, there is one store near me that does it consistently (while the others won't stack, don't know about the preorder bonus at all, or think it ended a long time ago). Guess what? They get all of my preorders (about 10 so far). But if your district has a DM that strictly forbids it then you won't have any luck anywhere.

Whats this about needing an ID for trading in games?

I've literally never traded in a game before at eb, just because I never had the need too, I mostly buy sports games and the trade in value is so low when I am done with the game.

I want to trade in some of my old games (GTA, GT3, MGS2, Halo 2). What exactly do I need? A valid drivers license? And how do I get credit? Do I get cash back or just credit put onto a card?

Well, first you need a photo ID. It doesn't have to be a driver's license, just anything so that they know you aren't trading in stuff that mommy just bought you ;). After that, you can either get the credit on a card, or you can get cash back at (I think..) %80 of what the credit would be.

Can the trade-in creditcs be transfered from one GS to another GS? I have FF-XII preordered at one GS but won't get there until after the promo expires. However, I may be going in the opposite direction to another GS where I could trade in for the $10 bonus. Arrgh. Those GS are like 40 miles in the opposite directions.

I think it's only, like, 60%.

Well I do have a drivers license, just wanted to be prepaired when I go in, I don't like to hold up lines, and the fact that the only chance I have to go there tommorow I will literally have 10 minutes before class so I want to get in and out quickly.
say you have a slip with $50 credit on it, can you turn that into cash at will(75% of it or whatever)?
no

they don't always ask for ID
the last time i went she just asked me when my birthday was
if you look young they'll probably ask(people say i look a few years older than i am, probably the facial hair)
So in sports games does bowling & poker count as a sports game?
At 90% of the stores they would not be considered Sports games - but YMMV, as always. Some stores will take things like Madden 2002. I passed off a Backyard Wrestling 2 yesterday but that is less likely than Bowling and Poker since ALL wrestling are excluded.
I think it's only, like, 60%.
It's 80%. When you opt for cash, they take away 20% and give you what's left.
say you have a slip with $50 credit on it, can you turn that into cash at will(75% of it or whatever)?
I'm pretty sure that the only chance you get to get cash is directly when you trade your stuff in...if you opted for credit, I believe you're stuck with credit. :/
I've never seen the discs, but do they clearly say on the disc that its part of the 3 pack?
Actually NO, they don't. And, after talking to an EB employee in Middletown, NY today(took a relative to Monticello and went for a 20 min drive to there), it's totally up to the jagoff cashier whether or not they wanna be a total prick and charge the refurb fee on disc only games or not.

But, the clerk also told me that they usually only charge the fee on games that're trashed. And, the ones I went to trade weren't trashed, as I just took them out of the case to take them into the store to trade.

However, the clerk also told me today that any clerk can charge the refurb fee ALSO as a way to kind of discourage the trades, if they think those games won't sell at their store.

It kind of makes sense, in a way, but I'm pretty sure I got flagged for trading in the exact same games just 20 minutes earlier at a GS about 2 miles from the EB. Either that or the guy just wanted to be a total jagoff because I came in so close to closing.

In other CAG news, I scored 2 Donkey Kongas tonight, one I'm keeping, the other I may give to my one buddy for his nieces for a cheap Christmas present. The same Kmart I went to that I got these at, had 3 Taikos in the case and 2 Donkey Kongas left, but only maybe 1-2 clearance games that weren't clearly marked.

Either way, I have my fill of cheap GAMES for a while, now all I'm waiting for is Kmart to start clearing out the old systems to make room for next gen. Hehe. Cheap Xbox or PStwo here I come.

I have a couple of derpity-derp questions of sorts. Does Gamestop/EB keep track of the games you trade-in, and if so is it a store-to-store or nationwide system? And do they give you a hard time about trading in a lot of games, or really crappy games, or multiple copies of the same game?

multiple copies they will.

Really crappy as in games no one likes? That is a state of an opinion not a policy.. so.. uh no of course you won't have a hard time.

Trading in a lot.. (Something they enjoy, minus the employees processing)

I've seen a couple of people ask this question, but I don't remember ever seeing it clearly answered: can a clerk at one store see a list of what you have traded at other stores?

The reason I ask is that I have access to multiple copies of some of the very cheap, very crappy $1-2 KMart clearance games (World Championship Poker, etc.) and I've got lots of EB/GS stores nearby. Before I buy them and try to trade them, though, it'd be good to know if I'm likely to get grief when one store sees that I've already traded five copies of the same game(s) at other stores. Any thoughts?

My stores really don't care about what you have already traded in... I dumped 3 copies of the same game in the same store, at different times, and coincidentally, with a different person each time.

I don't think they can see what you've traded elsewhere (the District Manager probably can though). In any case, it doesn't matter as I've never heard of ANYONE banned from EB/GS trading except the guy a month or two ago who flipped games like Powerdrome from one store to another. They caught on to that - but that is taking their own stock and flipping it. If the games come from an external source they shouldn't care.

I've said this many times - EB/GS sets the price they are willing to pay for a game and as long as you obtained it legally (and without the Powerdrome loophole which amounts to free credit-building - certainly legal but not in EB/GS's best interests) what do they care? They think they can make a profit on it based on what they gave you, so that's fine. If they get too many of a game (system-wide) the trade-in price will drop appropriately.

Thanks, I just wanted to be sure. I'm mostly asking because of a couple of embarrassing scenes at GameRush, where stores do occasionally communicate (at least locally). I really don't want to deal with any more employee accusations about how I'm "taking advantage of the system" if I can avoid it. ;)

Right, I had meant to mention that EB/GS operates very differently than GR in that regard :D. It seems that once EB/GS comes up with a promo, as long as you follow it's guidelines you will be OK (unlike GR).

I used to take cheap games and trade them in to EB from other stores, all of them the same title and at the same time. But one of the clerks gave me the heads up that management was catching on, so he suggested just bringing them in at different times of the day and somehow that kept me under the radar.

I have a few games to add to the list that I traded a few minutes ago. All prices before $10 and edge card.

Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror (PSP) -- $14
Tekken: Dark Resurrection (PSP) -- $24
Archer Maclean's Mercury (PSP) -- $6
Simpsons Hit and Run (PS2) -- $5

With $5.84 with the Edge Card and the $10 bonus my total came to $64.24.

I put $10.92 down on FFXII Collector's Edition, I also put $10 on GTA: VCS for the PSP and I used the remainder to buy Kingdom Hearts II. I found the KHII Limited Edition Strategy Guide at another store for only $7 so I was like, hmmm I think i'll get it. Perfect timing to cuz i'm about to finish FFVIII and need a game to tide me over til Halloween for XII.

Hello GS/EB Employees or People Who Use Credit All The Time,

Quick question - I have about $120 in GS credit and wanted to pick up DS Lite for my brother who is going to leave for Japan in a couple months:

Is tax calculated before my credit is applied?

For example, TAX BEFORE CREDIT: DS Lite $129.99 + TAX (8.25%) $10.72 = $140.71 - CREDIT $120.00 = $20.71

Or, TAX AFTER CREDIT: DS Lite $129.99 - CREDIT $120.00 = $9.99 + TAX (8.25%) $0.82 = $10.81

A difference of $9.90, which is a lot considering I am probably one of the most Cheapest Ass Gamers around.

Replies are appreciated!!!

In NJ, the store credit accumulated from trade ins allow you to buy things tax free. So in NJ you would only pay tax in $9.99. I think other states are differennt based upon other people's posts.

In Michigan, tax is applied BEFORE credit.

Same.

I only got taxed on the $3 I had to pay in actual money when I did the deal.

Okay. I just had a less than stellar time at my local EB. I traded in 9 games, and was quoted a $70ish price. I knew that had to be before the bonus $30, so I had to remind him about that and he keyed it in and scanned my edge card. $110ish. Good. I had checked just before leaving for the store to see if they had Cooking Mama in-- the one game I was really looking for. They had at least 1-3 in stock according to the site.

I didn't see it on the wall so I asked at the desk. One guy said he bought one of two copies, so there should be one left. Well, I wanted two, but one will work.

So they dig around.... dig dig dig... can't find it. Clerk guy says that maybe someone had taken it home, so they check this log thing, and find that another worker had 'rented' it out for a few days, but had supposedly returned it already. They look around again and it's still not found, so they call the guy, who says he still has it and will return it in less than 5 days.

This makes me fairly displeased as I don't see why a store clerk should have the game when it was the last copy in the store and he isn't BUYING it. I'm in the store now wanting to buy it, and they can't sell it to me cause this guy 'rented' the game. I don't like being told the game is being rented out unless I'm at Blockbuster. They tell me to come back in sometime int he next 5 days and it should be in.

This bothers me in several ways:
1) I wanted it because I wanted to play it on Friday, as I'm taking a long trip and will be sitting outside a courtroom for a few hours. I just traded in several DS games and was fully planning on playing Cooking mama while at the courthouse. If this guy doesn't bring it back on Thursday, I'm out of luck.

2) It seems like a stupid store policy to allow them to check out the last copy of a game. I could handle it if two workers had BOUGHT copies, but I had no idea they were allowed to 'loan' the game out to play. Haven't I heard something somewhere about EB or GS being sued for selling used games as new before, or was I imagining that? If I go in on Thursday to buy it, are they going to try to tell me I have to pay the new price, or used? Do I have a right to raise hell if they try to make me pay for a new game when it's obviously used? After all, they were the ones who outwardly told me where this missing game was.

Should I complain to the store manager (no idea if one of the guys tonight was a manager or not), should I ask for the district manager, or corporate, if I get asked to pay the full price?

3) What if this guy who currently has it decides he wants to buy it on Thursday? Shouldn't I have had 'first dibs' on it since I came in today trying to buy it?

Anyway. Here's the tradeins I did, before bonuses, for the wiki:

DS Super Princess Peach - $14
DS Tetris DS - $14
DS New Super Mario Bros - $20
DS Zoo Keeper - $3
PSP Wipeout Pure - $4
XBOX Burnout Revenge - $7
GC Aggressive Inline - $1.50
PS2 Taiko Drum Master - $4
PS2 Eyetoy Antigrav - $3
