Sorry, but no good game trading promos this time in marketing. For those of you waiting to get rid of a system, now is the time to do it for some extra credit.

Trade Values according to the Wiki.

(Green means it is starting on 10/16)
(White is a continuation from last marketing period)
(Red means it is ending on 10/15)

Events your store may be doing... Call ahead of time to make sure.

Event: "Gears of War Preview" Select stores will be staying open late on 10-21 in order to show off Gears of War for the Xbox 360. The showing will start at 9 PM and last approximately 15-20 minutes from what I can tell.

Event: "Final Fantasy XII Costume Contest & Midnight Opening" Some stores may end up doing a costume contest for the release of Final Fantasy XII. Participants may dress up as any Final Fantasy character of their choosing (Prizes may be available, although I'm not to sure about it). Some stores may also be participating in a midnight opening for Final Fantasy XII.

I think I've covered everything that is available this time around. If anyone discovers that something is missing, please post in the thread or the even better bet is to PM me so I can add to the list accordingly.

They'll only care when you trade in multiple copies of a game at once, or if you buy the games, don't leave the store, and then trade them back in.

My Xbox is invaluable to me. I have it softmodded and use it for so many different things, that I couldn't justify selling it to save $80 on 360.

I got mine from overstock for $406 shipped with Dead rising and Play and charge.
couldn't you theoretically go into the store, buy a bunch of $.99/$1.99 used games, then turn around and trade them in for $10+?
Theoretically you could do anything you want, but when you do it don't go bringing it up in forums.
I have a couple questions:

1. Does GameStop keep any games that you have preordered in their computers? I preordered a game and I have since lost the receipt, would they be able to print me out a new one?

2. I have about 3 or 4 trade-in credit receipts, will they able to combine them all into one?

That's it.
1. Your pre-orders are stored safely in the computer and / or file box (depending if your Gamestop has transfered all pre-orders into the new POS system).

2. Not sure, no one every asked me to do that, I don't see a problem with it though.
Damage control.. cute assumptions.. cute.
Please tell. Are you saying the rumors floating around that they will, in fact, NOT do the $50 trade-in credit preorder thing are false? If so, please let us know so we can save some games for it then!

I think I'll probably trade what I have in anyway as soon as possible. Then I will just buy games from GR if I need to come up with $50 of trade-ins for the Wii/PS3 preorder.
Theoretically you could do anything you want, but when you do it don't go bringing it up in forums.
By all means, he can bring it up, he just can't bitch about it if he gets rejected/banned .

Wait, so are CAGs supposed to be against this? I'm confused why it would be ok to buy a bunch of crap games at some other used game store and trade those in, but not ok if the games are bought from an EB. I'm pretty much positive EB doesn't have any rules against this practice. But please let me know if I'm wrong.

BIG difference - when you buy them from EB and trade them back in you are gaining credit without providing any benefit to the store. Now, personally, I don't care if someone does it or not - it is up to them if it is worth the risk.

When you buy crap games from another store (even the very same games) you are providing another copy for EB to sell. They may still lose a $1 or so on the worst of the worst (say Max Payne) but in general they will at least get the credit back if not more. It is a guaranteed loss for them, though, when you buy it from them and trade back in again.

Allright, I can see the difference. Cool, thanks. Next then, I need to ask if EB/GS actually has any way of noticing people doing this, and if they ever do anything about it. I know they take my info down when I do trade-ins, but as far as I can tell it's just to have in case one my disks turns out to be a cleverly labeled blank dvd or something. Do they actually notice or do anything to people buying with credit and trading back in for more credit?

Allright, one more question and one I think we should all discuss as we're probably all hoping to build credit for a wii or at least something...

Where is everyone finding cheap cheap games to trade-in to build their credit?

I can't sit for an hour and read all the deal threads when i'm just looking to find $1.99 games that aren't old sports titles. Or is there a thread I should be reading? Please help me out. Or is this some kind of CAG taboo that I didn't know about.

i think most are getting clearanced games from kmart to trade in. might wanna check out that thread if you have any kmarts near you.
Do you have ten copies of them? That's what would get you in trouble.
what if u did this in a span of 2 weeks, never with more than 1 copy a day
what if u did this in a span of 2 weeks, never with more than 1 copy a day
ahhh..
why don't you try it and let us know the results.

if you get the same employee at one store doing your trade-in every single time,
of course you're going to get caught trading in the same game a gazillion times.
that is unless you get a BLIND (or RETARDED) employee.
not sure what kind of answer you were expecting to hear from the rest of us.
maybe if you wear a different disguise every time, they won't recognize you.
remember to take some pics for the rest of us.

I accidentally picked up two copies of each Max Payne, Ghost Recon, and Test Drive for Xbox from the buy 2 get 1 free at Gamecrazy. After the extra copies sat on my tradelist, with no one understandably interested, I traded them in to EBgames and got 13.75 in trade with my edge card, which I then used to get Kirby Canvas Course for DS. Only took another 2.60 to get the game so I'm pretty stoked.
So, 11 dollars for Canvas Course isn't bad. I guess I can see why people do this, but I can't imagine hoarding Kmarts and trying to do it full time.

Go to a different store to trade them, if you've got one close. Me? I've got 4 EB/GS's directly on the way from school to home hehe

Does anyone know if you can mix and match games for all systems for trade-in? Last time this happened, my gamestop gave me trouble for trying that.

yes you can, well at least at my local GS..

Ah, see, but that's how it starts :D. You'll find it hard to resist when you can make a 30 minute trip (not many of us do this full-time after all) to Kmart and end up getting 2 or 3 newly released titles for less than half price (from EB).
Does anyone know if you can mix and match games for all systems for trade-in? Last time this happened, my gamestop gave me trouble for trying that.
For the most part, yes. I've run into a few stores that claimed that each group of three had to be the same system. (One guy claimed that since the system logos were on the sign, they couldn't mix. I still don't quite understand that.) I just call corporate while standing in the store and have them tell the cashier to do it. I get the 'just this time, personal favor, never again' attitude, though.

In general, I keep my multiplatform trades to the stores that never hassle about anything. Luckily, the best store for me is also the closest. If I can make homogenous batches of three, I save those for grumpier stores.

Has this extension of the deal been confirmed? I asked my EB Games yesterday, and they didn't know anything about the date being extended.

Thanks.

Yes, its confirmed. We received our marketing yesterday and I was going to post the new stuff, but it was already stated here.

alright ill make sure to document this just for you. you can marvel at my 1000 in credit

which eb thread mentioned the new coupon in the GI for 30% bonus trade in credit? And is that stackable with the bonus $10, and edge card? I assume that it would be huge YMMV for them to stack offers.

Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly: $3.00

iconps2_r2.gif

Max Payne: $.50

Enter The Matrix: $1.00
Tekken Tag: $2.50
True Crime LA: $1.00
Marc Ecko: $6.00

iconxbox_r2.gif

I got $99.00 with Edge card and bonus included, but to get the Edge, I had to pay $15.74, so I got $83.26 Total.

I need a helpful EB / GS employee, manager, or whatever to help me out.

I went to an EB today (the store was empty, my friend and I were the only customers), had three games from K-Mart, they were:

Urbz: Sims in the City Xbox (non platinum hits cover)
World Poker Tournament PS2 (non GH cover)
Enter the Matrix (GH cover)

Why I tell you the covers is important... the dude scans the three games, says I'll get $4.50 in trade-in credit. I ask him what about the trade 3 deal, and he tells me "It dosen't apply to Greatest Hits games". I say "Excuse me? I thought it was just sports games and wrestling games" and he says "No, we don't take in Greatest Hits games".

The funny part was that my other two games WERE PH / GH but they just didn't have the covers. I told him I'd just go elsewhere to a store that DOES follow the rules, and he just stared at me and didn't say anything.

I go upstairs in the mall to Gamestop, they tell me the dude is full of crap and they will gladly take in my preorders. I go to my usual EB, they also tell me there is no such rule and the guy just didn't want to take my games possibly.

They said to call or go back over there and talk with the guy to see what's up, maybe he's misinformed, but the thing is that guy over there is the manager and he was very adamant on his little "rule". I'd rather not have to deal with him again, so where is the # or website where I can hopefully get in touch with a DM?

I feel bad for everyone he's ripping off day after day because he wants to make up rules... what gets me is that ALL my games were Greatest Hits / Platinum Hits and the two that had regular covers worked, while the one with the GH cover is what stopped me from getting $14.50 instead of $4.50.

I had similar happen (not this time, but during the previous sale) where one EB tells me that in order to trade in games, all the games have to be on the same platform (no mix matching), while I saw every other CAG member do it. Another problem I had was they continue to run the promo, but all employees will insist that they aren't. Part of the reason why I stopped shopping at EB for around 2 months, until I recently started shopping there again.
Well... their website does say
That seems BS though, the disc, case, and manual were flawless, it just seems like the guy wanted to be a jerk about things.

I mean, maybe if he said "we can't take these" but to give me such a retarded excuse for a reason... maybe he thought I stole them, but shit, if I did steal games, I'd have much better taste than Enter the Matrix and I wouldn't steal shit that trades in for $1.
Well... their website does say
Trade-in's yes. Not trade in deals. That just means that he can refuse you if you like...

1) Come in every Tuesday with all the new DVD's released that day. Like so with games.

2) Or if you come in every other day and trade in the same game for a deal.

3) Or if he over hears you talking about stealing the games from other stores, friends, or siblings.

I mean, I'm no manager, but I can't tell you how many people I have refused that say they stole them from their little brothers or friends. Maybe i take it too serious, but that is seriously fucked up.
So when they blacklist you...What happen to all your credit?

Also say i traded in Mario Power Tennis & I trade six other Mario Power Tennis games at different stores, will they have a history of what games i have traded in...I mean having 7 different Mario Power Tennis trade in will look kinda odd right...Could this get me blacklisted?
hoarders like you belong to fatwallet, not cag.
Does anyone know if you can mix and match games for all systems for trade-in? Last time this happened, my gamestop gave me trouble for trying that.
Thats such bullshit. Take your games elsewhere if GS is going to act like that. You can trade any combination of games in as long as they arent old sports or wrestling games or multiple copies of the same game. My EB tried not stacking my extra 10% trade in for my card and I took the games to the GS half a mile away and traded in my games for more value there. Dont deal with the shitty stores, give your business to the ones that run the place right.
I know "disc only" games are fine for the PS2, XBox, and Gamecube but are "cart only" DS games fine also?
cart only is fine.
I traded in mario 64 ds, cart only, last week.

Cool I just picked up at a early bird yard sale Metriod Pinball, Mario Kart, and Nintendogs all cart only for $12.00. They should net me around $49.50 after the 3 for $10.00 and my 10% edge card bonus.

Yea, #2 happened to me, but the manager was real cool, she knows I wouldn't steal so she just asked me how I'm getting so many new games because it was obvious I was just taking off the wrapper and bringing them in.

I was honest, told her about K-Mart having them for $2 and I figured it would be a good chance to amass some decent credit, and she agreed, and even helped me get the maximum value I could with all the %'s. Sometimes it pays to just be honest. Even took my Tom Clancy 3 pack as 3 seperate games.

What mall was this? It sounds like a store to avoid.
What mall was this? It sounds like a store to avoid.
Countryside Mall... the EB on the first floor. The guy who helped me was the black guy with the dreads who is always in there, I think he's a manager.

The Gamestop on the second floor was really helpful, though, and didn't give me any hassles or made up rules at all.

I traded in the third game of the PS2 3-pack that is being talked about (from Kmart: Mark Davis Pro Bass Fishing, Pinball Collection, and Strike Force Bowling).

Well Strike Force Bowling was the only one not in the Wiki....until now. I traded it in and got a respectable $2 for it. So trading in all three nets $19.80 with the Edge/More card.

Hehehehe I already have 60 something in credit from 20 something in Kmart clearance games. I think now is the time for me to become a devil customer for real and go clean out their stock of all the $1.99 games they have in store locally that I can grab for $60.

Of course, I'd have to trade them all in within a week or lose out on the chance of returning them under the 7 day deal. But, for the chance to probably double my credit, I'll do it. And its great, because the games bought with credit normally don't get charged taxes.

I went to Kmart to look for some trade fodder, and they had none of those packs. :(

Oh well, I traded in 3 games for $14.00, not that bad. One of the games I traded in was Smugglers Run, I picked up a fourth game just in case, Silpheed. Since they took it, I kept the game and I think it's pretty good, especially since I paid like $1.25 for it.

I just couldn't do it man. I hate going to a sale and seeing it cleared out. Not thread capping or hating on traders at all, just saying you guys contribute a majority to stores being OOS on clearance. :D

I'm still debating whether or not I should go back to my local CC and spend $9 something on their last copy of Sid Meiers Pirates, which was jammed unceremoniously alongside the walls of their July 4th bin, which has now become the 'dump the cheap games in' bin.

I have way too many games I haven't even played yet and just found out last night that the av wire for my new PStwo is missing most of its contacts and switches from black and white to color while playing a game, so I have more things to worry bout other than building more credit, but I will still TRY to see if I can do the flipping thing a bit. LOL Stick it to EBstop real well.

EBstop...? thats horrible. GameGames is better

I just got back from Eb with some stuff I snagged from Kmart. I actually did keep a few of the games I got from Kmart. I found 2 Eyetoys, Sly 2 and Hot Shots Golf Fore which I am keeping. I got a second Hot Shots to trade as well as some others. I had a kind lady give me a hand scanning all the games. We split the duplicates between us so she could give to her kids. Really cool :)

Namco Museum (Xbox) -- $3
Pac-Man World 2 (Xbox) -- $4
Mech Assault 2 (Xbox) -- $2
HotShots Golf Fore (PS2) -- $6
The Getaway Black Monday (PS2) -- $3
Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando (PS2) -- $4

Trade in Value = $22
w/ Edge Card = $4.20 (10% added on 2 games AFTER bonus, so I got an extra $2)
w/ $10 Bonus = $20

Total: $46.20

I paid off the rest of my FFX2:CE @ $13.27. So now I'm just building up credit to put a dent in a PS3 for next year.

Traded in my last pile of games for this deal.

Here are the only prices that may be worth knowing:

:ps2:
Strike Force Bowling $2
Pinball Hall of Fame $2.50
Mark Davis Pro Bass Fishing $3

:xbox:
Halo 2 Regular $11

:gcn:
Sonic Adventure DX $5

:ds:
Metroid Prime Pinball $6

With what I had from the last two times I flipped some games between stores, I ended up with almost $230 in credit.. I must have spent about $120-140 total on all this stuff at one point or another.. so that's a pretty good return.

Paid off my GoW collector's edition and paid for my three Wii launch games in full (Zelda, Trauma Center, and Metal Slug Anthology). Am probably still going to end up with about $30 left over once I end up picking all these up because I'll be working there again by the time all these come out.
