what is the rarest sega dreamcast game?
I haven't seen a copy of Bangai-O in years....that should be pretty rare in itself.
I'd have to agree with SenorWooSuavA, Bangai-O Is a game you just never see very often..even when it was released and new. Bangai-O is awesome as well! Get it if you see it.

If you guys want to consider production run, then I-Spy had the lowest production run (around 2500 copies) of any US Dreamcast game. Wait ten years, and it will be #1 with a bullet most valuable Dreamcast game. Bangai O had about 5000 copies made, which isn't a lot, obviously.

Are you referring to Industrial Spy: Operation Espionage?

^^No, a game simply has to have a low production run or market negligence to be rare.
Its a combination of low supply and high demand. There are rare games out there that aren't worth anything, because theres no demand, usually because they're horrible games.
Midway's Greatest Arcade Hits Vol. 2
(Moon Patrol, 720, Rampage, Spy Hunter, Gauntlet, and Paperboy)
Yeah, I have never seen a copy of Midway's Greatest Arcade Hits Volume 2, brand new factory sealed or used, anywhere...
Where do you guys find the Dreamcst game print runs ?
I was wondering the same thing. If Bangai-O had that limited of a release I feel lucky then since I have one.

I don't know where I originally got the numbers but I have them saved to my PC. I have the shipped numbers, not the sell through ones (some DC games sold less then 1000 copies in the US before being clearanced out. Once games reach that phase of retail, they often don't continue counting). I don't have the numbers of Midway Arcade 2 though... it was a pretty late release. I'm guessing it's only uncommon as before the fall of the Dreamcast I saw tons of copies of it everywhere. However, there is only two active auctions for it right now.

Soul Caliber was the greatest selling DC game, and in fact the only US DC game to sell 1,000,000+ copies. Aroudn 1.25 Million were shipped into the US.

Marvel/Capcom 2 is not rare. 100,000+ copies were shipped, and the value has now dipped under $30. It will continue to devalue, like all other 'false alarm' games.

Bangai O had around 5,000 shipped and it's large volume on Ebay proves it's not very hard to find. A true rarity would rarely, pun intended, show up on Ebay.

Diddo for Industrial Spy. Although it's the lowest produced DC game (2,500 copies or less), it's neither hard to find or valuable on Ebay or in the wild.

On the other hand, Aerowings 2 seldom appears on ebay. There are two active ones going right now (and NO completed ones). With about 5,000 shipped, it's hard to comeby. Snatch it up if you want a good Dreamcast collection (good as in good hard to find, because Aerowings 2 sucks).

ECW Anarchy Rulz shipped about 5,000 at a time when Acclaim was hurting. Once again, you see it all the time, and it's not worth any money.

Here's a funny one: Kao the Kangeroo. Shipped a very quiet 5,000 into the states, and it ended up selling four times that (20,000) in Europe. Many people bought this from Gamestop or EB for $10. It's pretty hard to come by.

One that nobody has mentioned yet is BANG! Gunship Elite. I don't have the shipping info on this one but i will say that only 2 have been on Ebay in the last couple months, and they're going right now. Cheap too.

Suprised no one mentioned the LE of Shenmue, I think there was only like 5000 of those for preorders only or something (and no there aren't many on ebay usually).

I have the LE version of Shenmue as well, along with ECW Anarchy Rulz (as I mentioned earlier), Seaman and Half-Life.. my LE case of Shenmue broke, and I have no clue where the discs are. *sigh* Maybe i'll find them one day. I guarentee they'll be unplayable, though.

Actually around 10,000 so called 'limited edition' Shenmues were shipped.

Chances are if a game is called 'limited edition' it's anything but. Just ask the 500,000 owners of the 'limited gold edition' Zelda Ocarina of Time

Surviror Charlie, I've found your posts so far intriguing, and this link made me a bigger fan of your work. Of course, there's only one auction going at present, and it's at an opening bid of $10 (plus $4 shipping). Guess I'll wait for a better deal.

I was just thinking about that game recently. I hear it's pretty darn good. I've seen it a few times in the past, but never for cheap enough to pick up.

Speaking of rare games, and apologetically digressing from the topic, but what do you know about Hogs of War? It's a PSone strategy game by Infogrames. I have a copy that I got from Infogrames (I previewed it then requested it), but have never seen it anywhere else.

Playstation is not my area of expertise, sorry :( I can tell you that the rarest games for the PS were all made by the same company, and that they were all educational games. Sadly, I don't even have the name of the company off hand. I'll try to get it to you.

Lightspan I believe.

Also, all three versions of the Bleemcast disks are hard to find. Since Bleem got their butts sued by Sony and lost. I have the GT2 one. I was never interested in Metal Gear or Tekken 3 back then.

Oh, and for a weird piece of Dreamcast history, although Half-Life for the DC was cancelled, Prima's strategy guide for it was in fact published and shipped to stores, albeit in limited quanities. Snap it up if you see it and sit on it. A very strange collection piece, to be sure.
I could NOT find this game! congrats!
Bookmark a search page looking for "Spy, Dreamcast" and check it every now and then. It's not one of those you'll see on Ebay every day, but it does show up.
