What Was The Worst DS Game You Played/Own?
Surprisingly good if you like side-scrolling beat 'em ups. The flying missions are the real highlight though. I'm hoping Star Fox DS is as good as the flying missions in SW RotS were.
cool i might just pick it up next :)
cool i might just pick it up next :)
If you can find it for $9 at Circuit City (its part of the sale) its definetly worth it!
Well I just entered the world of DS games when I got my lite a couple weeks ago, and Ive tried to only buy good games for it so far, but my biggest dissapointment so far has to be Tetris DS.

Reason why Tetris DS sucks.
- 5 piece preview windows you cant turn off.
- Cant see the new piece when it first leaves the preview window and enters the playfield
- Has the infinite spin glitch, which means the game is broken.
- Gameplay just doesnt feel right, Ive played better controlling Tetris on a cellphone.

all the Nintendo fan service is great, but it cant mask the broken, shit gameplay.
Completely disagree. Infinite Spin was designed into the gameplay. Its not everyones cup of tea, and hardcore purists can say it ruins the game all they want, but dont call it a glitch, because its obviously not.

not counting budget or obviously shitty games I have to saw kirby is the worst. Im playing feel the magic right now and Im enjoying it. I just fought the giant plant.

so far, for me, I just picked up Guilty Gear DS (at CC), and I havent quite found any compelling reason to continue playing it anymore. But will probably play it a bit more over the weekend (At anime expo)

That is the worst game I have bought so far, but dont have very many, the games I have played the least are bust a move and nanostray.

Budget: Whac-A-mole. Not terrible (in fact pretty good presentation for a cheap game) but has a stupid level of cifficulty
Legit; Pokemon Trozei. Again, the game is just getting too difficult.
Special mention: Mario 64 DS. Why couldn't they make some better controls? I really want to play it, but the controls fustrate the hell outta me.

I just got my DS yesterday and only have four games but I would most definitely have to say Fifa Street 2.

Why did I get that game...

The AI doesn't make any sense at all. When they do tricks, lots of times they just walk into their own goal. Sometimes your goalie does that too. But thats just the start of the problems.

Nothing amuses me more these days than seeing Puffa mention, in any thread he can get away with it, how infinite spin is a glitch rather than a feature. In fact, what makes it riotous is he never ever considers the fact that it could be a feature. He thinks it's so bad it could be nothing BUT an error in the programming code. Hilarious! Keep it up!

And I was so tempted to buy Lunar...

Worst DS game I own is Super Mario 64 (not the new one). I get so angry in the adventure section that I want to smash my DS. Thank goodness I bought the new one.

Burnout Legends (or whatever it's called). I bought this at CC for $8.96, read some reviews and I'm taking this crap back.

-HM
Also, it is disabled in multiplayer. So you have to figure it was indeed a "feature" if they consciously took it out to balance the multiplayer. However I can definitely understand why people don't like it.

I guess the reason I don't personally mind it is because The Next Tetris for PS1, my favorite Tetris of all time, had it.

Oh, infinite spin is obviously a feature. I don't much like the idea of it, but I of course use it (how else could I possible hope to get over 200 lines in regular mode?).
Worst thing I played was Sonic Rush. It wasn't necessarily a bad game, but it wasn't very good either... it had no legitimate attempts at platforming and the boss fights were pretty crappy.
Add on that you could die REALLY cheaply on due to some poor level design, be it missing a jump you didn't know it was coming up and falling into a pit, or inadverdently running underneath a platform and getting crushed because you were going too fast.

How is that poor level design? It makes the game more challenging because not only do you have to remember that there's a jump coming up or you're about to hit that area in Altitude Limit where you need to fly the platforms. If anything, they took a lot of the cheapness out of Sonic Rush by giving you the ability to turn on Tension Gauge to run through enemies that appear off the screen.

My only problem with Sonic Rush is that it was way too short. It's fast as hell (most important part of a Sonic game), it's relatively challenging, and it uses the two screens in a pretty awesome fashion. The Sonic 2 bonus levels on the touch screen were a lot of fun even if they made me shout obcenities time and time again. Finally, Hideki Naganuma soundtrack is astoundingly good. It's probably the best domestic DS soundtrack around.

Sonic Rush is a little too short to be a great game, but like New Super Mario Brothers, the experience is really solid. I can't wait for Sonic Rush 2.

Worst DS game so far has been Tao's Adventure. I knew what I was getting into when I bought it, didn't think it'd be so bad. I don't think it's god awful, just not real good. Mainly bought it since the same team made Azure Dreams, hoping to have that same experience.

Another stinker is the Pretty Cure game, import. It's so damn basic, and easy as hell. I should expect this given the source, but it looked like a classic beat em up.

Well see that's the thing. I never really had that bad of a cheapness problem in the older Sonic games. In Sonic Rush, however, it has too much of a trial an error feel to it. I don't think I should HAVE to die the first time (or first several times) through a level just so I'll know where all the tricky jumps are in the future.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Snowboard Kids DS. Man, has this game aged poorly. I thought the N64 version was OK, but the controls don't work on the DS. Worst money I've spent on my DS by far.

I also disliked Yoshi Touch and Go (only paid $15, and still felt ripped off... it was barely a game), hated Polarium (for the same reasons as Yoshi), and Pokemon Trozei was also a major letdown. I bought Lunar, but haven't played it enough to hate it yet. At least the graphics are pretty. Can't say that about these others.

On the other hand, the DS's large number of hits more than make up for these stinkers.

I haven't hated any of the DS games I've owned because I'm very careful about which games I spend money on, but certainly my least favorite was Mr. Driller. I just couldn't get into it. It made me long for the simplicity of the original Dig Dug.

While I enjoyed the gameplay of Puyo Pop Fever I couldn't stomach its sicky-sweet cutesy-ness. Ugh.

Chronicles of Narnia, I think... otherwise I would actually have to say Nintendogs, but only because of the whole time issue. If they want to target the casual gamer, I think they should have given that game a setting so you didn't have to play once or twice a day unless you really wanted to. I ended up selling my copy recently. I sort of miss it, but then I have no desire to play every day, either... so...

Stay away from King Kong on the DS. My little cousin got his parents to spend $35 on it. I tried the game out and w-o-w it was awful. Stick to the console version of this game and avoid the DS version at all cost!

I watched the video of Burnout for the DS on IGN and even the video convinced me not to buy it and I am a BIG Burnout fan! The video for Marvel Nemesis didn't look so great either.

I've been pretty cautious about the quality of games. Yes, Ive bought some doozies, but I've been quick to no longer own them. The worst game that I have owned has probably been Burnout DS or Super Mario 64 DS. The former was just plain bad, and the latter is a great game on the N64 but I just couldn't get over the frustrating controls.

Obviously none of you have played Retro Atari... I got it for about $7 during last fall's TRU Green Tag sale, and man... what a stink bomb. I remembered some of those games being pretty fun way back when, but I guess it's true what they say, you can never go home again.

I would have to say EA has the worst streak on DS, almost all of there game have bombed. Burnout, Marvel Nemesis, Goldeneye, Tiger woods, Need for Speed, The Urbz. Stay away EA, just please stay away from our precious DS.

I'd have to say Snood: On Vacation. What surprised me is that the game is extremely simple and they still couldn't get it to work right.

Close runner-up is Feel the Magic. Sure, it was cool seeing everything you could do on the DS, but none of the mini-games were that great in my opinion.

I traded both in about two months ago and haven't missed either at all.

Someone in the CC thread said they picked up Marvel Nemesis at the CC sale so when I was there yesterday I snagged one, thinking there must be something to it. WRONG! It is going back ASAP (haven't opened it):

http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ds/marvelnemesisriseoftheimperfects

That is an atrocious score.

Not that it matters much to most people, but here's the bottom of the Metacritic list. Gives you a good idea of the bottom of the barrel, in any case:

101 Space Invaders Revolution 2005 49
102 Top Gun 2006 48
103 Sprung 2004 48
104 Pokemon Dash 2005 46
105 Zoo Tycoon DS 2005 44
106 Pac-Man World 3 2005 44
107 FIFA Street 2 2006 43
108 Burnout Legends 2005 40
109 Animaniacs: Lights, Camera, Action 2005 39
110 Super Black Bass Fishing 2006 39
111 Real Time Conflict: Shogun Empires 2005 35
112 Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects 2005 34
113 Dragon Booster 2005 33
114 Dino Master 2006 29
115 Ping Pals 2004 28
116 Peter Jackson's King Kong 2005 28

This is everything rated below 50. I'll have to pick me up a King Kong when I can get it dirt cheap, to add to my collection of the single worst games of each system (I have Drake for Xbox so far). Sure, it is tied with Ping Pals, but I don't really consider Ping Pals a "game".

The only game I own out of that list is Sprung, and I haven't played it yet.

I have Lunar, and don't think it is as bad as everyone else does. True enough, I never finished it, but it wasn't too bad. Not being able to target enemies is slightly annoying, but not the end of the world. I'd say it is definitely worth picking up at the CC sale price.

FWIW, Lunar has a 59 average on metacritic.

I desperately want to play the 3D flying missions in Star Wars Ep III but I think you have to play through some of the sidescrolling parts first. I only ever played it once or twice when I got it a year ago, but I just couldn't get past Dooku to complete the first mission. I hate 2D fighters though (they are the whole reason I got out of video games in the late 80's, early 90's). But I guess I'll pick it up again soon and give it a shot.

That list is about right, except I have no idea how ping pals beat king kong. I mean ping pals isnt even a game. With king kong you maybe get a $1 woth of fun out of it, but ping pals? What were they smoking.

I only buy decent games, but out of all of them I'd say that Pac N Roll rates only as fair.

New Super Mario is a good game in it's own right but a letdown for me as far as the Mario Franchise goes. I'm having more fun with Drill Dozer.

that metacritic list is the bottom games with 5 or more reviews... if you actually look at all reviewed games, elf bowling 1 & 2 comes in last with a score of 12.

Burnout is just awful. King Kong is hardly a game either. More of a tech demo. "How crappily can we write a piece of software."

I guess the Retro Atari collection counts as the worst DS cart I have, but even so, I paid like $10 for it and i think I've gotten that much fun out of it (I like Centipede).

This thread has reminded me of something I saw repeatedly in the monstrous CC $8.96 sale thread: people buying games without having any clue how awful they are (e.g. King Kong DS). I mean, I realize they're cheap, but come on! Don't you check reviews before you purchase? A true CAG wants to get at least $9 worth of fun from a $9 game. Then again, I guess we all set that $9 fun bar at different heights.

Another vote for Retro Atari. These were the games of my youth, and I was prepared to love them on the DS. Controls sucked, and the updates changed everything that was good about the originals. I got it for free with that $10 Amex survey money that came around last year, and got $6 in trade, and still feel ripped off.
go shoot yourself (yeah, i'm a ftm fanboy)

Worst game would have to be retro atari. got boring after 5 min...
The controls are the worst for this game. They try to do everything, unnaturally, through the touch-pad. It's like trying to play a driving game with a touch-tone pad from a telephone.

They also, in my opinion, handled the split screen poorly.

They did get one thing right: The drift on the control for the Pong and Breakout games (you can use the D-Pad there) works wonderfully.

I paid $6 for it. I paid $6 too much.

I wouldn't even recommend it as a curiosity deal for $1 or $2 (when you see it at the bottom of the barrel at Circuit City).
I'd have to say Snood: On Vacation. What surprised me is that the game is extremely simple and they still couldn't get it to work right.
Seconded. The PC/Mac version of Snood has always been fun. The DS version... not so much, unfortunately.

I don't own any games I don't like. :D

I guess I'm not as picky as you guys. I love Mario 64, Polarium, Yoshi Touch 'n' Go (the latter two I sold to afford the Lite... now I want them back ), Pac 'n' Roll and Sonic Rush. (I LOVE SONIC RUSH)

So far I've stayed away from the real stinkers (EA games, novelty shovelware) so I have nothing to complain about!

Hooray for me! :D

I think I need to amend my submission...I think AC:WW is actually less interesting to me now than Electroplankton, if only because without NES games to try and collect, it boils down to getting furniture, bugs, fish, and fossils, and its just to simplistic and repetitive for my tastes.

I just have such a perfect collection of first-party and/or A-list games, one that suits my personals tastes to a T, its hard to pick out one I hate the least. If I had made the mistake of buying Nintendogs as I once almost did, it wouldn't be the case...I dodged a huge bullet there. Interestingly enough, I only paid full price for three of these games - Tetris, Phoenix Wright, and Brain Age - the rest I got for the prices listed next to the games.

My collection, ranked:

1) New Super Mario Bros (27.99)
2) Tetris DS (29.99)
3) Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (29.99)
4) True Swing Golf (8.96)
5) Mario Kart DS (24.99)
6) Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time (19.99)
7) Brain Age (19.99)
8) Meteos (8.96)
9) Metroid Pinball (8.96)
10) Electroplankton (20.00)
11) Animal Crossing: Wild World (24.99)

***UNRANKED***

Advance Wars: Dual Strike (8.96)
------->have not played yet!...damn you CC sale...too many games!

I passionately challenge any PSP fan to justify paying 250 for a PSP when you can get a DS Lite and about 4 of the games from the above list for pretty much the same price (I understand you can get PSPs for much less, but I'm just going off MSRP) The DS has become my favorite handheld of all time, and after spending the weekend playing a ton of single-card multiplayer with my brother, its high in the running for best all-time overall...on a related note, the minigames in New Super Mario Bros frickin rock in multiplayer...I mean, you can set it to shuffle mode and its a lot like Mario Party DS.

Sadly, ever since I bought my DS Lite, I haven't played my computer games. That says something. I really dislike the idea of consoles, and for me to be hooked on this system, it says something about the quality of the games.

As a computer nerd, I will say the PSP looks nice and is a really pretty system. It's obviously superior in terms of capability to the DS. BUT, if I want that, I'd just go back to my PC gaming. The DS gives me a very portable package with games that I can play in small increments if I like, or longer sessions if I desire. All for a good price (the PSP is just too expensive for me to justify). It does the same job as solitaire or Minesweeper, but is much better than those two games.

I only have 7 games, but I dig them all. In order of purchase: New Super Mario, Metroid/Hunters, Advance Wars DS, Trauma Center, Phoenix Wright, Castlevania: DoS, Tetris DS (bought last two at same time).
