Which should I get: New or Used Xbox?

I'm wanting to pick up the original xbox and was wondering if I should go new or used. I'm thinking if I want new, I should get it soon. I'm not seeing it in as many stores now. I'm just not wanting to pay for the bundled game that's with the new consoles.
I just finished KHII. I wonder how much I could get for that?
 
You can probably still get $25-30 for Kingdom Hearts II depending how you sell it. Go on eBay and surely you can get $25 for it unless the market's been flooded.
 
you dont have to get the xbox new, you could get one used, if you get it at ebgames or gamestop, be sure to get an extended warranty, bc it could have DREs.

Or if you get it off of ebay, or the trade forums here, make sure you buy from someone with good feedback.
 
I'll probably be selling my xbox and everything + 8 games on here once I get past the 30 day membership mark... Unfortunately I won't have ANY feedback as this is my first sale online. But if you want, you can look when it's up or just PM me.

Most definitely get a new one. I bought a used one before and it would keep freezing up on my games. Got my money back and bought a new one instead.

I second that. If you did happen to get a used Xbox then search for that picture that shows the difference between the Thompson and Samsung drives. Make sure you don't get a Thompson.
 
Definitely get a new one. I've gone through 3 used systems and my new system has lasted the longest. You definitely don't want a Thompson drive. If you're planning to mod though, you want a used system in order to avoid getting a 1.6 model.
 
I got a used one at EB. First one was dead within an hour. Took it back, had it swapped out for a better maintained box. They had about 6 used, I went through them to check for cosmetic dings.

I got the dreaded 1.6. Modded it, swapped out the HD for a 300gig, and have never looked back.

No question about it. Go used. Kick the hell outta the tires in that first day to make sure it's not going to dud on you.

You could still get a Thompson drive in a new Xbox.

If you buy a used one in a b&m store, you can check to see which drive it has. There are pictures of each drive tray available online, learn which is which and then check out the used Xboxes at GS or EB or wherever, and only buy one with the SAMSUNG drive. You want the Samsung, trust me.

I ended up getting a new one today at gamestop. I traded in Kingdom hearts 2 and got $35 to put towards it. I noticed that I really like the controller. The first game I put in was Serious Sam, which I found for $1 at a garage sale. The xbox controller seems to work a lot better for fps games than the dual shock. I think I might actually start Panzer dragoon orta or one of the other sega games I picked up.

Enjoy your new system. Plenty of great, and cheep games you can pick up for it. So which drive did you get inside?

Their is definately a lot of great games that are really cheap. If you just got an xbox now it's a gamers paradise with all the games that are available.
 
Congrats on your buy, I've had an Xbox since launch and it's served me well (it's still running great today, though it's now modded... ;)). I've heard stories of people buying pre-owned Xboxes and finding them to be modded with a load of emulators, ROMs and games stored on the harddrive. Though what really is a shame is that the Xbox > 360 transfer almost seems complete, with only a handful of Xbox titles emerging in the next year or so... :cry:
 
It really depends. I bought the xbox with the bundled games, but the games were really ok, nothing spectacular. check ebay for great prices. Used or new, it;ll still play your games.
 
I would just go used and make sure it does not have a thomson drive. Samsung is probably preferable, as it can read cd-r, but phillips are not bad either. You may come across one with an LG/Hitachi drive, which also seem to work well, although you can't really be sure how long it will last as they are relatively new.

I guess I've been lucky, no problems with my Xbox and I've had it since around launch.

The only problem with my drive is that... it doesn't read CDRs, so I have a very limited collection of music on my Xbox. I guess it doesn't matter that much since, there really isn't all that many games that take advantage of custom soundtracks.

I had that problem too. Then it stopped reading real music CD's, then it stopped reading Xbox game discs... then it stopped being in my Xbox cos I replaced it with the Samsung drive.

Get yourself a Samsung drive, reads cdrs like nobody's business. Then you can make some kickass soundtracks for Burnout or San Andreas.
 
Store+used xbox+ warrenty + memory card= Ability to return in 6 months/1 year with all needed saves in your pocket + remainder of your money (-warrenty costs $10?)

Well, if it dies on me, I'll get one with a Samsung drive.

Although, I might just get a 360. Despite it having terrible backward compatibility.
