CAGiversary!
I don't understand why their video game hardware is cheaper than other places (especially with the 10% activation coupon). That makes their Xbox 360 sell for only $360 or even a $130 PS2 goes for $117. Are they legit? I want to know before I place my order there.

P.S. Couldn't tell if this was the right forum.

They're a perfectly legit site. Quick and cheap shipping. Hell, they even honor price mistakes sometimes, see the Overstock $307 Xbox 360 thread.

But how do they get away with selling so cheap when a major retailer like Best Buy doesn't have as good deals? BTW, if I buy a console there, it is guaranteed NEW and not a refurb/used right?

Overstock.com is a legit site.

I was searching the internet for prices on a premium xbox 360, however, and came across this site: http://www.duty-freestores.com/default.asp

Now, I am pretty reluctant to actually place an order there, seeing as their xbox 360 bundle seems way too cheap to be legit. However, I know that there are a lot of savvy online consumers on CAG and I figured that I'd run it by you guys.

Oh, and sorry icecubed if it seems like I'm trying to take control of the thread/divert people's attention from your initial post, but I figured that because my question was of the same nature as yours that I'd throw mine in.

that site must be wayyyy to good to be true

From what I remember with other stores online in the past their stock is such that they can take a bit of a loss here and there when it comes to certain items because they're still making a killing on others.

For example, I remember when HitMeNow.com bought the remainder of stock from a gigantic distribution center for various media stores around the US after the distro went under. At first they were offering all of those products for around 25% off MSRP with super-cheap shipping, which was good enough for most people. Then, the titles started going for $10 a pop rather than $30. Keep in mind, all of these DVDs were new (CDs as well, albeit for much lower prices). It finally reached a point where they still had so much stock they were blowing out everything else for $5 for DVDs, less for the CDs.

And the best part? One of their PR people still said that that was as low as they could put the price while still making a good profit off of what they paid per DVD/CD in the buyout. End Result: Everyone was saving bundles on quality titles and the business was still making hefty profits even if it seemed like they were giving everything away.

Now, they probably are losing quite a bit on the 360's and other similarly priced consoles but they're probably more than making it up on other items that they're selling.

and the fact they shipped out probally 100,000's of free ATL movies in that price misprint.

Yup, Having made several orders in the past year, Overstock is one of my favorite online retailers now. The on ly thing is they have limited stock of a lot of stuff, so if you find a kick ass deal it may be gone next time you look as their stock runs out.

Check out their FAQ: http://www.duty-freestores.com/faq.asp

Things to note are the method of payment and 'minimum order.' Hmmm...

Overstock STEALS FROM THE POOR AND SELLS TO THE RICH!! HAGAHAGAGAGGAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH I AM ROBBING HOOD!!! I steal from the POOR and I sell to THE RICH!!!
sketchy sketchy sketchy. The FAQ is in engrish, a minimum of $400 per order, and they can only do money transfers? Stay away.
Thanks for the input. I was very skeptical of the site, and your comment made my mind. I'll just look for a decent price on a 360 elsewhere.

I'm thinking about ordering a PS2 at overstock. Is there shipping nauseatingly slow? I want to order one today or tomorrow but don't want to if it won't be here by this upcoming Monday, 7/31/06.

I think everyone is overlooking the main reason why overstock.com is so cheap. You must remember that they are only an online store. Which means that they don't have to pay for the lease on thousands of different stores. They also don't have weekly flyers, which can also become costly. They also don't need as many workers as a B&M store. And there are many other things that allow them to have low prices, such as:

Utility
Furnishings
Security
and some other costs that affect the big chains

Not to mention that they don't have physical loss. Best Buy, Wal Mart, and all the rest have a ton of shit stolen from them all the time. Overstock only loses large amounts of money when they don't catch an inventory error fast enough.

I ordered a 360, two games, and a controller, and it took three days. It was shipped Priority, but I have no idea if that's the norm.

They do have television commercials in my cable market sometimes, with that hot woman who says "The Big O" in a rather suggestive way.

Not that commercials on television means legitimacy, but hey, she's hot in them there commercials.
