WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2008 Gen. Discussion
So far I'm not crazy about the whole "fighting style" thing. And removing the stamina system may just be a dealbreaker for me... I was very fond of it!

Haha I feel like such a nerd cliche saying it, but I'm sure glad that FirePro game is coming out next month...
Its funny you mentioned Fire Pro. I was going to suggest trying Fire Pro Returns to those who dislike this years Smackdown.
Ha, I love how Cena kicks out after the Super RKO counter that would keep an elephant down.

Game imitates life.
Why would an elephant be leaping from the top rope anyway

so the demo disc and the xblm demo are exactly the same right? id figure so. just curious. i have the demo disc. ima have to play it again to see that super rko. looks nuts

The stamina system is still in the game. Keep running around and you will have to stop to regain stamina. Just now instead of holding a button to regain it you just stand there. I had to do it with Taker tonight.

I didn't know how to run.

Essientally it seemed like the same game to me, but I'll give it a try. I like the interface, it reminded me of the old PS1 SD days for some reason. And it loaded up super quick. It probably won't be like that in the retail game, becuase there they have to load up EVERYTHING ( HD, your save ).

I'm kind of iffy on a purchase of this. Felt the same as 2007.... However, I love the new run system. Much better than just pressing a single button.

Admit it: it's killing you. We're mere weeks from the release of WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw 2008, and there's still so much you don't know -- so much you want to play (24/7 Mode!), see (Flaming tables!) and do (Anything with Kelly Kelly!).

At IGN, we wish we could sympathize with you, but we can't. We get to play SVR '08 everyday. Ha-ha.

However, the good folks at THQ aren't as coldhearted. They were nice enough to pass along a detailed breakdown of SVR '08's brand new Tournament and Hall of Fame modes along with a handful of screens.

Go on. Get your headlock on.

Tournament

Go, CM Punk!

The SmackDown! vs. Raw series has always been first and foremost about the fans, so when players asked for the return of tournament-style gameplay, we gave it to them. In WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw 2008, we're taking last year's popular PSP-exclusive Road To WrestleMania Mode and expanding it to give users even more tournament types as well as options to create their very own brackets for participation.

The main components of the mode are the King of the Ring and the brand new Beat The Clock Sprint tournaments. Inspired by the historic reign of RAW Superstar King Booker, the King of the Ring tourney throws players right in the middle of a single-elimination battle for the crown. If the player can outlast the 15 other Superstars, he gets to choose a WWE Diva as his queen and is treated to a special coronation ceremony that is truly fit for a king. The Beat the Clock Sprint is a unique tournament that was featured in both SmackDown and RAW programming this year and is the perfect addition to WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw 2008's Tournament Mode. The bracket consists of one round of singles or tag team matches with up to 16 participants, where the object is simple: the Superstar who beats their opponents in the fastest time will be crowned the winner.

wwe-smackdown-vs-raw-2008-20071022091047128-000.jpg

Pick your poison.

In addition, players can build their very own tournament experience by selecting our Create Tournament feature. Players have the option of tailoring King of the Ring, SmackDown vs. Raw, Road to WrestleMania and Money in the Bank brackets to their liking, even putting WWE Championships on the line. And for the first time ever, users can create and name their own custom tournaments, with up to 16 Superstars, where the winner takes all.

Hall of Fame Mode

Being inducted into the hallowed halls of the WWE Hall of Fame is the ultimate goal for every Superstar that steps foot in a WWE ring. In WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw 2008, players can attempt to do just that by recreating some of the greatest moments in WWE History.

The Road to the WWE Hall of Fame begins on January 22, 1995; the day Shawn Michaels entered the Royal Rumble as the first participant and outlasted 29 other men to stand victorious in the end. Players can then complete in various challenges along the timeline: reliving Bret Hart and HBK's epic WrestleMania XII Iron Man Match; using the Undertaker to defeat Mick Foley's in their brutal 1998 Hell in the Cell Match and taking on the Hardys in the first-ever TLC Match at SummerSlam 2000.

You can't see me!

Each time a player completes a challenge, his Hall of Fame meter will fill as he rises from Jobber to Main Eventer to finally Hall of Famer. WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw 2008's Hall of Fame Mode is reserved for only the best of the best. Do you have what it takes to cement your place in WWE history?

When is the shut off date for the pre order at liongames.com? I might have to wait a while on this game, as I'm getting other games first next month...

I guess I could wait on this, and gamefly it until the price drops some.

This sounds pretty cool, I'm not a huge wrestling fan, but I enjoy wrestling games. This is probably something I'd pick up during a DOTD or a big sale.

I thought I would bump the thread since the game is out this upcoming Tuesday, hopefully there's some good DLC down the road

I came close to having the game today but Wal-Mart could not sell due to the stupid Street date, here's my idea for my ECW roster as a GM on 24/7 mode:

CM Punk, Elijah Burke, Mr Kennedy, Shad, JTG, Kenny Dykstra, Umaga, Finlay, MVP, Matt Hardy, Jeff Hardy, Marcus Cor Von, Gregory Helms, Johnny Nitro, Carlito

Where can I find what the controls are for the demo? The only time I've seen the controls for the demo is during a loading screen, and its up for only a few seconds.

no idea...check gamefaqs? ;)

For some reason, I cannot get into this game. The 24/7 mode is kinda boring. Maybe it's just the control type or something. And you can only choose from 19 stars in 24/7 mode, which is LAME.

Okay, let me address two concerns:

ONE: Reviewers saying that there is no "rest" option in career mode. There is. Not on days you wrestle, mind you, but on days inbetween, there is a "R&R" option under daily activities.

TWO: I know that they confirmed that you could use custom soundtracks, but did they mention that you could also edit the themes of superstars already created in the game (fuckING FINALLY!!!!). The game seemed 132874982364823648736x more awesome when I had Dreamer come out to "Man in the Box".

Oh, and the generic ECW theme is in, which is great. At least it wasn't the most recent ECW theme. Looks like I can now upload more song packs for you guys!
no idea...check gamefaqs? ;)
Of course I did. The only FAQ they had is an italian walkthrough FAQ. Since I don't speak Italian, it is of no help.

Seriously? I thought the only exclusions were ECW guys.

Hardcore style is great. Tap "A" near their head and they climb on their chest or back. Hit left or right on the right thumbstick to beat the shit out of them.

Here's the people you can be in 24/7:

Batista, Carlito, Chavo, Chris Masters, Edge, Jeff Hardy, John Cena, Johnny Nitro, Kane, King Booker, Matt Hardy, Mr. Kennedy, Randy Orton, Rey Mysterio, Ric Flair, Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Undertaker, and William Regal.

For those of you keeping score at home, excluded from 24/7 mode:

Bobby Lashley, CM Punk (ECW), Elijah Burke (ECW), Finlay, Great Khali, Gregory Helms, JBL, JTG, Kenny Dykstra, Marcus Cor Von (ECW), Mark Henry, MVP, Sandman (Even though he's part of the RAW faction on the game), Shad, Shane McMahon, Snitsky, Umaga, Mr. McMahon, Sabu (ECW), Terry Funk (ECW), Tommy Dreamer (ECW), and the legends: Bret Hart, Mick Foley, Rick Rude, The Rock, Roddy Piper, Steve Austin

i cant wait for that either.. here's what i still need..

sandman edit- (original metallica song just seems to take so long to kick in)
john morrison- have a crappy one
terry funk ecw
candice michelle new

I hate that the game icon for this is extremely similar to 2007. Jeeze, ya think they would make them a little bit more different?!

One other thing I was wondering. For create-an-entrance, can you delay when the wrestler comes out so you can time some pyro with a portion of the song like say 25 seconds into the song, and then have the wrestler come out? I guess it would be sort of like Goldberg's entrance in the sense that his arrival is delayed from when the music starts. Sort of like Jericho's too I suppose.

No. The only thing you can edit is motion, fireworks, screen effects, lighting, motion, champion entrance, and entrance movie.

I'll make some edits for the themes but it won't be until later this week

Ok maybe Im doing something completely wrong but I cant get it to let me change themes for the existing wrestlers. I have music on my hard drive but when I go to User Playlist or whatever in the create an entrance it does nothing. Am I missing something? I do have all my songs on my hard drive in one playlist, They dont have to me in a separate playlist do they?

I have Candice's new one.

does it sound any good.. i found one too but it was short..

i did find a somewhat decent wwf rude theme...

totally picked it up on impulse today (despite the fact that i got it for $26 too). i'll prolly sit down with it extensively tonight after some studying.
i always pick up the game regardless every year.. its not perfect but the custom soundtracks make it a must buy...
What he said.

The game really, really becomes this whole other beast once you learn to play as a certain style. For example, I didn't like the technical style.. lots of submissions and holds. Couldn't stand it. I picked the Sandman afterwards, the hardcore style, and I love it. I can take a chair and wedge my opponent's neck or foot in it and jump on it, I can set tables on fire, I can set 2x4's on fire, I get a second wind when I bleed..

I love the GM mode in this version, a lot more than 07. I hated playing this game for the first few minutes, but after half an hour, I was sucked in.

Man, you guys are making me want to get the game even though I'm bummed that you cant have your wrestler come out at a delayed point in the entrance theme. I'm a huge WWE fan but I haven't really played a wrestling game since Just Bring It. I rented the game last year and loved the GM mode, but never bought the game.

The main issue I have with getting it is that I doubt I'm very good at actually playing the game, so I'd probably stick to solo play besides getting the online achievements, and the career mode sounds like it sucks. Not sure GM mode alone is worth the purchase, even with the discounted price at TRU.

Anyone have a clear version of Rick Rude's theme song? I'd like to keep it saved on my computer until I get the game. The song I have is crappy quality.

mines isnt too great either but it should get the job done... i was looking for his ecw theme as well but could not find it.

Also i havent even really played in depth with the styles. The only thing i noticed is that for some styles, your special meter doesnt go up when you taunt.

I also dont like that they dont have the face/heel option when selecting superstars.

Also i tried to beat stone cold in the hall of fame submission challenge with bret hart but i got wooped dirty

This is the best sounding theme I could find. It's from a youtube video.

DISCLAIMER: I am not here to bash wrestling. I'm sorry I did that a while back.

Just wanted to stop in say that the last wrestlign game I owned was WWF vs. NWO and it was awesome. THe battle royals we could get going on with 4 player rumbles were sick. You could pick up chairs and smash people on the head with em, awesome.

What he said

The inclusion of ECW in GM makes me :D
anyone have a good version of booker's WCW music? I hate the king music he comes out to.
i was going to change that as well.. i saw his old entrance was in the game too..

wouldnt mind his tna theme either but its prob to soon for that

i searched for 'face,' 'plate,' and 'faceplate' and didnt come up with anything. how the freak do you get one of those faceplates?????

Is there a website for CAS and CAE music? Id love to update some of these wrestlers with there OLD music instead heh. I know im trying to play a game with OLD gimmicks with new wrestlers. Its just the way i am.

I was trying to get these done before I was out of town for a few days but wasn't able to...so I'm late to the party I guess, since this thread is already halfway down page 2. Here are a few theme edits I did. All of these audio clips either edited to an appropriate starting point, or volume boosted so you can actually hear it (the game needs it to be really loud), or both.

1. Dimmu Borgir - Hybrid Stigmata. Delirious' theme from Ring of Honor...working on an edit right now but the mask is a big pain in the ass with this crappy editor.

2. Enter Sandman - Metallica. Obvious. Clipped so it starts during the louder part. Tested and works well with Sandman.

3. Nine Inch Nails - Closer (Precursor). This was just sort of a bonus...not used by anyone to my knowledge, but works well as a theme for CAWs. If you've seen the movie Se7en you've heard this.

4. Fanfare from Rocky Balboa/Going the Distance. I edited this together since the Fanfare is short. The timing on the transition is pretty much perfect so it doesn't sound half-assed.

5. Type O Negative - Out of the Fire (Kane's theme). Originally the theme he was going to use when he first took the mask off, they decided against it....unfortunately. Edited so the opening "boom" in the song matches the pyro in the game.

6. NWA - Gangsta Gangsta. You must try using this along with the next one for JTG's entrance. The way it worked out was totally unplanned, but it's pretty amazing how certain parts of this match up with what's on the screen.

7. NWA - fuck tha Police. Same as above, use it for JTG's entrance theme. The "choreography" is almost eerie. If you only try one theme from this pack, make it this one.

8. Alice in Chains - Man in the Box. Obvious #2. Tested and works well with Dreamer.

Game is nothing special but an improvement over last year. Got it for less than 30 after tax with the Mario Galaxy gift card thing at TRU.
