Hey guys, I've recently been looking to pick up a collection of the X-Men animated series that appeared on Fox back in the 90's. So far, this is all I can find...

What do you guys think? Has anyone ever ordered from these guys? If so, how is the quality?

At $79.99 that comes out to just a little over a dollar an episode. Not too bad IMO.

Gotta say I'd really like to see an X-men set. I loved that show. I don't have cable and recently saw both X-men and Spiderman over a friend's house on the Disney channel...and damn....I don't remember Spiderman looking so bad...it looks like it's running at 10 frames a second. X-men still looked fine to me, however.

As for Evolution...meh, I remember watching it a couple years ago on WB (I think?), it was all right; but I still like the original better.
 
I wasn't too big on X-men: Evolution but it got a lot better as the show progressed. The Fox version, unfortunatly, defiently got worse as time went on.

To me, both shows was good in later seasons. For Fox show, The Cannonball episode was horrible in plot and look, but the Mr. Sinister episode was one the best, and explained Sinister better at least to me.
 
yup totally illegal, Finally found all the episodes on the net! man I forgot how good the show was. The muppet dvds are also well worth the wait.
 
I bought the whole series on ebay for 30 bucks back in january, now you can't even find 'em on ebay for less than $70.
 
Check out your local Hollywood videos. I was there today and they are clearing out ALL VHS tapes for $3 each. They had a lot of X-men tapes. Many of them were like 6 episodes, not bad for 3 bucks. My friend bought a few of them.. the Wolverene Saga, the one about Dark Phoenix, and another one. 6 Hours of X-men for $9. The only bad thing is they are VHS, but oh well.
 
Man, don't pay for it you guys! Geeze. I d/led all the episodes of X-Men TAS. They can be easily burned if you want to watch them on your TV. As long as you have high-seed, I think anyone's crazy for paying for something that is widely available on the net for free.

This guy has a ton of television shows that have not yet been released on DVD. I've never ordered from him and the legality may be questionable but it was recommmended by one of IGN DVD's editors in one of their mailbags.

Also the guy's prices don't seem that bad at all...

These DVD's are offered on a collector to collector basis. Any fees incurred for these DVD's are incidental costs. I DO NOT CHARGE FOR THE CONTENT ON THE DVD's. All incurred fees are used for incidental costs including but not limited to discs, handling, VCR/COMPUTER/DVD Recorders maintenance, etc. You are not paying for the content of the video, you are paying for time and other fees. I am not now nor have attempted to profit off of the copyrighted information IN the DVD's

If there was some way we could get this forum to the public the companies might see the demand. Mabey we should start with myspaces and personal web pages. Just so others can see.

Too bad they don't tell you how many discs it is to give you some indication of quality. I wonder if they're recorded from when it used to air on tv, or more likely just the episodes downloaded off the internet.
 
Psst... This show is easily found on bittorrent... and my hard drive. Shh.

Also, anything that these bootleggers sell is 99% of the time, out there on the internet SOMEWHERE. You just gotta dig.
 
"Two volumes".. yeah, sounds like random episodes to me. I'll wait until the entire series is released.. it's only like five seasons.
 
If there are two discs per volume, it is POSSIBLE that it could be seasons 1 and 2 as each contained 13 episodes. However, if Disney is distributing this, they'll find some way to screw it up
 
I think this shit has been out in the UK for a while, i hate that foreign markets seem to get treated better than the domestic sometimes.

They are still okay... I think its one of the few who came out of the 90's still enjoyable. Well written dialogue for a kids cartoon, and they stuck pretty close to the comics. I think its the most faithful to storyline's and characters of all the xmen genre cartoons.

But thats just me, most the fans, and Obama.

Agreed... this show was like my bread and butter (along with Spidey) growing up, but it just isn't as good as I remember. Show worth watching if it's on but it just isn't the same any more. Good for nostalgia but these old Marvel cartoons are extremely dated versus the amazing DCAU stuff. I remember seeing some bad VO clips and hilarious typos and such on the this series as well as the Spider-Man one on the web somewhere.

Still, I might get the two official releases if Amazon has them for a good price, but these shows are generally not as good as we remember.

The dialogue is a bit hammy and poorly delivered at times, but the animation looks just plain awful, as do the overall character designs for that matter. Silly looking, sloppy, and just plain strange. It hurts to watch! As kids, we may have been able to overlook the fact that the show looks like ass, but it's far harder to ignore as an adult.

At least Batman: The Animated Series has aged gracefully, so it's not like the 90's comic book cartoons were a total loss.

Spider-Man was nowhere *near* as faithful as X-Men. Not that sticking close to the source material is important for a successful comic book cartoon, mind you. Don't get me started on how terrible post-season one Spider-Man was.

And again, I don't understand the X-Men Evolution hate. Why was it crap? The show was incredibly well-written and had a distinct personality. Seems that most of the rage stems from the fact that it dared to be different from the older, crappier X-Men cartoon, which for me was a refreshing change. Well one thing I still enjoy the TAS series today, sure the animation may be sub par by today standards. But I think several of the characters fit their comic book profiles well.
Wolverine
Cyclops
Magneto
Beast

And Kirin I don't know how old you are but Spiderman TAS captures the feel of Spiderman from the 80s comic books. Most of us have positive memories of TAS and that's why we still like it. I can say I was in high school when evolution came out and the teenager/Wolverine as mentor idea was dumb. They should have just called it "Generation X" or the "New Mutants."

Now you wanna see a bad superhero show go watch Spiderman and his Amazing friends

Also for the record Justice League Unlimited is awesome it ranks up their as a great animated comic book series.

I agree to a point. If you read X-men Evolution by the cover it looks like shit. But watch a few episodes (maybe after the first season) it's pretty good. The Teen Titans is surprisingly good too. But I still love the "older, crappier X-Men cartoon" more.

That's funny, because as a kid I hardly watched either show, but I started watching them on Jetix last year and I think both of them are great, especially X-Men. i can't fathom someone considering them terrible. I plan on getting them on DVD.

And I liked X-Men Evolution

90's X-Men still has one of the best theme songs ever though
 
I think i like the show so much, because it used the characters and art style from what i think was the best period in the X-Men comics. I can't even read any of the X-Men comics anymore. Beast looks like a damn cat now.

The spiderman series they di on MTV I thought had an awesome look to it.

almost 100 posts of just x-men talk, I Love It!!!!. Add me to the list of those that will pick this up to head down memory lane. I still have about half a dozen episodes that were released on VHS (and another 20 VHS recorded off tv)

I think it is better to have something rather then nothing. But yeah the Disney track record is rough, if it wasn't one of the big budget animated films they don't give a shit.

I agree 100%. I have the episode on DVD where Wolverine and Lady Deathstrike met up and it just hasn't aged well at all. Maybe, I am just spoiled on the DCAU style, but X-Men just doesn't hold up like it should.

I don't understand the Evo hate either. It was fresh in writing and art style.

I'm not one for hyperbole, but I actually think they are terrible now. I can watch older shows like He-Man, She-Ra, Thundercats, and Transformers but X-Men just doesn't seem as good anymore (other than the voice actor for Wolverine). There are still moments that are good, like when they meet up with Juggy, but the overall show I can't hold in the esteem I used to.

That being said, I'd still buy it, but it isn't anything I am in a rush to have.

That's why I'm going to hold off -- Disney already got me once by releasing the first 2 volumes of Power Rangers Jungle Fury, and now giving no indication they plan on finishing the season. I'm not gonna jump on a half-assed X-Men series release, too.
 
That was the best voice that Wolverine has had so far. Why they didn't continue using it is beyond me. To me, that guy is like Kevin Conroy, i can't stand anyone else doing the character's voice.
 
has anyone had the chance to check out the new 'Wolverine & The X-Men' cartoon yet? i haven't but my friend said it was cool so far.

i'd like to see a complete series release of the 90's X-Men cartoon. i don't like these 'greatest hits' compilations. and where the f*@k is the rest of Gargoyles, Disney?!
