Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.

I don't know if anyone has been following Smash Bros, but over the last few days there has been a leak of what seems to be the final roster, that has become more legit over time. If it is real, there is a Microsoft connection, the one you would expect.

Details in the spoiler:

The various Smash communities have done a LOT of detective work here. The below info matches up with a text post roster from a few days before all this happened.

The seven characters confirmed with the leak:

-Shadow the Hedgehog

-Ken Masters (also had a screenshot leak that was very convincing)
-Geno (Super Mario RPG)

-Isaac (Golden Sun)
-Chourus Kids (Rythmn Heaven)
-Mach Rider (NES representative)

-Banjo and Kazooie

It's also believed that the 5 characters from games that aren't already represented will each have a stage, because a Japanese magazine said 108 stages then changed to 103 in a later issue.

As for Banjo, we know Spencer just made another trip to Japan, and right after the BK trademark was renewed. It could be a coincidence but it could be a final sign-off on the character. XO2018 is coming up and it would be pretty earth-shattering if they had Nintendo show up with a Banjo trailer at it.

There are a lot of steps that have lead to the strong belief that it's real:

-First, someone posted a very blurry image of a banner on SnapChat, which is the large painted art Nintendo keeps adding characters to.
-Aforementioned leaker is a 200 IQ genius, doesn't cover his name enough so people figure out who he is.
-His LinkedIn profiles are found, connects him to a French printing company that has worked with Bandai Namco in the past

-Company puts out a damage control statement saying he hasn't worked there in a few years, and they aren't currently working with Bamco.

-A second printing company, ACP-PLV, which it's believed he actually works at now is discovered.
-Digging around, people find a video that shows this company's work process, which just so happens to show template that matches the images in the Smash leak.

-Earlier today, this 2 year old video was taken down.
fuck, there are so many SEGA characters and they decide to go with edgy hedgehog with rollerskates, chest hair and a gun. Hoping it isn't true just based on that garbage character.

It's because he's probably an Echo Fighter (slightly changed clone). I would have preferred Tails or Knuckles myself.

Countdowns.

Got Bloodstained, and it's pretty great. You can finish it in less than two hours, it's very retro and plays just like Castlevania, but also has checkpoints and pretty generous 1-ups. Additional modes can be unlocked by finishing the game, though, if you like it there is plenty to do, and it's short enough that it can be finished in one sitting. Definitely worth $7, and if this is any indication of what to expect from the full Bloodstained game, that's pretty exciting.

Had ever heard of Soma (or paid attention, anyway) before this sale but it looks really good. I have so many games I still haven't finished, though.

It's because he's probably an Echo Fighter (slightly changed clone). I would have preferred Tails or Knuckles myself.
If they're going to fuck with more echo fighters, I wish they'd do Proto Man instead. Tails would be great, too.

I've been staying away from CAG and will continue to do so until I'm out of debt. Miss you all. I hope to be out out debt by January and setting a strict video game budget. Much of it came from buying too many game stuff before completely paying off medical bills.

On the plus side, I have been going through my Xbox, PS4, and Switch backlogs like crazy.

With Game Pass, I usually download almost every new game, try it, then decide to keep or delete. I had a "racing" game installed for a few weeks from Game Pass. I'm very picky about my racing games. They can't be too realistic, but also not so arcadey that players can win using cheap powerups or you need to be very experienced to win. Finally decided to try this "racing" game, only to find out it isn't a racing game at all. You drive cars on a track with other drivers, but there is no racing. This game is Onrush. Instead of racing, you complete objectives such as scoring more points than the other team or capturing a moving hill. If you fall behind the herd, you get teleported right back into the action. The game is fast paced, chaotic, and fun. Most online games I've played have come down the very last second to win. I did read disconnections were a huge problem, but I've only had one and that was when the power to my router was turned off. The music is also fantastic.

I've been digging Soma a lot, one of the better written/dialog games of that type.

How long has it been since you got the 250 gamerscore cause on the ms rewards reddit I’ve seen people say it took them 5-7 days to get it to check off and sometimes even longer.
It's been a day or two since did that, I'll at least see what MS Rewards says about it. Chances are they won't be much help though. So more than likely I'll just have to wait it out. Thanks for the info, I didn't even think to check it out on reddit.

Had issues with that and the scavenger hunt. Sent MS Rewards an email with pictures of each page and was fixed for me within two days. Of course, log ins then became an issue so I updated my original ticket and that was fixed two days later. All 3 were completed yesterday.
Where did you contact them? haven't had time to deal with it, but Moon Gate won't disappear so that I can start Badlands. And I never got my Halo or Division rewards.

Not too bad

But if Microsoft did an Xbox Classic what games would you want featured ?
Eh, I’ll take list of games I never want to replay/play for $2000 Alex.

Like I know this will sell gangbusters, and I loved the psx, but these games don’t hold nearly the nostalgic appeal, and a lot / almost all had/are/have been available on psn for peanuts. Also not having dualshock controllers is an abomination.

Japan definetly got a better games list on the count that you can play RPG's and shoot em ups just fine with a d-pad. I Can't imagine Rainbow Six or Syphon Filter standing the test of time besides Syphon Filter's amazing taser that sets people on fire when you tase them too long.

Just curious: anyone other folks with Xbone X having issues with their system getting loud as hell while playing RDR2? I’ve had some fan noise from other games but nothing even close to the jet engine my console becomes when playing this.
Me, right here. It's in a well-ventilated entertainment center, seems I've had a bit of fan noise with Battlefront 2, but RDR makes it sound like a 50s vacuum pretty often. I sit about 8 feet away, and it gets distractingly loud. Gonna send it in.

Game Pass:

Rise and Shine looks fun, never heard of it. Short, hectic 2D action game.

PS Classic:

Puzzle Fighter 2 is a welcome addition, played countless rounds with friends in undergrad. The lineup definitely hits plenty of high notes but the idea of playing MGS without analog sticks or force feedback sure sounds lackluster. Most of all, they could easily add a Bluetooth piece to the hardware to use Dual Shock 3-4 controllers. The PSP Go, PSTV had it, and at this point, it's got to be basically all the same software emulation.

No Alpha 2 or 3 is disappointing.

Rise and Shine is way too difficult for its own good and was savaged in reviews because of it if I recall. Never released a patch to tone it down either. I have it from some cheap sale. Played a few times and never looked back.

Sniper Elite 4 is a nice addition.

Look forward to seeing what comes from X018. I’d bet that they will be completely new games debuting on GP and gotta love those!

Olli Olli too. It's a pretty tricky mechanic to get down, and even when you do, some of the levels are way too tough. Hopefully 2 is a bit easier than the first. Definitely easier to give it a shot with Game Pass! The service that keeps on killing it!

Don't mean to derail the PS Classic talk here on the XBL thread ;-) but I'm having a blast playing AC Odyssey (level 42 with 60 hours in and still on chapter 4). Despite not owning a 4K TV (yet), the damn game looks stunningly beautiful on my 50-inch 1080p set.

I'm more excited for the mythical creature boss fights than the rest of the actual campaign (though I do need to progress a bit more in order to uncover certain foes that are tied to the story's progress), which is why I'm trying to get to level 50 as soon as possible.

Also.... Kassandra's voice actress is far better than the guy voicing Alexios, IMHO. Just like with Mass Effect, I went with the female character as I can't stand the wooden performance from the male character voice.

The lineup is hard to judge, I want to say it's slightly better than I expected but there are a lot of questionable games on there.

-Persona 1 is a nice surprise, though I know nothing about it.

-Three puzzle games is kind of iffy, at least they're all pretty different.

-You can make an argument for RE1 over 2, though it's harder to go back to with REmake existing. I can't say the same for GTA and Twisted Metal, definitely should have used GTA2 and either TM2 or 3. The sequels are major improvements in those cases.

-Three-ish shooters are probably too many without sticks, but Metal Gear and Syphon Filter do both deserve to be there.

-No Crash or Spyro was expected, no Tomb Raider is disappointing.

-At least two, maybe three wasted slots.

It's cool to see Battle Arena Toshinden on the PS Classic, loved that game. Also awesome to see GRIP on Game Pass, I wanted to play that game and now I'll be able to right away!

I'm guessing GWG announcement will come tomorrow, in place of or alongside BC, since GWG additions often result in new BC additions if a game isn't BC already.

I think this is the first time Battle Arena Toshinden has been re-released since the original ps1/saturn/pc version

I don’t know if it’s the fact I was late to the PS party or what, but there’s only 4 games in that list that are truly “essential”... FF7, MGS, Tekken 3, and Twisted Metal. I’d say Resident Evil is too, except for the fact a vastly superior remake is available for current consoles.

Have they said anything about OG Xbox Backwards Compatibility? It has been ages since more of those games have been more available
At this point I'd say it's a safe bet to expect them at XO18 since it's only a couple weeks away. They come in batches and it's been about 6 months since the last one.

Just realized Rainbow Six is on there.

Woof. Literally no one wants to play this game 20 years later, especially with a d-pad.

Looking at the list again, it seems like they went with a few obvious gems, and then went with whatever was cheapest for licensing. RE2 would have been great marketing ahead of the remake to play the original. Twisted Metal 2 improved on the original in just about every way.

And no Symphony of the Night... well, that's just insulting.

I Think the real victim here is Psycho Mantis now that he can't move the controller and him only knowing you like Symphony of the Night.

Hot damn, this is a deal.

Awesome game and at least for me, much more fun than the newer game. Still sad that they didn’t make Prey 2 instead of what we got. Easy recommend for $3.99.
Agreed, although I haven't played the new one (which is really a spiritual successor). I played through Prey 2006 last winter and really enjoyed it. It's very old-school and a tad long, graphics are very dated.

But the level design is still great and it's a very unique shooter. Plenty of fun to be had for $3.99, as long as you know what you're getting into.

Fantastic deal and I’m super tempted. But the CAG in me wonders if Tomb Raider will go significantly lower soon. I don’t think RDR2 will go lower than $35 any time soon but Tomb Raider is already $36 pre tax at BestBuy for those still with GCU. But otherwise, yes, for those who want these games right now it’s a great deal.

I think Tomb Raider sales have been pretty bad and will only get worse, so we'll probably see some fantastic deals this holiday. Sadly, that's bad news for a really good franchise. I know this was some kind of trilogy, but it will probably be the last one we see in awhile due to sales, not due to planning.

I can't think of a better way to announce that Final Fantasy XIII:

  • is free with November's GwG lineup!
  • is now BC!
  • is now available digitally!
Hype train! Woo Woo!

It'll probably keep getting cheaper, yeah. I figure if anyone was going to buy RDR2 at MSRP, though, $10 for SotTR is the best deal you'll find for quite awhile.

She's quite pretty too

Not a bad deal on RDR and SotTR but I still had GCU for RDR, so it would end up being $22 for TR. Based on the lackluster reviews and impressions, I’m waiting for Shadow to drop ~$10 or arrive on GamePass. :)

only a few more days of double search points on bing rewards I'm gonna miss getting 500 points a day. What was counting down for tonights sale?
Yeah I really only rarely did my searches(I did the 3 daily’s everyday though) until the past month and a half and now I feel like I’m gonna not be as inclined to do them again after these double searches are gone.

I’ll be surprised if they have another good thing like points crusader soon too even though it was a nightmare completing it.
