  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

I think E3 GWGs are usually pretty decent. Anyone have a list of previous June GWGs?
Looks like the 360 games have been pretty good, but X1 isn't anything special.

Last year, X1 got Assassin's Creed Chronicles; Russia and Smite. 360 had Sonic Racing Transformed and Lego Indy 2.

In 2017, 360 had Dragon Age Origins and ACIII, X1 had Speedrunners and Watch Dogs.

Let's not get crazy ;) in seriousness though it did get kind of crazy in Tiger Woods with the amount you could control the ball after the shot later in the series, thing was ridiculous.
golf club doesn't have that ridiculousness but it's still pretty accessible. you don't have to be a golf fan to appreciate it. i don't watch or play golf myself. everything i learned about the sport came from tiger woods on 360. to me, golf games are just about calculation and precision. golf club hits those marks.

Don't forget the flip side of the coin for the PS4 GwG - Anyone that bought THC when it went on sale for $15 AT THE SAME TIME that the 4K assets were made available (probably a lot, including me) probably wouldn't care that they get this bundle for free...

Celeste is better than both of those games. Sonic Mania is pretty good, but The Handsome Collection is a slightly enhanced Borderlands 2 (which has already been GwG) and The Pre-Sequel, a very bad game even to Borderlands die-hard fans.

Yes, they are pretty big name games, but I wouldn't say they blow Celeste, PvZ2, Super Bomberman R out of the water.

Borderlands 2 has been free on so many platforms, who hasn't already tried that yet? And it's cel-shaded from 2011, how much better do the "enhancements" really make it? (Essentially it was just another "remaster" cash grab on PS4 owners who didn't have their PS3/x360 anymore)

Sonic Mania is fantastic though, but Celeste is easily better IMO, especially when one takes into consideration that Celeste is digital only.

I HIGHLY prefer getting big name digital only Indies in GwG instead of big name physical games since Sonic Mania can be played in a couple days and traded back into Gamestop for more than one pays for it in the first place sometimes. Same with Borderlands Handsome collection.
I still think it's worth considering the 360 BL2 GWG from like 5 years ago didn't include the massive amount of DLC that is in Handsome Collection, and calling Pre-Sequel very bad seems like an overstatement to me. No, it's not as good as BL 1 or 2, but it's still pretty solid. Better than Battleborn and the nothing else Gearbox was doing for about 6 years, and at least has some fun stuff that make a playthrough worth it if you like the other games.

Celeste vs Sonic Mania is a matter of taste. Both are very good, Celeste is pretty innovative as far as indie platformers go, but that's not really what Mania was going for.

Technically Sonic Mania is digital exclusive as well, only Sonic Mania Plus has a physical release.

Yeah, but similar stuff has happened probably dozens of times over the years for PS+ and GWG. Big sale, new port, added to BC like the OG Star Wars games, whoops it's GWG now, thanks for the money suckers.

BLHC was absolutely a cash-grab port for PS4 owners who didn't have BC. And basically you're saying DLC for an ancient game is a great PS+ offering? People would be pissed if MS gave out all the BL2 x360 DLC for a month as a 360 offering.

BL the pre-sequel is viewed by many as trash and not worth playing through even once, especially near it's release, before all this BL3 hype clouded the air.

Sonic Mania is mostly rehashed levels from old Sonic games, aimed at Sonic fans (who would've already bought it, because it is aimed at nostalgia). It's great, but it really targets nostalgia.

And technically, don't be pedantic about the Sonic Mania release. Sonic Mania is *included* on Sonic Mania Plus disc. So I don't see how it is digital exclusive if the game is on a physical disc mass-produced for consumers.

And another technical point, Celeste has a higher metacritic score than both those games by ~5% (Sonic mania) and a good ~10% (BLHC). And it's newer.

People will defend anything huh? Look, I'm as big of an Xbox fan as anybody but I can admit when Sony does something good. Borderlands and Sonic are 2 of the biggest IPs in gaming and them dropping this on E3 month is a great move. Give them credit.

I gave them credit. I was just disagreeing with people acting like GWG has been trash.

I suppose one man’s trash is another one’s treasure as they say.

Yes let's change the subject. Let's get back to discussion of the gamepass ultimate deal that is not available now. That never did make it's way down to Omega ring members (or whatever the bottom ring is called) did it?

Guess we’ll wait til tomorrow to hear which Assassins Creed, Lego and 5 year old free to play mobile games we’ll get with GwG
They haven't announced the Games with Gold lineup yet? I was expecting that it had from all of the arguing in here since they usually announce it a week or so in advance, not two days beforehand.

In terms of quality, yes.
Also keep in mind the Handsome Collection just got that nice update and has only been as low as $20 digital.
Sonic Mania is a cheap game but I'd have easily taken that over something like Marooners.
I was trying to figure out why I had Marooners installed on my Xbox One the other day and figured it was some Game Pass fodder that I accidentally installed at some point and forgot about. Outcast 2 was one of the worst games I've ever played and was a bad choice for any month.

If you see me on Xbox more, it’s because I finally passed my CPA exams. I’ve been trying for 3 years and finally done! I’m working on hitting level 100 on Apex Legends (I’m at 97) and then time to start hitting the back log! I’ve bought so many games over the last 3 years that I’ve been waiting to play.

Congrats!!! Hopefully that CPA status will earn more money to add even more games to the backlog!

Congratulations on becoming a CPA! I’m working towards it myself. Mind if I ask how many attempts it took to pass the exams?

I’m not a CPA yet, still gotta take Ethics once I get my letter but done w the four main exams. I think I did AUD 3 times (passed it twice but the first one expired), BEC 2 times and FAR and REG prob 7 times each lol. I think I’ve spent $5,000+ with buying Gleim, Ninja CPA and tests. Now I can save that money to buy whatever this new Xbox is that gets announced in a week and a half. Ninja CPA was the material that finally got me through it. $67/month but his audio and blitz lectures were what finally stuck for me.

Congrats. Be careful with that ethics one, I failed it my first time and had to cheat my way through to get a passing score. Lol.

I don’t understand how people can say Sonic Mania and Borderlands Handsome Collection “easily” beat anything GWG has had. I know some people don’t like golf but the Handsome Collection is four years old and surely 90% of people who ever wanted to play it own it. Sonic Mania is also two years old.

Yet we get a game 9 months old and that’s considered trash?
I wouldn't take it seriously, you would hear the exact same comments if the XBOX June GWG were Sonic mania and Borderlands Handsome Collection.

That said, I hope it's neither Sonic mania since I just bought it and fuck Borderlands Handsome Collection because I own that as well.

So much irony. A multimillionaire super capitalist acting like he doesn't like capitalism to get rich off of capitalism - what a load of crap.
So, I take it that you disagree with my statement? If so, why?
For starters, RATM was actually pretty involved in activism efforts, and wasn't just putting out a message they didn't believe in. Secondly, expecting that someone who is taking a stance against the horrible things capitalism does to also not benefit from capitalism at all is absurd. Is everyone that hates capitalism supposed to just go out into the woods and starve to death? You can be a part of something and also want that something to be improved or changed. It doesn't necessarily make you a hypocrite.

I'd agree with you calling them "super capitalists" and it being "ironic" if it turned out they were secretly also big company CEOs making 3,000 times what their average worker makes while outsourcing jobs and running sweatshops. They were just a band with a message they believed in, and yeah, they were popular and made some money in the process. Going by your statement, any band with an anti-capitalist message better not ever be popular and make money off their work, lest they be hypocrites. But if that happens, no one hears the message and no difference is made.

Our current system is capitalism. Unless one has the power and the ability to overthrow that system overnight and establish a new utopia, you are forced to work within that system to effect change. And sometimes that means selling some books or music to get your message heard.

Congrats. Be careful with that ethics one, I failed it my first time and had to cheat my way through to get a passing score. Lol.

I had no clue what Outer Wilds even was besides that free “ready to install” icon that I hid from my list a while back, but after reading some discussion here I decided to download it. I just really hope it has a reticle (unlike the trailer on its store page).

On another note, the Halo stream was completely underwhelming today. “Hey, we’re still working on it. Here’s one level that we’ve made work on PC so we can show it off at E3, but don’t worry, the whole game is still coming.” It just bothers me because I’m sure the XB1 version is “easier” in the grand scheme (note: I’m not calling game dev easy), and they could release it any time if they weren’t hell bent on the PC release, but I just hope it comes out soon. My fiancé and I have been dying to replay it since it was first announced.

Eh, pretty up and down really. I must be factoring in Mixpots or something in my head.

Just got my most rare cheevo ever. Overwatch. 0.15% for Winning Junkensteim Endless on Hard with No Door Damage. Nearly impossible. Also got a .36 cheevo the same game for surviving 4 bonus rounds. Good stuff.
I used to enjoy grabbing tough achievements. This post reminds me of some tough Halo ones that my buddies and I worked hard for.

That stupid achievement on Halo Reach where you have to assassinate an elite from crazy high still gives me nightmares. I tried that at least 1000 times and never got it.

I've been playing Onimusha, Tropico 5, and finishing up the DLC for Borderlands GotY, but my Xbox backlog is going to have to wait a few days. Spent all night in PSVR playing Five Nights at Freddy's, doing the same tonight. Can't wait to subject friends and family to this game.

Outer Wilds is sitting at 89 on Opencritic currently, Void Bastards at 82. Game Pass is killing it.
Outer Wilds was actually a giveaway on Mixer though and not GamePass. Been playing it for a bit. Now on my third gameloop. Pretty cool game. More enjoyable than No Man’s Sky so far.

I think having a set universe and more interesting planets works better than a procedurally generated game. The 20-ish minute periods push you to try to solve its secrets in a tactical way.

No, Outer Wilds is also on Game Pass.

I dived into some Void Bastards for a couple hours last night, I don't think it's going to be my thing, one of those "rogue" whatever type games. The gameplay wasn't amazing moving around and shooting wise, nor was it horrible. It really liked it's aesthetic though, the stylized graphical look and sound effects stood out quite a bit, and I got a laugh out of the "premise" of the mindless bureaucracy were heading for a 1000 years from now with all these super capitalists ;)

I'll have to fire up Outer Wilds tonight.

I don't know if there have been any rouge-like FPS games yet. I'll probably keep poking at it until Cadence of Hyrule comes and fills my rouge-like quota. Early on at least it lands at a weird middle ground between classic Doom style design concepts and modern games. I feel like so many tight corridors aren't doing the combat any favors.

Yeah classic Doom is probably an apt comparison game play wise. I like how they visually put out some of the sound effects in the "comic book font" like Stomp! Stomp! Stomp! instead of just audio clues like monster growls around the corner in doom.

Really enjoying void bastards so far only two ships in but that is definitely a good description of it. A few other fps rogue like are immortal redneck (I also enjoyed this one) city of brass is also first person with like swords and stuff ( sitting in my back log) rico also could probably be considered rogue like I think.

https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/news/mcc-development-update-may-2019?fbclid=IwAR0OrZAnZPEq8oz8sDXyWybolPWaPw-pAKsg1R4O1N33-2wnl7MxJC61DXo

Lots of details for Halo Reach on MCC.

TL;DR:

  • According to internal testing and feedback, they see a preference for the post Title Update version of Reach, so this will be the standard for most of the Social playlists except maybe the weird ones like Grifball and Infection.
  • Custom games will have preset options for Vanilla Reach, Title Update Reach, and the Halo 1 inspired Anniversary settings.
  • There will be two Ranked modes, one MLG playlist with it's own custom settings (No Bloom, No Sprint), and Invasion. Since Invasion is a unique mode in the series that pits Spartans and Elites against each other with unique traits, it will NOT have the Title Update settings.
  • Firefight and online Campaign have been changed to a "new asynchronous network model" which is designed to eliminate the old weird lag problems. Hopefully this works well, and can be applied to ODST's Firefight if they bring it later.
Overall this sounds pretty good and they do thoroughly explain most of this, but I've got to question the conclusion on Title Update being the default. I just loaded up the 360 version. Right now, Vanilla Reach playlist have a total of 1597 players, Title update has 204, and only one TU playlist (Big Team) has more than THREE players in it. Unless it all comes down to gametype selection I just don't understand their logic.

EDIT:

Whoop, I missed one other big addition coming because this article is massive. They're adding a full on XP system for leveling and unlocking stuff to the entire game, as well as themed seasons and rewards. I don't think this was announced before this either, just that there would be some unlock system speficially for Reach armor. The sample rewards in the screenshots are sets of Reach armor and Emblems. I'd guess the Yapap event was a test for this, since it did have themed content and a few cosmetic rewards.

With as much work as they're still putting into this game it seems like it's going to be a permanent hub for all things (FPS) Halo. I wonder if they plan on integrating Halo 5 or Infinite into the package down the road.

In honor of the PS+ announcement, I decided to fire up Borderlands 2 from THC for the first time in years. Started a new game with a mechromancer to see how that would go. Man I love these games. I never finished BL2 because of a glitch that occurred after I put a good number of hours in on the 360 when it first came out. They ended up patching it eventually but I had lost interest and momentum by then.

Games with Gold Jan and Feb were pretty good. honestly getting Celeste is gonna be hard to top for the rest of the years GWG titles.

Wow at those Outer Wilds reviews. Funny how the game was a mixpot game and on gamepass. Makes you wonder what kind of money those devs will see.

Retro gfx aren't enough to make an FPS "just like Doom." Void Bastatds has lower enemy counts, much slower movement, reloading, clicking to loot, procedural levels, no key cards, crafting, permadeath + meta progression, random character traits, stealth, jumping, crouching, aiming, ability to lock doors to trap enemies, etc.

A more apt comparison would be a System Shock roguelike, which makes sense looking at the developers. It's not a run'n'gun power fantasy; it's a tactical sandbox for an underdog protagonist using their wits to overcome a dangerous and hostile environment.

Also, I like it. Once you have a good run and get some upgrades unlocked you can start new runs ready to go in guns blazing.

You guys all talking about playing new games and I'm over here on 62 hours of final fantasy 7.

Again.

For the 8th time.

In good news I just got the gold chockobo that I said I wouldn't do. So there is that. I'm on level 61 and starting to level up for the weapon fights which I also said I wouldn't do again. But hey achievements am I right.

I should be done pretty quick. By pretty quick I mean I only have about 5 minutes of story left.

But think of that 5 minutes left like it's the last five minutes of a football game and both teams have all 3 time outs still.

Soo the Breaking Dead DLC for Graveyard Keeper is finally out for the Xbox One Version, sadly no new achievements, and they charge 5 bucks for it after a 7 Month delay compared to the steam Version (which got the update for free)... they said the DLC was in it's final stages in January...hum...I still kinda want it...

I was comparing the actual movement, when I move the character around and shoot, I still say game play for that. Yes obviously this is nothing like Doom in any other way. I played System Shock back in the day and remember it controlling so awfully and nothing like this that I didn't stick with it for long. Isn't there a ton of fan patches to update System Shocks control schemes?
