Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

Thanks, no luck though. Oh well, I'll wait for it to sort itself out.

On a COMPLETELY unrelated note, can anyone recommend any of the resident evil movies? They all look pretty terrible, but as a huge fan of the games, are any of them at least kinda good? I'm only asking because they're all $10 each on the Xbox store.
Those are usually free to watch (with ads) on Crackle - they almost never get removed or are frequently added again. They have the CG movies too with the characters from the games.

I believe the movies are more for fans of Milla Jovovich shooting guns in midair than for fans of the games.

Someone needs to test out and then explain in a way my thick head can comprehend how to do this "buying x1 gwg through a 360 to get a permanent licence instead of a subscription rental." Kthxbye

Thank you both! I'll check out the first two. On crackle.

Edit: And thanks Zapp. I guess I'll know if I'm a fan of hers after I watch a RE movie.

The first one is pretty solid. I've generally disliked the series after that, 2 is bad, 3 is passable, 4 is gutter trash designed to sell 3D tickets. 5 is was the first one since the beginning I've actually enjoyed. The biggest issue I've had with the series was just how ridiculous over powered Alice became, and they finally got rid of that with 5. The second biggest issue I've had is any time they've tried to bring in game characters, they've generally done a terrible job, Chris and Claire being at the forefront of my mind. They also shoehorn them in poorly for the most part, for example. Chris isn't introduced in any capacity until movie 4, but they instantly have him and Wesker at each other's throats with no explanation for the movie only audience.

But yeah, 5 turned a lot of stuff around for me without going into spoilers. Going to see 6 tomorrow with a cautious optimism, but still mostly expecting a trainwreck. As for buying any of them digitally for $10, I'd only say grab the first. I never buy digital movies and for that much you could either buy them individually on bluray at the same cost, or all 5 currently release movies for $18 on Amazon.

Overall these movies have done well because of a hot girl killing zombies, not for being excellent works of art.

If you haven't seen them, check out the CG movies, they are canon to the games. I liked the first, Degeneration, the most. It was also the last time we saw Claire with her original voice actress so that was pretty cool. Damnation gets pretty off the rails. I'm hoping Vendetta is alright.

I hope you're right. I'm watching a walkthru of the first game since playing through it felt more like a chore. I got to this part where he's driving a vehicle and it looks like a disaster.

The gameplay doesn't seem to change but I hope with all the praise for Mass Effect 2, I can give it a fair chance and be part of the ME bandwagon.
Yea, Mass Effect 1 didn't hold up very well. The story is good, but the driving, combat and clunky movement made it difficult for me to play (plus I got motion sickness from that game).

Mass Effect 2 is better in every way.

After dealing with Sony I really appreciate Microsofts customer service. My 4 year old was able to purchase $60 of little big planet 3 add ons without my knowledge. No big deal I thought, I will just contact sony and explain. Oh hell no, you bought it, you keep it (even tho I caught the emails within 1 hour of him buying it and contacted sony right away). So I said fine and submitted a BBB complaint, to which they responded - SIEA is not able to offer a refund/credit for any purchases.

SIEA appreciates the opportunity to address this matter.

Please note that this response is not an admission or a waiver of any rights that SIEA may have at law or in equity, all of which are expressly reserved. "

basically I can do a charge back and get my account that I have owned since 2006 banned (including every purchase I've made) or I can eat the 60 bucks. Ugh. Frustrating beyond belief.

Complaining here because if I complain anywhere that Sony fanboys frequent the responses will just be about how shitty a parent I am, and how stuff like this can't actually happen.

I installed UFC 2 from Access...but I really don't know much about MMA besides it's a bunch of meatheads grunting, hugging, and sweating all over each other til one of them passes out from blood loss. Any UFC aficionados know who I should roll with if I start that game up?

LMAO @ that brilliant MMA description. I'm only a casual fan myself, but this made me chuckle. It's like a Meryl Streep comment with some comedy behind it.

If you're looking for it to tie in with the games with all the characters you're familiar with, don't do it. You'll spend your time wondering who the hell Alice is... If you want a completely unrelated story in the (sorta) same world, then do so only if you're a fan of over the top action with a bare bones story. I personally enjoy the movies, but I enjoyed Jupiter Ascending so that will tell you how poor my movie taste is.

I'm actually watching all of those movies preparing for the last films release this week. The most video game like movie is probably Retribution because it has Leon Kennedy, Ada Wong, Barry Burton, Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine and Albert Wesker all in the same movie. The plot is kinda dorky though.

I read some long post a while back about a guy who had is account stolen, which proceeded to buy several hundred dollars of games. Sony wouldn't do dick for him and still said if he did a chargeback his account would be banned. I think this makes them the worst by far at customer service. Nintendo isn't great either but they'll at least try to work with you on this digital stuff. Steam and Xbox both do decent, though most times I've tried to do anything with Xbox I've had to go through a few clueless reps to get anything done.

A handful of us just got scammed in the PSN trading thread. I paid with PayPal F&F and even though according to their terms I'm shit out of luck it looks like they are siding with me instead of the scammer. The automated response from PayPal was shit, but once I talked to a human it was all good

Not looking to spoil anything but I may have just played one of the single greatest FPS levels in video games.

Edit: BTW it was in Titanfall 2.

The question is WTF were you doing in the PSN thread in the first place? Xbox is all you need and maybe Nintendo.

As others have said the movies are more for fans of campy action movies. I did enjoy 1 and 2, with 2 being probably the closet to the games (2, and 3). 3 was not good but worth seeing if you enjoy the first 2, and 4 i don't remember to much about except it being utter trash. Not even a good action movie just bad all around. I haven't seen 5 or 6 yet, but reading others takes on 5 it may be worth a watch.

I've had nothing but good experiences with Microsoft support overall.

I contacted them once because I bought Fallout: NV during a sale ($5) but when I went to download the game a month or so later to my USB drive, it wouldn't let me. It shows up on my account as purchased but the game tab (and purchase history) does not let me get it. I had the email receipt ready as well in case I needed proof. So I contacted support, where the lady checked and saw that I did indeed buy the game but it wasn't showing up with my downloads. She told me to go ahead and purchase the game full price, and once I did, I was reimbursed the amount within a couple minutes.

Another time I contacted them about my Surface's touchscreen going wonky and not recognizing the pen input from time to time. Chatted with the guy, looked at my account to see if my warranty was still applicable. Told me to enter my credit card number on the support page to expedite the shipping of a new Surface and then I would just return my faulty one in the same box with the provided label. 4 days to receive the new product, and got my "guarantee" money back on the next day after they received my faulty one.

I called on the phone, spoke in chat, and had the better business bureau contact them on my behalf. They aren't doing dick lol. I made the mistake of posting about it on the playstation reddit, thinking surely it was absurd enough to get me a little support. I typed exactly what had happened, in a long post, explaining that I had just made him his own account, because I didn't want him spending my wallet, and PSN required me to attach a card, so that I could make the sub account. Anyways, playstation fanboys just sent me death threats and stuff, was not what I expected. Apparently, Sony can do know wrong.

Anytime I have had to deal with Microsoft I have ended with a positive experience, so it was a little crazy.

For future reference, you should be able to attach an empty prepaid card in situations like that.

I never keep a real debit/credit card on any of my online gaming accounts.

I was surprised at how well they managed to pull this off. I thought it was awesome but I expected the internet to tear it apart. Turns out it was one of the most universally loved gaming moments of 2016.

Psst, it gets better. One of the best campaigns I ever played. Very interesting considering it's a sequel to a multiplayer only game. Those folks at Respawn are good huh.

I committed the ultimate CAG sin and bought Resident Evil 7 at full price. Seeing everyone streaming it made me super jealous. Worth every penny so far though. Looking forward to trying this Madhouse difficulty everyone keeps talking about.

RE7 was the first game that was too scary for me. I hate the demented style of horror in movies, and apparently I hate it in games too haha.

All you guys who hated the awesomeness of RE 5 and 6 got your wish with this terrifying RE 7, and I hear stories of people being too scared to finish it lol. Hopefully we go back to machine guns, gratuitous explosions, and suplexing zombies in RE 8.

It really was. Best FPS campaign I've played in years and that level in particular helped push it over the edge. Talking about it is making me want to play it again.

Damn you Sporklez, see what you've started :D/ :D/

So is Resident Evil 7 like the first 3 Resident Evil games at all? Or did they go a completely separate Evil Within/Outlast type of direction? Because I like the old Resident Evil survival games but can't do those pure scary types and i haven't really seen streams or anything yet.

Pure scary from what I understand. I don't think there's even zombies.

Conan Exiles - Cinematic Trailer

Looks like it has a glimmer of potential. I just hope there are no quick-time events. All I can see when Conan was wrestling with the cat was "B" "B" "B" "B" "B" "B"

Serious question: is there anyone at all who enjoys the type of challenge that QTEs entail? I'm ok at them after all this time, but I definitely groan when I encounter a game that uses them for anything more than shoving open a door or whatnot.

For the most part I really don't like them. They can be done well though. Azura's Wrath was great IMO and that was 80% QTE.

There was one QTE in Dante's Inferno that almost ruined the game for me.

How long is the Titanfall 2 campaign? I'm not too interested in the multiplayer.
To add to what everyone has said, it also depends on your difficulty settings and whether you're going for all the achievements. I started the campaign on the hardest setting and there were definitely parts that I had to retry multiple times. I played an hour or two each night and it took me around a week to finish (I'd say ~11 hours). Definitely one of the most fun campaigns in recent memory.

Very true, a standard playthrough isn't very long, but completionist playthroughs will require way more time. I may do that in a subsequent playthrough once it hits bargain prices.

Let's all just admit that we have no idea what will go BC, when it will, or what reason MS has for the pace of titles being added because neither MS or publishers will really say anything. The shroud of secrecy is real.

With the first 30 minutes making me yell at my TV.

Did you guys know that if you have gold on 360 and you choose "Get for Xbox One" on an X1 game that's on GWG you can continue playing it on your X1 even after your gold expires?
Who are these savages who let their gold expire?!?

Also, even 3 titles a week is about 144 games in a year. That's nothing to complain about.
Well now that he's predicting that BC will kinda-sorta start to probably mostly end around 2018, if we get 300 more games by then he may be almost nearly right, lol. #movinggoalposts

obviously not anymore, console don't even support them, kind of a matter of principle at this point
The principle being that you're cheap and stubborn? LOL. I mean no offense, but come on...you can get a quality smaller sized HDTV for next to nothing now.

Trump needs to get on this. Maybe it can be a new form of torture.
Or he can force people to play early Xbox 360 games on SDTVs.

Thanks, no luck though. Oh well, I'll wait for it to sort itself out.

I binge-watched them all a few years ago and was surprised by how much I liked them. None of them are masterpieces by any means, but they're pretty solid action-horror movies, except for the fourth, which is garbage. The way the fifth one bounces back is surprising as usually franchises don't make a comeback like that after going to the sewer.

If you're the kind of person who can enjoy a movie that's "good" in the way the completely over the top Fast and the Furious movies are, you'll probably like the series. That said, I wouldn't pay $10 each unless you're hell bent on digital. I want to say that I got them all on blu-ray a few years back for like $30 total.

Not looking to spoil anything but I may have just played one of the single greatest FPS levels in video games.

So good.

And to add to what others are saying, the campaign wasn't long, but even with level select to get straggler achievements and pick up collectibles, I ended up at like 11 hours. I'll definitely return to it in the future and maybe even take on the highest difficulty level, although I don't think I'll ever get the time trial achievement. As a huge fan of the first game, I was extremely happy to see Respawn knock the campaign out of the park.

aka's quote game is solid.

Dead Rising 4 one hour trial dropping January 31st. There will be an update for the game as well as five free Street Fighter character skins.

Best fps single player campaign is Cod4 Modern Warfare.
Half Life 2
Semi-related, Portal 2, also see below on more of that.

Yes, any game can be finished in said many hours - it's always 5-6 hours if you speed through it (ME2, FFXV, etc) - but if you want to enjoy the whole thing to its fullest more often than not you'll get many hours of enjoyment, or rent it now pick it up on the cheap later. The best point in the Titanfall 2 campaign was when I realized how much of a mind blown fun experience I was having and the last time that happened was when I played through Portal 2. Also, that Trial by Fire campaign mission made me wish we had a modern MechWarrior game.

Dead Rising 4 (aka GOTY 2016) will get a free 60-minute trial next week on 1/31. All modes will be available to play, plus you can earn achievements and if you decide to buy it after the trial ends, all your progress carries over.

Half Life 2
This. One of the reasons I enjoyed TF2 is that it seemed to channel some elements from HL2 in the sense of having some military-style shoot-outs while still having fantastical sci-fi elements that change the way you play but never feel gimmicky. The first time I played HL2, I regularly found myself thinking, "That was so goddamned cool!" TF2 is the first game since (with maybe the exception of Portal 2, also, which is part of the HL2 universe) to have me consistently reacting that way to a SP campaign.

Other games are plenty fun, but not like this.
