Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

Just out of curiosity, how's everyone's backlog looking after this sale? I now have a total of 39 games I want to play, and that's including Xbox, PS4 and Switch games. I've now categorized my games by length. Went on howlongtobeat.com and looked up each game by its average time to at least beat the single player. It kinda gives me a better idea of what I'm up against, and it doesn't look pretty lol.
I have 300+ on Xbox alone X_X (including one & 360 games) I really have to start playing and stop buying -_-U

P.S. saw this awesome license plate today

Ha there should be some quality trolling on twitter, I don't think most xbox fans will be as forgiving as you. That said I've probably forgot about this project at least 4 or 5 times now....
Honestly I just don't think the game is going to stand out enough to do well. There are many games that people view as similar in this Hero Shooter genre now. Aside from the obvious king Overwatch, you've got Paladins, Paragon, and Quake Champions. I don't know if it's going to draw in a lot of people as a paid game, and most of the interviews I've seem with Cliffy B about it had him being a bit condescending to consoles if they came up. It's best chance is that it did switch to paid from F2P so it hopefully won't be full of garbage microtransactions.

Has the dlc for left 4 dead 2 ever gone on sale? Have all the DLC except cold stream and deciding whether to either buy L4D1 or just buy the dlc. Would like to play the first games campaigns again
Yeah, I only bought the last couple because they were $1 during I think a Christmas sale at some point. That was the last sale I remember though, and that was at least 2 or 3 years ago.

Another PSA.  I was looking through the list and realized I have some of these through EA Access.  Here's the full EA Access list according to wikipedia; BC sale items marked with an asterisk, Deals with Gold marked DwG:

Battlefield 3                       Mass Effect 2
Battlefield 4                       Mass Effect 3

I think the games and DLC are usually part of the Shocktober sale. That's how I got Cold Stream.

Browsing the BC games sale, I really hope the upcoming games pass includes a lot of these.  Not feeling the need to plunk down cash on them now, but would jump at the chance for a quick playthrough via subscription.

This man gave me Gears. I can forgive him for this grevious betrayal.
I dunno. I own all the consoles and I am still pretty irritated that Lawbreakers is not planned for XB1.

Cliff doesn't owe us shit, I get that. But, just Imagine if Neil Druckmann (Uncharted, The Last of Us) left the games business for a while, then came back and announced his game was XB1 only. Those SonyGAF PS4 guys would lose their minds.

In general though, Playstation fans seems to freak out about that sort of stuff more. When Street Fighter V was announced as a PS4 exclusive, Xbox fans were disappointed but I don't remember any sort of major outrage. However, when the last Tomb Raider game was announced as a timed exclusive Playstation people lost their shit.

I think I am seeing a trend.  Microsoft milks a franchise to the point where the original IP developer can no longer justify developing a game that will cost hundreds of millions of dollars and the only way the next installment of said IP can make any money is if it generates billions in revenue.  Said IP developer cannot take a gamble on developing the next installment and must sell/give/hand over the IP to Microsoft.  IP developer is so bitter about what happened that they refuse to deal with Microsoft again or they treat the gamers on Microsoft's platform as 2nd class citizens.  It happened with Bungie handing Halo over to 343 and Bungie's approach to Destiny on Xbox and now Epic/Bleszinski handing over Gears to The Collation and Bleszinki's attitude towards Xbox?

I know Bleszinski mentioned something about not being able to risk the next Gears be a failure that would bankrupt the company, during his presentation at PAX South, two years ago.

I like the Montana setting for FC5.  I kind of hope it is like a video game version of Banshee.

I haven't bought anything yet but my backlog sits at about mid to high 100s. That includes all platforms, but doesn't include 360 games that aren't BC, since I sold my 360. I add in EA Access stuff (if I'm interested in it) and GWG, etc. each month so even though I've finished more games than I bought this year, my backlog has grown due to BC, EA Access, GWG. If I just did games I've never played in my backlog, it'd be under 100, but I include games that I've played or even beaten but want to play again or do more stuff in.

I know it's grounds for banishment in this thread, but I'm really trying to hold back on my purchases this year. In the past I'd be buying tons of $2 and $3 games that in all honesty, I never have any real intention of playing. IMO, it doesn't make a ton of sense to be a cheap ass gamer if you're buying games you'll never actually get to play, no matter the price.

AC Rouge wasn't showing up on XBL, but I was able to purchase it online and it immediately showed up in my Ready to Install on the X1 even though I received a "Cannot add to download queue" message on the Xbox website.

Wondering if anyone else had that issue. I am needing my AC fix after Syndicate, which I thought was incredible.

For anyone wondering what types of wildlife they're going to encounter in Far Cry 5: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mammals_of_Montana

Looks like we'll be shooting lots of bison and bighorn sheep and fending off attacks from bobcats, wolves, mountain lions, black bears and grizzlies. Good times!

And, pertinent to my phobia of snakes, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks says:

"Of the ten snake species that live in Montana, only the prairie rattle-snake is venomous. Also known as the western rattlesnake, the prairie rattler is found in open, arid country and ponderosa pine savannahs. It often dens on south-facing slopes in areas with rock outcrops. Rattlesnake bites are extremely rare."

So I'll probably have to deal with the occasional rattlesnake encounter again, especially with the comparative lack of dangerous wildlife compared to previous FC games. Damn you, Ubisoft.

Yeah....I just bought A Kingdom for Keflings since I had fun with World of Keflings....which I got for free after letting the 360 go idle for a summer and found out someone hacked my account and purchased that and a lot of other small indie games that MS let me keep once we got my account straightened out.

I don't disagree about Microsoft milking franchises. However, Bungie, and the Halo IP, was owned by Microsoft. Bungie was able to buy themselves from Microsoft to become an independent studio. They did not own the Halo rights. Though they could have worked contractually, it's possible that they didn't want to make Halo anymore. Bungie then signed a ten year contract to make x games for Activision. Activision would have made those deals with Sony, not Bungie. It probably has more to do with Sony wanting to land "the Halo guys" more than a bitterness towards Microsoft. Keep in mind, Sony was in the weaker position, so they were trying to do anything to pull people away from Xbox.

I don't know as much about Gears of War. CliffyB doesn't work for Epic anymore though. He left in 2012. Epic is mostly a technology company. They make their money off of the Unreal Engine. It would make sense that they had no incentive to make a big risk game like Gears 4. Microsoft wanted to keep making them, so it makes sense to sell the IP. CliffyB had nothing to do with selling Gears of War to Microsoft. I don't know why his new game is an exclusive, but it probably has more to do with their support for indie developers and high install rate on the PS4.

I was considering FC3 and Left for Dead 2.  I would play both of them with my co worker. Not sure he will get a chance to pick up FC3 today before the sale ends though.  He already has Left for Dead 2.  I already beat FC3 long ago and am only really interested in play it in co-op with him.

I think I am going to wait till tomorrow or Wednesday and see if he bought it or not.  If so I can just buy them as part of the 4 for $20 used sale ($18.99 with PUR) going on at Game Stop.  I can get those two, COD BO2 and maybe Read Dead Redemption (might have that need to check tonight) or GTA4 and flip BO2 back to them later.

Since I have to spend real money anyway.

The sale ends 6/18 just a heads up for those who might not know about it.

Re: last gen and BC... when I got my X1, it was because I found a great deal and a lot of games I wanted to play from the past few years had dropped to low prices. But I'm still very much interested in catching up on last-gen stuff for dirt cheap, and $5 for games that have aged well, work on my new console, and (generally) still hold up is music to my ears. Especially exclusives which I missed because I only had a PS3 for most of last gen.

Did I miss a post? Don't leave me hanging.
Damn, you really didn't let this topic go. I Commend you on that! I Listened to it on Friday night (all the way through and with my headphones as per instructions) and I liked it. It didn't blow my mind, but it was a step above Zeitgeist and if anything reminded me of Pisces Isacrot, but nothing really stood out song wise on the first listen (really besides the title track itself). So I think I'll give it another listen one of these days.

Ding ding ding.

I don't know, it's gonna be a hard sell. One, I've always thought Far Cry games were awesome due to their lush vast exotic jungle and two, my god are they directly competing against RDR2. Ahahaha.

I need to be more patient. I didn't wait to read this and bought it before I left for work along with a few other cheapies just in case the sale ended early. Oh well. Maybe this is one of those that the CAGs can plan a game night to play together. I just get the feeling that some of these games might be stealthily delisted soon. Yesterday, I was shocked when I found out that the Snoopy airplane game on the 360 had been delisted. I had planned to buy it someday, but it's gone forever.
I also grabbed MNC because I couldn't play it when it came out but now I can. It's just ironic that nobody plays now... I'll def jump in on the it's a Game Night game contender.

Damn. Alien Covenant only did $36 million in its opening weekend. That's not so hot. Even Prometheus did $55 million in its first week.

Even though I thought it was just OK, I was hoping for more films. They've planned but if this doesn't do well, have to wonder if they will happen.

^ The fatigue has set in.

Also they're going up against Guardians of the Galaxy V2, which other than awesomeness, has not had too many movies and no fatigue has set in.

Bonus, one of them is a Marvel movie.

So I told myself I wasn't going to spend anymore money on games I would never play. Then I told myself these deals are too good to pass up we hardly ever see these prices. Went back and forth over the weekend. The CAGer in me won I got these on top of what I already bought.

Dark void
Monkey island 2 - somehow I missed it when it was gwg
Call of Juarez Gunslinger
Portal 2
Rage
NBA Jam - I keep seeing it recommend I don't like sports games but it's always recommended so this time I got it
Geometry Wars Evolved

Got 32 games total from the sale

This sale needs to end or I might just get more. Think I'm safe though only a few more hours to go.

L4D2 is not part of the sale. Neither is Black Ops 2 on 360.

But will we be able to be a member of the Montana Freemen?

L4D2 is not part of the sale. Neither is Black Ops 2 on 360.
Not sure what the hell I was looking at before. I made a list of 8 titles that I might want out of that sale. Oh well. Think I will pass all the way around. Thanks for the heads up though.

This is not the case, at least with Halo and Gears specifically. With Halo, Microsoft was always footing the bill has Bungie owned by them from 2000ish to 2007. Bungie didn't love the more rigid structure of being under MS but more importantly did NOT want to work on Halo forever. They decided to leave, bought themselves out with MS (obviously) unwilling to give them the Halo IP, and were still under contract for two more games. This is why what was announced as an expansion to Halo 3 called Recon, became the full $60 game ODST, and why Reach's lead developers were pretty much all different from the earlier games, as those guys moved on to Destiny during and after ODST's development. Most developers don't want to make one game forever, and I think that's a big reason why we keep seeing so many high profile departures from 343 Industries. I expect something similar to happen eventually with The Coalition.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Ajn7JhlZlM

Gears is a bit closer to your idea as Epic did more or less dropped out of the race because of cost, but I wouldn't say it was because of Microsoft "milking" the franchise. The games are only going to be so successful if they stay exclusive to one console, hence the highest selling game of 2017 being the utterly bland but multiplatform Ghost Recon: Wildlands rather then the excellent Breath of the Wild, Persona 5, or Horizon. Microsoft didn't own the Gears rights to new games, so an Epic made Gears 4 could have branched out and released multi-platform and made more money than they had before, but the offset would have likely been no funding from Microsoft anymore. It's pretty well known that AAA games with their ridiculous budgets are getting too expensive for the publishers to really take risks, so they just decided to duck out of the race before they had a game flop, or "flop" by the same kind of standards that Square Enix or Capcom have now.

https://www.polygon.com/2016/5/2/11565868/gears-of-war-4-100-million-budget-epic-games-sale

This clearly lead to the shift to F2P games that they currently are making like Paragon and the apparently not dead Fortnite. . But I think the somewhat decline of the Unreal Engine and the licensing money they get from it scared them in this direction too, even though it's still a big player in the industry.

The other blow was Cliff Bleszinski's burnout on the Gears franchise, the AAA development process, and odd treatment at the end the lead to him leaving Epic. I don't like Polygon but these all happened to be the articles I found.

I think the setting for FC5 is going to be much more modern vs RDR2. I see power lines, propane tanks, and roads for cars in that teaser. RDR is also a third person shooter vs the FC first person perspective. It will most likely come down to the location being interesting enough for long time players who are used to the jungles of previous games. I am interested in seeing a change to be honest.

I see what you are saying and I agree but it's fucking RED DEAD REDEMPTION 2, ROCKSTAR is gonna KILL FC5.

NBA Jam - I keep seeing it recommend I don't like sports games but it's always recommended so this time I got it
Reading this statement sounds almost like, "I keep seeing pizza restaurants and people recommend pizza. I don't like Italian, but since people recommend it, I guess it's time to try it out."

Maybe i'm getting very old, but shouldn't NBA Jam be close to Super Mario Bros., Pac-Man, and Tetris in video game familiarity for everyone at this point?

Interesting setting for FarCry, I've enjoyed all of the games in the series a lot though so I will definitely get it.
I haven't played Primal yet. Just doesn't interest me that much. Almost bought it a couple times but then didn't. Will have to see how FC5 reviews and what people here think of it. But if it is too similar to RDR2 it is going to get clobbered. I liked 3 and 4 in part because it was set in an exotic location.

Once you go to the ease and convenience of being able to pick what you want to play, selecting it and going straight into the game, then switch to another, and so forth without dealing with game discs and cases/possibly installing the game before you play, spending $5 on an owned game to open it digitally doesn't sound like such a big deal.

Did you call it AC Rouge to its face? If so, I can understand it being ornery.
