This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only person in the world that has an Xbone and doesn't get it up for Halo.
*raises hand*

Weird thing is I've owned every numbered Halo game, and I swear from Halo 1 to 4, the pattern is

1) buy game
2) play for 2 chapters
3) realize I suck ass at this series
4) trade in 2 weeks later

I keep trying to get into the franchise but the skill level it takes to be successful is way beyond me. I'm OK at FPS games but I feel like Halo is for hardcore killers, man. I envy gamers who can say MP is too easy or dumbed down....that just means you're really fucking good at that shit and you dont even realize it.

STF will be my first 1k on X1 if I can ever get "They Are Looking". Any tips? I tried first level and the jetpack Dino one. I've read jetpack one is easiest, but I hate that level.
I haven't got it but I was guessing collect all Lookers in the game? (Those rainbow-colored square pickups at the end of each level)

Even if I play them all back to back, I will probably still not understand half the plot of part 3. I'd love to play part 2 in HD though. I've never played the campaign for part 2.

Did I just answer my own question of why I get lost during Halo 3?
Wait a second.

Halo has a storyline?

I'm kidding of course, but I never understood the giant hype around Halo's sci-fi story. It's a good-looking setting, and I'm sure that if I've read the books it would be more interesting, but the games? "OK Chief, go there, kill the aliens, recover item". That pretty much sums up the campaign, for me. Halo 4's campaign was linear and full of explosions and scripted events (not unlike COD), but I barely remember anything of the story besides the chemistry between Chief and Cortana. I just think they're fun shooters - online, especially.

No offense to anyone who might feel like the description applies to them, but I generally think that most people thinking that the Halo storyline is absolutely epic and unbelieveable, probably never watched an actual good sci-fi movie, and likely never played games with truly epic storylines like The Longest Journey. Though the world of Halo is indeed gorgeous.

I love the story line in Halo, have played through all of them multiple times, including Halo Wars, ODST, and Reach. The books help but I think the story is really good on it's own without reading any of them (there's some I haven't read I know)

i have beat the campaigns on Halo, Halo 3, ODST, Reach, and Halo 4 and I couldn't tell you anything about the story. Seems like a generic space man hero story so I have never paid attention.

In other news, I bought Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare per my 3 year old sons request when he saw screenshots of it and he thinks it's the greatest thing ever. After we played it he was running around pretending to be a pirhanna plant and spit goo.

So if you have young kids, this is a good one to pick up. My wife doesn't mind him watching this one either, not like saints row.

Meh never cared at all for Halo's story

bought the game and just wen straight to multiplayer

i still play halo 4 since launch and never even attempted campaign

I've always failed to find anything interesting in them. ODST and Reach had their own thing going on at least, so it was a more of a start-to-finish storyline that made more sense - what didn't help me with the other Halo games is that I played the Halo 3 campaign in like 2009, and Halo 4's in like 2013 - could barely remember anything 6 months after I beat a game, let alone 4 years later. It always came down to me as a pretty generic war of the races on multiple planets, with big fights that are, however, ultimately decided by the Spartan equivalent of Rambo, Master Chief, whose AI managed to grow digital boobies in the meanwhile, thus further underlining her importance.

Almost all FPS campaigns can be described the way you generically described them, because what else can you do besides shoot the enemy and try to acquire some random objective to see if it'll help destroy them? While I agree with you that the hype for the story is kinda meh, it's still a pretty good sci-fi story (barring Halo 4; they had something interesting there and fucked it up IMO) if you pay attention and break out of the mindset of "finishing objectives/shooting everything", and this comes from a guy who just finished Ender's Game for the first time.

If anything, The Fall of Reach novel and the Forerunner series add a lot of context to the games that aren't found within them.

But yeah, the slippery slope started with Reach and ever since then I've lost the wonder for the campaign. I'll probably rent 5 somewhere down the line, but am not holding out on hope that the series will be "fixed".

I've never played a Halo game outside of demos even though I own them all (except for Halo 4 and Halo Wars).

Should I be ashamed and start on that part of my backlog immediately or is the series overrated?

I'm interested in Super Time Force, but I think I'm going to hold out until they release the Ultimate edition. I think it'll be worth the wait.

You should be ashamed!!!

On a serious note though, I would say you grab Halo Wars and Halo 4 (both shouldn't cost you much), and if you have the rest of the games, play them in order. While I thought Halo 4's campaign was the weakest, it had more to do with the structure than the story. Hopefully Halo 5 fizes that since that's probably when I'll pick up an Xbox One (hopefully a Halo bundle).

P.S. Incase you weren't sure, the chronological order for the games is: Halo Wars, Halo Reach, Halo CE, Halo 2, Halo 3:ODST, Halo 3 and Halo 4.

I don't have one because there are no games out and it's overpriced.

And it should go without saying here, but the piles of 360 games I've yet to play through.
For me, not only the piles of unplayed 360 games but for every system going back to the 16 bit generation including hand helds  Now I'll be starting my back log of X1 games :bouncy:

As far as Halo, I've only finished Halo CE and replaying through Halo Anniversary. I have all the other titles but I'm not into it as much as other but I do enjoy it.

Correction to my post above:
Release date for Diablo 3 Ultimate Evil Edition is August 19th, not the 7th. Apologies.

I have to disagree on that. Halo 4's campaign is the strongest on my opinion, because the entire feel in the game had emotional impact on me as player. How many games do you play without feeling a thing? like robot! You just beat the game and go to the next. Well it's not the case with Halo 4, at least not for me. If there is no emotional factor in game one tends to forget that game very fast.

Despite the nice graphics and change in style, story was there. And by story I mean the development of characters, their interactions and how they react to environment and situations. Great voice overs on part of actors,.. (how many times I've seen bad voice over simply killing the game) Take Cortana for instance, they did amazing job in developing the AI who had feelings. I fell for Cortana 1st time in Halo series, they made Cortana that perfect fragile girl that men wants to protect.

There tons of details to discuss, Out of all Halos this one I def. will remember and play many times, mostly campaign.

Plus I'm really thankful that 343 went out of their way and reinvented the sound and feel of weapons. Finally marine assault rifle sounds like it suppose to.

Ahem... http://m.wpcentral.com/diablo-iii-ultimate-evil-edition-announced

Guess Halo is the BIG thing right now. Nobody cares that Diablo 3 Ultimate is coming for Xbox One and Xbox 360 on August 7th???
I don't give a shit about Halo. only played Halo 1 and Reach and never got into it. I will only get into a FPS if it has an interesting story to get me involved.

That's great news that Reaper is coming to the consoles, but it sucks ass that those who bought the original game are basically screwed and have to buy the whole thing again.
Then again it's basically like what happened with Dragons Dogma. you can't get the extra stuff from separate DLC in that either right?

halo campaigns are fantastic. The Master Chief/Cortana dynamic is one of the best in gaming. Also, if you've been a fan of halo for a long time, then you most likely do multiple playthroughs because it's fun on solo and co op, and then of course there's solo legendary. Hunting for skulls, finding ways to get outside the map to secret areas and finding a giant soccer ball, scarab gun, or random funny grunts.

I feel like that kind of stuff is dying down though. Most people just follow guides now so there's not much discovering on your own anymore, and story in games is becoming less important when people are making jokes of everything like their favorite lets-players, or they're glad they got to a cutscene so they can answer those texts and not pay attention to what the game is about.

@RIP, the RT stream is live if you're not already watching

I don't give a shit about Halo. only played Halo 1 and Reach and never got into it. I will only get into a FPS if it has an interesting story to get me involved.

That's great news that Reaper is coming to the consoles, but it sucks ass that those who bought the original game are basically screwed and have to buy the whole thing again.
Then again it's basically like what happened with Dragons Dogma. you can't get the extra stuff from separate DLC in that either right?
Yes, but it's going to retail for $39.99 for the last gen and $59.99 for current gen. And, saves will transfer. And, there are going to be extras for the console versions. The expansion alone for the PC, is $39.99. The price is fair, and I was going to get it for the One anyhow. The inclusion of both games for the $59.99 price on the One is a good deal.

Most definitely the exploration on your own is becoming thing of the past. The age of information and technology is making folks to get instantaneous results. Yes ppl exercise will power and say "no" to help from external sources. But still internet is there, ohh the temptation. And if you sturggle with the game just go to youtube and find the walkthrough. Still I respect the "early bird" those folks who buy the game 1 day it's out and explore all secrets and achievements on their own. I bet they feel greatly rewarded in the end.

I didn't mean the story, I meant the structure of it. The whole campaign consisted of going to press this button, killing some enemies, press the next button, rinse and repeat for 8-9 hours.

I loved the story just didn't like the structure of the campaign.

I understand, the routine in the game is a bit cliche. Honestly I didn't notice that, maybe caz I liked it so much. I mean a lot of games out there are based on those mechanics, find the objective=trigger the sequence. They give us goals, something to strive to. Although I do like the games that are completely irrational.

If you haven't played Halo 2, then you haven't played Halo at its finest.

I think 99% of people that had XBL on original Xbox played that game. 100% of my friends had it. It helped shape Xbox Live into what it is today.

I'd love if they released it exactly how it was, with glitches in multiplayer. We spent hours discovering super jumps and trying to get outside the maps. Much exploration.

Diablo 3 is already put on pc w the expansion so that's why no one cares as much as Halo. I will buy the diablo 3 on Xbox one eventually though

All of this.

Halo 2 didn't just shape LIVE, it shaped Multiplayer as a whole. It defined and helped make what MP is today.

I hope they keep the glitches too. Super jumps and long distance sword stab for the win!

Ahem... http://m.wpcentral.com/diablo-iii-ultimate-evil-edition-announced

Guess Halo is the BIG thing right now. Nobody cares that Diablo 3 Ultimate is coming for Xbox One and Xbox 360 on August 7th???
You do know you're comparing a failed game at launch to a game (this edition fixes the loot system and eliminates the auction house crap) that blew people away and has held a coveted title in gaming (Diablo III and Halo 2 respectively).

Also Diablo III came out last year.

There are so many fallacies in your argument.

Diablo 3 may have failed at launch on the PC, but it did well on the 360.

The loot system fixes you speak of WERE IN the 360 version. These would carry over to the new versions coming out.

And the "Diablo 3 came out last year" argument is the most laughable of all. When did Halo 1, 2, 3, and 4 come out?

Just because I post news on a different game than the "god known as Halo", doesn't make it any less newsworthy. I personally think this is great news, and actually has confirmation, a price, and a release date. When is the rumored "Halo Collection" coming out again? How much is it? Is it confirmed? Thought so.

It could've done well sales wise and it would still be overshadowed by halo talk. Halo is to Xbox what Mario is to Nintendo. Of course more people are going to talk about it.

About them Diablo III sales:

http://www.vgchartz.com/gamedb/?name=Diablo+III

I wouldn't say 0.81 million is doing well.

Also, Halo is a gaming giant. While not everyone loves it, everyone knows it. And if it wasn't for Halo, MANY games would not exist.
That can be said about Diablo as well. But the reasons why Halo is big news and Diablo isn't...

1) Diablo 3 will be one of the many console ports of a game released last year. The people who really wanted to play it already did one way or another, this is just the next-gen and the new expansion's arrival.

2) As you said, Diablo 3 sold less than a million copies on X360. I'm pretty sure ever Halo on X360 sold more than that in the first week alone (except Halo Wars and Spartan Assault, probably).

3) Halo is a giant Xbox exclusive (yeah, Halo 1 and 2 came out a billion years later on PC, but who cared?), Diablo is not.

4) Halo is a shooter, the genre that sells best on X360. Diablo 3 is a top-view role-playing game, barely even a console-style game.

5) And yeah, it's not even much of a console game, despite the fact it plays awesome on it (from the demo I tried on X360 anyway). Blizzard games are mainly on PC (also given to their complexity), and the sales reflect that too.

All things said, Diablo 3 with its expansion pack for 40 bucks on X360? Count me in, I missed out on the regular game, may as well pick this one up. I'm having great fun with Dungeon Siege III these days, but I remember it well that Diablo III was blatantly better (gameplay-wise at least), so bring it!

Why are people debating on Halo versus Diablo news? Both are relevant regardless of which game or news you prefer.

I was looking forward to getting Halo 2 Anniversary on 360 this year but if/when the Master Chief collection comes out on XB1 I'll probably try to hold out depending on the price. Halo 2 was the high point for me on the series. None of the others captured my attention as much.

I kind of wish I would have held off on Diablo 3. I should have known better. I'm not sure if I should get the new version on 360 or upgrade to the XB1 version. Either way I'll have to wait for a sale again. That's a really fun game. I'm happy they're allow the saves to transfer to either version.

I really told myself to only buy Destiny and Dragon Age: Inquisition at launch this year, but that's going to be hard it seems...

What difficulty are you playing on? In ODST, Reach and 4 you can put it on the lowest setting and turn on certain skulls to help make it slightly easier. And if you still have trouble with it you could ask for help in cooperative. 3, ODST, Reach and 4 allow four players to go through the whole campaigns together, so if you struggle with the difficulty you can potentially have others get you through it. Or just turn on a second controller and use that as a respawn point.

Unfortunately, Reach is the only game with matchmaking for the Campaign, and even then you're assigned a random level (which is weird if you're assigned level 6 and are on level 3 and don't know what's going on). You have to vote on the difficulty, but that causes conflict too, since some people want to play on Legendary and others want to play on lower difficulties. Most players quit out before the mission even begins and quitters can't be replaced. Many times I've played the matchmaking games only to be the lone finisher with everyone else quitting because of the level or difficulty selected. You're better off trying to find friends or people on sites to play with for all of the games.

Since most people should have Halo 3 free from Gold you could try going through that with others to see if you can get into the games. A few of us from here were playing through Halo 4 on Legendary, but that hasn't happened in a few months.

Both are  great news for me. By the time i'm done with my 360 backlog and decide to upgrade i will probably have one or both of those games for free on my X1 backlog.

Glad to see this thread isn't completely fawning over Halo.  I'm sure the MP is fantastic and I can understand the praise for that even though it's personally not for me.  But the solo campaigns I just can't get through.  Like Groo, I got through about 4 chapters of Anniversary, 2 chapters of 3, and 5 or so chapters of Reach.  I've never actually finished an actual game because the gameplay and story just aren't that compelling.

Halo 2 came out in 2004, it's the 10 year Anniversary, Diablo III just came out (last year or 2012 if PC). Jesus.

You're the one that went ahem, look at me look at me. Hey nobody is talking to me while everyone is talking about Halo?!# butthurt.

Some of those glitches were fun. Playing against guys who effectively turned the BR into a fully automatic, not so.

One of my favorite things about Halo campaigns is how expansive the maps often are, and the variety in ways you can approach things it encourages.

If you don't like the story, don't feel bad. I never enjoyed it, and don't understand what people see in it. I've never known anyone in life who likes the story of the main games. The gameplay is what I enjoyed. It's something that you might have liked in Cooperative play though, as the games do have big environments, so you get to move around using numbers and position against the enemies.

It's like Gears of War 3, or really the whole Gears of War series. The story is really stupid, but the gameplay is fun with other people.

Agreed. Lots of people were talking about Halo and you came in with a new subject. But when no one started talking about what you wanted to talk about *ahem* you did get all sour.

I would not have put is it as kindly as spybreak said, however the gif is funny lol

You attempted to troll me. I responded with a rebuttal that pointed out where you were wrong. Now you're backpedaling with a "it's the 10 year anniversary".

But, it's cool. I'll likely get both games. There is enough room here, in the Xbox Live Deals thread, for the news for both games. No need to get all salty over it.

This surprises me since I figured ODST and Halo Wars were spin-offs. I didn't like the demo for Halo Wars at all which is why I don't own it.

Does everyone agree with this order? Here I was about to open my sealed copy of Halo CE Anniversary to play it.

Also, Halo is a gaming giant. While not everyone loves it, everyone knows it. And if it wasn't for Halo, MANY games would not exist.
Which games? I've only followed FPS games through Playstation so I'd like to know what this series influenced.
